"Ughhh… this sucks" A decoratively dressed brunette mused to herself as she blew her hair out of her face with a puff of air through her lips, why was it always her? "Why do I always have to get stuck with the boring grunt work!" The shrine maiden complained, it was always her that Histoire was sending in to whittle down on the fodder mobs! Well…
That wasn't exactly true…
"Ooooooooo~ It's so cute! Can I take it home with me? Huh? Alice? I wanna take it home!" No. As always, Alice wasn't alone, she was accompanied by the eccentric Higurashi.
"No. That's a dogoo! Put it down, Higurashi!" Alice chastised as she quickly withdrew her wand and put a magic bullet through the gooey creation, splattering it all over.
"Awww… It was cuuuute~ I wanted to take it home~" Higurashi whined, as Alice shook her head. Why was she the professional 'Higurashi wrangler' I mean it wasn't as though she minded much at this point, she had been doing it for years at this point. But seriously. It was always her.
"It's a monster!" She yelled, forehead twitching, as she kept walking further into the dungeon, the two making good pace as they trudged through the heavily infested forest they were tasked with clearing out, the two making quick work of any of the monsters brave enough to challenge them, eventually stumbling to the back of the dungeon as…
"Oh this is a big one" Alice pointed out, whistling as she looked at the impressive and imposing bird like creature, "Now Higurashi, even if you think this is cute you can't-" Alice couldn't even finish her sentence before she felt a gust beside her, as the orange haired woman had already withdrawn her machete, and was rapidly striking at the beast, quickly dismantling the creature until it was nothing more than a few pixels,
"Not cute!" She yelled, as she panted, Alice looking on with a blank expression,
"I'll never understand you" She mused, before looking through the materials the creature had dropped, picking up the ones relevant to the quests they were doing, she soon nodded, "And that's that. We can head back now, HIgurashi" She nodded,
"K~" Higurashi cooed as she swayed over, and the two friends made their way back to the guild, making conversation, idly making small talk before turning in the quests with little hassle,
"Hey, Higurashi, wanna grab something to eat? I'll pay" Alice offered, Higurashi eagerly nodding, understanding it was rare of her friend to offer to pay for anything,
"Mhm! Me and my friends would go out to eat after our activities all the time~" She brightly smiled, as Alice nodded,
"Me and my friends love to eat out too" Alice smiled, as she led the way to one of Planeptune's nicer upscale restaurants,
"Ooooo~ Everything here is so cute! I want to take it all home with me!" Higurashi squealed as she ran all over the restaurant, before feeling a yank on her collar,
"That's enough out of you" Alice shook her head,
"But it's so cute~" Higurashi tried to defend herself,
"You think everything is cute!" the shrine maiden complained. Well… almost everything. Alice tried not to think about it too much, but…
Higurashi never called her cute.
Not that that mattered right.
"Table for 2" Alice spoke with the hostess before dragging Higurashi along to their table as she began looking at the menu, "Hmm that sounds good…" She mused to no one in particular, ignoring Higurashi's squeals about the cuteness of all of the dishes on the menu, in her state of ignoring everything around her, she almost missed a voice to her side,
"Hey cutie" the voice of a male sounded out,
"Huh?" Alice almost didn't even hear the man, staring blankly at him, she looked him up and down. If there could be a more average man, Alice would be surprised. He looked like some no name NPC from a game you see once and never remember, even on the replay you're just like 'oh yea, him'
"I said hey cutie, what are you doin?" The man tried his best at a flirtatious tone, but Alice only stared blankly at the man, never more disinterested,
"I'm having lunch with my friend, now if you could bugger off" She waved off the man, who instead of doing what he was told, instead double tripled and quadrupled down, putting his arm around the purple eyed woman,
"Ahh how bout you ditch that broad, c'mon, I can take you home if ya wa-" Before Alice could even show her own anger, she heard…
"THIEF!" A yell, as Higurashi screamed summoning her machete, as she swung at the man, who fearfully ducked, dodging the sloppy swing,
"Wow what the shit!" He yelled terrified, as Higurashi felt her her face slipping,
"THIEF! THIEF!" She screamed again, as she prepared to swing again, before feeling her arm being held back,
"Higurashi!" Alice yelled, twisting her friend's arm as her machete fell to the ground, "That's enough!" Alice, already upset from the man's advances, was not pleased with her friend, who seemed to calm down a bit,
"But… but… he's a thief!"
"What are you talking about?!" Alice felt her forehead twitching,
"Yea what the fuck bitch?! See what I mean! Ditch that broad and-" The man tried to play it cool from the ground, but no one could miss the shadow starting to cover Higurashi's eyes,
"THIEF! THIEF! THIEF! YOU CAN'T TAKE HER!" Higurashi yelled, instead of grabbing her weapon, she grabbed the woman she was with a she sprinted out of the restaurant,
"Eh?" It didn't even occur to Alice for a few moments after what was happening, but as she looked around and saw she was being carried through downtown Planeptune City, "Higurashi! P-put me down!" She tried to order, but the orange haired woman did not slow at all,
"Not until I take you home!" Higurashi yelled, as Alice continued to struggle,
"Oh hey! Look, it's Higurashi, and Alice! Yooo!" Planeptune's patron CPU waved out as she waved over,
"Neptune! Help me!" Alice yelled as Higurashi sprinted by, Neptune's eyes widening, as she considered,
"Uh… that sorta sounds like its not my problem" She mused to herself as Higurashi was already a few blocks past her. She sure hoped Alice lived, she was cool. But to be honest… if it was between her and herself… she knew who she was choosin, Neptune put her hands behind her head as she continued walking down the street, whistling a tune,
"Damn her! Seriously put me down, Higurashi!" Alice pleaded,
"We're almost there don't worry~" Higurashi presented as she approached a building, entering the apartment complex she soon sprinted up the stairs, opening up her apartments door, she soon slammed it behind her, as she finally put Alice back on her two feet,
"What the hell!" Alice asked, feeling annoyed,
"There! Now no one else can take you home!" Higurashi smiled, as Alice sighed,
"Higurashi… I would have just told that guy to go shove himself…" Alice tried to explain,
"Can't risk it~" Higurashi whistled, as Alice felt herself growing more and more confused,
"Higurashi, what do you even care? You've never called me one of your cuties before!" Alice tried to argue, not expecting the next words out of her friend mouth to be,
"Oh that's because you're the cutie~ You're my cutie~" Higurashi cooed, as Alice nearly choked on her saliva,
"W-what!" Alice choked out,
"Why do you think you never work with anyone else~" Higurashi smile grew more and more cracked,
"What do you mean by that?" Alice asked almost scared to know the answer,
"Oh don't worry about that, but everyone at the guild knows you only work with me~" Higurashi explained, leaving out the part about threatening everyone there with bloody machete death for any infractions
"...I'm almost worried." Sure, Alice had an inkling of an idea of what that entailed, and she knew how Higurashi could be, but this was certainly surprising. Although… not necessarily in a bad way… it was… nice to be worried about after feeling her shrine so neglected for all those years.
"Oh don't worry~ Everyone knows. You're my cutie. Only I get to take you home, forever" Maybe it was just the fact she didn't have it in her to say no, or maybe she was feeling lazy, or maybe she was truly ok with it, but…
"Yea sure, that's fine" Alice chuckled, as she walked over to the kitchen, "Want a drink?"
"The cute one at the back of the fridge please~"
All those things considered, and perhaps it was something beyond that yet, but, Shanghai Alice knew one thing when Higurashi was concerned…
