Season 4 Episode 1: ZUMA'S BIRTHDAY AND THE BIRTH OF THE SEA PATROL!

June 3rd, 2030

Zuma woke up, seeing that Rocky was not in his puphouse with him. All of a sudden, he remembered what today was. Adventure Bay Beach Day… AND his birthday! He ran inside the Lookout, where everyone jumped out and cheered. "HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR ZUMA… HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!" Ben, Ryder, Chase, Marshall, Skye, Rocky, Rubble, Everest, Tracker, Ace, and Katie all shouted out.

"DUDES! You got the stuff ready already!? It's only like, eight in the morning!" Zuma gasped.

"I woke everyone up a few hours earlier to make sure everything was perfect for you, Zoom." Rocky chuckled sheepishly. The chocolate labrador walked over and planted a kiss on Rocky's nose, causing him to turn into a werepuppy again. "Zuma!" Rocky giggled.

"You're so sweet, Wocky." Zuma teased.

"Come on, Zuma, open your presents!" Ben encouraged the orange sea pup.

Zuma ran over to the pile of wrapped boxes and grinned as he pointed to the biggest one. Climbing on top, he saw a sticky note placed on top of the ribbon. "Dear Zuma, Ben told us all about the missions that you might be going on this summer! We decided to pitch in and not only make you something, but also stuff for the whole team! Hope you and the other seven pups like what we knitted for you! From Wild, Shade, Leo, and Rory." Zuma read. This got him all excited and he tore open the box with all his puppy might, discovering that the box contained yarn hats and vests color coded for each and every member of the Adventure Bay Paw Patrol. "No way! The Cat Pack made all of us sweaters and hats! AWESOME!" Zuma cheered.

"Aww, that's so sweet!" Skye giggled.

The next present was a lot smaller, but it smelled jungle-like and exotic. "Dear Zuma! I'd attend this party if I could, but the dinosaur duties here on Earth-2 are keeping me, Koda, Tammy, Taylor, and the others really busy! Still, I couldn't miss your birthday, so I sent you something to remember me by! From your paleontologist pal, Rex." Zuma spoke, reading the dinosaur patterned birthday card before opening up his present to see that it was a plesiosaur keychain and a spinosaurus plushie. "EPIC! A plushie and a souvenir!" Zuma exclaimed.

Tuck, Ella, Liberty, and Alex had gotten Zuma multiple bags of his favorite flavor of pup kibble as a present. Tracker had gotten a new beach towel, Everest had gifted a new pair of sunglasses, Skye had gotten Zuma a fidget spinner (which he was transfixed by), Rubble had gotten him some pepperoni chews, Chase gave Zuma a beach towel as a present, and Marshall gave Zuma a book on sea biology (much to the young pup's delight). Now the last present remaining was Rocky's. "I worked really hard on this one, it's a special invention." Rocky told him.

Opening the present up, Zuma saw that it was a strange pair of pup size sneakers. "What are these, Wocky?" Zuma asked.

"Ski-kers! Ski sneakers! They're like ice skates, except for water! Worked with my physics professor in Griffin Rock to make these for you. His name is Doc Greene. He came up with the original idea and model. He showed them to us during one of his lectures, and it inspired me! I asked him if he could email me the blueprints for them, and explained to him that I wanted to make a pup sized version of them." Rocky explained.

Zuma gasped as he kind of flew around with the ski-kers, taking them off quickly. "I think I'll try them out later, dude. Woah…" Zuma chuckled. "Wait, Ben, Ryder, where are your presents?" Zuma questioned.

Ben and Ryder shared a cheeky grin with each other before turning to look at Zuma. "Come on, pups! To the Beach Lookout!" Ben cried out.

The pups all got in their vehicles and drove on down to the beach, where they saw Mayor Goodway, Katie, and others setting up for an event of some sort. As they entered the Beach Lookout, the pups were all dressed in brand new gear. "Woah, epic sailing gear, Ryder!" Zuma exclaimed.

"This is only the start of your present!" Ben excitedly told the now six year old pup.

Zuma gasped at that. "This year, Mayor Goodway is asking us to be Adventure Bay's lifeguard team. Then, me and Ryder got to thinking. There's an entire ocean out there to help. And Zuma loves the ocean and everything that lives underwater. So we've made the Sea Lookout, and the Sea Patroller!" Ryder explained.

"Cool, but um… how is that a present?" Zuma wondered.

"As we grow older, we each take on new responsibilities. And although you may be the youngest, Zuma, you've proven yourself time and time again to be capable of looking out for yourself and the rest of the Paw Patrol. When we become the Sea Patrol, YOU are going to lead!" Ryder continued.

Zuma's eyes widened as he comprehended what this meant. "I… get to be… the LEADER?!" Zuma squealed.

Ben nodded his head. "You'll be the one guiding us at sea and leading the missions along with me and Ryder. You're our Pup Captain!" Ben happily said.

"YES! YES! YES! This is a dream come true!" Zuma cheered.

"Before you can save anyone, though, you all have to earn your lifeguard badges!" Ryder then announced.

"Lifeguard badges?" Everest asked.

"Yup! Lifeguards are the people who watch over the swimmers." Zuma answered.

"Right you are, birthday pup. Lifeguards are in charge of keeping everyone safe on the beach and in the water. And if someone does get in trouble, it's up to them, or in this case, it's up to us to rescue them quickly." Ben revealed.

Ben led the eight pups out to the beach as Ryder set up a training exercise for them. "Pups, it's time for you to earn those badges. You need to save that guy out there, Mr. Prickly!" Ryder exclaimed, pointing out to the ocean at a floating pineapple across several buoys.

"Guy?! That's a pineapple!" Marshall pointed out.

Ben chuckled at Marshall's blunt observation. "That's why he's called Mr. Prickly. To earn your lifeguard badge, you gotta save him before the timer on this pup pad starts to go off." Ben said.

The pups all howled in excitement. Even Rocky seemed excited, though that might have been because he was right up against Zuma. "Okay, Chase, you're first. Race through the markers to Mr. Prickly, then put him in your rescue buoy and bring him back here." Ryder instructed.

"I'll bring that pineapple head back before he even has a chance to yelp for help!" Chase confidently barked out.

Ryder started the timer as the German Shepherd swam out to the pineapple, securing it in the buoy and dragging him back to shore. This process repeated itself until Rocky was the only one who hadn't gone and rescued Mr. Prickly. Everest and Tracker had managed to get their lifeguard badges as well, despite not having much experience swimming before. "Rocky, you're the last one left. Ready to get wet?" Ryder asked the mixed breed.

"...Do I really have to, Ryder? You know I'm a good swimmer." Rocky sighed.

"If you're gonna get your lifeguard badge, then you gotta get the pineapple and bring him back to shore in time." Ryder firmly said with a smile on his face.

Rocky dissected the words of Ryder and a sly smile spread across his face. "I just gotta bring him back…?" Rocky smirked.

Ryder nodded as he started the timer. "GO!" Ryder yelled.

Rocky dashed forward and made daring leaps from marker to marker, reaching the last one and deploying his rescue buoy to secure Mr. Prickly. Leaping back across the markers, he landed on the beach and held his chest out in pride as Ryder stopped the timer. "An effective rescue technique! Using the environment to your advantage. I say you've earned your lifeguard badge, Rocky." Ben chuckled as he pinned the anchor badge to Rocky's Sea Patrol pup pack.

"I dunno, Ben. Being a lifeguard requires swimming." Ryder mused.

"I can get wet when the situation calls for it! But I don't want to get wet unless I have to. Werepuppy fur takes a lot longer to dry off than regular fur." Rocky argued.

Zuma gave Rocky a pleading look. "Please, Wocky? Can you do it again?" Zuma begged. The green recycling pup hesitated for a minute. "I'll help you dry off!" The chocolate labrador added as an incentive.

Rocky sighed as he relented. "Okay… only because you're the one that's asking." Rocky grumbled. Ryder nodded as he threw the pineapple back out to the sea, this time far enough so that Rocky couldn't use the markers to get all the way to the pineapple without getting wet. Rocky once again leapt across the markers, but at the last one, he jumped into the water and swam to the point where his buoy could snag the pineapple, and then swam back to shore. "Ugh… yuck. Zuma, you said you'd help me dry off?" Rocky groaned, his fur dripping water.

His mate giggled as he went over to his hovercraft and drove it to Rocky, turning it around and using the high powered fans on the back of his vehicle to blow dry the wet werepup. Anything that wasn't underneath his hat or his life guard floating vest poofed up to insane proportions, causing the rest of the pups and humans present to giggle at the very floofy canine. "You just wanted to see me like this, didn't you?" Rocky teased.

"What can I say, dude? You look really handsome like that." Zuma giggled.

Rocky blushed as he received that compliment. Ben then looked at his watch and gasped as he saw what time it was. It was around eleven in the morning, and that meant the Adventure Bay Beach Day Luau was starting! "Come on, pups. Lunch time will be starting soon at the beach, and Genevieve won't want to start without us!" Ben reminded the eight pups.

Tracker and Rubble's stomachs growled. "I certainly could use a bite to eat!" Rubble remarked.

"¿Almuerzo? That sounds muy fantástico if you ask me! Let's go!" Tracker agreed, licking his lips in anticipation of the meal.

They quickly ran back to the beach, where there were several tables set up and lined with plenty of food. "Sorry that we're late! We were doing some lifeguard training exercises with the pups." Ben apologized to the crowd of people.

"That's okay! I was afraid I'd have to start doing some motorcycle stunts to distract everyone from their growling stomachs!" Gasket chuckled as she got off of her motorbike.

"Mayor Momway, can we eat now?" Dwayne begged.

Chickaletta bawked in agreement with the mayor's two other pets. "Oh, you three! Of course we can start. Dig in, everyone! And let's all wish Zuma a happy birthday!" Mayor Goodway announced, and the crowd of people cheered as they started to chow down on the food, giving well wishes to the orange ocean loving pup as he waddled down the beach sand and started to snack.

There were several different varieties of fruit, sushi, fish, vegetables, you name it. Ben wasn't too hungry, though, so he stayed back and took an incoming call as the rest of the Rescue Force ate their share of the luau feast. "Ben!" Horatio Turbot urgently said.

"Hey Captain Turbot! You're missing Zuma's birthday party, and the Adventure Bay Beach Day Luau!" Ben greeted the seasoned sailor.

"I'm afraid I have more pressing problems! Look! Terrible tentacles are taking my tug!" Captain Turbot shouted anxiously, turning his camera to show pink tentacles attacking the Flounder.

"Oh no! Well, don't worry! We'll get you and your boat out of the clutches of whatever is attacking. As Ryder would say: no sea monster is too big, and no pup is too small!" Ben reassured the marine biologist. "Sea Patrol! To The Beach Lookout!" Ben shouted.

Ryder quickly scarfed down the rest of the pineapple piece he was eating and wiped his mouth off. "You all keep enjoying the luau! Duty calls!" Ryder called out to the crowd as he and the pups ran towards their coastside base of operations.

"Bye Ryder!" Dwayne and Gasket replied.

"Stay safe out there! Don't get overheated! Be careful!" Genevieve Goodway yelped to Ryder.

The spiky haired teenager chuckled at her concern. "Don't worry, 'Mayor Momway', I'll be fine!" Ryder laughed, turning around and giving her a thumbs up as he ran to the beach tower with his pups.

Entering the elevator, all of the pups and both humans were dressed in their Sea Patrol gear as the elevator ascended to the Beach Tower Control Room. Chase, Marshall, Skye, Rocky, Rubble, Zuma, Everest, and Tracker all lined up in front of Ben and Ryder. "Sea Patrol ready for action, Captain Ryder, sir!" Zuma and Chase both declared.

The two of them looked at each other and giggled. Chase gave Zuma a nod of acknowledgement, signifying that he was ready to share leadership with Zuma while they were at sea. "Thanks for coming so quickly, everyone. Captain Turbot has gotten himself in a bit of a bind! Tentacles have seized the Flounder!" Ben revealed, beginning the mission briefing.

"Dude, what in the world is that thing?!" Zuma gasped.

"S-Sea monster!" Rubble squealed in fear.

"Pfft. Dude, there's no such thing as sea monsters." Zuma scoffed.

"Yes there are! I was the great pirate Captain Blackfur, remember!? I've encountered sea monsters like that before when me and my crew were sailing the ocean!" Rubble argued.

Everyone else whimpered except for Zuma. "You think it's a monster, but it's probably just some ocean critter that you're unfamiliar with, dude!" Zuma countered.

Ben clapped his hands together, drawing the attention of the pups back to him. "Monster or not, Captain Turbot needs our help. Those tentacles could easily sink the Flounder if we don't do something soon. Ryder and I have created new vehicles for you to operate that are designed to travel both on the water's surface and underneath it." Ben sternly said, resuming his mission briefing.

"For this mission, I'll need the following pups. Zuma, I need you to use your new boat with its grabber arms to pull the tentacles off the Flounder. Rubble, your construction boat's crane will help pluck Horatio off of the boat. Tracker, you'll be going underwater and using your radar, thermal vision, and your naturally excellent hearing to try and identify whatever is attached to those tentacles. Marshall, when the sea creature stops attacking the Flounder, we'll need you to airlift it out. Rocky, you'll be with us on standby in case we need you to help fix it. Everest, Chase, Skye, the three of you are on lifeguard duty. Make sure that everyone is safely out of the water until we take care of the sea creature. Rocky, you're on standby in case anything happens." Ryder ordered.

"Ready, set, get wet!" Zuma cheered.

"Let's take to the sea!" Skye yipped, doing a backflip.

"Chase is on this lifeguarding case!" The German Shepherd exclaimed.

"I'm ready for a deep sea rescue!" Marshall shouted.

"Rubble's ready for ocean trouble!" The Bulldog growled.

"I'm ready to see what's in the sea!" Everest cried out.

"I'll get wet if necessary!" Rocky howled.

"¡En el océano! Let's set sail!" Tracker barked.

"SEA PATROL… SAIL TO THE RESCUE!" Ryder and Ben proclaimed together as the Beach Tower deployed the Sea Patroller, their tower launching a massive boat.

"Oh thank goodness! It's the Paw Patrol, and they're in a super slick new ship!" Captain Turbot sighed in relief as he saw the Sea Patroller approach his boat.

"Captain Turbot, we're here to save you!" Ryder shouted. "Zuma, Tracker, Sea Patrol! Let's go!" Ben ordered. Zuma and Rubble launched in their boats, while Tracker dove under the water.

All of a sudden, tentacles came and grabbed the Sea Patroller, keeping it stuck in place! "Give me the word, Ryder, and I'll slice these things off and show whatever this thing is not to mess with Adventure Bay!" Ben roared, his hand going to the curved blade that he kept on his belt.

"That's a negative, Ben! Stand down! We don't know the intentions of the sea creature, or what the sea creature even is!" Ryder commanded.

Ben gritted his teeth, unwilling to disobey the order. He respected his best friend too much to brazenly disregard his request like that, especially when the spiky haired teenager was right. They didn't know what this thing was, or what it wanted. For all they knew, cutting into the tentacles could release acidic blood that would destroy the Sea Patroller and ruin months of work. "Dudes, don't worry! I'll get the Sea Patroller! Rubble, you handle Captain Turbot and the Flounder!" Zuma commanded.

Rubble nodded his head. "Right!" The former pirate growled in agreement, driving his boat to get the captain while Zuma began to tickle the tentacles with the gripper hand claws of his submarine.

One tentacle retreated into the water, but another one sprouted up and grabbed the Sea Patroller. "Tracker, dude, how's it coming with identifying the sea creature?" Zuma worriedly asked.

"¡Un momento… yo lo veo! I have a visual! Ryder, Ben, you should be able to see it on your pup pad!" Tracker announced over their communications.

Ben quickly pulled out his pup pad to see that the shape of a massive octopus was in Tracker's sights. "Tracker, get out of there! Everyone cover your ears, I'm going to blow the horn!" Ben warned.

Ryder, Captain Turbot, Tracker, Rocky, Zuma, and Rubble all pressed their hands and paws to their ears as Ben blared the horn, which drove the giant octopus away into the ocean depths. When the horn was done blowing, Rubble used the crane on his boat to grab Captain Turbot and lift him off of the sinking Flounder. "Rubble, let's get Captain Turbot back to the beach. He looks like he could use a meal. Don't worry Cap, Ryder and the others will get your boat back from the ocean!" Zuma reassured him, driving his boat-sub with Rubble and their rescued sailor back to the Adventure Bay Beach Day Luau party.

"Do you need me to help lift the Flounder off of the ocean floor, Ben and Ryder?" Rocky asked.

"Let's ask our potcake pal. Tracker, give us an update on the Flounder?" Ben inquired.

"¡Está bien! The ship seems to be okay, it just needs a way to get lifted up to the surface!" Tracker reported.

"I don't think we need you just yet, Rocky. Marshall, you're the perfect candidate to help raise it from the ocean floor. Your Sea Patrol gear is equipped with an air hose designed specifically for lifting sunken ships." Ryder remarked.

"I'm ready for a blub-blub rescue!" Marshall giggled, activating his scuba gear and diving into the ocean.

He swam to the bottom of the sea, waving hi to Tracker before pumping the ship full of air. As the ship raised itself to the surface, Tracker saw something glint in the undersea sand, and swam down to get it. "¿Qué es esto? A lost treasure! Some sort of baby toy, it looks like!" Tracker mused, picking up the shiny object and seeing that it was a seashell baby rattle, taking it with him as he and Marshall returned to the Sea Patroller.

Meanwhile, back at the Adventure Bay Beach Day Luau, Captain Turbot was feasting away his sorrows from the loss of his beloved boat, even if it was only temporary. Rubble, Skye, and Everest were sitting in their life guard chairs, with Rubble having taken Chase's spot. The police pup saw Alexander Porter in the water, with Julia and Julius Goodway about to get in. "Julius, Julia, get out of the water! Alex, you come in too!" Chase yelled.

All of a sudden, the tentacles that they had seen gripping the Flounder appeared, and one of them grabbed Alex! A massive purplish-pink head studied the young six year old boy and his surf board, before dropping him and pushing him back to shore. Chase breathed a sigh of relief as the octopus didn't harm him. It kept coming closer to shore, though, and it started to pick up the beach chairs and the umbrellas! Mayor Goodway ran over to the life guard pups, looking frantic. "Life guards, we need your help!" Genevieve shouted anxiously. "Oh no! That octopus is absolutely gigantic!" Skye gasped. "This wasn't covered in lifeguard training! What do we do!?" Everest asked. "HARD TURN TO STARBOARD! CREW, IT'S TIME TO DRAW YER SWORDS FROM THEIR SCABBARDS AND LOAD THE CANNONS! LET'S SHOW THIS OCTOPUS WHY YOU SHOULDN'T MESS WITH THE JOVIAL DEVOURER!" Rubble suddenly snarled, which startled Skye, Everest, and the mayor. The silence that followed made Rubble blush and chuckle sheepishly. "Sorry, that was my time as Captain Blackfur talking there. What I meant to suggest was… uh… call Ryder?" Rubble nervously suggested.

Ryder then got a call from Rubble on the Pup Pad. "Hey Rubble! Everyone having fun at the beach luau?" Ryder inquired. "No! The only one having any fun is that... that thing!" Rubble frantically yelled, switching his pup tag's camera so that it showed the giant octopus from earlier picking up people and objects before setting them back down. "Oh no! We gotta get back to the beach!" Rocky exclaimed. "Robo-Dog, set sail for Adventure Bay! We have to help everyone!" Ryder commanded.

Zuma wasn't going to wait for the rest of the group to get back to the beach, however. They needed to take action now, and he wasn't going to take no for an answer! "Skye, Everest, you think you can distract that octopus and get it to release our friends?" Zuma proposed.

The cockapoo and husky nodded their heads in agreement, with Skye flying around the octopus and attempting to draw its attention while Everest hurled ice cubes from her pup pack at it. However, the octopus paid them little mind, instead taking deep looks at the people and objects that it had in its clutches before gently setting them down.

"How will we ever stop that ferocious, rampaging beast?" Mayor Goodway fretted.

Zuma shook his head no. "I don't think it's ferocious, it isn't hurting anybody. Look at how it's squinting! It can't see very well, but it's trying to look for something!" Zuma pointed out.

Indeed, the octopus was not acting aggressive or anything. "Or maybe it's looking for someone, my puppy pal! A little help?" Captain Turbot asked, pointing to his head, which had a baby octopus on it.

Zuma gasped as everything clicked. Years of listening to Captain Turbot's marine biology lectures paid off. "The giant octopus must be looking for her baby! That's why she followed us to shore!" Zuma exclaimed.

"An excellent theory! But as you can see, this kiddo here has become quite attached to me! The baby won't budge at all! I've tried my hardest to extract her from my hair, but I can't manage to do it! We need to lure the baby off of me somehow. It's gorged itself on our feast, so we can't coax it with food. We need something else…" Captain Turbot mused.

"Like a toy?" Chase piped up.

The sailor's eyes lit up and he nodded at that. "Precisely! A toy! That would be the perfect item to lure the baby off of my head!" Captain Turbot exclaimed.

Zuma called the Sea Patroller to inform them of their findings.

"Zuma, what's up?" Ben inquired as he took the call from Zuma.

They were approaching the dock, and ready to get moving and take care of the octopus.

"Do you have a toy or something!? We need to coax this little dude off of Cap'n Turbot's head! The giant octopus is looking for the dude, it's her baby!" Zuma quickly explained.

"Oh?! Tracker and Marshall found something on the ocean floor that might be helpful. Marshall, bring it over!" Ben called out.

The Dalmatian grabbed the old shell key in his mouth and started to run over to Ben, but slipped on a puddle of water and accidentally dropped the key, sending it flying and over the edge of the Sea Patroller. "Oh no! ¡Eso no es bueno! How are we going to find it now!?" Tracker gasped in horror.

"I'll go and get it from the ocean floor!" Rocky volunteered. "But Rocky, that means you'll-!" Ryder started to say.

"Get wet? Yeah, I know, but you guys need me! If getting wet will help that baby octopus get back to his mom, I can do it! My metal detector can find that old rattle, it was made from an old key!" Rocky argued.

Ryder hesitated before nodding his head. "Go then. Just be careful, okay?" Ryder sighed.

Rocky nodded his head in confirmation. "Don't worry, Ryder! I will!" Rocky promised before donning his scuba gear and leaping into the ocean.

Using his metal detector, he was able to locate the seashell key and brought it back to the surface, luring the baby octopus back to its mother. Everyone cheered as the octopus and its child returned to the ocean. Ben sighed in relief. "Crisis averted!" The eighteen year old chuckled.

The party resumed, and Captain Turbot was overjoyed to see that the Flounder had been recovered from the ocean intact. Ryder chuckled as Katie brushed Rocky's werepuppy fur as the Paw Patrol relaxed in the sun. Ben brought some iced waters over for himself, Ryder, and Katie to drink. "To our first rescue as the Sea Patrol?" Ben offered.

"I'll drink to that!" Ryder agreed. The two clinked their glasses together and guzzled down their cold beverages, before letting out a hearty laugh. Their days as the Sea Patrol had merely just begun… nobody knew what sorts of wild aquatic adventures they would go on in the future!
