Ch44 - Mother, Son Bonding (Pt2) - 4
Henry smiled at me, while nodding...
We placed our order, before I spoke.
"So kid, did you have fun today?"
He nodded, before answering.
"Yeah mom, it was great; we should do it again sometime, maybe Killian can come too"
I smiled, before speaking.
"Oh yeah, we'll definitely do it again; and I'm sure he'd love to"
Henry grinned, as we fell into a comfortable silence; the sounds of the diner, filling the air. I heard movement, as I looked up; it was our waitress, I smiled, in thanks as she placed the plates onto the table.
Henry smiled, as she then placed the cocoa down; we thanked her, as she smiled before leaving us to enjoy our food. I watched Henry, as he took a sip; his eyes closing, as he sighed softly.
He lifted his cup, away from his face; and I laughed slightly, as he had some cinnamon and whipped cream on his upper lip. I tried to contain my laughter, as he tried licking it off; before giving up, and lifting a napkin.
I glanced at my hot cocoa, and then at the slice of pie; as I tried to decide, which one to have first. The cocoa looked amazing, and it was the perfect cinnamon to cream ratio; and the apple pie, looked amazing too, I sighed.
Decisions, decisions...
I lifted my cocoa, before placing it back down on the table; Henry looked at me, before speaking.
"What's wrong mom?"
I smiled, before answering.
"Oh nothing, it's just; they both look good, so I'm just trying to decide which one to go for first"
He laughed, before answering.
"You should definitely drink the cocoa first, it's amazing"
I laughed, before nodding; I then took a sip, before allowing the hot liquid to coat my throat. That was definitely the right decision, I heard Henry laugh; I looked at him, before he spoke.
"You've got a little something, on your face mom"
I grinned, before lifting a napkin; to wipe my mouth, when I was sure I got it all, I spoke.
"Did I get it?"
He nodded, as he took another sip of his; before switching to his apple pie, he mumbled something. I smiled, before trying to sound like a mom.
"Don't talk, with your mouth full; kid"
He smiled, before swallowing; he then repeated himself.
"Sorry, I was trying to say; its delicious"
I smiled, before speaking; keeping my tone light.
"Is it better than cocoa?"
He grinned, when he caught on; he then answered. "I don't know...but it's a close second" I smiled, as I took a bite of my own slice.
He was right, nothing could ever beat cocoa with cinnamon; but the pie was definitely a contender. We sat in a comfortable silence again, as we finished our food.
I stood up, before making my way to the counter to pay; Granny, was standing behind the counter. I smiled, as she greeted me; she spoke.
"How was everything?"
I answered.
"Amazing, as always"
She smiled, as she thanked me; before I headed back to the booth, where Henry was still sitting. I sat down in front of him again, before speaking.
"So kid, what do you want to do now?"
He shrugged, before answering.
"I don't know"
I nodded, before trying to think of something; what else could we do? I had a couple of ideas, but I wasn't sure; I spoke.
"Well, we could go to the park? Or we could do a mother, son walk through the forest?"
He answered.
"The mother, son forest walk sounds cool; let's do that"
I nodded, before standing up; I waited as Henry stood up, joining me. We made our way outside, before heading back to the car; we then headed towards the edge of town, when we got there, we got out.
I turned to face Henry, before speaking.
"You ready?"
He nodded, as we headed into the forest; we walked side by side, the leaves crunching under our feet, as we continued walking deeper into the forest. I glance up at the sky, before lifting my phone out of my pocket; it was a little after five thirty, but it was still light.
We still had a half hour of daylight, we may as well make the best of it; I spotted a really tall tree, and I grinned. Maybe we could race towards it, I smiled; before speaking.
"Ok kid, I've a challenge for you; the first person, to reach that tree, can pick the movie tonight"
He grinned, before answering.
"You're on"
We took off, in a sprint; I heard Henry laugh, as he overtook me.
He spoke, humour evident in his tone; as he did.
"I guess I'm picking the movie tonight mom, I hope you like Pirates Of The Caribbean; and I have a feeling, Killian is going to have a lot of questions"
I smiled, before falling back; I watched as Henry reached the tree, before laughing. I spoke.
"You might be right there, kid; so it's settled, movie night with my specialty"
My mouth watering, as I thought about popcorn with milk duds mixed through it; so they get all melty, I looked at Henry. He grinned, before walking back to where I was standing; I spoke.
"You wanna head back, and get everything set up?"
He nodded, as we made our way back to the car; climbing into it, before taking the long way home. When we got there, we walked inside; I wondered if Killian was home?
I spoke.
"Killian?"
I looked at Henry, he shrugged; as he spoke.
"Maybe he's still out?"
I nodded, before answering.
"Maybe. So why don't we get everything ready, and then when he comes home, we can start the movie?"
Henry nodded, before heading into the living room; I headed into the kitchen, before pulling out two bowls. I moved toward the cabinets, before finding the popcorn; and then reaching for the milk duds, opening them and popping one into my mouth.
I then got to work, on heating the popcorn; as I placed it into the microwave. I glanced at the clock ok the wall, before checking on the popcorn. I walked into the living room, before speaking.
"Is everything ready?"
Henry answered.
"Yeah, it's all set up; all we have to do is press play, when Killian gets home"
I smiled, before heading back into the kitchen; the popcorn was ready, so all that was left to do was mix in the milk duds. I glanced at the clock again, before setting the milk duds down; I peered out the window.
I smiled, when I noticed that Killian was home; so why wasn't he coming in?
I sighed, before heading out; jogging down the steps, speaking as I did.
"Hey, there you are" I walked towards him, before continuing. "We just got back, I missed you" I came to a stop in front of him.
I moved closer, before speaking again.
"I'm making my specialty, microwave popcorn; with milk duds mixed in, to get all melty"
He kept his gaze down, before looking at me briefly; as he spoke.
"Sounds wonderful"
I laughed, before smiling; my gaze still on his, as he spoke.
"Umm...I'll be in, in just a minute"
I looked at him, before trying to read him; I wasn't sure, what was going on, but I knew he would tell me in his own time. I spoke.
"Ok"
I leaned up, before kissing him; before walking back inside, I walked into the kitchen. The popcorn was still warm, so I poured the milk duds into the bowl; before mixing the two together.
I heard the door open, I smiled; before walking out of the kitchen, and into the hallway. Henry spoke, as he joined us.
"Hey Killian...Mom, are you ready?"
I smiled, as I spoke.
"Yeah, we're right behind you"
Killian tilted his head in confusion, before speaking.
"So, what are we watching tonight?"
I grinned, before answering.
"A movie called, Pirates Of The Caribbean"
He looked at me, before speaking.
"There's a movie about pirates?...How am I, only hearing about this?"
I grinned again, before speaking.
"Well now you know, so come on; I think you'll enjoy it"
He smiled, as he allowed me to lead him into the living room; and onto the couch, before Henry pressed play...
