Ch46 - The Ring
Although, a computer operating system; was probably the last thing, she worried about, when she was thinking about casting the dark curse that created Storybrooke in the first place...
Slow operating system aside, being the sheriff; sometimes has its perks, but it also has its challenges. I got to work, as I rearranged some of the files on the computer.
If someone had told me, that I'd have to deal with fairy tale characters; on a daily basis, I would have laughed. I also would have laughed, if I had been told; that one day, I would live with Captain Hook. Speaking of, he should be done with Archie.
I lifted my phone, off the desk. Smiling, as I called him; it rang a couple of times, before going to voicemail. That's strange, usually; he answers right away, I guess he's still with Archie, or maybe he's with my dad.
I checked the clock on the wall, it was a little after eleven; I called my dad.
I sighed when he answered.
"Hey dad"
He spoke.
"Hey, is everything ok?"
I answered.
"Yeah, everything's fine; have you seen Killian today?"
He replied.
"No, I haven't; why, what's wrong?"
I sighed, before speaking.
"Nothing, it's just he was gone, before I woke up this morning; he left a note, that mentioned he had a session with Archie"
My dad sighed, before answering.
"Maybe he's still with him? I guess, they've a lot to cover"
I laughed softly, at my dad's reassuring tone; before speaking.
"Yeah, you're probably right"
He laughed, before answering.
"Emma, you know I'm right; dads are always right"
I laughed, before I spoke.
"Yeah ok, dad...thanks, but if you see Killian will you..."
He answered.
"I'll get him to call you, don't worry; I'll see you later"
The call ended, and I got back to scrolling through files on the computer; rearranging them one by one, as I tried to bring some kind of order, to all the chaos.
Once that was done, I switched the computer off; moving slightly, to tidy my desk. Not that it was messy, I just wanted to do a quick clear up; when it was done, I stood up.
I grabbed my phone, and my jacket; before heading out, locking the door behind me. I climbed back into my car, and headed home; parking on the curb, when I got there.
I made my way up the steps, before heading inside; grabbing the laundry basket, at the bottom of the stairs. I went into Henry's room first, before gathering his clothes off the bed; I closed his door over, before heading to mine and Killian's room.
I lifted the clothes off the floor, and off the bed; before heading into the bathroom, to gather the towels. I then headed back into the bedroom, to make the bed.
I sighed, as I tried my best to replicate, how Killian makes it; I took a step back, admiring my work, before heading back downstairs. I made my way into the laundry room; before loading the washing machine.
That only leaves the couch, and the coffee table; and the vacuuming and dusting. I located the vacuum cleaner, before finding the duster.
I dusted everything, before vacuuming; and once that was finished, I made my way into the living room I made quick work, on rearranging the couch cushions; before clearing the coffee table, I sighed before taking a step back.
Cleaning done, laundry in the process of being done; all that I needed to do now, was make coffee and relax. I headed into the kitchen, before finding a cup, as I made a start on the coffee.
I sighed, as I sat down at the table; coffee in hand, my stomach grumbled, as I took a sip. I guess I needed to eat something; my gaze drifted towards the cabinets, as I silently willed them to open of their own accord.
When that didn't work, I stood up; before making my way towards them, as I lifted the ingredients to make a grilled cheese. It wasn't Granny's but, I didn't feel like heading back into town; so I would just have to improvise and make my own.
When it was ready, I cut it in half; before sitting back down at the table, the cheese melting in my mouth, as I took a bite. Once I was finished, I cleared up; before heading to the sink, to wash up.
Now I need to check on the laundry, I headed back into the laundry room; the washer, was finished. I opened it, taking everything out; before loading the dryer, and switching it on.
I made my way back, into the hallway; as I glanced at the windows, did they need cleaned? Should I clean them? I sighed, before gathering the stuff I would need; I have time, before the dryers finished.
I made a start in the living room, taking my time; as I cleaned each panel, making sure there were no streaks. I repeated the action, in the kitchen; before heading upstairs, to do the same.
And as I predicted, the dryer was done; I opened it, before waiting a few seconds, I then lifted everything out. Folding everything, as I loaded the laundry basket; before heading upstairs again.
I placed Henry's clothes in his drawers, before heading into mine and Killian's room again; I opened the drawer, moving the clothes aside. My eyes widened, when I spotted a small velvet box; was that, what I think it is?
I lifted it out, taking a breath; before opening it, a small gasp escaped my lips...it was a ring.
My hand shook, as I lifted it out of the box; before switching the bedside lamp on, I watched as the light glinted off the diamonds, is this why he's been so nervous?
Is he afraid that I'm going to say no? I sat there, staring at it; jumping slightly when I heard Killian, as he called my name.
"Emma...are you home?"
I stood up, the ring; still in my hand, as I made my way downstairs...
