Ch14 - A Bitter Draught Pt3 (Regina'a POV)

Who would have the knowledge to cast a protection spell? I tried to come up with an answer, only to be shaken from my thoughts; as Henry made his way towards me.

"Where's mom? Is she ok?...What about Grandma, and Grandpa?"

I smiled, as he looked at me; concern in his eyes, I spoke while reassuring him.

"Emma's ok, so are Snow and Charming; they couldn't leave, because someone has placed a protection spell on the town line. But don't worry, I'm going to try and stop the Count; so I need your help; you'll need to bring your book too"

He nodded, before speaking.

"Where are we going?"

I tilted my head, before answering him.

"The crash site, the Counts invitation; it stated that he would be there"

He nodded, before following me; and as we made our way back to the crash site, Henry opened his book. I smiled, when I remembered he wasn't a child anymore.

Henry spoke, as we got closer to the crash site.

"I know you think, this was your fault mom"

I sighed, before speaking.

"That's not it, Henry; I stood up in Granny's and told everyone from the land of untold stories, not to be afraid...they've only been here one day, I can't let the first story play out like this; not when I'm the one, that started it all"

I gasped, stopping in my tracks; as I spotted someone, a young woman. She looked like she had been poisoned, and I knew instantly what kind of poison it was.

I placed my arm out, to stop Henry from walking ahead of me; he spoke.

"Mom..."

I spoke quickly.

"He poisoned her, with the poison I gave him"

I reached out to touch her, only to be blasted back; I gasped, Henry spoke again.

"Mom, are you ok?"

I spoke, while feeling slightly stunned.

"What the hell was that?...What the hell is going on?"

I froze, when I heard a voice...my voice, but it couldn't be; I looked up; as they spoke.

"The handmaiden's story, finally caught up with her; just like yours is catching up with you"

I turned around, coming face to face with The Evil Queen; my eyes widened, because I destroyed her...I crushed her heart...so how was she here?

She spoke again.

"Miss me?"

I looked at her, while she spoke to Henry.

"Hi sweetie, mommy's back"

I spoke.

"No...I killed you"

She stared at me, before speaking.

"Did you really think, it would be that easy?"

I heard Henry.

"Mom"

I spoke, while pushing him behind me.

"Get behind me, honey"

She continued to stare at me, as she spoke again.

"After everything I did for you...after everything we accomplished together; you threw me away, like I never existed..."

I was beginning to wish that, she never had the chance to exist in the first place; I spoke.

"No, I threw you away; because you existed"

I got ready to throw a fireball at her, but nothing happened; what was happening? Why can't I hurt her? I spoke.

"What the hell?"

She sighed, before speaking.

"I laced the girls cloak, with a magic dampening spell"

I sighed, knowing that I should have known that; I spoke again.

"I should have known, you've been controlling the Count; this whole time"

She rolled her eyes at me, before answering me.

"Well of course I have..." she conjured up his heart, before continuing. "I don't leave things to chance"

That would explain everything, I spoke.

"That's why, he didn't want my help; that's why he said, I couldn't stop him"

She smirked, before speaking again.

"You ordered the Count to kill Snow and Charming, all those years ago, so now...that's exactly what he's going to do"

Her laughter pierced the air, as she spoke again. "You should be thanking me" Before vanishing. I turned to face Henry, before speaking.

"I'm sorry that you had to hear that, but I meant when I said that I was putting her and all those things I did; behind me, so why don't you go back to Granny's and I'll go and save Snow and Charming...I promise everything's going to be fine, I'll see you later"

He nodded, before looking at me; he spoke.

"I understand, but I'm coming with you"

I nodded, I'm understanding; before we made our way back into town, before heading to find the Charming's. We went to the loft first, finding it empty; we then headed to the station, hoping that they were there.

It was empty too, so we then headed to the docks; where I spotted them, on the ground. The Count, was standing above them, I made my way closer; reminding myself that I promised Henry I would save them; because I'm trying to be a hero, and hero's always save people.

I told Henry to hide, before moving towards them; I heard him speak.

"I'm sorry, all I wanted was a fresh start"

Oh no you don't, this ends now! I grabbed a sword, before leaning down; my blade, clashing with his. I spoke.

"You can still get one..."

Before engaging him, our swords clashed; our blades crossed, as I leaned down. Speaking while doing so.

"Listen, I know the Evil Queen; has your heart, but you can fight this..."

He threw me back, as he pushed away from me; his blade pointed in my direction. I spoke again.

"Ok, that's a start"

He raised his voice, as he spoke.

"I've tried to fight! I can't!"

He finished speaking, as our blades clashed once more; I was being pushed back, as he advanced on me. The sound of our blades clashing, permeating the air; he got closer, our swords crossed again.

This time the blades were trained on me, I spoke.

"Your story, doesn't have to end like this..."

He gritted his teeth, before speaking.

"My story ended, the second that Hyde plucked us from the land of Untold Stories!"

I pushed forward, trying to get him away from me; it worked for a second, as I fought to keep the crossed blades away from my neck. I spoke again.

"You mean Charlotte? I'm sorry, I was too late"

He sighed, before answering.

"So the poison, finally took her?"

He was distracted, with the grief of his loss; so I managed to push him away, his stance faltered. As I spoke again.

"I may not, have been able to save her; but I am going to save you!"

He lunged at me, making our swords clash again; why was he doing this? Why wouldn't he let me help him? As we continued fighting, he managed to throw me to the ground; I tried to throw a fireball, forgetting that I couldn't.

That stupid dampening spell was still in effect, I spoke; while standing up.

"Henry, call Emma! I could use some of her magic, right about now"

I heard him speak, as I was overpowered again.

"I can't, it's the Queen; she did something"

Great, so I'm alone in this; my sword was knocked out of my hand, as the Count laughed. He turned, making his way towards Snow and Charming; it was obvious that he was going to kill them.

I grabbed the sword off the ground, then spoke.

"Stop! Please!"

He turned to face me, before speaking.

"This is the only way!"

I froze, as I mentally prepared myself to stop him; in any way I could. I yelled, as I threw the sword; I watched as it flew through the air, before it pierced his flesh.

I watched as he fell to the ground, I ran towards him; crouching down, while speaking.

"No!"

I froze, as I leaned down to check him; fear running through me, as I heard Henry speak.

"Mom...Mom are you ok?"

I felt tears build up in my eyes, as I spoke again.

"I'm so sorry..."

Henry spoke.

"Mom...Mom..."

My breathing shuddered, as I spoke to him.

"Henry"

He spoke again, while placing his hands on my shoulders; I reached up, placing my hands on his.

"You did what you had to"

I turned, while sobbing softly; my mind raced, as I realised I was still Evil...even though I got rid of her, she still resided inside me. I didn't want to kill him, that wasn't my intention; but he just wasn't going to stop, so I had to stop him.

I heard Charming speak.

"Edmond..."

Snow spoke then.

"No..."

I spoke.

"I had no choice"

Another voice spoke.

"No, that's not true"

Seriously! I looked up, as Snow and Charming got up; while turning to face her, Charming spoke.

"So she is back..."

I spoke again.

"I couldn't just stand by, and watch the Count kill my friends..."

She stared at me, while she spoke.

"Oh, I thought hero's; always found a third way, unless of course...that means you're not a hero"

That's it Queenie!...

I yelled; as I lunged towards her, she laughed at me. I grabbed her, while speaking.

"I will rip your heart out!"

She smirked at me, while speaking.

"Yes? That's the Regina, I remember...We do like it rough, don't we?"

I shoved her away, as I realised what she really wanted; I spoke.

"You didn't want the Count, to kill Snow and David; you wanted me to kill him"

She tilted her head, as she answered me.

"It was the only way, to show you; that no matter, what you do...the darkness, will always be inside. And that tiny bit of darkness, I awakened today; is only going to grow..."

I heard Snow move, as she spoke.

"Don't listen to her Regina"

The Queen sneered, as she addressed her.

"Snow White!"

I guess she hasn't forgiven Snow, I heard David speak.

"Snow..."

She answered him.

"No, I'm not afraid of her; we defeated you before, we'll do it again..."

The Queen, spoke; her tone, almost condescending.

"Oh I'm not the one, who's going to your happy endings; not this time..."

I didn't like the sound of that, so I spoke again.

"Then who is?"

The Queen stared at me, before speaking.

"You...you're going to destroy everyone's happy endings"

I heard Snow speak, she tried her best to sound confident; as she did.

"You won't divide this family..."

The Queen smirked at her, as she spoke.

"Oh I won't have to, the people from the land of untold stories; aren't the only ones, with tales they don't want told...and when your stories, finally play out...I'll just sit back and watch you..." she paused, before speaking; in a singsong voice. "Tear yourselves apart..."

I shuddered inwardly, as she finished speaking; I kind of forgot how sadistic I was...no, how sadistic; she is...she laughed as she disappeared again.

I turned around to face Snow, I guess she was used to this; whereas I wasn't, I noticed David had the same look on his face too. Henry cleared his throat, before speaking.

"So she's definitely back..."

I nodded, before speaking.

"I guess so, but I just don't know how"

Snow spoke, while keeping to keep her tone light.

"Let's head back to Granny's, I'm sure Emma's there; we need to fill her in, on what's just happened"

We made our way back to Granny's, we walked inside; and found Emma at one of the booths, we sat down. I took a breath, before speaking.

"The Evil Queen is back"

Emma's eyes widened, as she spoke.

"How?..."

I shrugged, before continuing.

"And I killed the Count..."

Emma gasped, before Snow spoke.

"Regina, it's not your fault..."

I chuckled, sarcastically; while speaking.

"Right..."

Snow sighed, before continuing.

"She trapped you, you didn't have a choice"

I sighed, before speaking.

"Of course I had a choice, I could have kept the Evil Queen inside; where she was my problem..."

Emma interrupted me.

"No, this is exactly what she wants, she wants you to doubt yourself..."

My mind screamed at her "Don't you think I don't know that?" I spoke.

"She's doing a hell of a job"

Snow interrupted me, this time.

"Look, Regina; this may be new to you, but I've faced the Evil Queen before. And I never once, did it; by running away, ok we have to face her head on...get ahead of her plan..."

Get ahead? How are we going to do that? I spoke again.

"And how exactly, do we do that?"

Snow scoffed slightly, before speaking.

"I don't know, this is the one time; we are going to ask you, to please...think like the Evil Queen, what did she mean; when she said, that we all have stories we don't want told?"

I sighed, while trying to think of an answer; when I opened my mouth to speak, I noticed that Emma's hand began to shake. Sort of how it did yesterday, and she had that dazed look again; I looked at her, before speaking.

"Emma, are you ok?"

She looked at me, while lifting her cup; before speaking.

"Yeah I'm fine..."

Obviously she's not, but I guess she'll tell us; when she's ready, that's the one thing I've noticed about Emma. She only let's people in, when she feels like she can trust them; I know we've had our differences over the past couple of years, but I would like to think we now trust each other.

I sighed, as Captain Guyliner walked in; making his way to where Henry was sitting, I heard him speak.

"This isn't how the Count's story, should have ended..."

I didn't catch the rest of what he was saying, as David stood in front of him; blocking me from hearing what he was saying. I guess I'll find out how the Count's story was supposed to end, some other time...
