Ch4
It has been several weeks since the ceremony took place in Washington D.C, and although Sam is trying to move forward with her physical and psychological recovery, there are days when everything seems to fall apart around her.
While Jack is in the living room, he suddenly hears a loud thud followed by a heart-wrenching cry. Instinctively, he rushes to the kitchen, where he finds Sam on the floor, trying to get up with difficulty as her prosthetics seem to have momentarily locked up.
Worried, Jack tries to approach her to help, but Sam yells at him to leave, not to touch her, and to leave her alone. He tries to reassure her, but she continues to scream and cry, hitting the cabinet in frustration.
"Don't touch me! Leave me alone!" Sam cries, tears in her eyes. "I can't do anything right! Can't you see it?"
Jack remains kneeling by her side, keeping his distance and waiting for her to calm down. "I know this is hard, but you don't have to do it alone. I'm here for you," he says gently and calmly.
"You can't help me," Sam responds with a sob. "I'm a failure; I can't do anything right. I can't even grab a plate from the cabinet without falling."
Jack stays by her side, patiently waiting for her to calm down. Finally, after a few minutes, Sam stops crying and sits, leaning against the wall.
"I'm sorry," she says with a trembling voice. "I just feel so frustrated with myself sometimes. I didn't mean to yell at you."
Jack gently embraces her, feeling her body trembling. "It's okay, it's alright. But you don't have to do it alone. I'm here with you, always."
As Jack hugs Sam, she clings to him, releasing all her emotions in that moment. Her body trembles with a mixture of frustration, sadness, and exhaustion consuming her. Jack tenderly strokes her hair, trying to provide comfort in the midst of despair.
"I understand that you feel this way, but you're not a failure. Look at all you've accomplished," Jack assures her with a firm yet compassionate voice. "You've been through so much, and you've shown incredible strength. We all have difficult moments, but what's important is that you're not alone. I'm here for you, always will be."
"But I don't want to burden you," she whispers, her voice breaking with sadness. "I don't want you to be trapped in this situation because of me."
Jack cups her face with both hands, forcing her to look directly into his eyes. "You're not a burden, Sam. You're the person I love more than anything in this world. Nothing you're going through will change that. There's no place in the world I'd rather be than by your side."
Sam's tears continue to flow, but now they are tears mixed with love as she clings to Jack, finding comfort in his protective embrace.
With the passing minutes, Sam regains composure and stands up with Jack's assistance as he hands her the crutches. Together, they clean up the mess in the kitchen and return to their daily routine.
She is fully aware that there will be more difficult moments like this ahead, but she also knows that part of the healing process is accepting them to confront them.
*I know this chapter is very short, but I promise to make it up to you in the next one :)
