Season 2 Episode 6: Pups Save A Friend! Marshall And Ben Rescue Each Other!
February 1st, 2030
"Hey Mr. Porter! Can I help?" Marshall greeted the produce man, bouncing up and sitting down by his side as the man carried a box of fruits to his shop.
"Thanks, Marshall, but I think I got this. Oh!" Mr. Porter told the dalmatian before an apple rolled off of the box and onto the ground.
Marshall picked it up and bounced it to Mr. Porter using his head. Unfortunately, the apple bounced off of the shopkeeper's head and caused him to toss the rest of the fruit into the street, where it was run over and crushed by the wheels of Farmer Al's pickup truck. "Sorry Mr. Porter! I'll clean them up!" Marshall apologized.
"No, no, you've done enough." Mr. Porter blurted out, then his eyes widened as Marshall lowered his ears and whined. "Sorry, Marshall. I didn't mean to have it come out like that. I've got this, don't worry." Mr. Porter sighed, giving Marshall a pat on the head before he started to clean up the mess.
As he walked down the sidewalk, he saw Mayor Goodway, and perked up. "Hi Mayor Goodway!" Marshall barked as he walked towards her.
The mayor was on a scooter, and she had to swerve out of the way and into some bushes to avoid him. "Marshall! Haven't Ryder and Ben told you to move to the side when someone's riding a scooter towards you?!" Genevieve scolded him.
"Sorry, Mayor…" Marshall whimpered as he drooped his head down and started to walk back to the lookout. His self esteem really low, his mind started to cloud with hurtful and dark thoughts of himself.
"I can't do anything right…" Marshall moaned to himself as he walked into the Lookout front yard, where Alex, Chase, Rocky, and Zuma were playing volleyball with a net set up.
"Marshall! Wanna play some volleyball with us, dude?" Zuma asked enthusiastically.
"I dunno…" The spotted pup murmured dejectedly.
"Come on! It's a blast!" Rocky exclaimed.
Marshall tilted his head as he considered it. "Well… okay!" Marshall answered, deciding to play. Maybe that would lift his spirits a bit! "Check this shot out!" Marshall growled playfully as he nudged the ball with his nose and propelled it into the air, before leaping up and slamming his paw into the volleyball.
The shot ended up hitting the net in such a way that it got Zuma, Alex, Chase, and Rocky all tangled up within the volleyball net, before it fell over.
"Quite the spike, Marshall." Chase grunted sarcastically. "Oh no! The ball! Sorry everyone, I'll go get it!" Marshall yelped in apology before chasing after the volleyball.
Once he had retrieved it, he took it back with him to the Lookout front yard to continue the game with the others, only to find that the others were gone. He could hear them talking in the Lookout lobby, so he walked up to listen in on what they were saying. "Can you believe he did that?" Alex chuckled.
"That silly pup!" Rocky laughed.
"Always messing things up." Chase added.
"He can't do anything right!" Rubble snickered.
Marshall's heart froze cold. "It's true… I can't do anything right. Maybe the PAW Patrol needs a break from me… so long, I guess." Marshall sighed.
Looking back at the tower after he had gathered up some supplies to go camping, he sniffled before driving his fire truck off to the woods.
"Hey Ryder, have you seen Marshall?" Tuck asked, coming in from the balcony as Ben, Ace, and Ryder were fixing up Skye's jetpack in the Lookout control room. They had managed to recover what was left of it from Jake's mountain and salvaged some components to reuse in the new one.
"No. Why do you ask? Is he missing?" Ryder inquired.
"Tuck and I were pacing around the control room when we saw Marshall's fire truck wasn't parked here!" Ella answered anxiously.
"WHAT!?" Ben shouted, spitting out his water and sputtering. Immediately he got his pup pad out and contacted the firefighting pup. "Marshall, it's Ben. Where are you going?" Ben questioned.
"Hi Ben… I'm gonna take a break from the PAW Patrol. The pups are tired of me messing up their games. I want to stop causing problems." Marshall replied.
Ben scratched his head. "Why do you think you're causing problems?" Ben responded, taken aback by this.
"Well, I screwed up and got Mr. Porter's produce crushed in the street, then I caused Mayor Goodway to crash into a bush, and now I've ruined the volleyball game. Rocky called me silly, Chase said I always messed things up, and Rubble said I couldn't do anything right. That's why I'm taking a break. Marshall out." Marshall said, before pressing his paw to the pup tag and pushing on it. That was a secret Ben had shown him, a way to disable the GPS and the communication system on the pup tag.
"Something's terribly wrong! Marshall thinks we don't want him around! Why would Chase and the others say those things, Ben?" Tuck asked.
"I'm going to find out!" Ben snarled angrily as he sprinted into the Lookout tower elevator, the Golden Retriever twins joining him. The elevator dropped to the lobby, and Ben stormed out of the doors. "How DARE you call Marshall those things!" Ben yelled at them.
"What? Ben, what are you talking about?" Rocky wondered, unsettled by the raw anger that was in Ben's voice.
"Yes you did! Chase, you said Marshall messed things up, and Rubble said that Marshall couldn't do anything right!" Tuck argued.
"We weren't talking about Marshall, we were talking about Apollo's archnemesis on the show!" Rubble protested.
"That doesn't give you the right to say those awful things! Saying that someone can't do anything right belongs on the bad word list!" Ella added.
Ben and Ryder had a list of bad words that the pups weren't allowed to repeat, consisting of expletives that they had accidentally let slip at very rare times.
"Okay, that's it. No more Apollo The Super Pup. It's a subpar show that insults the intelligence of the viewers, and Apollo constantly breaks the fourth wall asking for help yet never listens to most of the advice we give him. I'm going to introduce you all to the DC Animated Universe when this is over!" Ben exclaimed, picking up the TV remote and shutting off the television. Ryder came down from the control room.
"Pups, Ben, what's with all the yelling?" Ryder asked worriedly.
Ben facepalmed. "MARSHALL LEFT, RYDER! You know what, screw this! Go ahead Ryder! Do your briefing, give the assignments out or whatever. I'm done wasting time or waiting. I'm finding my pup and none of you are going to stop me!" Ben roared in anger before he grabbed his morpher from his belt, donning his armor before running out of the Lookout tower and to the garage, where he mounted his motorcycle and drove off.
While he drove, he turned the pup pad on and activated a hidden function that no one but himself and Ryder knew about. If the pups ever manually turned their pup tag's communications and GPS function off, Ben or Ryder had installed a failsafe to manually reactivate them. Switching on the GPS, Ben followed the signal to where Marshall was.
Marshall, on the other hand, was not having a good time. After taking a peaceful nap in his set up tent, and snacking on some of the pup treats he had brought with him, he got bored and started to chase some leaves. However, he had ended up getting lost… and then it started to thunderstorm outside. The plucky pup started to head into a nearby cave for shelter, but then loud growls erupted from the dark interior when he approached the entrance. Backing away, Marshall whimpered as he saw three black wolves and several sets of eyes, much more sinister looking than Alex.
"H-hey. Do you happen to be cousins of a friend of mine?" Marshall chuckled nervously as his knees started to knock together in fear. Licking their lips hungrily, one wolf leapt forward and Marshall blasted him with his water cannons to repel him before starting to run away. "HELP!" Marshall screamed.
All of a sudden, Ben in his Green Ranger suit leapt over Marshall and landed in front of him, drawing the sword from his belt. "Marshall, thank god I found you. Stay behind me." Ben sighed in relief. One of the wolves jumped at him and he kicked it away, stunning it. Another one dashed forward to bite him and he delivered a slash to its side, causing it to yelp and run away after his sword grazed the predator.
The third wolf growled and began to back away. Once all the wolves were in the cave, Ben turned around and gazed at Marshall. "Looks like I got here in the nick of time… Marshall, I know you're upset. But the next time that someone says that sort of stuff, come and tell me, okay?" Ben sighed, giving Marshall a pat on the head.
"I will! Don't worry. Thanks Ben… BEN, LOOK OUT!" Marshall answered, before screaming in horror as the two wolves that Ben had injured jumped out of the cave and bit down on Ben's legs, causing the human to yelp in pain and drop his morpher. It clattered onto the floor, pressing the clasp that opened it up. The chamber containing the meteor shard sprung open and exposed the powerful stone, removing Ben's connection to the shard and dematerializing the suit around him.
Ben attempted to put the shard back into his morpher, but only managed to grab the shard with his gloved hand before the wolves wrestled him to the ground. No longer protected by his armor, the teeth of the wolves dug into his skin, further intensifying the pain as they began to drag him away, while Ben's arm was outstretched, reaching for Marshall. "MARSHALL! CATCH!" Ben shouted, scared for both him and his pup, but offering one last word of advice and throwing the meteor shard to Marshall, with the shard landing at his feet.
"BEN! NO!" Marshall shrieked in terror.
Then Marshall realized something. If this stone that Ben tossed to him was a piece of the Mighty Meteor… and if it gave Ben powers… then he could get his powers back as well! If there was ever a time for him to reclaim his Mighty Pup abilities, it was now. Picking up the meteor piece and putting it into his pup tag, Marshall felt the surge of energy as his powers returned. "I'm fired up! The Blazing Heart, Mighty Pup Red!" Marshall yelled as he ran into the cave, his paws glowing and lighting up the darkness as they set themselves on fire.
A group of wolves were circling Ben, about to tear him apart, but Marshall slammed his paws down on the ground and created a heat wave of energy, blowing them all back. Running in front of Ben, the pup waved his front paws in the air, creating a blazing wall to separate him and his owner from the wolves and trap the predators behind the fire. Ben got to his knees and they began to run out of the cave, with Ben staggering out of the cavern due to his significant injuries. His pants legs were soaked with blood, and he nearly tumbled down the hill. Thankfully, the paramedic truck had the supplies to treat Ben's wounds. Wrapping him in several thick bandages, Ben groaned in pain as Marshall drove him to the hospital, radioing the rest of the group to come quickly. While he did this, he returned the Meteor shard to Ben's morpher, sighing as the alien energy left his body.
"Ben, why did you toss me the meteor piece? I could have lost it easily!" Marshall asked as they drove to the hospital.
Ben smiled weakly. "Isn't it obvious? I threw it to you because I had confidence that you would be able to save me with its power. There's no pup that I trust more to use their Mighty Powers responsibly." Ben answered.
Marshall was touched. Ben trusted him the most with the meteor and using its powers safely, even though he was the clumsiest of the group, and his power over fire and heat being one of the most potentially destructive?
At the hospital, the nurse gave the group a rundown of what Ben's injuries were. "Lucky for your friend, the wolf bites were superficial due to the armor he had been wearing. He lost a significant amount of blood, but the teeth only broke the surface, and while the gashes were quite lengthy, Marshall's bandages helped the cuts begin to heal. That means Ben won't need stitches." The nurse told them.
Rubble and the others started to cry as they tackled Marshall in a huge cuddle pile. "Marshall, I'm so sorry! We weren't even talking about you, we were talking about Apollo's archnemesis, and we didn't know you were outside and thought we were talking about you! We're so sorry!" Rubble wailed, assaulting Marshall with apologetic licks.
"Marshall, we never think you're useless, or anything! You do plenty of things right! You're the fastest fire pup, you're our brother. We care so much about you! I can't believe you would ever think that we wouldn't want you around!" Chase scolded.
"Marshall, me and Ella might not have known you for very long, but we think you're awesome!" Tuck added.
"Yeah, you're the coolest and cutest dalmatian ever! And we met quite a few of them back at the pound!" Ella continued.
"Yeah, you're silly and clumsy, but that's part of what makes you… you!" Rocky told him.
"We love you, Marshall." Skye affirmed as she nuzzled him.
"Yeah, dude! We'd be supew dupew upset if you left us!" Zuma agreed.
"Aww, you guys! Thanks!" Marshall giggled.
