The fireworks rolled through her chest like a second heartbeat, and as Kiki looked up at the sky, the colors washed over it, bringing light to dark and adding such beautiful vibrancy in the reds and the greens and the blues that she felt that little bit of awe rise up. Fireworks were certainly a special occasion, and Kiki's arm lay next to Mitsuhide's so close that his body heat was both calm and warm against her.

And somehow, even the proximity to the fireworks wasn't too much. Though they boomed overhead like a brilliant storm, Kiki felt relatively fine and safe enough. Besides she'd faced obstacles far scarier her whole life long than the bright explosions overhead.

"Here, wait a second." And Mitsuhide disappeared down the castle corridors and came back with something cupped in his hands, small and bright orange and squishy.

"You didn't have to," Kiki paused a little taken aback, "but thank you."

Mitsuhide had brought ear plugs for her, since they were so close to the fireworks tonight. He probably originally packed them and forgot about them as a means to keep his ears from ringing after each firework went off. But he offered his only pair to her anyway.

Kiki placed them in her ears and leaned a little closer to Mitsuhide, just to know he's with her right now, that he's beside her, that he is the one whose warmth warms up her side and the one who was sweet enough to worry about her now.

And each firework still rolls through her chest, hitting like a large heart inside her, and yet the noise is muffled, and with it, even the ringing in her ears calms down quite a bit. And so despite the shaking of the ground and her, she sits with Mitsuhide within that awe that spreads beyond the two of them and up to the sky.

And here, it is like a new beginning slowly formed, let loose into the sky, and sharing its bright light. And perhaps there aren't words that express just the amount of awe and gratitude that fill her up, even from before she's worried about it.
