S3 E2 AU Kill Ari part 2
AU stories for NCIS episodes. Each is independent from all the others since this is based on the possibility of parallel universes and multiple timelines…. many, many of them. Later on some may seem to follow something that happened in an earlier AU episode story but it's probably coincidence unless I say otherwise in the beginning. Again, these are AU scenes/stories which means a character may die in one story and be alive in the next one. Or it might be a missing scene.
This is a short alternate universe story/scene for season 3, episode 2, Kill Ari Part 2
The original episode aired on September 27, 2005.
Some dialogue may be from the episode.

Continued from S3 E2 AU Kill Ari part 1 and Twilight
Gibbs and his team were working cold cases when someone on the floor yelled, "Turn that up!" Everyone immediately paid attention, going to the TV with the higher volume.
"We have reports coming in from Virginia where there's been an explosion at Naval Station Norfolk. Five ships had just returned from the gulf and family members were there to welcome them home." Phones on the floor started ringing.
Kate turned on their TV while Tim searched online for information. Tony got on the phone to call Paula Cassidy who was on one of the ships while Gibbs headed upstairs to MTAC. He and Director Morrow entered at the same time.
The television report continued with, "The FBI reports they have stopped two possible suicide bombers in Georgetown. It's unknown if this is related to the explosion at Norfolk and they say there will be a news conference in one hour."
Fifteen minutes later Gibbs, DiNozzo, Todd and McGee were headed to Norfolk at breakneck speed. Behind them was the ME van with Dr. Mallard and Jimmy Palmer. Four additional cars with agents were headed there too.
Director Morrow spent some time talking to the FBI director and learned that Ari had given them information about the suicide bombings but had said nothing about the port. Two members of the cell were still at large.
A week later Director Morrow was taking a new job with Homeland Security and Jenny Shepard was the new director. She tried to add Ziva to Gibbs' team but he convinced his former lover to let the FBI have her. Ari told the FBI where they could find the two missing cell members, thus solidifying his position with them and eliminating the two remaining people who knew he had participated. Al Qaeda was happy. They took credit for the pier attack and the bombers, and they had four new martyrs. They fervently believed that they had a mole in the American FBI and began planning a new and bigger attack. The FBI and Mossad fervently believed that they had a mole in Al Qaeda.
A month later the Secret Service asked Kate Todd to come back. She'd performed exemplary service for two years since her resignation and had gained invaluable experience. She talked to Gibbs and mulled it over and in the end she returned. It was a promotion, she could keep more regular hours and they were truly sincere in welcoming her back into the fold.
Gibbs needed a team member and Director Shepard snatched Ziva from the FBI and forced him to accept her on the team. He didn't trust her but there wasn't anything he could do. He still believed Ari was not a good guy but he had no proof and had to hope he was wrong. With any luck their paths would not cross again.
