Summary:

What instigated this dead heat?

What were they even fighting about?

What instigated this dead heat?

He realizes Rua is stubborn.

He realizes Rua has a one-track mind dedicated to the Riding Duel track.

It's difficult for Rua to admit he's wrong. And to change Rua's mind is no small endeavour.

But when Rally's able to change it…

When Rua isn't so full of himself…

It's like Rua's a different person.

Rua begs – he begs! – for forgiveness and repeats over and over he was wrong. Hands smashed together in poor, pitiful prayer.

His voice sputters like a faulty engine, convinced this may be it for them.

Rally has Rua wrapped around his finger, and that simultaneously fills Rally with pride and distaste, both toward Rua and toward himself.

How quickly Rua changed his tune. This wasn't the steady, confident man from a second ago.

This wasn't the man whose brash personality clashed in the wind so satisfactorily with his.

Rua came crawling to him, as though Rally were a woman whose wrath must be appeased through talking it out.

Rally hated Rua putting him in that position. Women wrapped men around their fingers.

Now, if he buckled, he'd appear weak. Bitchy, but still needing him. Conceding to Rua the femininity in his own response.

The clothes didn't do it. Clothes were clothes. The assumptions and self-criticisms always stemmed from outside or within. All the Carlys and the Mikages and the Stephanies of the world. And yes – from Rua too!

Rua wanted to be a hotshot, yet he had enough awareness not to be a complete ass.

Rally wanted to stop others' misconceptions, yet he had enough love for Rua not to be the same.
