As Ash and Misty were walking through Viridian Forest.
"This place kind of gives me the creeps." Misty confessed.
"I hope you're not afraid of bug type Pokemon." Ash said.
"Yeah, about that." Misty responded awkwardly.
"Spoke too soon." Ash sweat dropped.
"Pika pi." Pikachu sweat dropped.
Ash pulled out a spray can.
"Here." Ash said as he sprayed Misty with it.
"Hey, what is this stuff?" Misty asked in alert.
"Repel, it decreases the encounter rate with low level wild Pokemon." Ash explained what he had just sprayed on Misty.
"Thanks, I guess, but could you at least give me a warning next time?" Misty asked.
"Sure, no problem." Ash nodded.
The two continued walking through the forest without a issue. That was until Misty screamed. A Pokemon had appeared out of nowhere and startled her. It was a brown worm-like Pokemon. Fortunately, a dark blue bird Pokemon flew down from a tree and scared it off.
"That's the second time I've seen a Pokemon like that. What is it?" Pikachu then jumped off Ash's shoulder and prepared to face the unknown Pokemon.
"Pikachu, Thunder Shock." Pikachu released a yellow lightning bolt from it's body at the dark blue bird Pokemon. The lightning bolt proceeded to paralyze it and make it easier to capture.
"Alright, go Poke Ball!" Ash threw a Poke Ball at the dark blue bird and after a few shakes, the ball stopped moving.
"Yes, I caught a Pokemon!" He cheered.
"Pika!" Pikachu cheered as well.
Ash then picked the Poke Ball up off the grass.
'Hopefully Prof. Oak can tell me what you are.' He thought.
The three then continued walking through Viridian Forest.
"I hope we get out of this forest soon. I don't want to run into any more bug type Pokemon." Misty complained.
Ash then heard a sound and stepped to the side to avoid a sword being thrown in his direction.
"Who threw that?!" He demanded.
A boy in a suit of armor stepped out from behind some nearby trees.
"My name's Samurai." The boy introduced himself to Ash. "I patrol Viridian Forest to find trainers from Pallet Town. Would you happen to be one?"
"I am." Ash nodded.
"Then the two of us are going to battle." Samurai declared.
"You're on." Ash smirked.
Ash and Samurai got ready for their battle.
"I'll start things off with Pinsir." Samurai released a Pokemon that resembled a brown beetle.
"I choose you Pikachu." Pikachu hopped off of Ash's shoulder and got ready to battle.
"Pinsir, Tackle!" Pinsir charged at Pikachu.
The Electric type Pokemon sidestepped the attack and Pinsir crashed into a few trees, knocking them down.
"Quick Attack." Pikachu ran across the battlefield at high speed. He then hit Pinsir, causing the bug type Pokemon to fall onto his back.
"Pinsir, no!" Samurai cried out.
"Now Thunder Shock." Pikachu generated a weak lightning bolt from his body. The lightning bolt hit Pinsir and the Stag Beetle Pokemon fainted.
"Pinsir, return." Samurai recalled Pinsir.
"Not bad." Samurai said, impressed. "But our battle's not over quite yet. Go Metapod."
In Pinsir's place was a green cocoon like Pokemon.
"Pikachu, let my new Pokemon have a turn to battle."
Pikachu agreed and the dark blue bird Pokemon emerged from his Poke Ball.
"Use Peck." It's beak glowed white and it began to peck at Metapod several times.
Metapod couldn't handle the barrage of attacks and fainted. Ash had won the battle.
"You did well." Samurai congratulated his opponent. "I haven't faced many trainers as strong as you."
"Thanks Samurai." Ash replied back. "You're a strong trainer as well."
Ash and Samurai shake each other's hands.
"Do you know the way out of Viridian Forest?" Misty asked. All she wanted to do was leave Viridian Forest.
"I certainly do." Samurai pointed. "Keep doing this direction and soon you'll find yourselves in Pewter City."
"I appreciate that." Ash told him. "And we're going to have a rematch some day."
"You got that right." Samurai smirked. "The next time we battle each other I'll come out on top."
Ash and Misty said goodbye to Samurai and walked down the path that would lead to Pewter City so Ash could obtain his first gym badge.
