One World: Many Souls

Chapter 14: Destroyed Among the Depths

Angel's Point of View:

Is it wrong that I was petrified? Was it wrong that I didn't want Papyrus to go through with this?

I sat within the kitchen as Papyrus rushed around to make one of the fancier dishes he'd learned from school. Using the finest ingredients, he planned to wow Mettaton, his girlfriend and the largest headache in my life that I knew would destroy him when she heard the news of their baby.

I tried to keep my thoughts to myself, to be supportive for Papyrus in every way I could. He was worried, ecstatic, and hopefully for the evening in question. It was… honestly going to break him, and I knew it before it even would happen. I was already prepared to pick up the pieces of his shattered soul when this would take place.

Papyrus planned to ask Mettaton to marry him.

I knew it was a terrible idea. Mettaton was only using him to bolster her own popularity. She had openly stated it on public television that she didn't want children, since she "didn't feel like she could provide a stable up-brining for them with her constantly on the move." I knew it was just because she didn't want children or to have to deal with them.

Papyrus on the other hand was eager to be a father and uncle all in the span of a few short months. The birthdate of his little one and our own would be close. I was due at the end of October; he was due the end of November. He commented how he wanted to share that warmth and family life with Mettaton, hence what he was planning on that night.

Sans and I watched Papyrus carefully take care of every nook and cranny of the house. He decorated the backyard where they would celebrate at dusk. He was preparing some of the desserts and other special foods a head of time to be chilled and prepared.

I couldn't help but rub my ever-growing abdomen in my worry. Sans seemed to do a similar thing as he sat by me, soda on the counter as to not give into bad habits while I couldn't have a drink with him.

"Ya sure ya don't need help there, Pap?"

Papyrus raised his skull with the brightest grin I'd seen on him in a long time. He was being too optimistically hopeful for what he planned to do.

"Not at all, Brother! I have everything covered!" Papyrus continued with making the specialty dessert that he knew Mettaton liked. A rich and expensive dark chocolate dish that incorporated many expensive berries along with it.

While the money wasn't a problem, nor the food that was thrown in our direction to try, the event in which he was planning for had us sitting on pins and needles.

"Oh Sister! Won't you try this for me?" With careful hands, Papyrus set down a lovely extra dessert he'd made of the small chocolate cake with many decorative berries. As worried as I was, the babies needed their food.

"Of course, do you have a spoon?"

"Here you are!"

Carefully handing me over the weapon of choice, I began my battle against the chocolate. One careful bite in with carefully cut berries and with a puree of their juices, the bite was rich from the chocolate, but toned down by the natural sweetness of the berries.

"It's lovely. The chocolate is rich, but the fruit brings it back and makes it so it's `not too powerful on the pallet."

"Oh, thank you Sister!" Papyrus eagerly went to fetch another he had set to the side. "Would you like one too, Brother? I know you're not normally a fan of chocolate, but this is dark chocolate, which I believe you like better than milk or white."

"Eh, I'll give it a try for ya Pap."

And thus another dessert was hurled our way. My husband took a few polite bites of it, complimented our brother's lovely cooking, and then pushed it my direction. I certainly didn't mind. The more calories I could obtain for the two little ones dancing in my tummy the better. Sans knew that too as he kept putting food toward me more often than not.

"Looks like a good spread, Bro." Sans kept a cool gaze on him, light grin to show his brother some support rather than the negative feelings we felt at the time. "What time ya gonna see the tin can?"

"Sans, that is my girlfriend. You know her name." Papyrus pouted before he looked at the clock. "And Mettaton is planning to come by later this evening, right around five when her work gets out."

I tilted my head at our brother. "Do you want us to leave by a certain point so it can stay private between you two?"

"Oh! Um… would you… mind?"

"Its fine, Papy." Taking his hand in my own when he came over before us, I gave it a squeeze. "We'll head up to the main house and spend time with Gram. We'll make sure to take Frisk with us too. Okay?"

"Thank you, Sister…"

Papyrus' Point of View:

Oh, I was so excited as I fluttered about the kitchen. I had to make sure everything was exactly as it should be before my beautiful partner arrived!

Others of my family I knew weren't exactly pleased with her, but she had changed! She was doing all she could to vouch for others, donate money she earned to hospitals and childcare facilities! She knew what she'd done to Frisk and Angel was wrong, so she wished to make up for it.

Though it was a long process, as Angel, Sans and Frisk were not as willing to forgive her as myself.

Though, I would be lying to myself if I didn't admit to my nervousness. I was dealing with a difficult hand. Having a child so young as well as so early into our careers would be difficult, and perhaps getting married so soon would make Mettaton very upset with me for what had happened.

It was incredibly rare for a male to get a spark as I had. It is much more common for a female monster to gain it rather than not. They are more built to handle the stress, the constant sucking of magic, as well as being the better caregiver in the early months of their pre-birth. For a male to take it on they must have large magic reserves, which I do! But… there still is the worry if my child could be taking most of that magic… it was what happened with Mother. I took too much of her magic that it made her sick and weak… unable to recover.

I knew that was what Angel and Sans were worried for the most when it came to my condition. As much as others do not wish to admit it… its highly possible I wouldn't survive the birth. Odds were better in recent years, but… twenty precent fatality is still a fairly high number. Mother's risk had been higher due to her lower magic reserves compared to Father. Sans and I ended up being too much like Father that it weakened Mother terribly…

I struggled to hold back the thoughts that perhaps it had been my fault for her passing… even as Sans and Father over the years had told me otherwise.

I shook the thoughts away as I brought myself to this happy occasion. Mettaton would be happy! I knew she would. She had to be! It was our little one.

Taking the time I had before she arrived, I carefully put on the suit I had from the wedding of Angel and Sans to use that evening. With time it was more properly tailored to myself, fitting like a glove the second time around I was using it. Though I did decide to opt out of a blue tie that time around and opted for a red one instead. Mettaton loved that color, so I figured it would be a bit more appropriate.

If the text message she sent me that said "I'll be the one in red. XD" didn't tell me enough, I'm not sure what would have…

While I began plating the meals I was making, I was startled away by when I heard the doorbell ring. Trying to steel the nerves I had, I hurried to the front door to invite my beloved woman inside.

"Good evening, Mettato-"

I was stunned by the beauty that stood before me. Her metallic body was overly shiny with a rich red dress that hugged her body closely. There was a large cut up the side of her tight skirt to see one of her legs slip out as she walked. There were no straps to the dress she wore, but it hugged her amazing curves well.

"Well good evening there, Darling." With a smooth voice like that of dark roast, Mettaton came to the door easily settled in to the open arms that waited for her. "Papyrus, darling how are you tonight?"

"Oh, busy as always, my dear! But more than excited to see you out of your busy schedule!" I tried to divert her for a bit while I willed myself to prepare for the later event of the night. "How has work been? I assume you have been much busier than I?"

"Oh darling!" The woman brought a hand to her face and the smile broke in her exhaustion. "You would not believe what I've been doing the past week!"

"Would you like to tell me?"

"Oh darling, you wouldn't want to hear it."

"That is up to you, but you're welcome to say while I finish up with our meals."

With a sigh, Mettaton seemed to do just that as she went on a tirade on what she'd done the previous weeks while I carefully continued to plate up out food and shift the items in the kitchen. Carefully set under the counter had been where I hid the ring box I'd gotten for Mettaton. The ring was beautiful, many diamonds set all over the bad with a large diamond at the top.

I had hoped she would love and accept it when presented later that evening… after everything..,

With swift hands, I pocketed the ring before I stood and prepared to set the first meal. Mettaton was none the wiser as she watched me set down a decedent first dish. An appetizer of rich flavor and small size to allow for room to eat the main course and dessert.

Thus continued the evening much like we always had done. Calm, beautiful seating as we chatted. Well, Mettaton mostly in that regard, while I listened and enjoyed her voice. She always was drawing me in with the many conversations she had with the people and creatures of the above ground that she'd met. Just the last day she was interviewing at a wildlife preserve to promote many foundations in keeping the forest protected from pollution and assisting in bringing back certain wildlife that have been near diminished in the last few decades.

"Ah! That was lovely, and thank you for allowing me to get the long day off my wires." Mettaton wiggled her metallic eye brows as dinner had just concluded and dessert was the last course to be had. "And you have such a rich dessert for me? And here I thought you'd hidden dessert upstairs."

"Y-yes!" I jumped at her comment in my surprise. My nerves still getting to me as I sat beside her. "I… had figured we could enjoy this dessert before anything else!"

Mettaton seemed to blink at my nervousness and folded her hands together in her lap. "Papyrus? Darling, what seems to be the matter? You've been… off… this entire event. Don't think I didn't notice."

"Ah…" With a sigh, I knew I could no longer hold back what it was that I wanted and needed to do… "I suppose there was an ulterior motive to this get together…"

Mettaton blinked at that knowledge. Though her face seemed to turn sad at the notion. "Is it your family? Are they not accepting of me after our… disagreement when back in the underground? I know they all still are uneasy around me…"

"No! Angel, Sans and Frisk have said nothing of the past! They have kept respectful of ourselves dating!"

Furrowed brows scrunched up at me. "Then… what is the problem?"

With a deep sigh, I began with the worst of the news, which I wasn't sure how she would take. Carefully pulling out my soul, I showed it to my girlfriend for her to see the little gleaming spark that was attached to myself. Mettaton didn't seem to understand what it was that I was showing her for a few moments before I saw the shine drop from her face and it paled. Wide eyes came next, her eyes glowing with a surplus of magic pulsing.

"NO!" Mettaton flew from the table quickly. "T-that! That must be a lie! Men can't be pregnant with sparks! I took every precession to make sure that I never got pregnant myself! Papyrus! Explain yourself!"

"I-it is the spark between us, Mettaton." I couldn't look at her in those moments as my gaze turned to the ground. I struggled to keep my hands from shaking while my soul returned to my ribcage. "I have been with no other person, human or monster. A-and male monsters can have sparks. Though it is incredibly rare as Sans stated. I will be due with our child in late November. Roughly the twenty-seventh…"

Allowing Mettaton to have a few moments to stare in her… astonishment, I then pulled out the ring I had bought for her. Placing it on the table for her to see, I opened the box and allowed her gaze to flash over to the shining stones.

"I wanted to propose to you. For you to become part of our family. I-I know that I am yet a student who is learning his trade still, but I will graduate soon with honors. I will build an amazing restaurant that I will turn into a chain. I do not wish to hold you back, but please, become apart of my family. Our little one would be so loved and popular… I'm sure that they would be just like you… kind and selfless…"

"…you must be joking."

I froze at those words. Not expecting to hear such hostility from the woman I cared for. I carefully lifted my head to see her. Eyes glowed in her… anger… it was anger that was on her face.

Oh no…

"Papyrus, you are the most blind and stupidest person I have met thus far!" She stomped onto the floor, leaving scuffs in her wake as she paraded around on her anger. "I used you! You were never anything to me other than to bolster my popularity! I never wanted to be a part of your family! Have you not seen the sideways glances? The hatred your sisters and brother still harbor for me? Why would I want to be anywhere near that?! I hate them for what they did to me! Your family ruined me! I only wished to get back at those measly humans for ruining my life!"

She paused for a moment to look at the ring on the table. With a snap of her wrist, she slammed the box shut.

"I will not be marrying you! I will not be here for this child's pathetic life! A child will only get in the way and will ruin both of us! I can't let a snot faced kid get in the way of my stardom! How could you do that to me Papyrus?!"

"I think that's quite enough."

Mettaton gasped as she hurled her face away from me toward the voice she heard. I couldn't look as I stared at the box with a broken soul.

She rejected me… and our little one…

"Look to the top of the refrigerator Mettaton. You should see a camera who has recorded all of your words in the last hour. Be mindful of how you present yourself now."

It was my sister's voice I heard. Had she been watching us the entire time? Did… she know about Mettaton being so cruel? Did she know this would happen to me?

"A-angel?" Mettaton I could hear was surprised, though I could hear her trying to make her voice sound pretty again. "What a delightful surprise! How are you?"

"Stop playing dumb. You're entire yelling fiasco was recorded. You can drop the act."

And stop she did, I didn't hear another word from my… ex-girlfriend.

"You are going to listen carefully to what I have to say if you don't want this conversation to be leaked to the internet and your reputation tarnished far greater than it ever was in the underground." Steps could be heard beside me and I was surprised to see my sister's butler walk in with stacks of papers, though I did see her briefly set a hand to my shoulder in comfort. "Enya has papers there for you to sign. First, you're going to sign away all your rights to Papyrus' child. Second, you also will sign a 'no-contact' contract that will forbid you from contacting Papyrus again or his child. Should either of these contracts be broken, I will release this video for the world to see just how much of a piece of garbage you are. Am I understood?"

Angel's voice was low and terrifying. This was a matter I knew she would not trifle with. But… it hurt… she was taking the mother of my child away from me… should she not be a part of their life? Wasn't that wrong?

"Oh, give me the pen you blasted bitch."

Angel said not a word as papers were passed to Mettaton and she signed with no hesitation. I finally was able to look up thought tear filled eyes as Mettaton signed quickly, no hesitation in her actions. No matter how large the stack, Mettaton just kept signing as Enya showed her where.

Why? Why didn't she want us? W-was I honestly that stupid of a person? Our baby… they were supposed to be loved by both of us…

I-I was going to be a single father? What would I do? How would I make this work? My little one…

"There, I'm done. I can go now, can I not?"

"Please don't let the door hit you on the way out."

Loud clacking of heels echoed in the hallways before the front door was ripped open and slammed shut. Moments of beaded silence came then before I heard the plops of water droplets. My tears hitting the ground as they ran.

"Papy… Sans, Frisk and I are coming home. Okay? You're not alone in this. We'll be here for you. Just sit tight, okay?"

But Angel could not keep the damn from breaking, my tears kept running and finally I felt the anguish and pain between my ribs. I screamed out and fell to the floor as I sobbed. It hurt… I'd never been hurt so terribly… why?

Why did she do that to her own family? Why did she hate me? Was I really being used? Would… my family leave me too?

Witch's Note:

Okay, we have a lot to cover here because I know we shocked the hell out of you all last time. With Papyrus being pregnant and Mystic Girl wanting to do the chapter ending piece, only so many things got said and I know a lot of you are concerned. So, we'll cover some things here in the end together about those concerns okay?

Mystic Girl: You better Halloween! Look how many people you really freaked out!

Me: I'm aware of that, and I know a lot of people have their eyes on Mettaton and are waiting for me to sign over those rights to mess around with her. You included.

Mystic Girl: Damn right I am! I got almost the entire community waiting on those!

Me: Of course, you do. Welp, someone else is gonna fall into your hands before that, but it won't be too much longer. You'll enjoy it soon enough and you know it.

Mystic Girl: (grumbles at me for that, but doesn't say much else.)

Me: Okay, I think this is a great spot to move onto reviews so we can settle a lot of issues. I hope you all can forgive me for the way this story turned, but I'll try to explain this part the best I can as we move forward. So let's do some reviews!

Thechaosmaster: Okay, so let's start by taking another long swig of that coffee okay? Or juice? Or an energy drink? Whatever it is, take a few more moments to get a good drink in.

Now, moving on, you're entirely right when it comes to some people doing fantastic illustrations or works of Papyrus and Mettaton being a good couple and parents. At one time I was even thinking of a possible redemption arc for her after the stunts she pulled in the past. However, I didn't feel like it would fit, and when I bounced that idea off of Mystic-

Mystic Girl: I said FUCK NO! I would break her hand before I'd let her do that to our poor Papy!

Me: Exactly. Plus, like I said, I was never keen on the idea as it was with the way I'd written Mettaton anyway. I always wanted to have her as a toxic character, and we truly see it here. She couldn't keep up her act as the sweet and overly kind Papyrus bent down on one knee and asked her to marry him so they could be together for their child. She was so sickened by it that her own true colors came forward.

Mystic Girl: Sick and twisted bitch doesn't deserve anything! Oh and I can't wait for that chapter you have planned for her later!

Me: (I can't help but giggle at this) Yes, yes, I know. I think everyone will be eager to see that chapter, but let's not reveal any details, okay?

Shadow8Phantom: Sorry if I freaked you out at all Shadow. It wasn't the intention when it came to doing this. I plan to use this method of childbirth for a few other characters, and with the explanation given in the chapter, it's going to lead to future pairings down the line. It also is one of the only feasible ways that the monster people were able to keep their kind alive as they lived in the underground for many years trying to survive with what little resources and help they had. I'm kinda hoping it's more the pairing type, rather than the material itself that bothers you...

Mystic Girl: Of course it would bother him! Look at all of this madness we're dealing with now!

Me: Hush you! But there will be good pairings that this will happen to down the line. But back to my previous thought, even with using this method, the monster people still lost many people while trying to give birth in this manner. It's workable, but dangerous if not enough magic is available. But sometimes that was the only way for having children since there was no other way. I hope this helps, if at all.

Dasansi: I'm starting off with the fact that we're not talking about how their acts of creating their spark came about, nor about sexual habits. That I'm going to make clear right now!

Mystic Girl: (She's merely laughing at me while I face palm)

Me: Shut up! And then moving on! Dasansi, Oscar, Roland, this is not an attention grab with Papyrus having a spark. I'm not turning this into a story where I'm forcing two characters together. As you can see, while heartbroken, Mettaton and Papyrus split up. This was always my goal, and like I said before, I thought about doing a redemption arc like a few years ago when I started writing this story, but Mystic abashed that idea and I did too. It didn't make any sense, it wasn't realistic, so that's why this happened, but this felt real. How often do you hear a story where one of the teen or young adult parents get saddled with a baby while the other one runs off. Quite often right? It's either the girl who's forced to have the baby and the guy runs off. Or the girl dumps the baby on the guy or he takes them so they don't end up in foster care.

This is my example of that, but also Papyrus is going to be in a better situation with his family and financial situation. But it's not going to be easy either. But it's fine that you take time to think of your opinion on this, I know this was a bit of a curve ball and that's okay.

Not A Shady Guy: Welp... I can see you need a second to collect your thoughts. No worries, we can chat later on, or after this chapter. Sorry, not much to respond to with one sentence... XD

MysticBoywastaken: Again, not much to respond to, but welcome to leave some comments so we can chat Mystic Boy. Hopefully this chapter and what I've noted will help with collecting thoughts.

Okay, I think we covered everything and now I think we should let everyone take a break and a breather. Some of you may be really happy, some of you may be infuriated, some may be a bit of both. More is to come, and now we need a break. I'm starting a nice vacation, for a week and a half. But I'll still be posting, so I'm not going anywhere!

Love you all and see you next week!
