Chapter 7
The concept of sheer will has always baffled scientists for centuries. By having pure determination to achieve something, mankind in some cases has been able to defy their own physical capabilities. Astrid was never sure how this was true, but she always knew the concept of sheer will was true. For the first time, she could feel it. After three days of non-stop work, she'd manage to get a clear picture of all that was going on around her, from Victor's plans and this mysterious assassin to the Government's own plans. Finally, she had a clear picture. The energy taken to go three full days without food, water or sleep finally washed over her as she fell onto her bed completely exhausted.
She closed her eyes, allowing the events of the last week unfold in her mind once again...

Tears fled down from her eyes as she sat on Hiccup's bed. She had failed. The weight of it caused her to plummet even further into hopelessness, all she could do was cry. She peered out of the window and noticed a couple of police cars had stopped. She barrelled down the stairs and out of the back door, hopping over the fence and running. Soon the news of the murders of those security guards would go to the local news. She ran through some back-alleys and across a field until she made it to her 'house'.
She almost ran into the garbage bin as she ran into her house. The pain of running so far finally entered her as she slid against the door and sobbed. She really had failed, just like he said she would. She had failed her country, failed her father, failed her job, failed her boyfriend but most importantly, she had failed herself.
After almost half an hour of crying, she managed to get into her bedroom. A new set of clothes felt nice to wear after such a run. She cleaned herself up and drank some water as she sat down on her own bed. Finally composed, she allowed her thoughts to run again. The next course of action would be explaining to her father and Stoick what happened. There was no excuse for her failure. Then the following step would be tracking down Hiccup and rescuing him. Another fear crept over her, Hiccup didn't know that she was a secret agent, that everything in his love life was a lie, a mirage. That hurt a lot more.

Astrid did not sleep that night. Every time she closed her eyes, it all flashed in front of her. Every moment she had spent truly happy in her life, gone, snatched away from her because of a mistake. Her mistake. Every moment she had spent training, the countless hours of sweat, blood and tears she had given. All to fumble it all up last minute. The guilt felt heavy in her chest, she couldn't even get up off of her bed. Tears kept on pricking the sides of her eyes. Finally, she managed to get some kind of sleep.
The next morning was difficult. It was hard enough for Astrid to even get up, let alone get dressed and go downstairs. She managed to pull every bit of courage left inside of her and walked down the stairs, only for all of it to disappear once again. Sitting on the sofa were the two people she dreaded the most. Her father and Stoick the Vast. From the dark balls under his eyes, she could tell he hadn't got much rest either. Her father on the other hand looked furious.
"You had one job Astrid, ONE JOB! JUST MAKE SURE HE'S SAFE AND YA COULDN'T DO THAT EITHER."
"Calm down, there's still hope." Stoick got up and said, pacing around the room, "What have you got so far lass?"
Astrid took a deep breath, "Sir, I've had a hunch for a while which I believe is true, there's someone in the school with me, someone working... for Victor." Stoick stopped dead in his tracks.
"Of course, why wasn't I expecting this? I'm a fool." He fell onto the closest armchair and put his head in his arms, "All I've ever done is push the boy away from my gaze, made him a lesser priority. I'm an excuse of a father." Astrid's father put an arm around his friend.
"It's okay Stoick, we'll get him back." He reassured. Astrid found it strange, seeing such a strong and powerful man so weak and low. Stoick sat straight, setting his tie properly and look at Astrid.
"Have you managed to narrow down who this person may be?"
"I have a theory, a boy named Ulf. Joined around the same time as Hunter -sorry Hiccup-. He always sits away from everyone, silent and observing everything going on around him. I once tailed him through the suburbs to the docks where I ended up fighting a mysterious man who vowed he'd take the everything I love away from me. I guess he did." Now it was Astrid's turn, she slumped down on the sofa, a couple of tears falling down her face.
"I know you loved my boy Astrid, I love him to, but time is wasting, every moment we spend waiting is another moment of finding him wasted. I'm afraid Victor has place several moles in the Government, so I afraid I can give you the resources you need. But I can give you this." Stoick handed her a small device which could be connected to her laptop, "It gives you full access to our files. You have a week, find my son."
Stoick stood up, brushing down his suit's jacket as his bodyguards entered the room. "I have a meeting with the cabinet regarding the prevention of any further attacks. Find him Astrid." With that chilling sentence in the atmosphere, Stoick and Astrid's father left. She sat in silence as she heard the cars leave from the house down the road. She felt heavy, as if someone had just dialled the gravity up. Finding Hiccup would not be easy, but Astrid suddenly felt a tug of determination inside of her. She could do this. She had to. Climbing back up the stairs and into her room, she plugged in the special device into her laptop. Suddenly a site opened, the Government's logo in the top right corner, and in the middle, an ominous search bar. The hunt had begun...
(⊙o⊙)
Astrid sat up on her bed. It felt she had slept for years. She checked the time on her watch, a red 4:20 A.M glowed in the dark room. She turned on the small desk light, it's ghastly light illuminating the board she had been working on for the last 3 days. Colour coded string connected different pictures, from mysterious shipping containers to odd files she had found on the servers connected to the terrorist attacks and at the centre, Ulf. She hadn't found much on Ulf, just a history of childhood trauma and moving from adoption centre to foster homes most of his life. She almost felt sad for him, but she knew it was a lie. The person's picture she had in front of her was a spy, a secret agent who had taken her Hiccup away from her. Yet something was missing, something which connected everything together... She looked more deeper at the board, every single photo, every single thought. Suddenly, something clicked. The place Ulf had run to, where she had fought the assassin. How the bombs were able to get into Berk in the first place... The docks...
Astrid grabbed whatever she could, put on her tactical gear, holstered her gun and sheathed her knifes. The old agents were no longer in the house, they had been murdered. She tore a page from a nearby book scribbling down something before leaving it on the desk, leaving the house and making her way to the docks.
(ʘ ͜ʖ ʘ)
It was almost 5 o'clock when Astrid reached the docks. It was quiet, too quiet for comfort. She crept in shadow to the place where she had originally fought the mysterious assassin. There had to be something, anything here. Anything which could bring her Hiccup back. Suddenly, a clang reverberated across the docks. It was close. Astrid hugged a shipping container and peeked around the corner. She was hoping for anything which could tell her who the assassin was, but what she saw before her was entirely different. A lone ship, fitted with radio dishes and some solar panels, was docked at the edge of the water. Armed men surrounded it, forming a defensive perimeter while 2 of them dragged a person onboard, their head covered with a black cloth bag.
"You're making a big mistake! My father can pay you double of what Victor is offering!" That voice... It was Hiccup! Astrid pulled out her gun and began formulating a plan.
"Well, well, well, what do we have here?" A voice said from behind her. Astrid turned just in time to get hit with something on her head. Her vision doubled as everything slowly went black. She The last thing she could remember was the glint of the knife, that same knife which was thrown at her while she fought the assassin.
She felt the cold floor as finally, her consciousness leaving her alone and afraid...
