Ch37 - Tougher Than The Rest Pt3

I followed his gaze, my eyes widened; the chisel, it was broken. Now how are Regina and I supposed to get home?...

Wish August crouched down, picking up the now broken chisel; he spoke.

"Oh no"

I kept my gaze on the chisel, sighing as I did; Wish Hook, definitely wasn't as agile as my Killian. That reminded me, I need to get Killian off the rum and onto water.

I'm not looking forward to that conversation, but it will be for the best; but for now, I need to find another way home, and I need to find Regina.

My gaze drifted to Wish August, who was still staring at the chisel; I kept my gaze on him, as I spoke.

"Can you fix it?"

He answered.

"I cannot"

I spoke again, while gesturing to his tool box.

"Well you have, a whole other chest of tools; maybe there's something else"

He sounded mildly frustrated, as he spoke again.

"No, I need magic; to carve the tree!" With that, he threw the chisel to the ground; he continued. "I'm not my father, I'm not...good enough"

I sighed, but before I could say anything; he was walking past me, he turned. He then spoke again.

"I'm sorry, you put your faith in me Emma. I hope you never make, that mistake again"

He stared at me, before leaving; when he was gone, I sighed. Why did I have to blast Wish Hook, with magic? If I hadn't, Regina and I would have a way home.

I grabbed the chisel, before using my magic to fix it; I then figured I could use it. I mean, how hard could it be? I walked back to the tree, grabbing the small hammer, that was on the ground.

I held the chisel in one hand, the hammer in the other; I struck the chisel, and nothing...I sighed, before trying again; still nothing...I threw them both back into the tool box.

As I did, I noticed a small wooden box; I lifted it out, I looked at the tag. My eyes widened, as I read it. Emma. I untied the string, opening the box as I did; inside was a wooden swan, I studied it.

I needed to know, what it meant; so I went back to the one person, that could tell me. I made my way back into the small village, finding Wish August; he was in the workshop, I approached him.

I opened the box, holding the wooden swan out; showing him, as I spoke.

"What is this? It had my name on it"

He shrugged, as he answered.

"For the Princess, who has everything; happy birthday"

He's hiding something, I spoke again.

"Seriously, why this?"

He spoke.

"I don't know, I guess I've always liked swans. Reminds me, of a story my father used to tell me; when I was dreaming of becoming real"

I knew exactly which story, he was talking about; I spoke again.

"Let me guess, the ugly duckling?"

He smiled, as he answered.

"Huh, you know it"

I nodded, while speaking.

"Yeah, you could say that"

Wish August continued.

"The Duck, who believed so deeply; he would become a swan, he actually became one. My father always said, believe hard enough in something; and you can change your fate"

I looked at him, before speaking.

"What did you say?"

He answered.

"You can change...your fate"

I knew I'd heard that before, it immediately reminded me of when I was a kid; and August found me, and said those exact words to me. I spoke again.

"It was you"

He sounded confused, as he answered.

"What was me?"

I spoke.

"When I was a kid, in my world; you...gave me some advice, and it changed my life"

He smiled again, before speaking.

"You became the swan?"

I nodded, as I spoke.

"Yeah I did"

He was still smiling, as he continued to look at me; I then looked at the sword, before handing him the chisel. I spoke.

"You can do this"He looked at the chisel and then at me, as I continued. "If you believe, you're a puppeteer; you will be a puppeteer. But if you believe, you're a master carver, and as good as your father ever was...then your fate changes"

He took it from me, smiling as he did; he then held the door open for me, I waited for him to join me, as we made our way back to the enchanted grove. He then placed the chisel against the tree, before glancing at me.

I nodded, as he moved to hit it with the hammer; it worked, as the tree began to glow with magic. He smiled, as he looked at me; he spoke.

"Looks like the Swan, is going home"

I nodded, as he got to work; I watched as he carved into the tree, before he was able to remove a piece large enough to make the wardrobe.

I spoke.

"Do you need help?"

He nodded, before stepping back; I then moved, while facing the tree. I lifted my hands, before using my magic; I watched as the piece he removed, floated.

I began to move it, in the direction of the workshop; Wish August thanked me, as I placed it back onto the ground. He then got to work, on making the wardrobe; I watched on in silence, as he carved away more wood.

He carved the doors, with piece; it started to look more like a wardrobe, than just a piece of wood. He stood up, and I gasped; as it resembled, the one that was created to send me to the real world.

I spoke.

"You did it, I knew that you could"

He turned, as he smiled at me; he then spoke.

"Thank you Emma, for believing in me"

I answered.

"I'm just repaying the favor. Your father would be proud"

He set his tools down, before moving to stand in front of the wardrobe again; he spoke.

"Well, it's a little...rough around the edges, but I think it'll do"

I smiled, silently thanking him; I turned, when I heard the door open. It was Regina, I spoke.

"Regina, where did you go?"

She stuttered.

"Uh..."

That's when someone else appeared, I gasped softly; when I realised it was Robin, well Wish Robin. I answered.

"Oh..."

She spoke again.

"I'm sorry I ran off, but we have to get out of here. They're gonna be looking for us, Sheriffs and Knights and maybe Rumple and..." she paused, when she noticed the wardrobe; she continued. "Is that it?"

Wish August answered.

"This is it"

Wish Robin spoke.

"That's how you're getting back? A tree?"

Wish August spoke again.

"A magic tree"

Wish Robin spoke again.

"Oh well forgive me"

I spoke.

"Regina, we do have to go"

She answered.

"Can you just give me a minute?"

I nodded, as she stepped off to the side; I tried not to listen, as she said goodbye to him again. I could hear sadness in her tone, as she spoke.

"Um...I'm so sorry I dragged you into this"

He answered.

"I like an adventure. Here..." I heard him open his satchel, before he handed her something. He continued. "I want you to have this...so a piece of Robin is with you, always"

She sighed, before speaking.

"Where did you get this?"

He answered.

"It's my lucky feather, from a very lucky arrow"

Regina spoke.

"When Robin...My Robin, died; there was a feather...that got lost on its way to me...from him. But despite everything, I...chose to believe in hope...that he was in a good place...that's why I think, somehow...he lives on in you"

My heart clenched, and then I realised something; why doesn't she bring him back to Storybrooke? She would be happy again, if she did.

I took a breath, before I spoke.

"Regina, why don't you bring him?"

She looked at me, confusion etched into her features; she then spoke.

"He's not real, Emma; you said it yourself, this place was created by a wish. How could a wish, become real?"

I spoke, while trying to explain; that it could.

"No, maybe it can; the feather, Robin's soul, had to go somewhere. Maybe that's why, he hasn't aged; why he's different. If you believe any part of him, is in there; why walk away?"

She sighed, as she answered.

"Because Emma, it's me. And I'm afraid of tempting fate"

Tempting fate? She had to do this, she needed to do this; I spoke again.

"No. We make our own fate, I did; and now it's your turn"

She nodded, while sniffling; she then sighed, she turned to face him.

She spoke.

"So..."

He answered, as he moved closer.

"I'm in"

She scoffed, and I smiled softly; as she answered.

"You are?"

He nodded, as she continued.

"It might not work"

He spoke.

"Then again...it might"

Her tone one of scepticism, as she spoke again.

"You'd take the risk?"

He looked at her, before answering.

"Well I don't know, if you caught this; but, uh...things are looking pretty bleak for me here. And you know, why not get to know the woman one version of me; was willing to die for?"

I turned, facing Wish August; as he moved, to open the wardrobe. He spoke.

"Maybe, you should leave this here"

I answered.

"No. Can't let fate, dictate my actions anymore"

I walked through the wardrobe; my eyes adjusting to the darkness in front of me, I looked around. I was home, I think; I heard a blast, I turned around.

I spoke.

"Regina?" She appeared, as I continued. "Are you ok? Where's Robin?"

She looked back, before answering.

"I don't know, we went in together"

It didn't work, he didn't come back with us; I spoke again.

"I'm so sorry"

She sighed, and I could sense that her heart; was breaking all over again, she spoke.

"Can I...Can I, have a moment alone; please?"

I nodded, before placing my hand on her shoulder; I walked away, leaving her standing there. I really thought it would work, I really thought she had a chance to start over again.

Clearly, I was wrong...
