Kal looked on, unable to believe his eyes.
Janner was alive!
And not just alive, but full of energy, and charging At. The. Stonekeeper!
He quickly unsheathed his sword, and told his family to get back and hide.
"We won't leave." Nia said. "We're staying here, and we're gonna fight by your side."
Kal shook his head. "As king, I'm ordering you to hide."
Nia sighed. "Kal-"
"You can't disobey the order of the king." Kal said. His eyes looked apologetic.
Nia sighed, and pulled Leeli, Arundelle, and Madya to hide.
Sara didn't want to leave.
She ran over to where the weapons were being kept, and grabbed a bow, and a quiver full of arrows.
She ran out to the battle, and turned her attention to Murgah, who was now battling one-on-one with a sword with Janner.
Sara ran over, and aimed her bow and the Stonekeeper. She put an arrow on the bowstring and let it fly.
It never hit its mark.
The arrow whizzed towards the Stonekeeper, but she saw it and ducked, so the arrow hit a Fang that was rushing to protect Murgah.
Janner took that opportunity, and swung his sword at full force towards the Stonekeeper.
She dodged it, and took that opportunity.
Sara felt as if life went into slow motion.
The Stonekeeper.
A small dagger in her hands.
Janner's abdomen unguarded as he tried to recover his sword from his hard swing.
Then it happened.
The next few seconds were a blur to Janner.
All he knew was the stabbing pain pulsing from his stomach.
He felt himself drop to his knees.
Keep fighting.
Janner grabbed his sword, and from where he sat on his knees, he swung his sword, and finished the Stonekeeper's life.
She crumpled to a pile of dust a second later.
Sara tried to run to Janner, but the battle was so heated that it blocked her.
Janner tried to stand up, but the pain was too much, so he did what he could.
Fangs saw him, and charged at him, but he quickly finished them off, fueled by his adrenaline.
And anger.
And longing for his family.
And want for the battle to be over.
Kalmar looked over, and saw his brother, with a fresh wound that was bleeding out. He immediately began swinging at Fangs, clearing a small opening for him to run to Janner.
Once he made it to his side, Kal swung one of Janner's arms over his shoulders, and lead him out of the heat of the battle.
Sara saw Kal get Janner, and quickly rushed over to them.
She would have made it had not a large Grey Fang blocked her.
It snarled, and quickly Sara knocked an arrow onto her bowstring.
Janner saw her, and the Fang, and tried to break free from Kal, but his brother held a firm grip on his arm.
Sara shot the Fang down as Janner twisted his arm out of Kalmar's grasp.
They rushed to each other, and hugged each other tightly.
Kal wanted to let them, but the battle was growing by the second.
"Uh, guys, hate to break the sweet moment, but we need to get out of here." Kal said urgently.
Janner winced at his wound. "Yeah, let's go."
The three of them hurried over to where Nia and the rest of the family was, and after a few more hugs, they set to bandaging Janner's wound.
Once they had his wound bandaged, Nia ordered Janner to rest.
"How am I supposed to rest knowing that my brother and uncle along with who knows how many Annierans and Hollishfolk are out there fighting to save our lives?" Janner asked.
The rest of his family, those that weren't fighting in the battle, were hiding in one of the town buildings. Nia had put Janner in a corner of the building, so that he could rest.
Clearly he wasn't wanting to rest.
Sara sighed, and crossed the room, and sat next to him. "Janner, you need rest. You haven't slept in...how long? And, you have a stab wound!"
Janner quieted down when he saw her eyes tear up. He leaned forward and wrapped an arm around him. She leaned into his embrace.
Then they both fell asleep like that.
Slowly, the combined army of Annierans and Hollishfolk defeated the Fangs. All that was left of them by the end of the day was dust and armor.
At the end of the day, the Annierans and Hollishfolk held a large funeral for those lost during the battle.
Luckily, there were only 10 people killed.
But it didn't take any of the pain away from the loss.
After the funeral, the people then set to rebuilding what was destroyed. Artham took a flight around the island, and found the Dragons.
Hulwen and some of her dragons were hurt, but the rest were fine. They said that the hatchlings had been attacked, so the dragons had to stay behind to protect them.
Once Artham got back to the people, the Hollishfolk were preparing to leave. They said that King Kalmar had released them, and told them to go back to their families.
Then, he went to check on Janner.
When Artham stepped into the building where his family was, now filled with wounded Annierans, Nia held up a finger to her lips and shushed him.
He looked around, and saw a lot of sleeping Annierans.
Then he saw Janner, in the corner, asleep, with an arm around Sara, who was also asleep.
Artham smiled to himself, then walked out to help the rest of the people.
