Episode 10: Pups Save A Hoot! Chase's Commitments!

September 29th, 2029

It was a windy autumn day in Adventure Bay. Ben and Alex were playing catch outside of the lookout, while Rubble was getting up from a nap and going to eat, and Chase was holed up in his puphouse. "I'm starving!" Rubble exclaimed as his stomach rumbled.

"Hoo?" A shrill voice asked.

"Who? ME, that's who, whoever you are!" Rubble giggled as he went over to his food bowl.

More 'hoo' sounds could be heard as a banging noise was heard on Chase's puphouse door. "Who's there?" Chase wondered as he opened up his puphouse.

"Hoo?" He heard in response.

Looking down, he saw a tiny little baby owl on the ground. "Who who? Oh, I get it! Yoo-hoo, you were calling me! Heh heh! That's funny. I like you." Chase giggled as he looked at the little bird.

Then he realized what he was talking to. "Wait, you're not a knock-knock joke. You're an owl, a tiny owl. What's your name, little guy?" Chase asked the pink colored avian. Another hoot was given as a reply once the owl flapped its wings and landed on his nose. "We just did that. You're a hoot! Hey, that's a good name for you. Little Hootie." Chase exclaimed, taking a liking to this nickname.

The fledgling owl flapped and hooted several times, before drooping her head sadly. "Is something wrong? Well, you picked the right pup." Chase promised. Alex saw the owl and began to run towards it, seeing it as a meal- Ben was still training the wolf cub to not hunt and follow through on his predator, wild instincts.

"Alex! No. That is not a toy or something to hunt!" Ben commanded, causing Alex to curl up into a ball before wrapping himself around Ben's leg sadly.

"Um, Chase, you help your little friend with their problem. Keep 'em away from Alex, okay? I don't want him chasing after her." Ben asked.

Hootie chirped before flying off, and Chase followed his bird pal. Hootie was blown back by the strong fall winds onto Chase's nose. "Show me the way, little Hootie!" Chase said.

Hootie flapped and got back in the air, guiding Chase to a part of the woods. Eventually she guided him to a fallen down tree. "So the problem is this tree?" Chase asked in confusion. Hootie frantically hooted multiple times and flapped her wings, pointing at the fallen log. "Looks like it fell over in the wind… what's Hootie trying to tell me?" Chase mumbled.

As a PAW Patrol pup, Chase felt compelled, obligated to help any creature that needed assistance. He wanted to be helpful, help others. Just like Ryder helped him all those years ago when he was just a pup trying to make it to the next day on the streets of Adventure City. While Ryder's motto was "No job is too big, no pup is too small", Ben had a more impactful motto. "Saving one's life is saving the future!" Ben would proclaim.

And so, he took that to heart. If he could help out, he would. Being the leader of the pups was hard, but he took pride in it. Someone had to lead, after all. Hootie stomped her talon on the trunk, bringing Chase out of his thoughts. "Huh?" Chase pondered as Hootie pointed her wing down a hole in the branch. A motherly 'hoo' reached his ears as a wing poked out and rubbed Hootie's face. "There's another owl in there…? It's stuck, but it seems to be okay for now." Chase noted.

Then he had an idea. "Don't worry! Chase is on the case! I'll just dig down under the tree and the owl can get out." Chase told his owl friend, and began to dig his way underneath the log. Suddenly, the tree began to slide down the cliff, and got extremely close to the cliff edge! "Oh no!" Chase shouted as he ran after the tree. The owl mother poked its head out from a hole on the bottom. "Don't worry, you two. I'll get some help so we can take care of this! We will save you!" The German Shepherd promised before running back to the Lookout.

Chase got back just in time to see Ben and Alex on the motorcycle heading into Adventure Bay. Ryder was working on his ATV. "Ryder! Little Hootie's got a problem!" Chase barked.

"Little who now?" Ryder asked.

"Little Hootie! My owl pal!" Chase answered.

Ryder raised his head, bumped it a little bit on the ATV hood, and turned around to see Chase with an owl on his snout. "OH! I get it! Little Hoot-ie! Heh. Well, what seems to be the trouble?" Ryder replied. Hootie hooted a ton, which Ryder didn't understand.

"He says a tree fell up on the cliff and an owl is trapped inside it. And if we don't do something soon, the whole tree will fall into the sea!" Chase relayed.

"Wow, Chase. You speak pretty good owl." Ryder commented. Chase blushed. "Don't worry, Little Hootie. No job is too big, no pup is too small! PAW Patrol, to the Lookout!" Ryder declared, sliding his Pup Pad open and paging the other pups.

"Hey Ryder, where are Ben and Alex going?" Chase asked as Ryder began to go up the Elevator to prepare the animatic and assignments.

"Oh! Ben took Alex to Katie so she can help him with training." Ryder told Chase.

Chase got in the lookout elevator when it came back down and waited patiently for the rest of the pups to arrive. As he saw them come in, he thought about how they really were his family. They were the only family he had ever known aside from Ben and Ryder. Once again, he was brought out of his thoughts by Marshall shouting to wait up. "Look out for-" Chase began before Marshall crashed into him. Then, the baby owl landed on his nose. "Little Hootie." Chase weakly said.

The elevator brought them up to the top of the Lookout and dressed them in their gear. Once the doors slid open, they all jumped out and lined up. "PAW Patrol, ready for action, Ryder, sir!" Chase solemnly said. Hootie flapped and perched on Chase's police hat.

"This little owl has an emergency, pups. A heavy wind knocked over the tree where Little Hootie lives, and another owl is trapped in the knothole." Ryder announced as the animatic played.

"Oh no! That's terrible!" Rubble gasped.

"We have to help!" Skye affirmed.

"The tree is hanging off a cliff over the water. It can tip over any minute. Chase, I'll need you to use your winch to hold the tree so it doesn't move any further, and we might need someone who can speak owl." Ryder instructed.

"Chase is on this case!" The police dog roared, ready to help.

"Chase speaks owl?" Rubble asked in confusion.

"I don't really speak it, I just know what he's trying to say." Chase replied hesitantly.

"Rubble, I need you and your rig to dig under the tree trunk and let the owl out." Ryder added.

"Rubble on the double!" The bulldog exclaimed.

They then got in their vehicles and Chase started guiding them to where the fallen tree was via the highway, then getting off at an off-road section. "This is it! I saw the big owl in the knothole right here. Listen." Chase said, before knocking his paw against the tree and going 'hoo hoo'. A hoot was given in response as the owl poked its head out.

"Wow, you really DO speak owl!" Rubble gasped, impressed.

"See, Little Hootie? I told you the PAW Patrol would help. Little Hootie...?" Chase began to say, before looking around for his bird buddy. Turning around, they saw the owl sleeping.

"That's one sleepy little fellow!" Rubble chuckled.

"Owls are nocturnal, which means they stay awake all night, so it's no wonder he's tired." Ryder remarked.

Hootie then fell off of the branch, and Chase caught him in his hat. "Sleep tight, little buddy." Chase told the owl as he set the hat down on a rock next to his police cruiser. "Winch!" Chase softly spoke, activating the hook device on his pupmobile and carrying it to the tree. Hooking it around the branch, Chase went back to his cruiser and started to pull back, getting the tree to a position where Rubble could dig a way out for the trapped owl inside.

As Rubble used his pup pack shovel to excavate a path out, Chase could feel the weight of the tree begin to tug and pull down his cruiser. "Rrrgh… come on!" Chase growled, pressing the brakes hard on the vehicle. It wasn't stopping! Quickly, he saw a rock, and drove his cruiser over to the stone, stopping the tree from going over the edge in the nick of time. "We're good! I braced the truck against this rock, but I don't know if it'll hold for long! We need to get that owl out, and quickly!" Chase yelled to Ryder and Rubble.

"I got an idea!" Rubble shouted, and used his bulldozer to lift the tree up off of the ground. This allowed the owl mother to get out right before the winch gave way and the tree fell into the ocean. Chase was given some very grateful hoots as thanks from Hootie and her owl mom.

"Let's find you a new home, huh?" Chase suggested. The mother and daughter owls perched in Chase's truck as he drove up the cliff, making sure to pick out a nice and sturdy tree. "This looks pretty stable. Why don't you try it?" Chase asked the two birds. They flew up and made their home in the tree.

As Chase got back to his truck, he looked back at the tree and whimpered. "Chase, don't worry! Don't be sad! You know where they are, Chase! You can always check in on Little Hootie and her mom!" Rubble reassured Chase.

The pup stopped frowning and perked up, smiling at the thought of that. "Yeah, I guess I can! Thanks Rubble. Hoo hoo!" Chase said, calling out to Little Hootie and her mama.

"What's that Owl for?" Rubble asked. "It means 'good night'." Chase chuckled before they drove back to the Lookout. Chase felt happy with himself. He'd made a friend, met their parents, and he had helped save a life. All in a day's work for the PAW Patrol.
