Chapter Eleven
A portal opened behind the Tarkatans and a tall, muscle-bound titan came walking through. He seemed to be larger than life itself. His face was hidden behind a skull-shaped helmet. In one hand, he carried an oversized hammer that slung over his shoulder. In his other, a severed head.
The Tarkatans seemed to file out of the way, making a path for him.
"Emperor Shao Kahn of Outworld," one of the demons announced, bowing before him.
His powerful presence was intimidating. I felt a pang of fear.
"Thank you, General Baraka," Shao Kahn boomed. He then set his attention toward Jade and Goro.
"Prince Goro! Bring her before me," Kahn demanded.
Goro grabbed Jade by the hair. She let out a wail as he dragged her before Kahn. Using one of the broken pieces from the staff, she swung and shivved Goro in his midsection.
Goro roared in pain.
The Shokan released his hold on Jade and she used the opportunity to flee. Making a mad dash through the forest. I'd like to think she went to get help. But, I wouldn't see Jade again for years.
The Tarkatans started to give chase but Kahn stopped them.
"Let her go," he turned to face me, "I have what I came here for."
I swallowed.
"Princess Kitana," his voice said, deliciously.
Kahn raised the severed head he brought through the portal with him. I recognized the face and my heart sank to new depths.
It was my Father, Jerrod.
He tossed it onto the ground just a few feet before me.
I fell to my knees, letting out a blood-curdling scream. A scream loud enough to be heard throughout Edenia.
"Your father acquitted himself with honor," Shao Kahn said, looking down at me with pity. His tone was surprisingly remorseful.
I looked up at Kahn, my vision blurred from the stream of tears flowing from my eyes. I felt a burning hate I had never known before.
"And my mother?" I asked, through gritted teeth.
"She is alive," Kahn promised. He turned away to hide the shame of his true intent. "I have taken her as my wife."
I lost it!
I flew at Kahn with everything I had. But he was prepared for my impulsive attack. He spun and caught me by the throat in mid-air.
I struggled, clawing at Kahn's wrist. His strength was superhuman.
"Baraka!" Kahn bellowed, addressing his general, "Bring Kitana back to Outworld. We'll need her for the next phase."
My vision had begun to fade. The last thing I remember was two Tarkatans grabbing each of my arms and bringing me through the portal.
I wish I could say the worst was behind me. But there are fates worse than death.
