One World: Many Souls
Chapter 13: Sparks of Love
Angel's Point of View:
"Are ya sure yer gonna to be okay by yerself here?" Sans questioned me for a fifth time while I sat there on the couch of our home. It had only been a couple days since we'd seen Alyphs and she'd told me I was six months pregnant with my twins. I was feeling tired and somewhat sore as I just lounged, but I wasn't about to hold Sans back from his job any longer. He was needed back at the university. He also needed to save up his time off days for when the children were born in October.
"I'll be fine, don't worry about me." I stretched my arms over my head while I tried to relax into the cushions with my pillows surrounding me to help myself get comfortable. "You can't afford to miss anymore work. And Papy's going to be here in a couple hours after his class and Frisk will be here after school ends at three. I'll be fine for a bit before they get here. I'm just gonna nap…"
"If yer sure… I can always talk to Tori-"
"Darling, I'm going to be perfectly fine." I reached up then to lovingly stroke his cheekbone. "Sans, go to work, I have your number in case anything comes up, okay?"
Sans sighed deeply before he slowly nodded. "Okay… I'll be back after my evenin' class 'round six, okay?"
"Yes, I'll be fine and Papy will be whipping up something amazing for us to eat." I had just started to close my eyes when I felt our loveable little furball come up and curled up on my hip, just within reach of petting. Our newest member of the family I just had to have when I saw her being given up for adoption by a lovely couple down the street. "And even Ebony agrees."
"Okay, okay. I'm goin'." A loving touch of our heads he gave me before he took off. With Sans' constant attentiveness off me, I could finally really relax for a moment and sleep.
I felt I had only closed my eyes for a few moments when I heard the phone ringing. I blinked before reaching for my phone just as I heard the front door close. The one who had been calling was Papyrus, who I wasn't expecting to hear from until after his classes that he'd left for at six am.
"Hello?" I answered the phone while continuing to stay laid down. Ebony appreciated it as she purred on my hip.
"Sister…" The sob that came through the phone had me sitting up quicker than anything and agitating the ache in my body. Ebony screeched and ran away from me, glaring from where she sat on the other end of the couch
"Papy?! What's wrong?"
"I… I don't know… I feel very strange and there's something attached to my soul!"
"What?" I blinked before looking to the front door to see if Sans was still brooding around and perhaps hadn't left at that moment. "Do you want me to get Sans? He might still be around-"
"No!" His screeching cry startled me. "Don't bother Sans!"
"But Papy…" I hesitated before I pushed myself up to a standing position and began walking to find my shoes. "Where are you?"
"I… I'm in the backyard…"
I hurried on my feet to make my way across the house while keeping my stress down. Everyone was always telling me it wasn't good for the babies. "What?! Did you not go to class today?"
"No… I don't feel right… and I was sick this morning… I didn't want to make any other college ill…"
I groaned at him over the phone. "Then why didn't you stay home in bed?"
"But then Sans would have stayed home for both of us. He wouldn't have left if you or I were sick and he needed to go back to work…"
I pushed open the back door then, phone still in hand while I stepped down onto the grass before seeing Papyrus gently swinging on my playset. He was curled up, holding himself while his scarf sat around his neck, not blowing in the wind like it normally was when he was confidently running around the house. It was limp, something that Papyrus never let happen.
He looked so sullen into himself, even as I approached he couldn't bring himself to stand and cheer, or hug me, he just… sat there.
He certainly wasn't well…
"Papy?" He lifted his head then as I approached and shut off my phone. He put his away as well and returned to looking at the ground with tears rolling down his cheek bones. "Papy, sweetheart, come on… talk to me. What's wrong?"
"Y-yes… well… I haven't felt very good for the last few days, but this one has been the worst…" He gestured to a bucket he'd set beside him that was filled with contents I neither wanted to describe nor look at. "I've been incredibly sore lately… and I'm so emotional, I can't stop crying… I don't know what's wrong!"
"Hush… It's okay Papy." I rubbed the arms of my younger brother. "Let's just take a moment to breathe. Okay?"
While Papyrus was internally trying to calm down, I was trying to figure out what in the world could be wrong with him. Papyrus never let things get to him, and he was one never to not tell Sans something if anything was wrong. To have him confide in me both made me happy as well as worried since he wasn't doing his normal habits.
The symptoms he talked about was worrisome too, and if he had been a woman I would have instantly suggested he was pregnant…
Wait…
Oh god…
The thought quickly brought me back to a conversation that Sans told me of when we talked about having children once before.
Well… when skeletons mate, as ya know we don't really have physical bodes. Our magic makes up for what we don't have, but we don't really have reproductive organs. We actually have kids through our souls. A lot of monsters will do that if their bodies can't produce a child a normal way. It's like… instead of a couple makin' a kid with their DNA, their makin' it with their magic, which is still a large part of them. Does that make any sense?
If that's the case, then doesn't that mean that it would cross the barrier of genders too?
Yeah, and sometimes, in rare cases, it's the male who can carry the child, perhaps because they're more physically or mentally able then their partner. Not sure, depends with every case. We really don't have a lot of examples. But what I do know is that the combined souls create a spark, the beginnings of a soul that will then feed on the parent that it attached itself to until it becomes its brightest and is ready for birth. When that happens, doctors need to be ready since if the parent is on their own, it could end badly if they are weaker or run out of magic while the child feeds from them ta rapidly grow ta an acceptable size ta be ready for the world.
Wow… that's so crazy… but wait? Does that depend on if they have a womb or not? If I have one already, would that happen to me?
Nah, Precious. If ya have a working uterus already, the soul will simply move down there to where it's safely protected and will grow at a natural rate, granted the kid would then take on more of yer features then mine, bein' grown in a human body rather than by magic.
Would that offend you? To have human looking children?
I'd rather them and ya be safe, havin' a child like us skeletons have ta is not always the safest thin'… and while yer magic is tied ta my own and very powerful, I'd still worry endlessly. I'd rather ya not go through that just ta make a child that looked like me.
…Like your mom?
Yeah… I've never been mad at Pap or anyone for her death, but she was real sick after he was born… I don't want ya1 to go through that Angel…
It's okay, Darling, I'm not going anywhere…
That conversation I'd had with Sans was more enlightening than I thought. Perhaps… Papyrus was carrying a spark?
"Papy?" He carefully lifted his head to look at me. "Can I see your soul?"
"Okay…" My younger brother pulled out the soul that lived in his ribs and carefully showed it to me. His pure white soul appeared at his fingertips and quickly I could see that there was a small glittering spark attached to the upper right corner of his soul. I blinked at it, looking at it closely before I looked back up at Papyrus' face.
"Papy, is this what you were talking about?" I gently pointed to the little spark.
"Y-yes…"
"Now, I have a question, and I need you to be honest with me. Okay?" He nodded slowly while I continued to try and show affection and calm him down. "Have you and Mettaton… become sexually active?"
"W-what?!" Papyrus flew up from his swing, but quickly did I see him become queasy and grabbed the bucket for him to puke in. I rubbed the back of his spine to try to calm him.
"Don't move so quickly Papy, it won't help your tummy."
"Y-yes Angel…" Papyrus slowly pulled back and breathed deeply before he sat on the ground. "Me and Mettaton… we, I should have known better…"
I raised my eyebrows at him. "So, you did? It's normal for people your own age to want to move onto the next step of their relationship with their partner, Papy. It's nothing to be ashamed of."
"Even if I might be carrying a child?"
"I'm not mad Papy, but is this why you didn't want to show Sans?"
Papyrus began then to sob once more. "I don't want him to be disappointed in me!"
"Why on earth would he think that?" I tried to keep my words soft with how distraught Papyrus was.
"I've never been so irresponsible before… Sans always was so good… you're married and knew you wanted children before you got pregnant… I'm still in school, living out of your home and not my own and Mettaton is just starting out her career up here! I'm going to ruin all their lives… I wouldn't even be able to provide for this child…"
Moreover, that popped the short fuse I had. "Papyrus, you stop thinking like that this instant!"
The younger skeleton jumped in his spot at my voice and flinched when he saw the irritation on my face. I couldn't help but deflate almost immediately at his meek looking appearance.
"Papy, don't think like that. It was an accident, yes, but never think that we're going to throw you out on the street because of it. We'd be more than happy to help you, and I'm sure that Mettaton and Sans will feel the same way. First, we need to get you looked at; see what you need to help you first. After that, we're going to go see Sans during his lunch break around two. Mettaton we'll talk to tonight. Okay?"
"Oh… okay…" Papyrus took a deep breath to try and calm himself, but he still struggled regardless and ended up sobbing into my shoulder. "Thank you…. Sister…"
"Come on now; let's go get into the car. I just need to leave a note for Frisk so she doesn't freak out when she gets home and we're not here." Papyrus nodded and slowly made his way to the car at the front. "And I'll grab you a bag in case you don't feel well!"
Later That Day:
Traveling onto the Ebbot campus was easy once the front office manager knew who I was and where I needed to go. Papyrus and I were easily led to where my husband spent time with his co-workers and students. We were shown into a large building for the sciences before being led into a large lecture hall where a few students seemed to linger while the door at the back seemed ajar just a bit. I'd never been into Sans' office in the entire time I'd been here, so I looked for anyone who would know where he'd be.
"Excuse me?" I stopped before a young girl most likely around the same age as myself or a tad younger. She glanced up through tiny framed glasses at me. "You don't happen to know where Professor Sans would be, would you?"
"The skeleton professor, right?" I nodded eagerly at her. "Yeah, in his office. He's probably having lunch right now, doesn't normally take questions during that time, lady."
"Well it's a good thing I'm his wife then, isn't it." She straitened her posture a bit at that before I breezed past her, Papyrus followed after me worriedly. I could see he was still very nervous about what the doctor had told him.
He was pregnant; he had a spark attached to his soul. It would probably be the end of November before his spark would be ready to birth, but that still gave us nearly four months to prepare for him and Mettaton. Papyrus could still go to school; he would just need to take it a bit easier as the date approached.
At least we'd be pregnant together.
I knocked on the door to Sans' office as the girl had pointed out before I heard a sigh from the other side.
"Not taking any questions right now. Come back after three."
I giggled from the other side. "Not even from your wife? Shame on you, Darling."
A flash of blue came from the other side of the door before it swung open and Sans was there, wide eyed and checking me over for anything wrong.
"Angel?! Are you hurt? What happened?" He roughly set his hands on my shoulders and shook lightly afraid to move me much because of our children I carried. "Why didn't you call me if something was wrong?! I said I'd come home."
"I'm fine Sans, really." I leaned forward to peck his teeth. "Not a single thing has happened to me to put stress on my body or the babies. I'm fine."
He let out a deep breath, happy to hear that. "Thank God…"
His head fell forward onto my shoulder and he held me as best he could with my enlarged abdomen. I wasn't near full size yet, but having twins made me appear much larger then I actually was. I rubbed the back of his skull to comfort him while he nuzzled into my warmth.
Sans suddenly pulled back. "Wait, if you're here and you're fine, then why are you here? Not that I ain't happy to see you. But…"
"There is… another reason for our visit." I glanced back at Papyrus, who Sans just seemed to take noticed of with his meeker looking appearance. Hands before his ribs, still did the tears escaped the younger skeleton's eye sockets. Papyrus couldn't even bring himself to face his brother.
That caught my husband's attention.
"Pap?" Sans slowly pulled away from me and reached for his brother. "What's the matter? The Great Papyrus doesn't cry at just anythin'."
And that was the final straw…
Papyrus shrieked out and sobbed loudly, causing many of the students in the lecture hall to watch on the scene with surprise and worry. I glanced over at them with a critical eye that forced many of them to look away. When I glanced back, Sans was still struggling to calm Papyrus who just couldn't stop crying.
"Perhaps we should do this a bit more in a private space?" I suggested quickly. Sans eagerly nodded before he passed Papyrus to me and looked out to the students in the area.
"Alright everyone, this ain't a show. My classroom is off limits for the rest of the hour until class starts. Everyone out!" Using his magic, Sans opened wide the doors to his room and everyone flocked out, both humans and previous underground residents. When not a single soul other than us three remained, I used my magic to lock the doors with chains. Once they were gone, Sans pulled us into his office where he'd been only moments before and close the door behind us, no possible way that anyone could enter.
Sans sighed and sunk into his chair, letting his head fall in his hand. "Alright, what's going on?"
Papyrus looked over to me worriedly, tears still streaming before I nodded to him. Once Papyrus sucked in a breath, he pulled out his soul for Sans to see. The older brother narrowed his eye sockets as he watched Papyrus do as such, but one he saw the spark on the side of his soul did things really hit him. Sans' jaw dropped and his eyes sockets didn't leave Papyrus' soul.
"…Oh."
"You can see why we needed to speak with you in private." I continued to rub Papyrus' arm while he stood there, exposed and very afraid. "It's okay, Papy. Deep breaths."
"Sans…?" Papyrus' voice squeaked as he watched his brother nervously.
"So this is why you've been actin' so different." Sans sighed before he motioned Papyrus to come close to him with a wave of his hand. When Papyrus came in close, Sans quickly hugged him tightly. "Damn Pap… I was so worried it was somethin' else…"
"Y-you're not mad…?"
"Not gonna lie, little Bro, but I'm scared for ya." Sans reached up to rub Papyrus' head in comfort, even if he had to reach up on his tip toes. "Ya remember how I told ya it went with Mom?"
Papyrus lowered his head. "Y-yes…"
"Just… be careful is all I'm askin'. Yer a lot like her, in more ways than one. But ya have a stronger body then she did… I guess what I'm hopin' will happen is ya'll stick close by me and Angel until our niece or nephew is born to make sure the two of ya are okay before ya go anywhere too crazy."
"…You want me to stay?"
"Pap, where in the world did ya ever think I'd throw ya out?" Sans looked at his brother in a dumbfounded manor while I leaned against the desk, trying to take pressure off my back without actually sitting down.
"I don't know!" Papyrus wailed and once again Sans was struggling to calm him down. My husband struggled with him much like Frisk during the beginning of her teenage years. "I don't feel right! I'm all sore and emotional and I can't go two seconds without feeling pathetic or crying! I hate this, Brother! I want things to go back to normal! When I was really the Great Papyrus!"
"Welcome to my world Papy." I motioned for my little brother to come with me. "You just described everything that I've been hiding from everyone when I'm not well."
"What?!" Sans turned on me in a millisecond. "But ya said-"
"I said that to get you out of the house, back to work, and have a few moments to myself Sans." I rolled my eyes and moved to sit down at the chair of Sans' desk, my feet starting to hurt from the constant walking. "Yes, there are moments where I feel just as terrible as Papyrus is feeling right now; it's the hormones with pregnancy. But I'm fine right now."
"Sister… I pushed you, didn't I?" Papyrus looked so defeated in that moment that he sunk to the floor. "I'm a terrible brother!"
"Papyrus, no you are not!" I sighed and held my head in my hands, attempting to milk away a headache. Exhaustion was catching up with me quickly and Sans was quick to notice that. "Don't say those things…"
"Precious, let's get ya home. Ya too Pap." Sans hurried over to my side and helped me stand. "Where did ya park the car?"
Papyrus' shoulder sunk as he watched us. "In the staff lot on the other side of the culinary building."
"Good, hand over the keys." Sans quickly held out his hand for them while Papyrus dug into his pocket and handled over the little metal pieces without any hesitance. "I'll drive ya two home and get ya settled before my class. I'll pick up somethin' for dinner while ya two rest, okay?"
I eagerly perked up at the mention of food and cravings started to hit me. "If you're taking requests, I want mint chocolate chip ice cream with mushroom, sausage and pepperoni pizza. Oh! And mozzarella sticks!"
"I want some too!" Papyrus was quick to lean on his brother who struggled under the weight of us both. "I want a milkshake! Large with extra sprinkles! Can we, Brother? Can we?"
"Okay," Sans let out a deep breath as he tried to keep his sanity with both Papyrus and I pregnant now. "Now let's get ya two home and Frisk can help ya both."
Mystic's Note:
Papyrus… is pregnant… by Mettaton…. What the actual FUCK?
Halloween: I think it's great!
Me: Woman! What the hell is wrong with you?! How the fuck, to start with, does this work? And second? WHY?!
Halloween: Angel explained it, didn't she? She said how it all works with Sans' help. Doesn't that explain it?
Me: Maybe it explains the fucking biology part of it, but that doesn't answer my question as of WHY- YOU STUPID WOMAN!
Halloween: Wow… you are being incredibly rude this time around. Should I take back the chance to let you write all the notes this time?
Me: NO! I'll be good! I promise! I'm sorry! But still! WHY?!
Halloween: Why not?
Me: Woman you're killing me here!
Halloween: I know. That's the best part! Now what do we do after we have our fun talking about the chapter and bantering with each other?
Me: Reviews! Let's do it!
Thechoasmaster: Chaos! Ya need to calm down first of all. I agree with you abut that doctor because that is NOT okay. Get your weapons ready because we're going on a hunt! That doctor that told Angel she lost the babies? We're going after him first. Halloween even gave me pension! Look!
Halloween: Yep, here it is. (You look to see a well written contract that allowed that of Mystic Girl and her entourage to remove this particular character and do as they wish once he is removed from the premises. The only restrictions asked is that he fully out of Halloween's custody and that of RAWC before any sort of 'corrections' are done to that character.)
With this contract in hand, which she and I both have a copy of, you're good to go! Just make sure that with other future characters you get the same permission, and trust me there are a few documents already on my desk that she's waiting for me to sign. That I haven't yet.
And no, I'm not saying how many. XD
Shadow8Phantom: We finally stumped you Shadow!
But I do agree with you Shadow, Frisk seriously needs to get her head out of her ass too. I can't stand her like this!
Halloween: I'm glad we were able to hopefully bring a smile to your face. Yes, we are in fact having twins as the first set of kids Angel and Sans have. Not sure just yet how many more they will have, but that will come later on, depending. And yes, I'm eager for the jokes! Hopefully I can do them well! I'm not the best jokester around. That is much more Sans' department.
And as for Eryl and Victor, you know, that's a good question. I don't know if I ever put their description in! Shame on me! Blep. So, real quick set up because you're not far off. Victor is as old as Victoria Terians, has deep crows feet in this face, no facial hair, bald, though well kept, white eye brows, brown eyes. He constantly wears a reasonable but official looking dark grey suit as he caters to the Terians' Household and Head of Houses.
And then for Eryl, she is closer in age to Angel, perhaps a few years older. Tall and slender, keeps her figure well, sandy blond hair that is medium in length that she holds back in a clip designed with the Terians' house logo. She wears a blouse and pencil skirt, which are pale red in color, nothing bright or flashy. She wears rectangular glasses where the frames are very thin so you can barely tell they are there.
Not A Shady Guy: You were right Shady! We should have listened to you.
Halloween: Speak for yourself! (Halloween laughs at me) I knew this was gonna happen!
Dasansi: Okay, woah… how do you handle talking to three people at once?!
Halloween: Its pretty simple, just cover all their points! Hey Dasansi! Oscar! Roland! Glad to see you all again! Very mixed opinions over here I see! But yes, the babies survived and we have two little ones on the way! Very excited, because they are gonna have different names then I think anyone is expecting. You'll see later, but don't jostle that head too much! Try to share folks!
Me: Okay, damn woman, how do you do this every week? That was really tiring! But fun! But tiring!
Halloween: We have a lot of special people we have to talk to at the end of a chapter. So, you got a taste of what I do. Do you want to do it again?
Me: Maybe a bit later… I need a break… my brain hurts.
Halloween: That's fair. You wanna send everyone off? You know the saying right?
Me: Duh! Love you all and see you next week!
