Chapter Thirty-Nine

Confirming Fears

Meanwhile, the Shredder was making his way to the residential area of the Headquarters with some of his Elite Ninja.

After the turtles, Monalisa and Pandora had been dragged off to the dungeons or Dr Arden's labs he had decided to go and check on Kemeko.

When he arrived at the door, a couple of ninjas who were standing guard turned to their Master and bowed to him in respect.

"How is my granddaughter?" Shredder asked.

"She has been quiet for several hours sir." The first ninja informed, "A couple of servants went in with some food and drink for the girl, but she hasn't moved or spoken."

"I see." Shredder said with a thoughtful look on his face.

He approached the door and knocked on it.

He waited for a few seconds, but there was no answer.

Shredder knocked again, but he still heard nothing.

Frowning, he placed his hand on the doorknob and opened it slowly.

As he looked through the door, it was dark apart from a small lamp near the bed.

He then saw Kemeko's figure outlined in the light laying on the bed.

He wasn't sure if she was asleep or not, but he stepped inside the room.

"Stay outside." He told his ninja, and they bowed understanding and closed the door behind him.

Shredder took a deep breath and walked over to the bed.

"Kemeko?" he asked "Kemeko? Are you awake?"

Kemeko didn't move, but he walked over anyway and looked at her still form. He then saw she was asleep, but there was evidence she had cried herself to sleep due to the dirty tear marks around her eyes.

A few memories started to come to him when he saw her, and it was almost like he was looking at Karai when she was a little girl, when he first found her alone in Japan, to the days he cared for her until she had become the strong and fearless Ninja Princess, he had trained her to be.

Shredder sighed as those memories filled his head, but he glared as he remembered how she had betrayed him.

"Kemeko?" he asked again, then he saw Kemeko move slightly, and she rolled onto her back and opened her eyes to see Shredder standing above her!

She gasped in fear and sat up.

"Shredder!" she cried.

"Calm down child." Shredder said in a soft voice "I will not harm you, after all, I would not harm my granddaughter."

Kemeko stared up at him.

"Why are you here?" she asked.

"To check on your welfare of course." Shredder said, he looked around the room and saw on the chest of drawers a tray of food where he saw an empty bowl as well as a plate of crumbs showing that the servants had brought Kemeko some food and she had eaten it.

"I see you have eaten your supper." He spoke.

Kemeko nodded.

"It was nice, thank you." She said quietly.

Shredder gave a small smile and Kemeko looked up at him.

That smile scared her, as it wasn't a caring smile, but rather an evil one, she wasn't sure if the evil man, or creature was even capable of feeling such emotions.

"Why are you here?" she asked again.

Shredder sat down on the bed.

"I have come to inform you, that the copy sent down to the sewers was successful." He said "The turtles that stole you from me have been located and now they are here."

Kemeko's eyes widened in horror.

"What!?" she cried "You have them!"

Shredder nodded.

"Yes, they are here!"

Kemeko was so devastated, she felt her soul get crushed in helplessness.

She thought of her father, uncles, Aunt, grandfather, and cousin being subjected to torture or in Monalisa or Pandora's case, being experimented on by Dr Arden.

"Where are they!?" she cried grabbing the front of Shredder's clothes "Please! Let me see them!"

Shredder grabbed her wrists.

"You wish to see them?" he asked with a frown.

"Please!" Kemeko begged as tears fell from her eyes "Please let me see them!" she pulled on the front of his clothes and sobbed hard.

"Please! Please! I'll do anything! Please let me see them!"

Shredder glared down at Kemeko, and a thought ran though his head.

He was prepared to deny her request, and even seeing the tears on her desperate face didn't deter him, but when he heard what Kemeko would do in exchange in seeing the turtles, a wicked idea came into his head.

"You wish to see the turtles? Especially the one who stole you from me?" he asked.

"My father!" Kemeko said "Leonardo is my father! He never stole me! He loved me! I love him! Please! I want to see him! And my uncles, grandfather, aunt, and cousin!"

She tugged again on his clothes and banged her fists against his chest.

"Please!" she pleaded "Please let me see them! I'll do anything you say!"

Shredder smirked within as he watched Kemeko beg and plead with him.

"Anything I say hmmm?" he thought to himself "If I grant Kemeko her request, then maybe I can manipulate her into joining me, but I will need to be careful."

He clasped Kemeko's hands to stop her from hitting him and he looked at her.

"Very well child." He said, "I will take you to the dungeons to see your father,"

Kemeko blinked in surprise as she heard that.

"You will?" she asked, making sure he heard correctly.

"I will." Shredder said letting go of one of Kemeko's wrists and stroking her cheek catching her tears.

"I understand it means a lot to you to see the ones who raised you, and I will give you that chance."

Kemeko flinched at his touch, but she didn't try to fight him or get away from him.

"I just want to see them, tell them I'm sorry and that I love them, and will always love them!"

Shredder nodded.

"Very well." He spoke.

"Just let me see them, and I will willingly go with you!" Kemeko said looking into Shredder's eyes "I will go with you, and I will be your heir and granddaughter, I will accept my heritage! I promise!" she said.

"Is that so?" Shredder asked cocking his head on one side "You will stand next to me as my heir?"

Kemeko nodded quickly.

"I will! I will!" she said "I will stand next to you; I will be your protégée! I will be what my mother never was!"

Kemeko stood up and dropped to the ground in a low bow.

"I promise…. grandfather." she said.

As he looked at the teenaged girl on the floor bowing before him, Shredder smirked.

"This really is too good to be true." He thought "She is willing to join me if it means seeing those turtles once more!"

But he did have that worry that Kemeko was saying those things just to get him to trust her, only for her to betray him.

It was possible, he was no fool and not gullible, but he decided to go along with Kemeko's requests just to gain trust as well as keep an eye on her.

"Rise up my child." Shredder said, "If you wish to see the turtles so badly, then I will take you to them."

Kemeko sobbed as a relieved smile graced her face.

"Oh, thank you!" she wept "Thank you!" She bowed to Shredder again and stood up.

Shredder nodded to her then held out his hand.

"If you come with me, we will go down to the dungeons now."

Kemeko placed her hand in Shredder's and they walked out of the bedroom together.

Once they got outside, the ninjas stared at Kemeko and Shredder holding hands.

They were surprised, as they knew Kemeko was reluctant to listen, let along even think of walking with Shredder, let alone holding his hand.

Shredder looked back at them and motioned them to follow him.

As they walked, Kemeko bit her lip and stared at the floor, trying to keep up appearances.

She was so heartbroken and devastated that the clone of her had been successful finding her family, and it killed her within that it was because of her this had happened.

She was so upset and felt she had failed her family and dishonoured them, and now they were prisoners of the Foot.

She looked up at Shredder then ahead of her as they made their way to the dungeons.

"I have no intention of joining you Oruko Saki, you murdered my parents, you've captured my family and I know what you plan to do, and I won't let you! And I know the kind of Monster you are! I will never join you!"

Kemeko chewed her lip and kept walking, her hand still in Shredder's even though she wanted to pull it free.

"I will find a way to free my family, and escape, even if it costs me my life, I will save my family and restore my honour!"

She screwed her eyes shut as she thought of her family imprisoned.

"I'll get you out!" she thought "I will get us all out! I promise! I swear! I am Hamato! Not Oruko! I will never be an Oruko!"

So Kemeko has begged to see her imprisoned family, and she's said she'll join Shredder if he grants her her request and Shredder has decided to do so. But we all know Shredder is no fool, so Kemeko better plan carefully if she's to keep Shredder's faith and plan to save her family.

Stayy tuned to see how she gets on, will she succeed? or will she fail? Well only I can decide that!
