Ch24 - Dark Waters
I sighed softly, as I reached across the bed; silently hoping to spend a quiet moment with my pirate, I groaned when I realised the sheet was cool on his side of the bed.
He must have gotten up, without waking me; which is unusual. Because if one of us gets up, the other wakes up too. I sat up, looking for any sign of him; I got up, padding across to the bathroom.
His sleepwear, was in the hamper; so he's been up for a while, I went back into the bedroom. Getting dressed, before heading downstairs. I walked into the kitchen, only to be greeted by Henry.
I spoke.
"Morning kid"
He smiled, before speaking.
"Morning mom"
He walked past me, heading towards the cabinets; he lifted out a box of poptarts, I grinned as he got to work on his breakfast.
I spoke again.
"Hey kid, have you seen Killian; this morning?"
He nodded, before answering.
"Yeah, he was in here; when I got up, he mentioned something about the garage"
I nodded, before making myself a cup of coffee; I stood at the sink, looking out the window. My thoughts drifted, what was Killian doing in the garage?
I sat down at the table, as Henry was tucking into his breakfast; I heard the back door open and close, as Killian made his way into the kitchen.
I smiled softly, before speaking;
"Hey". He smiled, as he spoke. "Hey" I stood up, before speaking again.
"You where up awfully early this morning, what were you doing out in the garage?"
He sighed softly, before answering.
"I was just doing a little gardening"
Gardening? I smiled softly, before speaking again; my tone light and teasing.
"Really? I had no idea, you had a...green hook"
He grinned, before he spoke.
"So, what's for breakfast?"
I was about to answer him, when my phone buzzed; it was Jasmine.
"Emma, I'm sorry; if I disturbed you, it's Aladdin. He's gone, and I have no idea where he is"
I spoke, concern; lacing my tone, as I did.
"It's Jasmine, she's worried; because Aladdin ran off, she doesn't know where he is"
Killian spoke.
"Don't worry Swan, I'll make sure; the lad doesn't get into too much trouble"
I smiled softly, before grabbing my jacket; moving towards him, speaking, as I kissed his cheek.
"Thanks Killian"
Before heading to the front hall, to put my shoes on; I heard them, talk as I left. I smiled when Henry said, that he'd be fine on his own; as I walked out the door.
Grabbing my keys, before getting into my car; If I was Aladdin, where would I be? And more importantly, what would I do?
I made my way, into town; heading in the direction of Main Street; hoping that he would be there, I turned the corner. I passed Granny's, sighing; as he wasn't there, I was just passing Gold's, when I spotted him.
It looked like, he was trying to hijack a car; I stopped, before getting out of my car. Walking towards him, just as he managed to get the door open; he then lifted the wallet out of the car.
I approached him, his back was to me; I spoke.
"Really?"
He turned towards me, before answering.
"Emma, this is not what it looks like" he paused, as he leaned against the car. "This is my new car"
I spoke, skepticism lacing my tone; as I did.
"Oh really? So you traded in your flying carpet, for a Miata?"
He nodded, before speaking.
"Yeah, it gets great mileage"
I huffed slightly, before answering.
"Sure, right..." I took the wallet from him, before continuing. "Let's take a drive, we need to talk"
He spoke.
"Jasmine sent you? Sorry not in the mood"
My features hardened, as I spoke again.
"I wasn't asking"
I led him back towards where my car was parked; he got into the passenger seat, before I made my way to the drivers side. I spoke, before starting the car.
"Do you wanna tell me, why you ran off?"
He shook his head, while not speaking; I sighed, before starting the car, heading back through Main Street. The journey through town, was quiet; I spoke again.
You were right, Jasmine did send me; she's worried about you"
He sighed, still not saying anything; this is going to sound strange, but I actually prefer his cartoon counterpart. I decided that it would be better, to take him to the town line.
Maybe then, he'd understand; I turned, to drive in the direction of the town line. Aladdin spoke.
"Where are you taking me?"
I sighed, before speaking.
"You'll see"
We made the quick journey, in a somewhat comfortable silence; I stopped a few feet away from the boarder, before stopping the car.
I got out, Aladdin followed me; he spoke.
"If this is some kind of, nature therapy; you should know, woods aren't really my thing"
I spoke.
"Come on, you'll see"
I raised my hand, gesturing to the sign in front of me; he walked towards it, reading it out loud.
"Welcome to Storybrooke" I sighed, before speaking. "Look closer" he sighed, before he spoke again. "Alright"
He sighed again, as he crouched down; he spoke again.
"So? It's been repaired? Drunk driver must have hit it"
I cringed internally, as I remembered what happened; I then spoke.
"Well despite, how strongly Regina spiked her cider; I was not drunk"
He looked up at me, moving to stand again; as he spoke.
"You did this?"
I nodded, before answering.
"Yeah, I hit the sign; right after Henry tried to convince me, that I was Storybrooke's saviour"
He looked slightly perplexed, as he spoke again.
"Hang on...so...you...you, Emma Swan; you ran?"
I nodded again, while speaking.
"It wasn't the only time"
He spoke again.
"When was the last?"
I sighed softly, before answering.
"Yesterday, when you gave me the shears"
He spoke quickly.
"But...but you got rid of them"
I answered, with the same quickness.
"Told my family, I was worried; somebody would use them, as a weapon against me" He spoke. "That's not true?"
I crossed my arms, before speaking.
"I was...worried that I might use them" He nodded, in understanding; as I continued. "Every time, I think about the vision of my future; I think about my trembling hand and...imagine my family, having to watch me die. And I wish, I never became the saviour; so I knew, I could not have that thing anywhere near me"
Aladdin spoke again.
"Then tell me, what do I do now?"
I sighed, before answering.
"What I did, all the times I ran...I came back; faced the people, I disappointed and tried to make up for my mistakes"
He repeated my last words.
"My mistakes?...Whatever happened to Agrabah...was all my fault, I don't even know; where to start, to fix it"
I looked at him, before I spoke again.
"You don't even know, what happened. Maybe that's where you start, can't fix a problem; until you know, what it is"
He nodded, before dropping his gaze from mine; I could see in his eyes, that he knew I was right. He spoke.
"Can we head back? I need to speak to someone"
I nodded, before we got back into the car; we made our way back to Granny's, I knew who he was going to talk to. But I didn't want to say anything, I dropped him off; before heading home.
When I got there, I called out.
"Henry?...Killian, I'm back"
No answer, I made my way into the kitchen; the back door was ajar. I walked outside, that's when I noticed the trash bag, the open garage door and Henry's video game controller.
Something happened, I took my phone out of my pocket; dialling Henry's number, it went straight to voicemail. I then called Killian, it rang; several times, before cutting off.
I text Regina.
"Is Henry with you?"
She replied.
"No, I haven't seen him today"
I thanked her, before trying Henry again. It went to voicemail again, I left one.
"Henry, it's mom; where are you? Call me when you get this"
I placed my phone on the kitchen counter, before making some hot cocoa; if something happened, I would have found out before now.
I lifted my cup and the cocoa powder, before heating the milk; my nerves were on edge, as I stirred the cocoa powder into the milk.
Deciding against adding cinnamon, which is unusual; even for me, I poured the hot liquid into the cup I left on the counter.
I checked my phone, still nothing; from either of them, I lifted my phone. Calling my dad, he answered.
"Emma, is everything ok?"
I answered.
"I don't know...I'm not sure"
He replied.
"Isn't today your day off? Shouldn't you be spending time with Hook?"
I sighed, before speaking.
"I was with Aladdin, and Killian isn't here; neither is Henry"
My dad spoke, concern; evident in his tone, as he did.
"What do you mean, gone?"
I sighed again, before answering.
"I got back, from helping Aladdin; I came home, and the garage door was open, there was a trash bag outside and Henry's video game controller was on the back porch"
My dad sighed, before speaking again.
"Ok, they're probably out on the water; there's no cell service out there. I'm sure they're fine, and Henry will call you as soon as they get back to dry land"
I sighed, knowing he was probably right; they were probably out sailing. I thanked him, before ending the call; I set my phone down on the table, lifting my cup to take a sip when my phone buzzed.
It was Henry, I answered.
"Henry..."
"Mom, I'm sorry"
"Where are you? Where's Killian?"
He sighed, before answering.
"We're at the hospital"
Hospital, what the hell happened? I spoke again.
"What happened? Is everything..."
"Everything's fine, I'm fine; Killian's fine too, it's his brother"
Brother? But he's dead, I spoke again.
"Henry, Killian's brother is dead; so do you wanna try again?"
"His little brother, Liam; it's a long story, but we were taken prisoner on a submarine. Liam was there, and he wouldn't let us leave; he wanted to make Killian pay, he wanted to kill him mom. I stopped him, before that could happen; and now he's in the hospital, along with the Captain of the submarine"
I sighed, before speaking.
"I'm on my way"
I got up, placing my cup in the sink; before grabbing my keys, heading out the door. My nerves were still on edge, why didn't Killian tell me; that he had a younger brother?
I made my way to the hospital, I found Henry; hugging him, before speaking.
"What happened?"
He sighed, before answering.
"The Evil Queen showed up, she asked if my new father was a problem; obviously he's not, but she made me doubt that...by suggesting I go into the garage. I left soon after, I discovered that Killian was hiding something; so I headed down to the docks, and Killian came after me. And that's when we were kidnapped, and taken aboard the submarine; Captain Nemo, and Killian's brother were there. They took us somewhere, and well...we were trapped, Killian tried to stop them; and then that's when Liam tried to hurt Killian, but he stopped because of me..."
I tried my best to understand, but I wasn't completely sure; but Killian's kid brother, has a submarine and he kidnapped Killian and my son, for what exactly?
It would also explain, why the garage door was open, and why the trash bag was on the ground; but what about the video game controller? I spoke.
"And your video game controller?"
He shrugged, before answering.
"I have no idea, you should ask Killian about that"
I nodded, as that was exactly what I was going to do; I opened my mouth to speak, when Killian came around the corner. We stood up, that's when Henry spoke.
"How's Liam? Is he ok?"
Killian spoke.
"Aye lad, he is now"
I spoke, confusion; lacing my tone, as I did.
"I feel like, I'm still missing; a huge part of the story here. Your kid brother, has a submarine; and he kidnapped you" They both nodded, as I continued.
"What were you guys even doing, at the docks in the first place?"
Henry spoke.
"Do you want to tell her, or should I?"
Tell me what? What the hell happened? Killian, sighed; before speaking.
"It's alright, I've got this one mate"
Got what? Henry spoke.
"See you at home"
I turned to face Killian, I then spoke.
"Ok, so...what's going on?"
He tore his gaze from mine, as he spoke.
"Everything that happened today, was my fault. Henry, was just trying to help me; right a wrong"
I spoke.
"What kind of wrong?"
He looked at me, regret evident in his gaze; he then spoke.
"When you asked me, to dispose of those shears...I didn't" I stared at him, in total disbelief; as he continued. "I couldn't lose, the one thing; that might help save you. Even if that meant, you hated me; but luckily...your boy, made me see the error of my ways"
I went to speak, only to be stopped; as he continued, speaking once again.
"And, before you say anything; they're at the bottom of the ocean, where they can tell no tales"
I sighed, before speaking.
"It's ok, I get it" He looked at me, slightly confused; as he spoke. "You do?" I nodded, as I continued. "I would have done, the exact same thing"
He pulled me into a hug, as I tried to understand what just happened; I couldn't be mad at him, for wanting to save me.
He's lost too much, we both have; we stayed like that for a while, before I pulled away. I then spoke.
"So you've got a little brother?"
He nodded, before speaking.
"Aye, Liam...our father, named him after my brother"
I sensed, there was more to that story; but I didn't want to push him, so I hugged him again. Silently telling him, that he could tell me; on his own time.
He spoke again.
"I am sorry, Swan; I should have told you the truth"
I sighed, before speaking.
"It's ok, I understand why you did it"
He smiled, before leading me out of the hospital; and out to where my car was, we got inside. He kissed me, before I started the car; I smiled into it, before pulling away.
We made the short ride home, in a comfortable silence...
