The door of the cell opened.
Ann opened her and looked up to the guards that had come to take her to her death.
She watched as they came over and started to remove the chains off her but kept her hands handcuffed with sea stone.
"Stand up."
She did as she was told.
Her eyes were empty. She gazed down at her shoes. As she pondered how this has happened.
She had lost against that traitor. He tried convincing her to join him, but once he saw that it wasn't working, he traded her for a Warlord's position.
'More like became one of the government's dogs.' Ann had scoffed.
She wasn't entirely sure why the trade had worked; she doesn't have a bounty on her. No proof that she is actually Portgas D. Ann.
She didn't hear the whispers between the marines regarding how she is not under the protection of the world government anymore.
Ann was taken to Impel Down, the underground prison. She had found out that a war is going to happen when Jimbe was brought into her cell.
"I had refused to go against the Whitebeard pirates."
Was the reason of his imprisonment. Of course, Jimbe would not participate in the war, not when fishman island in under the protection of the whitebeard crew. At least that's what he had told her. What he did not tell her is that he also promised Luna to keep her younger sisters' safe.
When Hancock had visited, Ann was confused. Why would the Snake empress want to talk to her?
Using the ruckus that her appearance had caused, Hancock whispered "Sabrina has come for you" without being noticed by the guards.
She then turned around and left, leaving a shocked Ann.
Of course, Sabrina had come for her. But how did she get into Impel Down? And why did Boa Hancock know this and not inform the warden?
Whatever hope that rose in Ann was distinguished not long after. Sabrina wouldn't be able to get to her. No matter how smart her younger sister is, this is Impel Down, they can't escape.
And Ann was right.
She was 'escorted' out of the prison and taken to Marine ford, where she currently is, for her execution.
As she was walking to her death, Ann felt her eyes water so she kept her head down to not show any possible tears escaping.
'Nee-chan... Lu-nee... I'm about to die and I couldn't even see you not even once after I set sail...'
Ann wondered if her Luna-nee will come to rescue her like Sabrina had. Will Luna-nee at least attempt to stop her execution? Or will she sit by and watch her die?
Ann remembered the words of Garp when he came to visit her in Impel Down, "They will regret this decision."
It made Ann wonder, who are the they her grandfather was talking about? And what will they regret and why?
She walked up the stairs to where the war will start.
She saw the marines and the warlords in their places. Her eyes landed on Boa Hancock and Trafalgar Law (She remembered Koala mentioning him to her once before Sabrina interrupted her. Ann never got to know what was the deal about him) briefly then she continued searching.
Luna wasn't amongst the marines. Not even with the higher positioned officers. With her searching, her eyes ended up finding Smoker's.
Guilt welled in her heart. She didn't hold any anger towards her lover, he wasn't the one responsible for her capture after all, and she knew he couldn't visit her in Impel Down, not only was he not in a position where he has the power to visit her, but it would be suspicious.
She was resigned. Ann knew that his duty is important for him. He had told her multiple times at the beginning of their 'dates' in order to discourage her of pursuing him. Ann had accepted that about him, knowing that he was a great marine that wanted to help protect the innocent and put stop to criminals.
His gaze didn't waver from hers, but her own did for a moment towards Tashigi, his right hand, who was gazing at Ann with teary eyes. Tashigi had come to like Ann as a friend, and seeing her friend going to die at the hands of the Marines she works for is a hard thing.
Looking back at Smoker, she would see anger in his eyes. Anger she knew wasn't directed at her, but at the situation. Because no matter how much Smoker tried to deny it, Ann knew that he had come to love her like she did to him.
They really ended up having a forbidden romance.
Ann felt like crying and shouting, but she couldn't. She wanted to keep a strong front till the end.
She just hopped that the Whitebeard pirates don't end up actually coming to rescue her. Because it will be useless and only lead to more deaths.
Please...
Ann looked up from her kneeling position on the ground up towards the set of footsteps walking towards her.
It was the Fleet Admiral, Sengoku. But why is he here?
"Give me a DenDen mushi."
Is he going to give a speech before the war?
Once he got what he asked for, he talked in front, to stand besides Ann.
"I have something to tell you all."
There was silence over Marine ford, as there were DenDen mushis around the area recording live, showing the whole world to what is about to occur. Sengoku used the DenDen mushi in his hand to allow everyone in Marine ford, and the DenDen mushis recording, to hear what he is about to say.
"Portgas D. Ann... It's about the great significance of her death today."
Ann felt dread rise in her. Is this what she really thinks it is?
"Ann, tell then the name of your father."
It is. He wants to tell the world who her father is.
Ann wasn't ashamed of who her father is. But why not play the long game?
"My father is Whitebeard."
And she wasn't lying, he might not be her biological father, but he is a father figure to her.
"No!"
"Yes, he is! Whitebeard is my father!"
Sengoku, seeing that Ann won't speak the truth, started again.
"We looked for you with our eyes wide open at that time. Because we heard that there might be a child of 'that man' on some island. Based on a small amount of reliable information from Cipher Pol,-"
So those stupid agents of the government were the ones who gave the information.
"We checked all new-borns, and preborn children, and their mothers, but we couldn't find you."
More like killed. Garp had told them of that dark time, how they had killed many innocents in order to make sure that they got rid of the possible child of Roger.
"It's no wonder. Your mother risked her life to bear you. She used a trick that can be called mother's pride. That has misled us... Indeed, the whole world."
Ann met Smoker's eyes once more. She wonders what he will think of her once he found out. She knows that he had witnessed Roger's execution.
"There is an island called Batelira in the South Blue. Your mother's name is Portgas D. Rouge."
Ann twitched at her mother's name.
"She did something that completely defied natural law... For the love of her child. She kept her baby inside her womb for 20 months!"
She can see the shocked expressions on many of the soldiers, but none of them mattered except for Smoker's own shocked face. Tashigi was shocked as well. Why would a mother go that far? Who exactly is Ann's real father that her mother has to sacrifice her own life and hold Ann for so long?
"And as soon as she gave birth to you, she lost all her strength and passed away right there."
And for this Ann hated herself, she might not blame her father, since in the end, it is the fault of the world government that her mother had to go to this extent. But it doesn't change the fact that her mother died for her, and for that, she will blame herself.
"A year and three months after the father's death, the child was born with the blood of the world's most heinous man in her veins. And that was you!"
Ann glared at Sengoku. Roger was not a bad man, he was just the enemy of the government, so he was called a devil. How dare they make her father be seen for someone who he isn't?!
"You know it, surely? That your father is..."
Ann looked around and her eyes landed at Garp, her grandfather that was clinching his fists hard, and had his eyes closed.
"...The King of the Pirates, Gold Roger!"

Sabrina was on a mission with Koala on Sabaody Archipelago where she even got to meet with Law even if briefly (Something about being called by the marines to participate in a war? She hadn't gotten the chance to hear everything from him)! She was happy, she and Koala got to free slaves and destroy the auction house. She would have been happier if she got to punch a celestial dragon, but eh, she can't be that picky.
It was when she visited Rayleigh, she was met by a grave looking Kuma and things got confusing.
"Kuma-san? What are you doing here?" Sabrina asked the warlord.
"Sabrina. I have got bad news and little time to explain."
"What-" she didn't even get the chance to question him when he continued on.
"I'll be sending you to an ally, they will help you and explain to you the situation." And with that, his palm touched her, using his devil fruit abilities that led to her soaring in the sky and landing on Amazon Lily.
Amazon Lily that is inhabited by females only. Amazon Lily that is under the protection of Boa Hancock, the pirate empress, the captain of the Kuja pirates and the only female warlord.
And the same pirate empress was standing in front of her, studying Sabrina.
"So," The only female warlord started, "You're Sabrina."
It wasn't a question, but Sabrina nodded regardless.
Hancock hummed and allowed a small smirk to grace her face, "Well, alright. Come on, let's go."
She turned to some members of her crew, "Make sure that everything is set, we're leaving now."
Sabrina didn't know what is going on and maybe her confusion was evident because not soon after Hancock started to guide her to her ship where Sabrina could see a marine ship was docked near. "I know that you are confused, but I'll make it clear right now. Fire first Ann got captured and is set to be executed, I was asked a favour by Rayleigh to take you to Impel Down to help you."
When they got on the ship, Sabrina could see marines were turned into stone, by Hancock's devil fruit power, no doubt. "One of my girl's will guide you to the room I will be staying in. Stay hidden there while I turn those imbeciles back to normal and come to you."
Sabrina followed the member of the Kuja pirates into the designated room. The woman smiled at her in understanding. "It is all confusing, but please wait for Hime-sama to come and explain things properly. Until then, please hide in the closet." She gestures to the closet.
Sabrina hid and waited. Trying to process the situation. She might not have all the information yet, but she can figure out what's going on. Her sister Ann got caught, who knows how, by the marines. The marines that work for the world government that know that Ann is Gol D. Roger's daughter. Holy shit, her sister got caught by the world government that wanted her dead.
Ann is in danger! And Sabrina is being taken to her sister's location by a warlord.
She bit on her thumb's nail as she thought but kept an ear open for when Hancock arrives.
Why was Hancock helping her? She didn't completely buy the "Rayleigh asked me to" thing. After all, Hancock is known for hating all men, so why would she follow the request of a man?
Hearing Hancock entering the room, Sabrina held in a breath at the conversation between the Snake empress and who she presumes is a marine.
"Due to your status as a warlord, your request of visiting Impel Down has been approved."
Hancock had scoffed, "Well of course, I am the most beautiful, how can a bunch of old geezers deny me."
Sabrina bit her lower lip and covered her mouth to prevent herself from laughing. Hancock might be the only person who can speak like that to the marines and live.
Nothing else was said as Hancock dismissed the marine and then Sabrina waited for a few moments. After Hancock made sure that the marine has left and that there was no one to spy, she went and opened the closet.
Sabrina blinked a few times to adjust to the sudden light. Hancock raised an eyebrow at the shorter girl.
"Come on. I'll tell you everything I can."
And Hancock told her.
Marshal D. Teach, or recently known as Blackbeard was the reason of Ann's capture. He had exchanged her for a vacant Warlord position.
Hancock knew of Ann's heritage but didn't say how she found out. She just continued on speaking. She apparently owed Rayleigh a debt, so when he asked her to sneak Sabrina into Impel Down to free her sister, she agreed.
"The marine's will probably announce Fire fist Ann's bloodline at the execution and her capture itself is announcing a war. So, before Fire fist is taken from Impel Down, you need to reach her."
When they arrived to Impel Down, Hancock couldn't hide under her cloak any further when they wanted to check her for any weapons. She was able to sneak her away when she turned the officer into stone. But Sabrina was grateful for all of this. Hancock had helped her a lot with this and Sabrina had no idea how she will repay the warlord.
But when Sabrina started thanking her, Hancock just waved her thanks away. (Luna was like a small sister to her, so Sabrina and Ann, who are Luna's sisters are her sisters too. And Hancock would do a lot for her family.)
Sabrina started the operation "Rescue Ann".
She ran into a pirate, Buggy the Clown. And he was sceptical once he found out that she was going to rescue her sister. But when he heard the name Portgas D. Ann, he agreed to help her.
"What made you change your mind?"
"I was a cabin boy at Captain Roger's crew."
His answer shocked her.
"I knew about Lady Rouge too. So, I'm going to assume this Ann is their daughter and I will help you rescue my captain's daughter."
(Buggy got a call from Shanks a few years ago, maybe two years? He couldn't really remember. But it was something important. The red-haired idiot had informed him of a girl he grew to love as a younger sister. The same girl that had declared to become the king of pirates, he even passed on their captain's hat to her! Only for her to end up joining the navy. Buggy would have laughed at his old friend, but before he did, Shanks told him of her reason. Her sisters. One a runaway princess. The other his captain's daughter. Shanks asked him to keep an eye on those two and he had agreed. He ended up meeting Monkey D. Luna a few times, she reminded him so much of both his captain and Shanks, it was annoying really. But yeah, he can see why Shanks choose her.)
Sabrina gained an ally. They ended up raising havoc. They met Bon-Clay and struck a friendship with them. Sabrina got attacked by the warden of Impel Down. She managed to escape with Bon-Clay, who took her to Ivankov, a member of the Revolutionary Army. While Buggy went to free other prisoners.
(Buggy knew that Bon-Clay was friends with Monkey D. Luna. So, behind Sabrina's back, he knew to stay quiet about the girl's older sister, he informed Bon-Clay that Sabrina is Luna's sister. Once Bon-Clay heard this, they had decided they will help the blond girl.)
Finding another ally in Ivankov, they went to Ann, only to find out they were too late. Ann was already taken to Marine ford.
They ended up freeing many prisoners, the strong ones being some that can be trusted, for instance Jimbe, or being blackmailed by Ivankov, like Crocodile.
When escaping, Bon-Clay sacrificed themself, allowing them to leave and they kept the gates of the prison closed.
And then ship they were on got stuck in a wave that had been turned into ice. But when they broke the ice, it led to them falling.
Falling into the battlefield.
Sabrina thanked whatever luck was on her side, because really, how lucky was she that in the place that they were falling to, that there was a whole in the frozen sea, that let them fall into the water rather than splatter when meeting the ice.
(It's the D. luck, because even though she isn't an actual member of the D., she was raised by the one who had the most luck.)
Sabrina ignored the part of her that thought 'If Lu-nee was in my place, she wouldn't had even worried because of her rubber abilities.' Because really, it wasn't the time to start thinking of her older sister and getting sad.
Standing up, ignoring the stares of the shocked marines and the amused Whitebeard pirates, Sabrina took in a deep breath and looked at her older sister.
"ANN!!"

"It's time."
Leaning on the railing, Luna was staring at sea one day, they had finished her mission early but she wished to spend some time to relax with her crew for a few hours. And that's when she heard the whispers of the Sea.
"They're waiting for you. The whole world is."
Luna felt her usual wide grin grow on her face. "Finally," She whispered back.
Turning around, she faced her crew, all waiting for her orders.
"Head to Marine Ford!"
"Aye Captain!"
With that, all but Zoro, rushed to their positions.
Her vice walked to her, and leaned on the railing beside her.
"Zoro," She said, and he just sent her a grin. He understood without her even saying anything else.
"Yeah, I understand. We're finally leaving the marines."
"Shishishi!" She giggled, "I'm so excited! I can finally see Ann and Sabrina!"
"Everyone wants to meet your sisters, Captain."
"I know. And you guys will. But there is something else..."
Zoro tensed as she continued speaking, telling him of something else the sea whispered to her. He didn't like what she said, but he understood.
"Alright, Captain. We'll handle everything for you."
