Season 2 Episode 2: Pups And The Flying Frog! Skye and Marshall's Inner Conflicts!
January 22nd, 2030
Ben smiled as he sat on the bench, watching Marshall bounce up and down on a trampoline for his frog, Smiley, to mimic. "Just… like… this… Smiley!" Marshall yelled as he jumped on the trampoline over and over again.
"Marshall, what are you doing?" Rubble asked.
"Training Smiley, my championship jumping frog. Well, he will be a champion after he wins the Frogapalooza contest today. The frog who jumps the farthest is the winner. I'm trying to train him to jump like this- whoa! OOF!" Marshall explained to the bulldog, before messing up his jump and bouncing off of a ball directly into Rubble's lunch.
"Hey, my meal!" Rubble cried out.
The Dalmatian snacked on a few pieces of kibble before seeing his pet frog jump away. "After him!" Marshall arfed, chasing his frog.
Ben felt a nudge against his leg and looked down from watching Marshall and Rubble's antics to see Skye sitting at his feet. "Hey Ben… Can I talk to you?" Skye asked.
Her voice seemed troubled, like there was something important on her mind. Ben immediately picked up the cockapoo and hugged her. "Of course you can talk to me, Skye. You can talk to me or any of the other pups at any time! We're your family!" Ben answered solemnly.
Skye giggled as she returned the hug with her four puppy legs. "Aww, thanks Ben! But this is… actually about that. Family. I know you, Ryder, Marshall, Chase, and the others are my family now … but you remember the stories I told you about my old family, right? Or at least, my old owner ." Skye replied.
Ben nodded his head yes. "Of course I remember, they were such lovely stories. Your owner Ace, the stunt pilot in training, and her less-kind mother Barb." Ben mused.
"Well… my mind's been wandering to Ace a lot lately. I'm just wondering how she's doing… I miss her. It feels silly!" Skye sighed.
Ben stroked the fur on Skye's head lovingly. "No, no, Skye. That's not silly at all! You have every right to miss Ace. Who knows, maybe you'll meet her again someday." Ben responded, giving Skye words of comfort and reassurance.
An idea started to form in Ben's head. He and Ryder had a lot of money… Perhaps they could invite Ace here to Adventure Bay and pay her to do a stunt show, and then she and Skye could bump into each other and have a fated owner/pup reunion! Ben grinned at the thought. He started typing into his pup pad and began to Google Ace the pilot. Quickly discovering that her last name was Sorenson- rather fitting for an aviator. The eighteen year old was about to sneak off to make a call to her agency to book a show when Skye gasped in terror. "What's going on!? Why is the Lookout vehicle rotator belt moving?! We haven't been called for any emergencies, Ryder and the others are still here!" Skye wondered nervously as her helicopter moved in front of the slide dropoff.
To their shock, Marshall's pet frog slid down the slide and landed in Skye's helicopter puphouse, hitting the button with its tongue and making the puphouse go into helicopter mode! Marshall came down the slide seconds later, but Ben, Ryder, Skye, Rocky, and Rubble were too frozen with shock to get out of the way. The Dalmatian dropped off of the slide and landed on Rubble. "He… he's flying the helicopter." Ben murmured in a mixture of amazement and horror.
"NOT JUST ANY HELICOPTER! MYHELICOPTER! MARSHALL, YOUR STUPID FROG JUST STOLE MY HELICOPTER!" Skye screamed, running up to Marshall and pressing her nose against his to make her point abundantly clear.
"Um… oops ?" Marshall sheepishly said, blushing.
"THAT FROG DOESN'T HAVE A PILOT'S LICENSE! DO YOU KNOW WHAT HE COULD DO TO MY RIDE!?" Skye shouted anxiously.
"Hey, what's this about a frog? I like frogs! They're tasty!" Alex chimed in. The wolf cub walked up to the group, his tail wagging at the mention of a frog.
"No! Not Smiley! You can't eat him until after he wins the Frogapalooza trophy!" Marshall protested.
Ben knew wolf hearing was better than Marshall's hearing, so he leaned closely and lowered his voice to almost a whisper as he leaned into Alex's ear. "You can eat Smiley after Marshall's contest. He already has Fuzzy, he doesn't need another animal companion." Ben quietly told Alex, his voice so quiet that the wolf cub had to listen hard to hear him. Then he leaned away and began to comment on the situation. "Marshall, I literally just upgraded Skye's helicopter so it could drive on the ground at a moderate speed! It would take months to get all the parts to repair it, if Smiley doesn't wreck it so badly that it's almost entirely unsalvageable! I know this isn't your fault, but we have to stop that frog!" Ben exclaimed.
"Don't worry, everyone! You know what me and Ben always say! No job is too big, no pup is too small! PAW Patrol, to the Lookout!" Ryder exclaimed, reassuring the rest of the group before summoning Chase, Zuma, Tuck, and Ella to the Lookout.
Tuck and Ella were hanging out with Wild, Zuma was soaking up some sunshine at the beach on his lounge chair, and Chase was helping direct some traffic for the after-school crowd. The group ran into the Lookout glass elevator, with Marshall riding on Rubble's back. "Thanks for the lift, buddy!" Marshall chuckled.
"Anytime, Marshall!" Rubble responded enthusiastically. The group laughed as the glass elevator started rising up, pausing at the halfway point to dress everyone in their Paw Patrol outfits and pup packs before resuming its ascension. When they reached the top of the Lookout tower, they all lined up in front of Ryder. "PAW Patrol, ready for action, Ryder, sir!" Chase announced.
"Pups, we've got a high flying problem! Marshall's frog flew off in Skye's helicopter, and it's almost time for the frog jumping contest!" Ryder explained.
"AND THAT FROG DOESN'T HAVE HIS PILOT'S LICENSE!" Skye yelled. Ben patted Skye on the head.
"Okay, Skye. Calm down. I know you're upset about your helicopter, but we will get it back. But we can't do it if you're upset like this. Your emotions might impact your flying." Ben told Skye.
The girl pup sighed as she brought her goggles down onto her eyes. "Yeah… you're right, Ben. Okay Skye. Take deep breaths." She mumbled, inhaling and exhaling to calm down.
"Skye, I need you to use your wings to fly up to your helicopter. You'll have to get in and take control. You'll have to do it before Smiley's turn to jump. Meanwhile, Chase, you'll direct traffic so that we can make a safe route to the starting line for Skye. Marshall, I need you to get to the frog jumping contest. Hopefully Smiley will get there in time. Tuck and Ella, go with Marshall and be there to support him." Ryder instructed.
"I'm fired up!" Marshall yipped.
"Sure thing Ryder!" Tuck and Ella chorused.
"Chase is on the case!" The German Shepherd howled.
"Let's take to the skies!" Skye yipped, doing a backflip.
"I'll go with Skye and help her out using the new upgrades for my Dragon Cycle." Ben answered.
"Okay! Paw Patrol is on a roll!" Ryder declared as he and Ben slid down the pole to the Lookout garage.
The pups took the slide to their vehicles, excluding Skye, who used her wings to take off from the balcony. "Dragon Cycle, activate Dragon Wings!" Ben shouted as he pressed a button on the bike, causing wings to sprout as the vessel turned into a mini plane, taking off into the air and flying up behind Skye.
"Ben, your motorcycle can fly now?!" Skye gasped.
"It's been able to ever since the whole Mighty Morphin Power Pup incident!" Ben chuckled confidently.
The two soared through the skies together as they spotted Smiley sloppily flying the helicopter. "Target spotted!" Skye confirmed as she and Ben chased the helicopter.
It went to the bridge, and was coming up behind Chase and Ryder! Ben quickly shouted a warning to the two of them, startling Chase and causing him to leap into Ryder's arms. The aerial duo continued to chase after them, with Skye getting in front of the copter and latching onto the front of it with her paws before deactivating her wings. The cockapoo managed to wiggle and inch her way into the cockpit as Smiley the frog started to do a loop-de-loop. Skye nearly fell off of the helicopter, but bit down on the seat belt and barely managed to hang on. "SKYE!" Ben yelled.
Letting go of the seat belt and getting herself situated in the cockpit, Skye sighed as she started flying back to the frog jumping contest. Hopefully there weren't any more… complications, that would occur while she flew her brother's pet to that silly contest. As of recently, Marshall had become obsessed with proving himself to the new reserve members. Skye didn't understand what he was so worried about. He was a perfectly capable member! Sure he was clumsy at times, but he didn't need to prove anything!
Marshall arrived at the Frogapalooza with Tuck and Ella. The spotted pup jumped out of his fire truck and walked over to the starting line at the racetrack, where he was greeted by Julius, Julia, and Alexander Porter. "Hey Alexander! Hey Julia! Hi Julius!" Marshall greeted the three kids.
"Hi Marshall! Check this out!" Alexander giggled as he set his frog down.
The frog jumped into the air pretty high. However, Marshall's faith in his frog was unwavering. "That's quite a jumper you've got, Alex. He might even come in second ." Marshall boasted.
Mayor Goodway and Mr. Porter gasped. "Oooh, we have quite a confident pup here! But Marshall, where is your frog?" Genevieve asked.
"He's on his way! …I hope." Marshall replied.
Smiley was supposed to jump last, making Marshall breathe a sigh of relief. "Marshall, I was wondering. Why are you in this frog contest anyways? I don't mean to be rude or anything, but it kind of seems silly to have a frog jumping contest. This could be unfair in a multitude of ways." Tuck pointed out.
"Like what?" Marshall asked.
"Well, there's the factor of genetics, the species of frog, the health of the frog…" Tuck listed.
Mayor Goodway chuckled nervously as she realized that Tuck was right. Mentally she made a note to never hold another Frogapalooza in her life. "Why do you want to win the Frogapalooza anyways?" Ella asked.
"I thought that if I could train Smiley to win the contest, it would show that I'm not just a clumsy pup to you new reserve members." Marshall replied.
Ella smiled as she gave Marshall a sisterly lick on the cheek. "Silly Marshall! You've already shown that countless times to us! You're the coolest fire pup ever! You're the record holder, you won the Grand Prix race between the rest of the Paw Patrol, and you're EMT certified!" Ella giggled.
Marshall blushed as his tail started wagging. "Aww, thanks Ella!" Marshall chuckled happily. Minutes passed by as the other frogs jumped for the contest. Suddenly, Skye, Chase, Ryder, Ben, and the others came up. "SMILEY!" Marshall yelled in delight as his frog hopped off of Chase's cruiser. It came time for his pet frog to jump, and thankfully, Smiley jumped the farthest after some encouragement. Marshall was given the Frogapalooza trophy by the mayor, but he set it down and ran over to Skye, hugging her. "I'm so sorry, sis! Smiley nearly wrecked your helicopter, and it was all my fault!" Marshall apologized.
"No, no, Marshall! It's okay! It's not your fault at all! Frogs, well, they don't really listen to anyone! I'm sorry I yelled at you earlier. I was freaking out because I didn't want to lose what made me special." Skye apologized back.
"You'll always be special, Skye! You're our sister!" Rocky piped up. Chase blushed as he looked away, thinking of Skye as more than just a sister. Then, the frog leapt into Marshall's fire truck and the siren started. Ben whipped his head around to see Marshall's fire truck start to drive off wildly. Marshall felt a sinking feeling in his stomach. "...Oh no! Now he knows how I felt!" Skye squeaked in fright as the frog leapt out of the fire engine and it slammed into a tree.
Any love for the frog that Marshall had left vanished when he saw a medium sized dent and cracked headlights on his fire truck. "Alex. Do whatever you want to that frog!" Marshall howled in anger. The wolf growled playfully as he started to chase after the frog. Ben and the others laughed as the dalmatian and wolf cub pursued their jumper. Thankfully the damage to the fire truck pupmobile was only superficial, so they could iron and smooth out the dents and replace the headlights.
