When it was a week before Luna was turning seventeen, the age that Luna was going to set for her journey, she was visited by her grandfather. After each of his granddaughters a punch of love, Luna sensed that something was bothering him. Luna looked at her sisters, who were both hiding behind her legs while glaring at Garp.
"Ann-chan, Sab-chan. How about you both go to the tree house? I want to talk to Jii-chan." Luna said.
The two girls stared in confusion at their big sister, "But Nee-chan! What if Jiji hits you again!" Ann protested, "We will need to protect you."
"Besides, what would you talk to him about?" Sabrina questioned.
Luna giggled, "I'm setting on my journey soon, so don't you think I'm strong enough to handle that?" She answered Ann, making the freckled girl pout.
"And who knows. Maybe Jii-chan is finally going to give me his blessings to become a pirate." Luna joked, winking at Sabrina.
Sabrina joined Ann in pouting, but they both left to go to the tree house. Glancing occasionally on their way towards Garp in fear.
Garp was watching his granddaughters with amusement... and uneasiness.
"Have you been spoiling them?"
"Dadan says I am," Luna shrugged, "But all I do is give them all the attention they want."
"Bahahaha." Garp laughing, "At this rate, they will be stuck to your sides. How are you planning to leave like that?"
Luna grinned up at her grandfather, dropping on the ground and leaned her back against a tree. Garp followed along and sat in front of her. "Nah, they each have their own dreams they want to fulfill. They won't stop me."
The uneasy look of Garp seemed to come again, making Luna straighten up. "What's wrong." It wasn't a question, but a command, and normally Garp would scold her for ordering him but he let it pass this once.
"The five Elders sent me to pick you up and make you a marine."
"The five Elders want me to join the marines?" Luna asked her grandfather. "Jii-chan, you know that I want to be a pirate!"
Garp nodded, "I know that you want to be a pirate, but listen to this, Luna. When they heard that the Gomu Gomu no mi was eaten by you, they insisted on you joining."
Luna frowned, "Isn't the rubber devil fruit supposed to be weak? Why would they want someone who has it to join?"
"I have no idea. So many things could be running through their heads that I won't understand." Garp sighed, body tensed from stress. He looked to be in a bad condition, dark bags under his eyes and skin pale. "But here is the thing Luna, they know about who your father is and they found out about Ann's too."
Luna's eyes widened in fright. "What?! And they still want me to join?"
"It could be because they don't want you to turn out like your father."
"Jii-chan," Luna said, "There is something else you're not telling me. If they want me to be a marine, and you're saying they know about me and Ann, then they want to ensure that I do join the Navy."
Garp looked at his only blood related granddaughter with sadness, "I always wanted you to become a marine, hoping that it will keep you safe. But I also wanted it to be your choice, not because of blackmail." Taking in a deep breath, Garp continued on. "Luna... The five Elders wish to make a deal with you. In exchange for the freedom of your sisters, they want you to join the marines."
"For the freedom... Does that mean that the marines are not allowed to arrest Ann or bring Sabrina back to her parents?" Luna asked.
"Yes..." Garp hesitated before going on, "But you will have to give up your freedom."
Luna stared into her grandfather's eyes, she could see the concern he has for her, but her sisters are more important than her freedom. "I will join the marines." Her decision was said with determination.
Garp's face expressed sorrow, before he seemed to think to himself. "Luna. Know the government; they won't keep their deal for long. Especially if Ann and Sabrina are going to become pirates."
"So, we just buy Ann and Sabrina time to become stronger." Luna concluded.
Garp nodded, "While you're a marine, you train to get stronger, and with the deal with the government, your family would be under protection of the government." He reached into his pants' pocket to take out a letter. "The letter should hold all information I just told you."
Luna took the paper and unfolded to start reading it.
To Monkey D. Luna,
We believe that it will be for your wellbeing and your family to join the Navy. In exchange for your service, your family will be under our protection, and we will turn a blind eye to their actions, along with their past and lineage. I'm sure this will be of interest, as they are wanted by many and the world would desire for thier demise. By accepting our offer, you are to not contact your sisters and to keep our deal classified.
Luna scowled. They said that the world would desire for the deaths' of her baby sisters, more like the government... Funny, they're offering her a deal to protect her sisters from themselves.
"Alright," Luna got up, "Let's go."
Garp got up and started following her, "Are you going to explain to your sisters?"
Luna shook her head, "They told me I can't and that after I accept, I'm not allowed to contact them."
Garp scowled as well. They wish to keep his family apart. To cause a rift.
"What will you tell them?"
Luna sent her grandfather a grin. "Just going to bid them goodbye."
"Luna..."
She didn't allow for him to stop her. "Now come on!"
The walk towards the tree house didn't take too long, and fortunately Makino seemed to be visiting. So both the young girls were talking with Makino.
Once the three noticed Luna and Garp approaching, Ann and Sabrina lunged to hug Luna. Luna huffed and picked up both the girls making sit on each of her arms with the girls giggling.
Makino wipes out a camera from nowhere, and started to take pictures. It became a hobby of hers to take photos, and it was a plus to have so many memories kept in albums. Luna felt grateful at that moment for all the pictures taken. Who knows how long it will take until she sees her sisters again. It will be nice to take an album with her.
After setting the girls down, she pulled them in a tight hug, the two didn't question it and hugged her back. Luna has always been the affectionate type, and Ann and Sabrina never denied any attention from her. But what was normally a few moments hug, lasted for too long, and they got worried.
"Nee-chan?" They chorused.
Luna pulled away and grinned at her sisters. "I need to tell you something but promise that you will hear me out until the end before you get mad at me."
Makino looked worried while the two younger sisters were curious. Garp sighed in resignation.
Luna closed her eyes and took a deep breath and let it out. Once she opened her eyes again, she looked at her baby sisters. Ann, her Rouge-neechan's daughter. The first baby she held, and the one she raised. She might be described to be a devil's child once her true linage is found out, but she is far from being a devil. Sabrina, the little runaway princess, the one who saw the faults in her system and didn't want to continue on with them. She wanted her freedom. Ann wanted her freedom too. Both wishing for it by promising her before to become pirates in the future. But Ann and Sabrina are too weak right now. They can't take on the world alone. They need to grow up, get stronger and find a family willing to back them up when the need arises. And Luna will provide them with the time.
With those as her objectives, it made the next words she said easier on her, but only causes shock, disbelief and anger for her sisters.
"I'm leaving Dawn Island today... To join the marines."
