Jacob
Outside, I paused on my patrol.
I continued up the porch and into the Cullen house.
I headed upstairs pass the landing.
Through the metal banisher, I see Edward kissing Bella's stomach in the Living Room.
I shook my head.
"Jacob."
Carlisle nodded for me to come down the stairs.
I looked at the happy couple one more time.
I followed him.
I sat down a bag of blood on the Kitchen counter.
"So, that's the last of it?"
"Bella could deliver as early as tomorrow. If she's going to have any chance at all, she'll need more blood."
"And you need to feed."
Esme faced Carlisle.
"You have to be at your strongest for her. We need to go tonight."
"Carlisle, you're the enemy now. Sam won't hesitate. You will be slaughtered."
"Emmett will come with us."
"That won't be enough."
"We have no choice, Jacob. If there's anything we can do to save her, we have to try." Carlisle tried to reason with me.
"You'd risk your lives for her?"
"Of course we would. Bella's apart of our family now."
"Yeah. I can see that. This really is a family."
I gazed outside at the forest.
"As strong as the one I was born into. I know what I have to do."
I gave Carlisle and Esme a dead fast look.
Night
I stopped and scanned my surroundings, listening carefully.
Seth and Leah caught up with me.
"Jake! They're coming."
"I know."
"We should phase, Jacob. We can't protect ourselves like this." Leah pointed out.
"They'll see it as a threat." I told them.
"I want to talk! Be easier if I could hear you too."
I peered into the trees where Paul and Jared came out of hiding.
Paul spit.
"This isn't your territory anymore."
"How's the new family working out?" Jared questioned.
"You done?"
Quil and Embry stepped out.
"You coming home, Jake?" Quil questioned.
I shook my head.
"Not until I finish this."
"What do you mean?" Paul questioned.
"I want Sam to take back Leah and Seth."
"What?" Leah questioned.
"No way!" Seth yelled.
"Quiet!" I ordered.
"I want them safe. And I want this over."
Carlisle
I sprinted through the woods with Esme and Emmett.
Brady
We noticed three of the Cullens.
We ran after them.
Jake
"I need Sam to wait until Bella's been separated from the problem."
"You mean till she's dead." Paul pointed out.
"Ease up, Paul." Embry told him.
"Then what?"
"Tell Sam that when the moment comes, I'll be the one to destroy it."
"Jake!" Seth exclaimed.
"I am the only one who can. They trust me."
Carlisle
With the wolves hot on their tail, Esme and Emmett desperately dart through the trees.
The wolves gained on Esme.
One knocked her off her feet, sending her tumbling down a hill.
The wolves tumbled as well but quickly regained their footing and went after her.
Esme raised to her feet and faced the ferocious beasts.
Emmett charged the Wolf from the side, knocking one into the other.
I grabbed Esme.
The three of us run off with the wolves still chasing us.
We leapt over a wide gorge.
We turned back and watched the Wolves skid to a stop at the Cliffs' edge.
Having eluded our pursuers, we ran off.
Paul
We heard Brady and Colin howl.
Jake
I hear their howls.
"You played us?" Paul questioned.
Paul ran off and Embry, Quil, and Jared followed him.
I shifted my thoughtful gaze.
