Season 2 Episode 20: Pups Save Their Sick Siblings! Bronze, Gold, And Silver To The Rescue!
March 15th, 2030
Ryder groaned as he got out of bed. He felt worse than usual. Normally in the mornings, he felt fine. But today, he was feeling a little under the weather. He debated whether to call in sick, but he decided against it. Chase had been stuck with a puppy cold the past few days, and yesterday he finally had started to feel better.
Right now, Chase and Zuma were playing fetch with Rocky. The mixed breed was using his catapult to launch the ball. "On your mark, get set, GO!" Rocky called out as he launched the ball from his catapult.
"I got it!" Zuma yelled.
"No, I'VE got it!" Chase argued.
Chase started to close in on the ball, and then he sneezed. Zuma looked at the ball with an expression of disgust on his muzzle. "You got it." Zuma grumbled.
He didn't want to touch that! It was covered in Chase's germs now! "Excuse me… must be my allergies." Chase apologized.
"Nah, dude, I think you still got a cold." Zuma countered.
"I think Zuma's right. You were feeling better yesterday, but maybe that was because it went into remission." Rocky mused as he came up behind them.
Tuck and Ella were with Wild, watching from afar as they kept their distance. "You two have spent a lot of time with Chase these past two days, are you sick too?" Wild asked the twins.
"We got colds all the time when we lived at the pound!" Ella answered.
"Yeah, we've built up a bit of an immunity to them." Tuck mentioned.
"Well, I dunno about you, but I'm gonna stay away from those pups until they're feeling better. I don't wanna get sick myself." Wild mumbled.
All of a sudden, their pup tags went off. "PAW Patrol, to the Lookout!" Ryder exclaimed.
"Ryder's calling!" The pups all exclaimed.
Wild gulped as he went into the Lookout elevator with the group. Marshall and Rubble didn't look like they were feeling the greatest either. In fact, aside from Tuck and Ella… all of the pups looked a bit more worn out than usual. Marshall didn't even wipe out today. There wasn't as much squirming from the six of them as the elevator rose up and dressed them in their uniforms. When they reached the top of the elevator, they all lined up, with Wild taking his spot next to Tuck and Ella at the end of the line. "PAW Patrol, ready for action, Ryder, sir!" Chase exclaimed, though a hint of his usual vigor and fervor was absent from his voice.
"Thanks for hurrying over, pups. We need to round up some pigs." Ryder told them.
"Cornelius and Emma?" Rubble asked.
"Yep. Farmer Al's greedy goose chased them into the woods. He's afraid they'll fall in the creek. We can help fix up the fence and bring the pigs home. So, for this mission, I need Rocky to repair the fence so the pigs will stay in their sty, and I need Chase to use his megaphone and cones to help herd the pigs. We may also need your net to catch them." Ryder instructed.
"Green means go- achoo!" Rocky started to shout, but then sneezed.
"Chase is on the caaa- ack ack!" The German Shepherd began to roar, but got cut off by a cough.
"Hang on, Chase." Marshall told his buddy.
"Must be my allergies acting up." Chase mumbled.
"We'll know soon enough…" Marshall murmured as he barked his EMT thermometer out of his pup pack and stuck it in Chase's mouth. Then, after Chase sneezed out the thermometer, Marshall barked another one out of his pup pack and stuck it in Rocky's mouth. "Yup, your cold is back. And Rocky's caught it too." Marshall confirmed.
"Sorry, Chase. You need to take care of yourself. We'll have to manage this rescue without you. Zuma, I need you and your buoy. If Farmer Al's pigs end up in the creek, we'll need you to bring them to shore." Ryder told his pup, before resuming giving instructions out to the group.
"I'm ready to… achoo!" Zuma sneezed.
Marshall ran over and checked Zuma's temperature. "Oh no! Zuma's caught a cold too!" Marshall exclaimed worriedly.
"If I'm ill, I'd better chill." Zuma groaned.
"Okay, Skye. I'll need you to use your copter and goggles to find the missing pigs." Ryder then said.
"This pup's gotta- atchoo!" Skye yipped, but started to cough and hack during her catchphrase. "I guess I gotta stay here…" Skye grunted sadly.
"Marshall, I need you to take care of the sick pups and contact Ben to get him to come back as soon as possible. With so many of our team down for the count due to their colds, we're going to need all of the hands and paws that we can get. Rubble, since you've been playing a lot with all of the others, I'm quarantining you with the rest of them. That leaves our three remaining members." Ryder instructed, before turning to Tuck, Ella, and Wild.
"Tuck, Ella, I'm equipping you with Rocky and Chase's pup packs. Tuck, you're the smartest pup we have left. I need you to fix up the fence with Farmer Al. Ella and Wild, you two will help me and Farmer Farmer Yumi track down the pigs. All right! Paw Patrol is on a roll!" Ryder told them, before taking the slide to his ATV. Once he was out of earshot, he coughed a couple of times. He could take the time to feel sick after Ben got back.
Tuck and Ella took on the slide, while Wild ran down it with his cheetah speed. Once they were on their bikes, the three animals rode out with Ryder to the farm. Meanwhile, Marshall called Ben. The eighteen year old picked up almost immediately, and his expression grew concerned when he saw the five pups lying down with sad expressions on their faces. "Marshall, what's happened?!" Ben asked worriedly.
"Our team is coming down with a cold! Tuck and Ella seem to be immune, so they're with Wild and are out on a rescue to get the pigs back to their pen at Farmer Yumi and Al's, but we're going to be out of commission for a few days. Sorry Ben, but we need you and Alex back here in Adventure Bay!" Marshall explained.
"Darn it. Okay Marshall, we'll be there soon." Ben promised as the call ended.
"Hiya Ryder. Thanks for coming!" Farmer Al gratefully said as the group arrived at the farm.
"Happy to help, Al. Wild, Ella, see if you can sniff out the two pigs. I'll help Tuck fix the fence." Ryder ordered.
"I got some spare wood in the barn that we can use to fix up the fence." Farmer Al offered.
He took Tuck inside the barn, and Ryder wiped some sweat off of his forehead. He felt cold and clammy, even though it was a warm spring day. "Okay, so the nail should go here… and I should use my rivet gun here…" Tuck said to himself, verbalizing his thoughts as he worked on fixing up the fence.
Screwing in the new wooden boards, he focused and concentrated on getting the task done at hand. "All right, great job Tuck! Now that the fence is fixed, let's help your sister and Wild look for the pigs!" Ryder cheered.
Almost as if on cue, Ella's barks could be heard as she and Wild chased the two pigs back to the barn. "Wow, is this what it's like to be a herding dog? This is kinda fun! Ruff ruff ruff!" Wild giggled as he barked like a dog, making Ryder laugh as he and Ella made the pigs leap over the fence and back into the pen.
Farmer Yumi panted as she came up behind Ella with a smile on her face, laughing like crazy. "Darn it, if that isn't the funniest thing I've seen since Farmer Al's piggy patterned underwear!" The woman giggled, extremely amused by Wild acting like a dog.
Ella flopped into the dirt, kicking her legs into the air and laughing herself. "Yeah, that was really funny!" Ella agreed.
Even Tuck started to laugh, and the giggling was contagious. Ryder quickly succumbed and started to laugh with them. He laughed so hard that he began to cough like crazy. His hacking and gagging got everyone worried. "Oh no… Ryder, you're sick too!? Why didn't you tell us!?" Tuck gasped.
"I… didn't want to worry you guys…" Ryder answered, coughing in between his words.
"Meow-wow, that sounds really bad! Ryder, what happened to that promise you made about being honest with your feelings to us?" Wild wondered.
"I thought that was about my mental state and emotions!" Ryder protested.
"Nuh uh, it wasn't just about that!" Ella argued.
"Yeah, it was about your physical health too!" Tuck pointed out.
Ryder grumbled to himself as he got on his ATV and was escorted home to the Lookout by the twins and Wild. When Ryder parked his ATV outside the Lookout garage, he felt tired, stiff, and exhausted of energy. I must be sicker than I initially thought I was… Ryder thought to himself. He simply sat at his ATV, trying to muster up the energy and willpower to dismount his vehicle. Ella ran inside and grabbed Katie.
The seventeen year old veterinarian giggled as she walked up to her friend, and gazed into his eyes. Ryder felt a smile spread across his face even though he was tired as hell. "Ryder, you know you shouldn't overwork yourself when you're sick!" Katie lightly scolded as she helped him off of his bike. Ryder leaned on her for support as the two stumbled into the Lookout lobby.
"You're lucky that I made tons of chicken noodle soup for the pups, and it's the exact same recipe for both pups and humans. I'll fix you a nice bowl of it. Wild, Ella, and Tuck will stay outside for now to not get sick. Don't worry, Ryder. I'm here to help all of you. The pups told me a lot about what you had kept from them…" Katie chuckled.
Ryder was too tired to argue as she placed his hands in her lap and gently held them herself.
"Don't feel pressured to keep this sort of thing from me, Ryder. I really care about you. You're one of my best friends! I'll always support you no matter what." Katie assured him.
"Thanks, Katie." Ryder sighed happily. He felt more at peace with the world now that Katie was there to support him. Ben and Alex would be back soon as well.
