2 Weeks Later…

Trina had indeed ended up moving into Wyndemere with Ava. Thinking that it'd make Trina feel close to her missing boyfriend, Ava had moved her into what had once been Spencer's room. Indeed, Trina had walked around the room, touching everything in sight, thinking that Spencer had once touched them. She even smelled the pillows and sheets and blankets, trying to catch just a hint of his cologne. But all she smelled was detergent. Like everywhere else in Port Charles, there was no sign that Spencer had ever been there. Trina couldn't help but be bitterly disappointed, but she carried on, going to work, hanging out with Joss, she even got a DNA test, proving that Curtis was indeed her father. Something that had devastated her. She had wanted Spencer's presence in her life more than ever that day.

It wasn't long after Trina moved to Wyndemere that people started falling seriously ill. No one had an explanation for it. It was a new pandemic. It had everyone around the world wearing masks and wondering where this new virus had come from.

The answer for that came in the form of an evening program disruption. It was supposed to be the premiere of the new Bachelorette season. Trina and Ava had decided to watch it together. They had settled in with popcorn and wine when Victor Cassadine's smiling face was suddenly on the screen.

"What the hell?" Ava frowned.

"Oh my god...it's Victor...where do you think he's at? Where's Spencer and Ace?" Trina scooted forward in her seat.

"Shhh," Ava placed a manicured finger against her lips and watched.

"Citizens of the world," Victor began, a friendly smile that did not reach his eyes curved his lips as he kept his hands folded on his desk. "As you well know, our planet is in danger. The population of mankind is out of control! Something must be done! As head of the Cassadine family, I have taken it upon myself to solve the problem. My brother Mikkos and I have developed a pathogen that I released into the air not too long ago. Some of you are already feeling the effects of it. Only a handful of people will have immunity to it. Most of you will die. The population problem had called for a hard choice...a choice that must be made and I have made it."

"Oh my god…," Trina gasped terrified.

"Why am I not surprised," Ava frowned.

"There is a vaccine...but there is not enough for everyone on this planet. Only a select, exceptional few will receive the vaccine. I am sorry that it has come to this, but for the survival of our planet, there was no choice. I pray that all of your deaths will be quick. God bless and Godspeed."

The TV switched back to regular programming, leaving both Ava and Trina stunned.

"This explains so much," Ava got to her feet, beginning to pace. "Well...I guess that's it. We stay here. We don't go out. If we don't go out, we won't get sick."

"I hope he gave Spencer and Ace the vaccine. I hope they're safe, wherever they are," Trina shivered, suddenly feeling cold.

"Oh, I'm sure they are just fine, sweetie. Spencer's the Cassadine heir. Victor will make sure that he's vaccinated against this thing."

"I wish that I could see him...just one more time, so I can tell him...well, I guess it won't matter. Not if I get sick and die. Maybe it's best that I won't get to see him. That way, he won't have to watch."

"Hey, don't talk like that! Don't even think it! You're going to be ok. Wyndemere is like another world in itself! We'll just stick to the island and we'll be fine."

Suddenly, Trina's phone rang. Sighing, she answered it. "Hi, Mom. What? Now? Um...ok. I'll be there in a few."

"What was that about?" Ava frowned, not liking this at all.

"That was my mom. She said that I'm needed at the hospital."

"What? Why? What for? With all those people falling sick, it's not safe for you to go!"

"I don't know, but she says it's important and that she can't take no for an answer," Trina got up and grabbed her jacket and her face mask that she had taken to wearing since the start of the pandemic.

"I should go with you…"

"No. You stay here, Ava. There's no point in both of us risking exposure."

"Trina…"

"Ava, please. I'll be back soon, I promise," Trina hugged her mentor and ran out the door, wondering why her mother was so insistent on seeing her.

…..

Portia Robinson stood a small distance away from the small group of people gathered in the hallway, right in front of her office. She couldn't help but witness the melee as Dr. Obrect was escorted off the elevator with news of a vaccine and a short list of who was to receive it. Her ears had perked up when she had heard her own daughter's name and relief filled her, thanking god that at least Trina would be saved from the sickness that was sweeping the world for the past few weeks. Poor Hamilton Finn had been hard at work trying to develop both a vaccine and a cure with no success, but the now-returned Dr. Obrect came with a light of hope. Not only for her loved ones but for her daughter as well.

"Mom?" Trina headed in her direction, coming out of the elevator, her eyes concerned. "What is it? Why did you call me here? Is that Dr. Obrect? She had been kidnapped with Spencer! Is he here too?! I have to talk to her!"

"Trina, wait! Spencer wasn't with her! It was only her. Victor only released her," Portia hated to break the news to her daughter. She had seen how her daughter's eyes had lit up at the sight of the doctor and now, the light had been snuffed out once again.

"Oh. Well...why am I here? Why did you ask me to come?"

"Trina!" Laura rushed over and pulled the girl into a comforting hug. "Oh sweetie, it is so good to see you here. How are you holding up?"

"I'm...taking it one day at a time, I suppose. I...I keep hoping that he'll come back. In fact, when I saw Dr. Obrect here…"

"Yes. I thought that too. Sadly, she was the only one who returned. But she has some news, I think. At least that's what they said over the phone. That she needed to see both you and me as well as Maxie, Nina, and her kids and Willow...even though poor Willow hadn't made it…"

Trina nodded, remembering how sad Joss had been when Willow had succumbed to the cancer that had riddled her body. It seemed that Dr. Obrect's return was too late.

"Oh good, the girl is here," Dr. Obrect approached them with what looked to be some kind of canister in her hand. "I suppose I can tell you why I had you called here now. I have a vaccine for the pathogen Victor had released. I don't have much. I can only give it to the people on the list, which includes my family, including Willow...and two people that young Spencer had advocated for. His grandmother Laura...and his beloved Trina. He wanted you two safe from the pathogen. He had given up his own freedom in order to get it to you."

Trina gasped, horrified with tears in her eyes. "Oh, Spencer…"

"I suggest that you and Laura get vaccinated right away. There's not a moment to lose," Obrect instructed.

Portia felt tears in her eyes, thankful for this small miracle. Now she didn't have to worry about her daughter getting sick. "There's a free examination room right this way."

Trina simply nodded and followed her mother as Portia lead both her and Laura to get the shot. She didn't know what to say. Her heart was touched though. Spencer had obviously kept her in mind and had given in to whatever Victor wanted from him to keep her safe. She so desperately wanted to talk to him, to tell him that she would do the same for him if given the chance.

…..

Two Days later…

Somewhere in Greenland...

.

Spencer sat in his room which felt like a prison cell. He hardly ever left it, unless it was when his Uncle allowed him to go see his brother or have him follow him around as he tended to his...followers? Was that what all these people that seemed so devoted to his Uncle and his way of thinking could be considered? Spencer shuddered and felt disgusted, something he always felt when thinking about the group of people that his Uncle seemed to rule over. They seemed like some kind of cult and thanks to Dr. Obrect's efforts, they were all now immune to the pathogen that had been released into the world. Hopefully, the immune now included Trina and his grandmother.

He sighed and looked at the burner phone in his hand. He had made a friend with one of the guards, a young man about his age, who was married. All Spencer had to do was be nice to the young man and pull on his heartstrings. Get the guard on his side by telling him his sad tale of love and loss and what would the young man do if he had been taken away from the woman he loved? The guard had come back the next day with the burner phone and had even brought minutes for him. Of course, Spencer was warned to use the phone sparingly.

Right now, he was wondering if he should use it now. He just wanted to hear Trina's voice. He wanted to know that she was alright. That she was safe. He also wanted her to know that he had never meant to leave her. That when he had asked if they were together, he had meant for them to be together. That he had never meant for things to turn out like this.

Spencer began to dial her number, hoping that she hadn't changed it. He had to talk to Trina. He had to hear her voice. It only took a couple of rings, but the line was finally picked up and he nearly gasped at the sound of her soft voice.

"Hello? Who is this?" Trina asked, her voice tinged with a sadness that made Spencer's heartache.

"Trina? It's me….it's Spencer…"

"Spencer! Oh my god, Spencer, where are you? We've been looking all over for you!" alarm dripped from Trina's voice.

"I don't know where I am. Everything's a big secret."

"Oh my god, Spencer! I...I miss you so much!"

"I miss you too! Did you get the vaccine?"

There was a pause, then a sniffle. She was crying. "Yes, I got it and so did your grandmother. We're both immune now, thanks to you."

"I'd do anything for you…"

"I know. Spencer…"

"I just need you to know that...I didn't mean for this to happen...I didn't want to leave you."

"I know."

"You are the best thing that's ever happened to me, Trina."

She was openly crying now. "You are too. I...I miss you so much, Spencer. It's not the same without you. I wish you could come home…"

"I do too…," Spencer paused as he heard his Uncle's voice on the other side of the door. He inwardly cursed, wishing that he had more time. He didn't want to hang up, but he had no choice. His Uncle couldn't know that he had this phone. "I have to go. I'll call again. Take care, Trina."

And with that, he disconnected the call and quickly tossed the phone into his bedside drawer, and closed it, just as Victor came in.

"Good news my boy. Your grandmother and Trina have received the vaccine. I think that should make you happy, yes?"

Spencer simply nodded. "Yes."

"What do you say?"

"Thank you, Uncle Victor."

"Ah yes. Excellent. Dinner will start soon. I suggest you get ready. Some of the followers will be joining us tonight."

Spencer felt extreme hatred for his Uncle as he left the room. One day, his life will be his own again and then he'll make his dear Uncle pay for what he's done to him. He promised himself that.
