There is no pain so great as the memory of joy in present grief. Tears are the silent language of grief. Happiness is beneficial for the body, but it is grief that develops the powers of the mind. There is no grief like the grief that does not speak.

Sometimes when it comes to the human spirit, mind or body, sometimes being there for one another can make the difference. No one should be left out in the dark or the cold… alone.

Katawa Shoujo- Lullaby of Open Eyes

A light breeze seemed to brush its way through the branches, someone's feet were coming through the snow as the branches rattle overhead. Flakes of snow fell to the ground while she continued along in the snow. She idly twirled her long dark hair with her finger while looking at the time.

"Four in the afternoon." She softly told herself. "I don't know if he was going to be out there." She began. She looked out to see the unmistakable patch of soft blonde hair. She slowly stepped forward almost if she recognized him, the snow falling between them as she stepped forward a bit more. "Le… Lenny, are you there?" She daintily asked. She stepped forward a bit more as the snowfall steadily thickened. The sky was nothing more than a stagnant white as if the snowflakes attempted to bring life. "Hirahi?" She asked again. Lenny lifted his face up to see who it was. His blue eyes were glassy with tears. He looked back down to himself as if he was ashamed of something.

"Iwanako, you came here but what for?" Lenny asked. He seemed to be rather puzzled. He didn't know what else to respond with. Lenny felt uncomfortable as his heart started to steadily go faster.

"Lenny, I noticed how down you were and I decided to invite you out here to see how I can make you feel better." Iwanako began. She seemed to care for him as a friend but Lenny knew he needed to brush his emotions off to the side for just a moment.

"Why did you invite me out here?" Lenny asked. He felt his heart steadily pick up again, it was gathering speed as the machines to keep it pumping were steadily getting faster.

"It was nice that you came out here to see me." Iwanako began. "I'm glad you received my note." Iwanako spoke to Lenny but the latter wasn't feeling any form of happiness. Lenny turned away as he looked down away from her.

"Yes I wanted to see you after what had happened." Lenny began. He tried to think about what happened and how his family situation was falling apart. "My life is in shambles, my father had died just recently and my mother can't take the grief, she has turned to drugs to cope with the pain." Lenny described it. Iwanako stepped forward to try to provide some comfort for her friend. She gently placed a hand on his shoulder and began to speak.

"I know you've had it rough for the past few days and by the looks of it, you're only getting worse as time goes on." Iwanako explained to Lenny that losing someone was going to be rough and it was going to last for a while. She continued to speak. "You've already blacked out three times in the week and the nurse is trying to figure out what is wrong. Based on your medical records, they are just as confused as I am." Iwanako tried her best to explain. Lenny turned and continued to look down all except for the beating in his chest which was growing louder and faster.

"I don't know how long I could keep dragging my feet onward for." Lenny began. He placed a hand on his chest almost as if he was trying to contain his heart from exploding out of his chest. His voice was starting to grow raspy almost if he was sick.

"Me either but I can't deal with your condition getting worse. I'll bring this up and we can try getting you some therapy." Iwanako explained. She rubbed her hand through his hair trying to calm him down. Lenny didn't know if he wanted to open this up with another person.

"I don't know if I am willing to give it a shot. But…" Lenny paused as he tried to think. He felt something up in his throat thinking something was stuck and it was starting to strangle him. "...I'm willing to take anything at this point if it means trying to recover over this loss." Iwanako began to notice the raspiness with his voice, almost as if it sounded dry and hoarse in the snow. She was starting to show some concern for her friend.

"Are you okay? Lenny, you don't sound too good." Iwanako asked as if something was going on with her friend. Lenny tried to think but not a single thought came up into his head. He tried to speak but nothing came out even if he tried to force a couple of words from his mouth.

"I'm… fine…" Lenny explained. To the contrary, he wasn't, his hands were starting to shake as his face was starting to grow pale as sweat began to drip down his face.. Iwanako however didn't realize this.

"I hope so as I don't want someone to expose their weakness with me. I've already seen my fair share of moments and I don't want to think anything traumatic happened to anyone. You're a good friend Lenny and I don't want someone to give up in the most troubling of times." Iwanako tried her best to speak to Lenny to give him some courage to keep trying. Lenny tried his best to speak as he didn't want to show Iwanako that he didn't need help.

"I'm not… weak…" Lenny's strained voice tried to speak as he was trying to force a few more words from his mouth. He continued to feel his heart go faster and faster as the seconds drew on. "I'm willing to keep going if you are." Lenny needed a break as if his face was almost as white as the snow around him. Iwanako was worried about her friend's condition as he tried his best to massage his throat, it seemed like it was coming near his voice box. Lenny tried his best to reach up to massage his throat but it sent spikes of blinding pain into his arms. His arms dropped as he was trying his best to keep himself standing.

"I am but..." Iwanako wanted to say to Lenny that he wasn't feeling well and he needed help immediately.

"What?" Lenny tried his best to speak to Iwanako. That was when the knockout punch had been dealt.

Katawa Shoujo- Cold Iron

Lenny's vocal cords had been snapped into pieces as if someone pulled wires out of the electrical circuit. His voice finally faded away as his eyes shot open in terror. Iwanako looked on to see that her friend was now truly in trouble. The dark blue eyes grew dull as if he was dragged underwater and his body was gasping for air only for him to sink further down, drowning in the abyss. Finally he felt his eyes close as the beating in his heart slowed and then quickly came to a stop, his body must've suffered an electrical malfunction as if a black out engulfed his body. Finally, Lenny fell onto his knees before he fell forward and into the snow.

"Lenny!" Iwanako screamed in terror. She raced over to see Lenny lay in the snow. "Lenny Hirahi speak to me! Oh no!" Iwanako cried out for help. All Lenny could remember is his surroundings turning to black as the last thing he could hear was Iwanako calling for help. Almost if the world had faded away from him.

Katawa Shoujo- Damage

Beep… Beep… Beep… it was the sound of a medical EKG, it was tracking the heart rate of Lenny, Iwanako was able to rescue him in time. It was accompanied by another noise, the dripping of an Iv bag filled with Plasma, it was usually enough to stop someone's heart from running away along with the ticking of the clock, the clock's seconds went by as the seconds would turn into weeks. Weeks of idling around for what would seem to be an eternity. Everything had changed for good and there was no way neither one of them could change it.

Katawa Shoujo- Caged heart

It had been three months since Lenny had his heart attack. Sometimes he could count how many times he could get up and try to walk out unsupervised. Three months seemed to be a long time especially when you would miss out on winter and spring activities. He was left alone when it came to his condition regarding what was happening, alone with his thoughts.

Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy, an unusual name for a heart attack. It is where the muscles rapidly weaken due to stress. In fact this could be emotional. The doctors said they had discovered his heart was beating way too fast before it had shut down, the subject of losing someone dear to you is labeled as a cause for the heart attack. The doctors would have predicted that Lenny would recover fast but even then his heart had become weak and wasn't beating properly. Surgery was the only way they could correct it to make sure it was beating normally but even then, there was the possibility that it could happen again. However even with this condition there came another nasty and rare side effect Arrhythmia, a condition of irregular heart beats that can cause the heart to beat too fast or too slow. It was one that was often tacked onto the condition.

Lenny's mother was hit by the news the hardest, she had turned to her drugs more than ever as if she was going to lose her son, she had also been more withdrawn and absent in his life, she was the first to stop showing up as she couldn't bear to come and visit. Lenny felt like he had been abandoned. It was all still fresh in her mind, she was even willing to sell the house to see if there was a cure for the arrhythmia, but nothing came from it, because of what happened, Lenny had to stay in the hospital longer than he needed to as he needed to recuperate from the treatments, these treatments would go on and last for weeks. When Lenny had been first admitted, he felt like he was missed, for the first week or so, the room was filled with get well gifts but even then the gifts quickly dwindled down to nothing as the classmates didn't want to turn it into a sympathy project. Even the visitors dwindled down to nothing. Iwanako was eventually the last to stop visiting, she had stopped visiting after six weeks. Lenny tried his best to get as much out of her as he could. Iwanako was more withdrawn than his own mother at times. She didn't want him to be the next Hisao Nakai with the heart condition and Lenny wondered, who was he? He tried his best to think about it but nothing came of it. Eventually he had no outside company as he was truly left alone.

The hospital? It's not really a place Lenny would like to live in. The doctors and nurses feel so impersonal and faceless. Lenny had to guess it's because they are in a hurry and they have a million other patients waiting for them, but it makes him feel uncomfortable and scared. For the first month or so, Lenny asked the head cardiologist every time he saw him for a rough estimate of when he would be able to leave. He never answered anything in a straightforward way, but told him to wait and see if the treatment and surgeries worked. So, Lenny idly observed the scar that those surgeries had left on his chest slowly change its appearance over time, thinking of it as some kind of an omen. Lenny would still ask the head cardiologist about leaving, but his expectations are low enough now that he wasn't not disappointed any more when he didn't get a reply. The way he shuffles around the answer shows that there is at least some hope.

Lenny never seemed to really care for television. He didn't find it interesting to stare at a screen all day long and felt like he had nothing to do. He tried his best to find some way to keep himself entertained. Eventually he seemed to snag two books from the hospital's library that he could read to keep himself from getting bored. Ender's game: A story of Andrew "Ender" Wiggen, a tactical genius who goes off to military school where they have to defeat aliens from another planet. Sounds interesting if Lenny could read through the first few pages of the book. Lenny was always falling asleep as he didn't find the book to be boring but he was too tired to stare at the page for very long. That was what Lenny's life was like. The days became increasingly harder to distinguish from each other, differing only by the book he was attempting reading and the weather outside. It felt like time blurred into some kind of gooey mess Lenny felt like he was trapped inside, instead of moving within. A week could go by without him really noticing it. Sometimes, Lenny had to pause in realization that he didn't know what day of the week it was. But other times, all the things that surrounded me would painfully crash into his consciousness, through the barrier of nonchalance he was forced to set up for himself. The pages of my book would start to feel sharp and burning hot and the heaviness in his chest would become so hard to bear that he had to put the book aside and just lay down for a while, looking at the ceiling as if he was going to cry. That often happened and drove his heart crazy. Lenny had to be sedated to prevent another incident from occurring.

After resting there for thirteen or so weeks, the doctor came in to see how Lenny was doing, he tried to give him a smile. He seems excited, but not very. It's like he is trying to make an effort to be happy on Lenny's behalf. His nurse was also here. It's been a few days since he had last seen her. Both of them are even sort of dressed up. Is this supposed to be some kind of special occasion? It's not a party. There is this ritual the head cardiologist has. He takes his time, sorting his papers, then setting them aside as if to make a point of the pointlessness of what he just did. There he casually sits down on the edge of the bed next to him. He looks at Lenny in the eyes for a moment.

"Hello Lenny, how are you doing?" The doctor would ask. Lenny was trying his best to figure out what was going on. He didn't answer his question at first before he began to speak.

"G… Good." That was the only word that was able to come out of Lenny's mouth. The doctor smiled before he began to speak again. He seemed to have a chart in his hands which seemed to contain all of Lenny's info.

"I believe that you can go home; your heart is stronger now, and with some precautions, you should be fine. We have all your medication sorted out. I'll give you the prescription to read over." The doctor explained to Lenny as he hung the chart up he had to fish through the papers to see where Lenny's medication was going to be.

Name: Lenny Hirahi

Age: 18

DOB: 5/16

Gender: Male

Height: 5'5

Weight: 52 Kg (114 lbs)

Blood type: B

Hair color: Blonde

Eye color: Blue

Diagnosis: Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy & Arrhythmia

Other: Pulse/Heart Monitor (Color: Red) (Code Number: 8926)

Lenny had lost a couple of pounds ever since he had been first admitted but even then he felt like a shadow of his former self. Stuck with a heart condition that had derailed everything in his life. He didn't know how he was going to react.

"I'm glad you're doing okay, I thought your heart condition would clear up in a few weeks but the arrhythmia had only aggravated it and made it nearly fatal. We had to do a couple surgeries to make sure your heart was beating normally." The doctor explained to Lenny about what he went through in the thirteen or so weeks when he first arrived.

"That was… the second surgery you had to take something out of me?" Lenny asked the doctor.

"Your temporary pacemaker. I understand." The doctor explained while he was trying to fish out the medicine paper. "The loss of your father brought on the sudden attack, and we nearly lost you from it. I'm glad to hear that you're beginning to get over it. You seem to get your Arrhythmia worse than my other patients as you can't handle physical or emotional stress as easily, you perform poorly under pressure."

"I see." Lenny sighed as he looked away. The doctor seemingly having been fed up with trying to find Lenny's paperwork, he went over to the whiteboard and began to erase it all away. The doctor began to speak again.

"Me and my colleagues were thinking about sending you to another school seeing that you missed out on a lot of it. One that suits your needs better. We've chatted with representatives from various schools for the past several days to see what would work best for you, the requirement is to be stress free, so we don't encounter another incident like this one and we want you to make friends. Even your classes and workload like homework and tests were going to be very limited as we just want you to have friends so we don't have to hospitalize you again Lenny and you could be treated at the school." The doctor did his best to explain as he wrote down on the whiteboard. Lenny looked around to sense something was flashing on his wrist "We told one of the nurses about your heart monitor on your wrist. It takes a reading of your heart beat and pulse which will determine how fast your heart is reading, if its flashing slowly it will show that it is normal and you are normal, it will flash evenly if you are working out in an even however if it is flashing fast, like very fast a heart attack is occuring. I want you to be more careful with yourself." Lenny was taking it all in while looking at the monitor on his wrist. It was red, it had a shield logo he wasn't familiar with and the number of said monitor was 8926, what did that number mean? He felt released as if the monitor read that his heart was beating steadily.

So which school am I transferring to?" Lenny asked the doctor while he continued to write the message on the white board.

"Based on the information we've gathered and the representatives that we met, it would be best to have you transferred to Yamaku Academy." The doctor began. "It's a school for the physically disabled and the best candidate for a person such as yourself. However, what is required of you is to keep a diary of your daily activities and the heart monitor has to stay on your wrist at all times, even in the shower as it's waterproof. It is a way to record your heart and determine the severity of the next attack. Another thing we agreed on is that your education load is reduced significantly so you could have more time to make friends and enjoy yourself." Lenny felt shocked, leaving his old school? Why, though? Wasn't he happier with the school he was in previously. He was more or less confused.

"I don't know if I'm keen on making new friends, what about the ones that I had?" Lenny asked why he needed a whole new set of friends, what was wrong with the friends he used to have. The doctor looked at him as he needed to set everything straight with Lenny. Maybe even try to bribe him to make more friends.

"We told your friends that you were dead but that was moreover an excuse, so you didn't have to think about them as much. Your new friends will be the light to guide you going forward from this point onward. A new beginning is going to begin for you, mister Hirahi." The doctor finished writing on the whiteboard and got away from him. It said: We hope you enjoyed your stay; you will be discharged tomorrow morning. Lenny felt nervous, wasn't this betrayal of his old friends. He wanted to see what was going on regarding the news.

"Leaving? Already? I'm not even prepared for school if I'm leaving tomorrow?" Lenny told his doctor that he had no way to get himself ready if he was going out the door.

"Don't worry Lenny, we made the decision a couple days in advance, we got you prepared with a few books and a couple of pens. I hope you like your visit here as you will be placed into a whole new world tomorrow." Lenny froze, he didn't know what to expect in a land so alien to him. Was he going to be like Ender Wiggen when he first stepped onto the enemy planet when he had ravaged in a genocide of insects?

"Will I have to take any medication for my heart to keep it steady?" Lenny asked if there were going to be any pills he would need to take if he was to keep his heart in check.

"We're going to prescribe you some Beta Blockers to keep your blood pressure down while you settle into the school." The doctor replied. Lenny nodded while a nurse came in with a school bag with a few books and a couple of pens. There were other features inside like a water container for drinking and a small pouch for his doctor finally found the medicine paper after what seemed to be forever fishing for the perfect fish. He handed it over for Lenny to read. It was basic, he needed to take four pills a day, two in the morning and two at night before he went to bed.

"Well… thanks." Lenny replied. He rested his head on the pillow while trying to figure out what this new school was. He felt excited yet nervous, excited as he was going back to learn but nervous as he didn't know how these people would react to him.

"No problem, the school you're in is only a few minutes away from here so you don't have to go far. If there's anything wrong, just call emergency services and we'll get you here as fast as we can." The doctor told Lenny that he had nothing to worry about for the time being. Lenny sighed happily before he began speaking again.

"What about the two books I've been reading? What will happen to them?" Lenny asked. He was worried about giving them back to the hospital and therefore he would have nothing to read. If he was going to get back to school, he needed to begin reading more. The nurse sensed that Lenny was stuck once again and decided to speak to him.

"You can keep them; they were a personal gift from the doctor when you told him you liked science fiction stories. He was only able to get the first two books." The nurse told Lenny about the books he was going to keep. Lenny was wondering if he was going to get more books to complete the collection.

"I'm barely through the first one so when I get the chance, I'll start reading again." Lenny told the nurse while he packed his bags. He was going to make a promise to move forward when it came to education and try his best to make up the ground he had been left behind. The doctor was busy unhooking Lenny from the medical machines that helped stabilize him, but the heart monitor was going to stay with him at all times.

"I wish you luck for the road ahead. Make it your best that you have ever walked down on." The doctor told Lenny when he finished unhooking the machines from him.

"Looks like I will be sleeping easy tonight?" Lenny asked as if he was finally free from the machines that had restrained him to his hospital bed.

"Certainly, but you need to get ready to walk tomorrow morning as you'll be getting up early for school." The doctor told Lenny while he tucked him in. This doctor was like a second father to Lenny, and he had got to know him for the three months he was stuck in his ward. Lenny rested his head on the pillow while the doctors kept his stuff on a coat hanger, they were going to check on him tomorrow morning. Leaving someone like him behind was going to be a step forward for him, a very big step forward.

Lenny had been woken up at six in the morning, it was a thursday and the sun was just coming up. It seemed that someone wanted to visit him. It was the nurse who was giving him breakfast and his medication. Everything was together and all that was needed was to get up and begin walking again. For Lenny this was a blank slate he was handed and he was going to try his best to fill it. The nurse placed the small tablets for Lenny to take.

"Your propranolol blockers, you will be taking twenty-five milligram tablets twice a day. This will help ease you through your time at Yamaku High School. We will be in contact with your nurse as you will be checking in with him to see if your heart is holding out." The nurse instructed Lenny to be taking his medicine to help him out. Lenny popped the tablet into his mouth while washing it down with the juice that remained. The nurse placed the rest of the tablets into a capsule and into his bag. He was going to have them with him when he gets transferred. Lenny got up but his legs felt wobbly as he hadn't walked in months. He stumbled around, looking for his bag he was going to use to take with him to school. He then grabbed it while the doctor was keeping him steadyLenny placed the bag around his arms while he was getting his bearings with his feet. Lenny nearly fell over as he wasn't used to walking, his legs had no use in them and getting going was going to take a few. After a couple or so minutes, Lenny found his balance and began to walk around, he was heading out of the hospital and to the station where he was going to be escorted to the school. After the short walk. They approached the station while the doctor turned and began speaking to Lenny.

"Good luck on your first day. If anything happens to you, your nurse will tell us at the end of the week." The doctor wished Lenny some luck and he was going to receive the information from his caretaker when the week was over.

"See you later." Lenny told the doctor. The doctor and the nurse walked away as Lenny was left to his own devices, the commuter train pulled up as the doors opened, the passengers got off first, after the passengers that departed for this station, the new passengers began to board. Among them was Lenny. He decided to take the seat closest to the door so when they did arrive at the next station, he could get off of it. Sitting there by himself, he watched as the doors closed and the commuter train began to roll along the track to the next station. Lenny looked around as two girls who were dressed in Yamaku uniforms one a traditional girls uniform and another in a boy's uniform with the sleeves tied up at what seemed to be at the elbows. One of the girls was listening to a video with the volume up as she wanted to enjoy her early morning commute.

James Coffey- Legends Of The Rails

Lenny was curious to what the two girls were listening and watching, the screen to girl's phone looked like a bunch of new engines being taken out of the build shed and being delivered to their destinations. Lenny was curious, one of them read the number that he received in the hospital.

"You seem to like what Rin is watching." The first girl began. She had poplar green eyes and long light brown twintails. Lenny seemed to look down as below the knees were a pair of metal like legs with no flesh and bone. She seemed to be excited to see someone. "If Rin seemed to have her headphones and not be blasting the video without headphones."

"Who… are… you?" Lenny asked while stuttering a bit. The two girls looked at him while he was nervously stuttering the words out.

"What's to be scared about? I'm Emi Ibarazaki and this is my friend Rin." Emi introduced herself to Lenny. Rin lazily lifted her head from the phone before looking at the stranger.

"Hey." Rin lazily told them. She looked at them while Lenny wasn't going to say who he was. He instead wanted to skip the subject of introduction and instead focus on why they were out.

"Why are you two out?" Lenny asked. Emi just smiled listening to the stranger's disposition and why he was carrying his bags over his shoulder.

"We just visited my mother last night and we missed the last train back to school which we had to spend the night." Emi tried her best to explain it.

"Don't thank me." Rin shrugged. The train seemed to stop as the three of them seemed to get out and headed onto the platform. Lenny sighed before inhaling and exhaling. He was still curious about the two girls but he didn't want to introduce himself to them out of fear.

"Well, it's my first day, I might as well see what I can make of it." Lenny told himself. He continued to walk along and follow the arrows to Yamaku Academy. He looked down to the heart monitor to make sure the vitals were in check in case something spiked and he wasn't going to be able to do something about it. He decided to follow the two girls to Yamaku, sensing that was where he needed to go.

Lenny arrived at the front gates, the gates seem to be full of grandeur but to Lenny, they seem to be inviting a new life ahead. He didn't know who was setting up his dorm, but it certainly wasn't his mother. Lenny looked at the building ahead, red bricks, black wrought iron and gray plaster didn't seem to be welcoming at first, but Lenny didn't think much of it. He needed to get a uniform that would suit his needs and get to know his bearings around in this unfamiliar place. He walked inside as if he was bidding farewell to the gates. He was still wondering about the two girls he met when he was at the train station. He tried his best to think about it.

Making his way inside of the school grounds, Lenny looked around to see the grounds were lush and green with plenty of buildings around him. This was a bit much for Lenny but it was something new for him especially getting stuck in the hospital for months without seeing anything new was a breath of fresh air to him. At least the grounds were clean which was a nice bonus for him. He then made his way to the main building, taking in the sight around him. It seemed a little daunting, but Lenny hoped that the people inside were inviting. Lenny made his way inside of the building. The reason he would have felt so calm was the fact that there was a lot of greenery around him. Green was a color that seemed to calm someone down but was it another color? Lenny didn't want to overthink this while getting a look around inside.

Inside the building, there were many students and staff that were up and about, Lenny had arrived at seven in the morning. It was rush hour for the school and classes weren't going to start for another half hour or so. Lenny made his way to the front desk where one of the adults was waiting for him. The adult seemed to be wearing a brown trench coat with unkempt hair; his unkempt appearance suggested a laid back personality.

Katawa Shoujo- Fripperies

You must be… Hi… Ha…?" The person at the front desk tried to get his last name correct.

"Hirahi." Lenny told him. The man at the front desk nodded as he learned the name.

"Nice to meet you, your doctor told me all about you. You seem to be not in the school uniform, but we definitely have some spares for you. I'm Aiko Mutou, your first period science teacher and your homeroom teacher. And who might you be, mister Hirahi?" Mutou introduced himself as one of Lenny's teachers.

"Lenny." Lenny said his name to Mutou.

"Nice to meet you Lenny, I got a spare uniform for you, and I wanted to see if it was to fit you before we let you off to class." Mutou was gracious to Lenny; he decided to lead him away while keeping tabs with the new student. Lenny followed Mutou while he was leading him to a changing room where one of the uniforms was waiting for him. The thought of the girls that he met on the train were still fresh in his mind, were they going. Mutou pulled him into the school's dressing room "These uniforms are custom made and could be preferred to anyone's needs. I want to see what it would look like on you." Mutou would hand Lenny the uniform that had been neatly packaged away. Lenny gently opened the uniform package to reveal a green overcoat, a white button down shirt with green pants, black shoes and a black tie. He then went into the changing room to see which combination fits him the best. He decided to ditch the old clothes he had from the hospital and began putting on the new clothes. After a minute of experimentation, Lenny stepped out of the changing room.

"I bet this would be for you." Lenny began. Lenny had decided to go with the white button down shirt, the pants and the shoes, he wasn't fond of the green overcoat and decided to keep the tie. "I will keep the tie but only put it on for ceremonial purposes as wearing a tie everyday seems awkward at best."

"That's great to hear, everyone has their preferences." Mutou replied to Lenny's request. Lenny then stuffed the tie into his pocket so that he was going to hang it up somewhere in his dorm. Now they needed to get to know each other more while they were walking to their classes. Lenny picked up the bag he had and began to walk with Mutou. "So, what caused you to come here in the first place?" Mutou asked Lenny if he had a reason why he came to Yamaku Academy.

"I had a heart attack which left me confined to my bed for months. I wanted to talk about my emotions, but I didn't get the chance to. It was almost as if something wasn't right and I kept stuttering, then it crept up on me and slapped me across the face and I just collapsed like that. Then everything was dark, there were no stars to act as the guide, no moon as the light. Everything went black." Lenny explained to Mutou, trying his best to trace his steps back to what happened on that fateful day. Mutou nodded and began to speak.

"So, you suffered something similar to Hisao Nakai when I first met him. Can you unbutton your shirt so I can see what the doctors did to you?" Mutou asked Lenny. Lenny paused as he began to think, he didn't feel comfortable with revealing his scars to anyone. Hisao Nakai? That name sounded very familiar to him, almost if it was still fresh in his mind when Iwanako had said it when he was still in the hospital. Mutou was asking for something from him, and he was unable to give an inch as he wasn't ready. He began to sweat as the heart monitor began to flash slightly faster. He had to make a decision.

"I'm not ready for that yet, I just came here." Lenny replied. He decided to wait for what Mutou had to say about this.

"That's fine, I think it's normal for someone here to not show their true colors on the first day of being here." Mutou replied. Lenny breathed a sigh of relief as he had calmed down. The heart monitor began behaving normally. Mutou looked down to see the red wrist watch-like device attached to Lenny's wrist. "What's that you have on your left wrist?"

"That's my heart monitor, it takes my heart beat and the light that flashes is a reflection of that. I have to pay attention to it." Lenny replied.

"So, do you need it?" Mutou asked Lenny if he needed the monitor on his wrist.

"Yes, it is ordered by the doctor that I have to have it on my wrist at all times. And if I don't it would be hard to determine what is going to happen to me." Lenny told Mutou why he needed this device on his wrist. "My doctor also said my class load is reduced so I have to learn to make more friends so more of these heart attacks don't happen."

"There's plenty to choose from. Go out there and see who you can talk to." Mutou gave Lenny some courage to be social. Lenny walked forward as he had Mutou watching him.

Lenny tried walking along the school hallway as many of the students were chatting away before their classes were to begin. Lenny tried his best, but he seemed anxious around all of these unfamiliar students, he began to nervously sweat as two girls turned and began to look at him. Lenny also began to shake a bit as it was snowballing down. The heart monitor was behaving erratically, and Lenny felt something was coming. He placed his hand on his chest while trying his best to keep himself calm. The students looked at him wondering if there was something wrong with him, but the heart monitor was flashing ever so faster. But for Lenny this was too much for him. Without any sense of guidance or direction, Lenny unexpectedly collapsed onto the floor landing back up to the ceiling. Mutou looked at this as he noticed Lenny was on the ground.

"Lenny!" Mutou shouted, he ran over and tried to figure out if the new student was okay. Lenny laid there not responding.

"Is he okay?" Another student replied. They walked over to see what had happened. Some of the students. Oh dear, an incident at Yamaku involving a student toppling over from a condition on the first day? That was pretty embarrassing to hear about.

Katawa Shoujo- School Days

Inside of the classroom, the students were getting pretty antsy about where their teacher was. They were either chatting among themselves or waiting patiently for the teacher. Finally the door opened with Mutou stepping in as if he had encountered something that left him partially disturbed.

"Sorry for running late, something happened regarding one of our new students but he's going to be fine." Mutou began. The reaction from the class was a little mixed, some of the students were chatting away as they were excited about getting a new classmate, others were nervous and a couple quietly plotted revenge.

"Where is he?" One of the students asked. "I don't see him anywhere."

"He's in the nurse's office Hisao. He's doing okay for the time being but I'm not too sure about it. Since a bit of time has been wasted, now let's see what we can get done." Mutou explained to the class that they needed to see what they could do with the limited amount of time they had left today. Mutuo would turn to the chalkboard and begin to write stuff down. Hiso was looking ahead while a girl with purple hair, a classmate, was looking at Hisao.

"Hisao… is this new kid… friendly?" She nervously asked. Hisao knew that there was nothing to worry about but he had to reassure his friend.

"It's okay Hanako, I bet the new kid must've suffered a bit of stage fright. I'll probably go visit him later on today when I get the chance but for now we should learn. If I do run into him, I'll see who he is." Hisao tried his best to comfort Hanako. Hanako looked ahead at the board and pay attention. Well they shouldn't be worried about the new kid, for now.

The day went on as Hisao decided to visit the School Nurse's office remembering where this kid was sent to. He was trying to figure out who this person Mutou said he was. He might as well get checked out. He seemed to run into a familiar face that was also heading to the same place as he was.

"Hello Emi, I haven't seen you in a while, how's everything?" Hisao seemed to ask Emi about her condition and what was going on.

"I'm doing fine Hisao, I was wondering about the new kid the school has got and my friend had said he was in this office. I've decided to get my legs checked." Emi explained to Hisao that she was going for a check up. Hisao nodded as he seemed to approve of this.

"Okay, let's go visit him." Hisao told Emi. Emi's face lit up with a smile as she headed off to see who was in there. They entered to see the School Nurse working behind his desk.

"Oh hello there." The School Nurse introduced himself. He is young-looking and sort of rugged, but the dimples in his cheeks wash that impression away when he smiles.

Katawa Shoujo- Ah Eh I Oh You

"Hey there Nurse, how is everything going?" Hisao asked the nurse. He wanted to see how well he was doing.

"I'm doing good Hisao. I bet you and Emi are down here for a check up." The School Nurse explained with a smile. Hisao seemed to nod with approval while looking at the School Nurse's smile.

"All right since I've come a few minutes before lunch, I might as well get this done and over with. I was surprised to see Emi as the smell of sweat from her was noticeable." Hisao explained to the School Nurse.

"I work out a lot on the track so I need to get my legs checked." Emi explained to Hisao while the nurse was taking a listen to Hisao's heart to make sure everything was in order.

"Very good. You've been taking care of yourself and I appreciate it.' The School Nurse told Hisao that he was in good shape. He decided to take a look at Emi next. Emi was staring at the stranger, he looked like the one she saw on the train this morning. She remained curious about him. "Emi, can I see your stubs?" The Nurse seemed to ask for Emi to remove her prosthetic legs. Emi did so. The Nurse inspected them as he seemed to approve of what was happening. Lenny who was laying on the bed the entire time began to stir. He opened his eyes while sitting up, he didn't know how long he was out for. It could have been hours.

"How are they?" Emi asked.

"They're in good shape, I say you continue to run especially as there is a big event coming up next Monday so you need all the practice you can get." The Nurse told Emi that she could continue to practice.

"Thanks I need to be in the best shape I can." Emi told the Nurse before turning her head to see the kid she saw on the train, she had said her name to him this morning but she didn't know who he was. "Who is he?" Emi asked curiously.

"That's the new student Lenny Hirahi. He just transferred today and I need to get his paperwork sorted." The Nurse told Emi who he was. Lenny's eyes widened, he didn't know how many people knew about him.

[A/N]: I'm finally deciding to remake one of my Katawa Shoujo Fanfictions as I'm deciding to learn from the experience of when I made the second one and decided that this could use some updating/improving to make the story better and therefore double the length of it.

Here are some goals I have laid out for when I will be rewriting this:

Giving Lenny Hirahi more personality and fleshing out his backstory a bit more.

Making Hanako and Hisao more important as Iwanako's words seem to linger in both Lenny and Hisao.

Give Miki Mirua a scene with Lenny as they talk about Emi. And maybe a couple scenes in general.

I feel like with this as I felt I gave Hanako a lot of interaction with the other Katawa Shoujo Fanfic where she joined the Newspaper Club and became friends with Tucker and Rin, with Hisao however, I only paid lip service to him despite having a relatively minor role of just being company to Tucker. This story however, Hisao would play a much greater role with him acting as a guide for Lenny while Hisao helps the main character learn to move forward with his disability. And speaking of Hanako, this fanfic takes place shortly after Hanako's good ending, like maybe a couple to a few days. Hanako has moved forward in life but she still somewhat struggles with her anxiety. Lenny has also developed some anxiety and stutters in conversations by only saying a few words at a time. Having the two getting to know and trust each other is something that should also be added. Even though this is still Emi's route, I plan on taking some elements from Hanako's route and adding them here.

I'm blabbering about what I have planned but I definitely plan on making this fanfic a lot longer than usual. I'll see you in the second chapter.
