A young man from earth wakes up in an unfamiliar place with a young girl with a red hood and silver eyes asking if he's alright. 'Thoughts'

-1-

Blinking awake I instantly notice two concerning things. One was a floating text box above my head [Welcome to the Game Player]. The other was a young girl looking down at me. A girl that was probably 6 or 7 years old. With hair a strange mixture of black with reddish bangs, and eyes that could only be described as Silver. She wore a dark red sleeveless hoodie with an attached cape, a white top underneath her hoodie, a black skirt and black shoes

"You're Awake," She exclaimed. "How are you feeling? What's your name? Where are you from? How did you end up in the woods? Whoa you have silver eyes too I've never met anyone else but me and my mom with those. Did your parents have them? What are those gauntlets? Your ears are really cool too! Can I pet them? "

All of this was said in the course of one breath and as I tried to decipher all that she had just said a blond man wearing brown cargo shorts with a dark brown belt, black shoes, a red bandana on his left arm and a brown leather vest over a tan dress shirt with the right sleeve cut off. On his right arm was a tattoo resembling a heart.

"Ruby give the Kid some time to breathe," He turned to me as he said this."My name's Taiyang Xiao Long. You can call me Tai, and this is my daughter Ruby Rose. We found you outside wrapped in that robe and clutching those gauntlets. Are you hungry or do you want to wash up first?"

"Where am I?" I question. 'My voice sounds weird! What was that She said about my ears and eyes?' "I think I want to wash up first if that's OK."

"You're on Patch, an island west of Vale." Tai answers. "Sure kid I'll show you where the bathroom is."

As I go to follow him and slide off the couch I was lying on I realize how much bigger everything is I realize that I'm not that much taller than Ruby I look at my hands still clutching a pair of strange gauntlets, that bear a strong resemblance to both Deadshot's gauntlets and the Hidden blades from Assassin's Creed, and realize how small my fingers look.

'OK why am I not Freaking out more at this?' I think.

Not wanting to keep Tai waiting anymore, I set the gauntlets on the coffee table and followed him to the bathroom.

"Just Holler if you need anything," Tai told me as he opened the door for me. "Now I know they're definitely going to be too big for you but I left some of my old clothes and a towel in there you can At least wear them 'til we wash your old clothes."

"Thank you Tai," I mumble. Still slightly disoriented but hoping that a shower would help clear my head. As I shut the bathroom door and started getting ready for the shower I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror and immediately do a double take

"So that's what she meant," I whisper while looking at myself for what feels like the first time, raising my hand to my head. I feel the round ears that almost perfectly blend into my shaggy black hair. I see my eyes, no longer the hazel mixture of brown, green, and yellow, but a dull silver closely resembling Ruby's.

'Status,' I think out trying something from a barely remembered comic. And to my combined shock and slight dread a text box appears in my vision.

'Welp guess this is really happening,' I think as I hang the black assassins robe on the bathroom door and toss the rest of my, fairly filthy, clothing on the floor in a pile not failing to notice the ill fit of the clothing as if it's meant for a larger person or for me to grow into. Getting into the shower I bask in the heat of the water pouring over me, washing what appears to be days or maybe even weeks of grime off my body and out of my hair. A wave of dizziness comes over me as memories flash through my mind. Merging with my own in a way that would have shattered an unprotected mind.I remembered my old lives on earth one as a child of an upper middle class family in the US, and one as a novice trainee in an ancient order of assassins living on the run with my parents. My name and the names of my family being some of the few things I couldn't remember.

But I also remembered my life here on Remnant or more to the point I remember the past month or so of it and the events leading up to my arrival on Patch. I remember my parents waking me in the middle of the night at our home in the outskirts of Vacuo and bundling me and a few of our meager possessions onto a boat saying we were going to be stopping in Vale before heading to Menagerie. I remembered the storms that blew us onto the shores of Patch. I remember the panic as we were chased by the creatures of grimm through the forests. My father wrapping his robes around my shoulders, shoving one of his gauntlets into my hands as he tried to delay the monsters and give me and my mother time to escape. My mother giving me the amulet with our family crest and the opposite gauntlet to my fathers and telling me to run and think happy thoughts as she drew the grimm away from me. Stumbling through the woods throughout the night until tripping over a tree root and tumbling down a hill. My vision darkening as a head with blond hair comes into my sight.

Dressing in the baggy shirt and shorts Tai had left for me, putting on my amulet and draping my robe around my shoulder, I grab my dirty clothes and exit the bathroom to the heavenly smell of eggs, bacon, and 'Is that Chocolate chip cookies?' I think in mild surprise. Following my sharper than normal nose I find Tai and Ruby sitting around a table with another girl a couple years older than me with the wildest mane of blond hair I had ever seen hanging down to the middle of her back. She wore a tan tunic style shirt with a leather belt and black shorts that went just past her knees and yellow socks with the tops folded down to meet her leather shoes.

Tai glances up and sees me at the door salivating slightly and holding my dirty clothes. He stands and walks towards me. He takes my dirty clothes and seems to be about to say something until he notices my amulet and his eyes widen.

"What's your name Kid?" He asks softly as if he already knew my answers while taking my dirty clothes. "Or your parents' names?"

"It's Ciar," I reply, slightly confused at his questions. "Ciar Tzefanya Uwzal. And my parents' names ar-were Ophir and Ailbhe Uwzal." I stumble slightly at the tense and realization in my sentence.

A grim look comes across his face at their names and the tense I used.

"I thought so," he murmurs under his breath.

Clearing his throat and putting a smile on, he crouches to my eye level."Well Ciar, how would you feel about staying with us?" He asks."I knew your parents a long time ago. They were very good friends of mine. The only reason I found you out there was that your mom messaged me in the middle of the night."

He holds up his Scroll to me so I can read the message myself.

~Tai, We crashed on Patch on our way to Vale. The Grimm swarmed us. Ophir bought us time but they were too much for him. We tried to outrun them but they found us. Our son is headed in your direction. Please care for him as if he were your own. I know the burden that this may bring upon you but there are few others I would entrust him to. Goodbye old friend, tell our son we love him.

We work in the dark to serve the light. We sacrifice gladly so that others may live in peace~

My eyes start to water as I finish reading my mothers last words. "I guess staying with you wouldn't be too bad." I say as I try to hold back the tears that come unbidden to my eyes.

"Come have some breakfast while I go throw these in the wash," Tai says as he gently guides me to the table. "You already met Ruby whos just about the same age as you are," I glance up at her to see her waving at me with a mouthful of cookies."And this is my other daughter Yang Xiao Long." he says pointing to the blond girl who looks like she must have just woken up who has a decent sized portion of eggs and bacon on her plate. She still manages to give me a wide grin around a mouthful of eggs and bacon.

"Hi I'm Ciar Uwzal," I greet them softly, as Tai leaves the room with my clothes. "I'm 7. How old are you guys?" I ask trying to start up a conversation

"OOH, we're almost the same age!" Squeals Ruby. "I'm 6, so I'll be a year behind you in school. I'm going to grow up to be a huntress like my mom and I'm going to save everybody. How about you, don't you think Huntsman and Huntresses are the Coolest!?"

"Calm down there Rubes," Yang says. "I'm 8, I'm going to be a huntress too. Dad says I like fighting too much to be anything else. I mean it's not my fault if I like stuff to start and end with a YANG right?"

Hearing Ruby's groan at the honestly pretty bad pun I turn to her and ask, "Is she like this all the time?"

"Unfortunately," comes the discomforting reply from the younger girl. "But honestly… Dad's are worse," she groans out before perking up again. "But you get used to it. And Yang's puns are showing steady signs of improvement."

"Wow they must have been terrible if that was an improvement." I deadpan only to receive a shout of "Hey!" from the blond in question. "And I think I'm going to be a huntsman too." After I finish talking I start to devour the food on the table in front of me with all the appetite of someone who hasn't eaten in days.
