I can't do this without you

A/N: I'm back for another tear-jerking fanfiction. My friend manifestingwinchesters and I had a deep dive conversation about Sam about how he possibly dealt with Dean's death resorting to witchcraft to try to bring him back for example. But we know now Dean had another mission once in Heaven. To be completely honest we made each other sad coming up with these ideas.

It's been a few months since Dean's hunter funeral and Sam had trouble adjusting to this new life. Not being allowed to bring his brother back frustrated the younger Winchester. He was still living in the Bunker, having moved into Dean's room, continued hunting to keep himself distracted. He sometimes went to visit Garth, went on runs with Miracle, his days were dull.

Waking up from an umpteenth nightmare, he went to the kitchen to make himself coffee, while drinking his cup he decided to try some of Rowena's spells. He was so grateful he had learned alongside her. Another friend he deeply missed. A few days ago, he had found a spell to bring back someone from the dead. "Screw it, I need to try it." Miracle perked his ears and followed Sam into the library where he had already taken the book he would need along with the ingredients. He bit his lip knowing resorting to witchcraft was never a good idea but he was desperate. After reciting the spell, the lights flickered for a few seconds frightening Miracle who growled but nothing happened. "Son of a bitch!" Sam exclaimed and threw the book a few meters. This had scared the dog who ran away barking but the younger hunter couldn't care less during these few seconds. Tears were streaming down his face; he only wanted his big brother back, was it too much to ask? After half an hour, Sam went to look for his fur friend. He found him curled up against the Impala. Smiling sadly, Sam sat down next to Miracle scratching his ears. "You miss him too, huh? You know what's funny? He never wanted a dog near his Baby but you melted our hearts instantly." They sat there until the late evening. Those were how most days looked like for Sam. A part of his soul was missing.

Another month passed, he felt a tiny bit better and ready for another experience. He wished he had tried this out sooner though. He sat on his bed taking a huge breath. "Hey Dean I have no idea if you're actually hearing this but man I really miss you. Continuing to live without you is so painful. It's been 6 months since well you know. I'm still hunting although not as often. Still living in the Bunker with Miracle and taking care of Baby. I gotta say I tried bringing you back using one of Rowena's spells I learnt over the years but it didn't do anything. If you could punch me right now, you certainly would especially calling me an idjit because I used witchcraft. I fucking miss my big brother. Please come back to me, I don't want to do this without you anymore." Sam broke into a crying mess.

Unbeknownst to Sam, Dean had heard every single word. Tears were glistering in his eyes. He wished nothing more than to zap himself to his baby brother and tackle him into a much-needed hug but he couldn't. Instead he went to see Jack to plead with him. "I'm sorry Dean as much as I would love to send you back to Sam, I actually have a much more important mission for you." Grumpily Dean looked Jack in the eyes. "What's more important than Sammy's happiness?" Jack understood Dean's anger because he grew up with the Winchesters and considered them his family. He knew how much Sam meant to Dean and vice versa. "Don't worry about your brother, I have a possible solution for his sadness. I need to send you on one of Chuck's other Earths, turns out he had a failsafe were he ever to be defeated. This creature is causing havoc. So before it reaches Sam's Earth I need you to fix it. Dean please do not meddle with things while you're out there." Dean sighed, climbed into Baby and drove away, hoping whatever Jack has planned for Sammy is something good. "I love you so much kiddo."

Sam woke up the way he fell asleep, curled into a ball to his brother's voice saying how much he loved him. Suddenly there was a bright light and the younger Winchester hoped Dean would step out of it but it was only Jack. "Hi Jack, what do you want? You can't even give me back the only person I need." Jack sighed knowing this was coming. "I've heard you begging every time, Dean heard you as well. Dean's soul resides in Heaven now and besides I've send him on a special mission. Let me tell you something fun about Dean. I knew how much he loved pies so now he has a magical pie fridge, which restocks itself each time it's almost empty. When it's time, you'll both reunite until then I have something special for you as well." Sam threw an angry glance at Jack. "Someone important to you will message you in a few minutes. I'll see you around Sam, be happy and patient. I'm always listening." And with that he disappeared. Not a word of a lie, 10 minutes later Sam's phone indicated a new incoming text. Seeing the name on the screen seemed unreal. How could he have forgotten about Eileen? They decided to meet in town an hour later to catch up. Sam decided to move in with her taking Miracle with him. He knew this wouldn't the last time he'd see the Bunker.

Two months later Eileen told Sam she was pregnant. Sam was happy again, not his happy self as he was when he road tripped with Dean though. Eileen had rescued him and had put the broken pieces together. Her pregnancy passed without any problems and she gave birth to a perfectly healthy baby boy, they decided to name after his uncle; Dean Jr. They lived happily after.

THE END
