Ch12 - A Bitter Draught Pt1
My dad text me this morning, asking if I could meet him and my mom at Granny's; he was still trying to help Hyde's people, so I fired a quick text back. Letting him know that I was on my way, I showered and got dressed; before heading downstairs; grabbing my jacket, then making my way to the front door.
I turned, locking it behind me; before making the short journey to Granny's, when I got there I noticed that Killian was sitting outside. I smiled softly, when I realised where he was sitting; he just happened to be sitting at our table.
I made my way towards him, stopping when I reached him; I spoke.
"Good morning, handsome"
He nodded, while smiling at me; he then spoke.
"Good morning, love"
I smiled, before sitting down; my smile widened, as our hands entwined. He looked at me, before speaking again.
"Did you sleep well?"
I nodded, before answering him.
"Yeah I did, did you?"
He smiled, before he spoke again.
"I did, thank you; I gather you're here to help your father?"
I nodded, before speaking.
"Yeah, he text me this morning; he needs me to help him figure out how we're going to house all these people...you since their dirigible crashed"
He smiled again, before offering me his flask; I shook my head, while smiling. I spoke.
"Seriously?...Although I should be used, to how you start the day"
He laughed, before taking a sip; I laughed softly, as his eyes closed. As he enjoyed the soft burn of the rum, as it slid down his throat; when his eyes opened, he looked at me.
He spoke, in a slight teasing tone.
"Well love, it's a great way to start the day"
I laughed slightly louder at that, before standing up; inclining my head towards the door, he smiled before moving to stand up. Our hands linking again, as we walked up the steps; and through the door.
It was crowded, with Hyde's people; who were sat at the tables, we made our way towards the counter. My dad was standing at the counter, I smiled at my mom; as my dad spoke.
"Ok, room keys are on the counter; fresh clothes are by the jukebox..." I heard someone ask "What's a Jukebox?..." before my dad continued "Lunches are by the front door..."
The bell jingled, as Regina walked in; Killian spoke to her.
"Your majesty, it's about time; the rabble are getting restless"
I watched, as she scanned the room; before walking to stand at the counter, she threw the book down. The sound caused us all to jump, she then spoke.
"As mayor, I would like to officially welcome you to Storybrooke; you fled to the land of untold stories, because you were afraid that whatever was in this book is going to play out...but now that you're here, I'm sure you're scared that it will...but what you don't realise, is that I'm just like you; I'm also getting a fresh start, and I don't know what the future holds either but I... do know one thing..."
I smiled, as Killian placed his hand on my back; in a reassuring gesture, I refocused as Regina continued. "we don't have to be afraid of anything; because, whatever comes next...we're going to face it...together"
Everyone clapped, and I couldn't help but agree with her; we were going to figure this out, and we were going to help these people. When the door opened again, I heard someone speak.
"Hey does anyone know..."
I turned, gasping softly; as I realised it was Belle, I spoke.
"Belle?..."
How, was she here? I spoke again.
"You're here, and you're awake"
She smiled, before answering.
"Yeah, and I need a place to stay..."
Killian spoke.
"What about the crocodile?"
I looked at her, as her face dropped; she then spoke.
"We're...we're not together, at the moment"
My heart broke for her, and I was kind of angry too; because she been put through enough, and the last thing she needed was to worry about somewhere to stay.
She spoke again.
"So, I thought; maybe Granny would have a room..."
I interrupted her.
"I would not wish those mattresses on my worst enemy"
She laughed softly at that, as Granny turned to face me; I smiled apologetically, before opening my mouth to speak again.
"We'll find you something better..."
Killian spoke again.
"Aye, I know just the place..." before turning to face me, "What do you say Swan?"
I shook my head, while speaking; turning to face him.
"Oh, I...I have an appointment with Archie"
He smiled at me, before answering.
"Ah, you're still going to see the cricket?"
I smiled, before nodding; he spoke again.
"I'm impressed..."
I spoke.
"Did you think, that I was going to back out?"
He smiled, before he spoke again.
"Well, you know; being vulnerable, isn't exactly your strong suit"
I sighed, knowing he's right; I spoke.
"You're right, we've been through a lot; can't hurt to talk about it..."
He nodded slightly, before he spoke again.
"I'm glad to hear it, love"
He smiled, while placing his hand on my arm; before rubbing it gently, before speaking.
"Right, this lady needs to find some accommodation...right this way"
I smiled, as he left; holding the door open for Belle, that's my pirate...ever the gentleman. I took a breath, turning to face my parents; I spoke.
"I've an appointment with Archie; so I'll see you guys later"
My mom hugged me, as my dad placed his hand on the back of my head; I turned slightly, before hugging Henry. I then turned, to leave; taking another breath, before making my way to Archie's office.
When I got there, I walked in; made my way upstairs, knocking the door. I heard him speak.
"Come in, Emma"
I sighed, before opening the door; when I entered his office, he smiled at me while speaking.
"I'm surprised to see you...but I'm glad that you're here"
I smiled, before standing behind the couch; he encouraged me to sit, so I did. I sat there for a few minutes, not saying anything; because if I did, it would make everything real.
He spoke again.
"Emma, this is a safe space; you can trust me"
I sighed internally, as I heard the clock ticking; I then spoke.
"The tremors, they come with visions; or a vision...one vision actually..."
He spoke.
"What do you see, in this vision?"
I took a breath, sighing before answering him.
"Uh, alright...um, I'm on Main Street; Henry, and my family...Hook, they're all there with me; and I'm in a battle..."
Even mentioning it, seems to trigger it; so I took another breath, trying to calm myself. Archie spoke again.
"Against who?..."
I shudder, before answering.
"I can't tell, they're strong...so strong...I'm giving it my all, I almost start to win; but then my hand starts shaking..."
I stop, not being able to say it; when Archie speaks.
"And what happens then, Emma?"
I sigh again, as it replays in my head; I lower my tone, to barely above a whisper before answering him.
"I die...That's the first time, I've said that out loud"
He looked at me, before speaking.
"Well I think, the more you talk about it; the less it will haunt you"
I can't talk about it, not yet; I spoke again.
"You think, I should tell my family?"
He sighed, before answering me.
"Well..I mean, the question is; why haven't you?"
It was my turn to sigh again, when I gave my reason.
"Because, I know exactly what they would do; they would tell me to stop what I'm doing, until they could save the day"
He spoke, while trying his best to sound reassuring.
"What would be so wrong about them trying to protect you?"
I shrugged internally, before speaking again.
"Because I'm the saviour..."
He interrupted me.
"And the saviour can't take the day off?"
I spoke, in a slight defensive tone.
"If I don't help people, then who am I?"
He sighed, while keeping his tone reassuring.
"I don't know Emma, I mean, that's uh..." he sighed again, leaning towards me, before continuing. "that's a question, you have to ask yourself"
I groaned, before I spoke.
"Ok, I'm not here; for some identity crisis, I just want you to help me figure out how to win this fight and protect the people I love"
He shook his head, before answering.
"I think you're here, for me to help you; deal with whatever's troubling you, and if that's an identity crisis...then..."
Ok, this is not what I need to hear right now; I moved to stand up, while speaking.
"Ok, this was a mistake..."
He spoke.
"Emma..."
I stood up, wrenching the door open; leaving, feeling even more helpless than I did when I walked in. Obviously I'm going to have to deal with this on my own, because as I pointed out; my parents would make things worse, and Killian would go into over protective mode.
That's not what I need, because what I need; is for the visions to stop, and if that means I die...then fine, but I'm not telling my parents. And Archie can't tell them either, so my secrets safe; which is fine...
