Season 2 Episode 21: Pups Save An Eagle! Skye Faces Her Fear!
March 22nd, 2030
Everyone had healed up from their cold. Ben had arrived later that day to see all of the six original pups cuddled up with Ryder as he slept on the floor in a sleeping bag, with Katie watching over them. Ben had noticed some changes in Ryder since he had gone to Adventure City.
For starters, Ryder was more open with his emotions and more honest. He wasn't as afraid to voice if he didn't like something, or if he was upset. He also seemed… happier. And not that fake happiness he usually exerted. He was genuinely happier. Perhaps an invisible burden of some sort had been lifted from his shoulders after he told the rest of the PAW Patrol about his troubles.
Similarly, Ben also came clean himself. He told Ryder the real reason why he had gone to Adventure City: to investigate Mayor Humdinger running for office there. "I would have told you sooner, but I did not want to distract you from your duties here in Adventure Bay. Besides, if I had told you in front of the other pups, Chase might have gotten upset. We both know how touchy he is regarding Adventure City." Ben explained.
"I understand, but don't keep something like this from me again. Okay Ben?" Ryder asked.
"Got it." Ben had promised.
Right now, Ben was watching Skye trampoline while Marshall, Rubble, Zuma, and Chase held the trampoline cloth. All of a sudden, Ryder called the pups on their pup tags. "PAW Patrol, to the Lookout!" Ryder exclaimed, his voice filled with excitement.
This was their first rescue in over a week. Ben grinned at this. The pups and Ryder had nearly gone stir crazy from being cooped up inside the Lookout for so long. Now it was time for them to get back to work!
The pups dropped the cloth and started to run to the Lookout elevator, with Ben quickly catching Marshall and carrying him into the elevator. Tuck, Ella, and Wild came into the elevator too with Alex in tow. The lift then started to ascend, pausing at the halfway point to dress everyone in their gear before raising up to the control room.
Everyone stepped out of the elevator and lined up in front of Ryder. "PAW Patrol, ready for action, Ryder, sir!" Chase exclaimed.
"Thanks for coming so quickly, pups. Chickaletta needs our help. She's in a backpack hanging from a branch on the side of a cliff and there's an eagle close by. We've got to get her down before that branch breaks." Ryder instructed.
"That eagle could be dangerous to small flying creatures like Chickaletta. And me!" Skye whimpered.
Ben patted the cockapoo on her head and gave her some chin scratches as Ace came up from the ground floor. She was about to say something, but she kept her mouth shut as they were in the middle of a mission briefing. "Don't worry, Skye. For this rescue, we won't need air support unless the situation changes. Chase, I need you and your winch to pull Chickaletta up to the top of the cliff. Marshall, I need you below with your truck and ladder in case Chickaletta falls." Ryder instructed.
"Chase is on this case!" The German Shepherd roared.
"I'm ready for a ruff ruff rescue!" Marshall cheered.
"PAW Patrol is on a roll!" Ryder declared as he slid down the fire pole to the garage while Chase and Marshall slid down the slide to their vehicles.
Meanwhile, Ben and Ace were trying to calm Skye down. "Shh, it's okay. That eagle is all the way over there, it can't hurt you!" Ben reassured Skye.
"Okay, Marshall, take the road down below the cliff. Chase and I will head up to Mayor Goodway." Ryder told the dalmatian as they split up. As they took the road to get to Mayor Goodway, they heard the eagle's shrill shriek as they passed by it. "That eagle doesn't sound very happy." Ryder remarked.
"Good thing Skye's not here. Hearing that eagle wouldn't make her happy either." Chase murmured.
He knew first paw how bad Skye's experiences with eagles had been in the past. Rocky, Zuma, Rubble, and the other more recent recruits didn't understand her fear of eagles as well as Ryder, Ben, Chase, and Marshall. How could they? They weren't there when they had to rescue Skye. The poor cockapoo had gotten snatched up by one and taken to its nest, where she had to hold onto a branch for dear life as Marshall pelted the eagle with his water cannons and drove it off.
"Chase, Ryder! Hurry, my poor chicken will panic if she wakes up and sees that she's dangling in a situation like this!" Mayor Goodway exclaimed.
"Don't worry, the Paw Patrol is here. Chase, lower your winch. We'll hook the backpack to make sure it doesn't fall." Ryder reassured the mayor, before giving Chase commands on what to do.
"Got it! RUFF! Winch!" Chase barked, the hook emerging from his police cruiser and dangling over Chickaletta.
The purse pet then woke up and started to peck at the winch hook like crazy. "Okay Marshall. Climb up to Chickaletta and secure the backpack to the winch line." Ryder told the firefighter.
Marshall hopped on his ladder and rode it up to the branch that the bag was dangling from. Grabbing the winch with his mouth, he secured it around the strap of the backpack. "Chase, it's all hooked up! You can pull her up now!" Marshall yelled to his brother.
"UP!" Chase roared, and the backpack was drawn up through the air.
Chickaletta hopped out of the bag and onto Marshall's helmet, causing him to fall down his ladder. "I'm okay! The chicken has landed!" Marshall cried out, giving Ryder his own version of a thumbs up to let him know he was all right.
Marshall drove Chickaletta back up to the mayor as Ryder saw the eagle struggling and making out several distressed cries. "That eagle doesn't seem very happy… maybe I should take a closer look." Ryder mused as he grabbed his pup pad and used the camera function to zoom in on the eagle. Ryder frowned as he saw the eagle was tangled in twine. "Uh-oh, pups. We've got another problem. The mother eagle got tangled in twine and is now caught in her nest. We need a pup to get up here and free the mom." Ryder mumbled.
"She's not going to like it…" Chase said worriedly. "I know, but that eagle needs Skye's help, and Skye is the only one who can get up there." Ryder sighed.
Back at the Lookout, the pups were playing with Ben and Ace when Ryder contacted them. "Skye, we need your help. An eagle's gotten tangled up in twine, and you're the only one who can fly up there and free her." Ryder announced.
Skye whimpered and shivered at the thought of having to get up close to the eagle. "O-okay…" Skye whined.
Ben and Ace put their hands on Skye's head. "Don't worry, Skye." Ben comforted her.
"Yeah! We're going to support you every step of the way!" Ace added.
"We know you can do it, Skye!" Tuck and Ella encouraged.
"My big sister can handle a dumb old eagle! I know that my big sister can do anything!" Alex cheered.
"Yeah, dude! I believe in you, Skye!" Zuma howled.
"GO GO GO SKYE!" Rocky yelled.
Hearing all of them voice their support for her, and give her encouragement… it filled the cockapoo with new resolve. Strapping her goggles to her head, she nodded as a more confident smile appeared on her muzzle. "Okay, I'll do it! Arf arf! Wings!" Skye yipped, before she took to the air.
Soaring through the air, she looped around the lookout. Everyone ran to the Lookout and cheered as she flew to the cliff where the mother eagle was. They kept giving her words of endearment and motivation. Her goggles zoomed in on the eagle's nest and she saw the twine. "I see it! She's snagged on the nest! I'll handle this. Hopefully, she doesn't try to make me her next meal." Skye shouted as she tried landing on the rocky outcropping the nest was perched on.
"Careful, Skye!" Chase screamed as the eagle tried to poke her with its beak. Skye then landed on the stone perch, but the eagle shrieked and went again at her. Skye squeaked in fear, nearly emptying her bladder out of sheer terror then and there. Chase growled and ran to his police vehicle, transforming it into spy mode. "HEY! YOU LEAVE MY MATE ALONE, YOU HEAR ME, YOU STUPID BIRD?! SHE'S ONLY TRYING TO HELP YOU!" Chase snarled as he piloted the drone and flew it into the eagle's face, diverting the eagle's attention and allowing Skye to chomp through the twine that was binding it to the nest.
Quickly, Skye flew away, panting and shaking as she landed next to Chase, the drone returning to the cruiser. The eagle then flew down and tried to catch Skye, but Chase leapt in front of her and hissed. His primal, protective instincts flared up as that nasty avian predator swooped in to try and take his loved one away. "LEAVE! HER! ALONE!" Chase bellowed, foaming at the mouth and gnashing his teeth together threateningly. Understanding that this small female dog was not to be messed with and under the protection of this slightly larger pup, the eagle landed on the ground and bowed to Chase respectfully before flying back to its nest.
"Chase…!" Skye squealed, and gave him a kiss on the muzzle, much to Chase's surprise.
"S-Skye?" Chase yelped as he was given a smooch. Skye batted her eyelashes at him happily.
"You were willing to tussle with an eagle just to save me! That's so romantic! I love you so much!" Skye happily said.
Chase stammered and started to sweat, his cheeks turning red as he realized he couldn't get out of this one. "W-wait, you… you love me? Not in a sisterly sort of way?" Chase asked.
Skye's head bobbed up and down in confirmation. "Yup! I have for a long time now… I really realized it when I was asked by Ace to leave you and the other Paw Patrol members. I think you like me the same way… don't you?" Skye replied.
Chase's puppy cheeks reddened and he too nodded his head. "Y-yeah… I love you too Skye… I was wanting to… Ben called it 'ask you out on a date'. Would you um… wanna do that?" The German Shepherd abashedly said.
Skye gave him another affectionate nuzzle. "I'd love to, Chase! How about tonight?" Skye suggested.
"Sure!" Chase exclaimed, his tail wagging like crazy.
Jubilant cries of excitement and joy were heard over the comms. "ATTABOY, CHASE! I KNEW YOU WOULD ADMIT IT EVENTUALLY!" Ben cheered.
"WOOHOO, SKYE! YOU FINALLY TOLD CHASE!" Ace whooped.
Skye and Chase blushed as they realized their confessions had been broadcasted to the rest of the Paw Patrol. They might get teased a ton over the next few weeks, but it would be worth it as long as they had each other.
Time to respond to some reviews!
To Actionfan:
-Alex's pup tag is a electrical cord with the symbol of a lightning bolt on it. His Mighty Pup Tag is a storm cloud with a lightning bolt on it.
-Liberty is not a temporary member, she is an official member. Ryder and the others know about her as of this chapter, but they have yet to meet her. She'll become fully deputized as a member in the movie, though.
To Jamesfan51:
-Pups Save Jake is not on the docket for being adapted. Many of the traditional rescue episodes are being skipped in lieu of the subseries.
