Season 4 Episode 14: MISSION PAW SAVES THE CARRIAGE! A DATE AT SEA!
July 14th, 2030
"You need to mend your relationship with her, Princess Bethany. The way you've treated her in the past makes me sick to my stomach. I have half a mind to take Sweetie away from you. But she is your pup. I'm giving you one final chance." Ben had warned the future monarch.
The Princess and her pet canine walked down the halls. It had been just one day since the animals had escaped, and Sweetie's nightmare. She hadn't slept well last night either. "Sweetie… you haven't been acting like your usual self." The Princess of Barkingburg remarked.
"I've been through a lot lately." Sweetie defensively said.
"Does it have anything to do with Claw?" Bethany asked.
Sweetie froze in her tracks. "How did you know?" Sweetie stammered.
"You've been acting scared and unusual around him. Almost as if you're afraid of him. Did him killing the crocodile to save your life scare you that much?" Princess Bethany inquired. Sweetie sighed as she realized she couldn't protect Claw any more. She started to tell her owner everything. About how Claw was the one behind the crown stealing, how he only wanted to make her happy that time but he ended up kidnapping Chase. How he had been disapproving of Tuck and Tracker's relationship. And finally, about her nightmare. "Do you think that… could it be real? Your nightmare?" The Princess asked.
Sweetie had come from a long line of dogs that served as royal advisers, and they could sometimes see into the future. It was around the age of nine that this trait manifested in the royal canines. "I don't know… god, I hope not. I wish I could ride my dreams away." Sweetie sighed.
"Would you like to go for a ride in the royal carriage? Just the two of us?" The Princess offered.
"Just the two of us!? Whenever we ride in the carriage, that smelly old earl has to ride with us, and usually those blasted kittens too! I'll have so much more room! It's a deal, Princess!" Sweetie chuckled.
As they sat in the royal carriage, the horses would not cooperate, meaning they were stuck in place. "We're all out of carrots. Well, at least we can sit here and talk." The Princess chuckled. And so, Sweetie and the Princess started to bond.
As the Princess excused herself momentarily to go and use the bathroom, a pirate ship sailed to the nearby shore and anchored there. "Arrby, land ho! We've landed in Barkingburg. Let's stay here for the night at the shore. Tomorrow, we'll go to the marketplace and sell some of the treasures we got from the sunken sloop!" Sid spoke earnestly.
Arrby was currently looking through the telescope. "Sure thing, Captain Boss Mister Sid Sir!" Arrby answered.
"Heh, you sure do love looking through that old thing. What do you see?" Sid chuckled as he saw Arrby peering through the looking glass.
Arrby gasped as he saw the White West Highland Terrier through the telescope. "That's the most beautiful pup I've ever seen!" Arrby whispered. "Captain Boss Mister Sid Sir, can I go and stretch my legs? And take a snack with me?" Arrby innocently asked.
"Why of course, first mate! Go ahead and get some land leg exercise." Sid nonchalantly said.
Tying the carrots into a bunch and wrapping them around on his bandana, he drove his submarine boat and a large canoe to shore across the ocean surface. Then, he hopped onto land and scurried across the stone path until he approached the carriage. "Here, horsies! I got fresh carrots!" Arrby coaxed.
The equines whinnied and followed after Arrby, much to Sweetie's displeasure. "HEY! These are MY royal horses and carriage! How dare you take the Queen's property!" Sweetie protested.
"Oh! You're a queen!? I didn't know! I was wanting to take you to my ship, and share some dinner with you!" Arrby squeaked, surprised by her.
"Share dinner? With me? I don't even know your name! You've never even met me, and the Barkingburg papers don't even consider me newsworthy! The press is all nosy with the Princess and the King and Queen, but they've never published a word about me. Why do you want to take time out of your evening and bother with me?" Sweetie questioned, genuinely shocked that this Dachshund in a life vest would even consider getting to know her.
The only reason that she and Claw had bothered getting to know each other in the first place was because there were no other canines around. No one understood what it was like to be a pup, unless they were a pup. That was how she and Claw had grown close. Bashing the Earl, making fun of the Princess, antagonizing the castle staff… Those had been good times. But Claw hadn't started off wanting to get to know her. At first, he wanted nothing more than to get back to his knightly training, but his parents and the Princess insisted that they should have a puppy playmate. So they hadn't even become friends willingly.
Neither could she call Ben or the Paw Patrol willing friends either. She didn't really have much of a relationship with any of the canines from Adventure Bay, though Ben did seem to actually care about her (more so than the Princess). That's why she was just so taken aback by this Dachshund's interest in her.
"I think you're pretty, and nice, and I wanna get to know you! I didn't know you were royalty when I first saw you. But even if you weren't a royal, you're still worth getting to know! Come on, please come back with me to my ship! At least for an hour or two. I even have salmon!" Arrby pleaded.
Sweetie hesitated before nodding her head. "I do like salmon… and I must admit, it would be nice to talk with someone new. So… I suppose I could come with you for a little while. Very well. Take me away!" Sweetie mused, and then gave Arrby a command.
"Sure thing, Miss Queen Sweetie, ma'am!" Arrby earnestly replied, leading the carriage to his canoe and boat before taking them back to Sid's pirate ship.
As the Princess and Ben came out of the castle they noticed the carriage and Sweetie were gone. "Sweetie wouldn't have made the carriage go off like this…" Ben murmured.
"It's not like her to disappear like this. It's time to call the PAW Patrol." The Princess declared as she pulled out her phone and called Ryder.
Back in Adventure Bay, the pups were playing tug of war, stretching the rope to its absolute limit and making it snap, sending them flying as Ryder received the call from Barkingburg. "Princess Bethany? Ben? What's going on?" Ryder asked.
"It's Sweetie. She's gone missing, as well as the royal carriage!" Princess Bethany worriedly exclaimed.
"What, first she tries stealing the crown and has me kidnapped, then she tries to steal OUR Air Patroller along with the royal throne of Barkingburg, and now she's taken your carriage and horses!?" Chase snarled, as he was starting to get seriously fed up with Sweetie's antics.
"Claw was the one who kidnapped you." Marshall reminded Chase.
"Yeah, well, she confessed to being the mastermind!" Chase growled.
"Actually, she was covering for Claw. She didn't want to see him get in trouble, so she lied and took the blame for him. She told me that earlier this evening. Chase, Ryder, I don't care if you PAW Patrol people and pups think badly of me or of Sweetie. We both deserve it. I've been a terrible owner for her, but I'm now aware of my mistakes and I am TRYING to fix them. Please, save my pup." The Princess interrupted.
"No worries, you two! No Sweetie is too missing, no pup is too small!" Ryder announced.
The pups all ran to the Air Patroller with Ryder, not getting suited up. "Well, since Sweetie is missing, that means we're going to Barkingburg right?" Rubble pondered.
"Dudes, you know what this means!" Zuma excitedly said.
"It's… A MISSION PAW!" The six pups all cheered as the Air Patroller shot through the sky.
"That's right! Extraordinary missions call for extraordinary vehicles and gear! Robo-Dog, put us into stealth mode!" Ryder affirmed, and the Air Patroller transformed into a sleeker, black form as it flew to Barkingburg, nearly breaking the sound barrier as it accelerated. A platform in the middle of the lake with a bridge over it emerged, and the Air Patroller landed on it before the platform took them into an underwater base. "Time to gear up, Mission Paw style." Ryder announced as he and the six pups went into an elevator that took them down to a control room, with Ryder pressing a button on his pup pad and their pup tags reacted accordingly, dressing them in new gear.
"Mission PAW, ready for action, Ryder sir!" Chase shouted.
"We've got a mystery on our hands. Sweetie's gone missing, along with the royal carriage. Skye, you'll look for them from the air. Chase, I need your detective skills, night vision goggles, and keen senses to search from the ground." Ryder told them. Both pups nodded their heads. "Mission PAW, roll to the rescue!" Ryder shouted out as they loaded onto the Mission PAW Cruiser and drove to the castle.
As they started their search for the princess's pup, Sweetie and Arrby were eating fish from plastic plates that were on a cardboard box. "Sorry about the lackluster state of things! I didn't expect to have someone here! I whipped this up on the fly, Miss Queen Sweetie." Arrby apologized.
Sweetie was too busy devouring her salmon to really care. "Mm, this is delicious! And it's no trouble at all, Arrby. Say, this is a pirate ship, isn't it? You seem too nice to be a pirate." Sweetie mused.
"It's a long story! My owner, Sid Swashbuckle, adopted my parents when he was five. When he was seven, I was born! And then, his parents and my parents died in a fire! So I'm scared of fires. That's all I remember about where I came from. But we were so young that we had to steal to make a living. Sid's parents were also pirates, and so we took over a life of piracy! Though we didn't really plunder people's ships. We did things legally. Sid was taught naval salvage law from a young age so he was able to keep what he salvaged! We brought up all kinds of things from the ocean depths, and one day we found merpups and Puplantis!" Arrby excitedly said.
"Puplantis is real?" Sweetie asked in excitement.
"It sure is, Miss Queen Sweetie, ma'am! I should take you sometime! We went too far though, and if it weren't for the PAW Patrol, our actions would have destroyed Puplantis! But if we hadn't, then we wouldn't have ever met the PAW Patrol and I would never have become a member!" Arrby answered.
"A pirate? On the PAW Patrol?" Sweetie mused.
"Yup! PAW Patrol Black at your service!" Arrby earnestly barked, giving her a salute.
"…I didn't think they would let naughty pups on the team." Sweetie murmured.
"The PAW Patrol accepts all cats and pups that are willing to prove themselves capable of saving lives and risking their own!" Arrby told her.
"…Even someone who's tried to steal priceless artifacts like the royal throne and crown?" Sweetie hesitantly inquired, her voice shaky.
"If they let me in, I'm sure they'd let someone like that in if they were really genuine! Who are you talking about?" Arrby responded.
"…Me." Sweetie sighed, and told him about her previous misadventures.
Arrby ate while she talked, listening to every word. "Those were some pretty fantastic things you did! I can't help but be awed! Plus, you seem sorry for what you did, so I think you have a real chance!" Arrby commented.
Sweetie smiled as Arrby wrapped a necklace with a purple gemstone on it around her neck before he leaned forward and licked her cheek. "Thank you." Sweetie told him.
Then Sid Swashbuckle opened the door to see Arrby licking her cheek. Seeing the empty dinner plates, the crown on Sweetie's head, and the amethyst gem of Puplantis on her neck, he immediately jumped to conclusions. "HEY! ARRBY IS MY PUP, QUEENIE! NOBODY ORDERS HIM AROUND EXCEPT ME!" Sid shouted.
Arrby pulled away as Sweetie stared at Sid. "I beg your pardon?" Sweetie scoffed.
"Just because you're queen around here doesn't give you the right to make him cater to your every whim! It does not give you the right to make him give you the fish that we work so hard to catch, it does not give you the right to take the Amethyst of Puplantis that set us back on the right path, and it does NOT GIVE YOU ARRBY'S AFFECTION!" Sid screamed at her.
"HOW DARE YOU?! Arrby has been NOTHING but generous and kind! I didn't ask for ANY of this! I don't deserve this necklace anyways!" Sweetie yelled, strutting up to him and gesturing for him to take off the necklace.
Sid took it from her and looked at Arrby. "You did this, Arrby?" Sid asked.
The Dascshund nodded his head in confirmation. "Sorry, miss." Sid apologized before they heard the horses whinny. Running to the outside of the ship, they saw they were starting to drift away out to sea. "Crud! I got distracted when I was adjusting the position of the ship, and now we're sailing out to sea! Those horses must have raised the sails!" Sid swore.
Sweetie stumbled and toppled over a bucket of water, causing her to slip and slide with the rocking boat before going overboard. "SWEETIE!" Arrby yelled out, going to the rowboat and lowering it into the water.
"After her!" Sid shouted as he followed his first mate into the rowboat.
"Arf arf, life vest!" Sweetie barked, her standard jumpsuit transforming into an orange life vest. "I'll have to thank Ryder and Ben for installing this in my gear next time I see them. It looks ugly, clashes with my magenta. But it's better than drowning." Sweetie muttered.
"I think you look cute in it!" Arrby chuckled as he and Sid rowed over to Sweetie, with Sid picking her out of the water and placing her in the boat before wrapping her with a blanket.
"Once again, lassie, I apologize for my outburst. Ya see, Arrby is very kind hearted and innocent. I'm always worried that someone might take advantage of that." Sid told her.
"Any sign of Sweetie or the horses?" Ryder asked Chase.
"Nothing so far… wait, I see hoof prints and paw prints! It looks like they went in… the water? And there's some munched up carrots!" Chase mused as he found the tracks with his high tech visor.
"Skye, head to the ocean. We think Sweetie and the horses might be out at sea." Ryder instructed.
"On my way!" Skye yipped as she flew towards the ocean.
Skye reported back that she found Sid's ship with the horses on it but no sign of Sweetie, Arrby, or Sid. "Well, that should be an easy enough fix." Ben chuckled as he then called Arrby.
On their rowboat, Arrby's pup tag lit up. "Arrby, come in! Arrby?" Ben's voice asked.
Arrby's eyes lit up and he did a little happy dance. "BEN! Hi! I didn't expect to hear from you! I thought the pup tags would be out of range! We're in Barkingburg! How are you talking to us from all the way in Adventure Bay?" Arrby asked.
"We're in Barkingburg, looking for the royal carriage and the princess's pup Sweetie. The carriage is on Sid's ship, along with the horses. Do you know where Sweetie is?" Ben asked. "Yeah, she's right here with me and Sid!" Arrby answered.
"Great. I'm sending Skye to go and grab you. Your ship went a little off course and it's too dark for you to try and swim back to shore. Zuma can grab the rowboat and pull it back to shore in the morning, right now he's already steering your main ship back to the docks." Ryder told them.
"Arr. If I had to put the fate of me ship in any dog's paws other than Arrby, then it would be Zuma. Fine sailor, that pup is." Sid sighed approvingly.
Skye's voice called out to them as they saw her helicycle fly over them. "I'm here to rescue you! I can only take one at a time though!" Skye announced to them.
"Royalty first!" Sweetie smirked as she activated the claw in her pup pack and attached the harness to herself.
"HEY! I'm the captain, I should go first!" Sid protested as he tried to grab the harness.
The motion sent Arrby overboard by accident. Arrby sputtered as he surfaced and swam back towards the rowboat. "Can I please get back in the boat Captain Boss Mister Sid Sir?" Arrby asked.
Then the Dachshund heard something emerge from the water behind him, and screamed as a massive tentacle was trying to swat at him. "SKYE! LOWER ME DOWN, I HAVE TO SAVE ARRBY!" Sweetie screamed. Not hesitating for a moment, Skye swooped down, with Sweetie's paws brushing against the surface of the ocean. The claw in her pup pack extended. "GRAB ON!" Sweetie yelled to the pup.
"Claw arm!" Arrby barked as his treasure chest pack opened up and extended an arm of its own, grabbing onto Sweetie's and they both escaped the tentacle.
Skye took them back to shore as Sid rowed to the shore. The princess scooped Sweetie up and cradled her in her arms. "Oh, Sweetie! I was so worried! Thank you, PAW Patrol." The Princess gratefully said.
"Oh, no problem, Princess. Whenever your pup is lost at sea, just yelp for help!" Ryder chuckled.
Arrby looked crestfallen. "You're not a queen?" Arrby asked.
"No, I thought I already told you. You have to admit, I'm pretty good at it though." Sweetie chuckled.
"I guess so! And you saved me from that giant octopus! So thanks, friend!" Arrby earnestly said.
"OH, SWEETIE! YOU MADE A NEW FRIEND! IN FACT, YOUR FIRST FURRY FRIEND EVER! How would you like to be Sweetie's official royal pup playmate?" The Princess squealed before asking Arrby the question.
"HEY! I THOUGHT I WAS THE ROYAL PUP PLAYMATE!" Claw yelled out as Sid came up to shore.
"As owner of Arrby, it would bring me nothing but joy for him to spend more time with his new friend. She's a good pup. We'll be staying in Barkingburg for the next few days, anyway. Arrby, if you want, you can spend the night in the castle." Sid remarked.
"Nonsense! I insist that both of you stay in my castle for at least this evening." Bethany giggled.
"Princess, as a royal knight, I must protest the security risks of this! Pirates in the castle!? They'll rob us blind!" Claw protested.
Sid gave the knight a stern look. "AHEM. Former pirates, thank you very much. We didn't even do much thievery! Most of our work was perfectly legal under the terms of naval salvage laws." Sid snorted.
The PAW Patrol decided to stay the night in Barkingburg with their friends Sid and Arrby. As Sid got ready for bed, Arrby wrote in his diary. "Dear diary, today is the most fantastic day ever! I met the most beautiful princess and her pup is even PRETTIER! I want to make her so, so happy! I'm gonna ask Captain Boss Mister Sid Sir if I can give her some of the jewels we've collected over the years!" Arrby jotted down before going to bed. The little pirate pup, however, couldn't sleep, and he decided to wander the halls of the castle, taking pictures of whatever he found interesting with the camera in his pup pack. His actions were found suspicious by Claw, who was tailing him.
As Arrby reached out to touch a jewel encrusted saber, Claw leapt at the pup and clamped his jaws down on the hind leg, causing Arrby to yell in pain. As soon as he felt the crimson liquid flowing into his mouth he released his grip on Arrby and recoiled. He felt awful all of a sudden.
"Arrby, I'm very sorry for attacking you like that, I thought you were a thief." Claw apologized, guilt eating him from the inside as he bandaged the bite wound before helping Arrby up and taking him to the royal animal care grounds. "It's okay, Sir Claw, sir! You were just doing your job." Arrby answered.
"Still… it wasn't right of me." Claw sighed.
Claw shook his head as he walked with Arrby to the royal veterinarian. "You're the best knight ever." Arrby dreamily said.
Claw felt a rush of blood to his face as Arrby said that, plus a reaction down in his lower regions.
"A-are you… flirting with me?" Claw stammered.
Arrby looked at him with a mystified expression. "Sir Claw, sir, what's flirting?" Arrby innocently asked.
Claw groaned as he decided not to press the matter further. They arrived at the care grounds and the royal vet gave Arrby a checkup. The bleeding had stopped, Claw was commended for his bandaging but scolded for hurting Arrby in the first place. Then the veterinarian went pale as he ran his finger down Arrby's leg and found a bump in one part of it."We need an X-Ray. Stat." The animal doctor gravely said, wheeling Arrby on a stretcher to the x-ray room.
Another servant went to go and fetch Sid Swashbuckle and the others. Ben, Sid, Ryder, and the Princess were all in pajamas as they sat with the pups, not knowing why they were here. Only that Arrby was being given medical attention, and that Claw had brought him here. "I was patrolling the castle grounds as part of my nightly duties when I heard someone and saw them reaching for the jewel encrusted saber. I reacted instinctively and bit down on them… it was Arrby. I didn't mean to! I brought him here straight away… and then they found something else and took him in for an X-Ray." Claw explained to them.
Sweetie snorted and gave Claw a murderous glare. "That's a load of manure! You're jealous of Arrby and me, just because I spent a single evening with him instead of you?!" Sweetie hissed.
"What?!" Claw yelped.
"That's right, I said it! The chivalrous knight feels threatened because a PIRATE turned out to be more generous and caring than he ever was! So you tried eliminating him so that you would be the only boy I could be with!" Sweetie snarled.
"No, no, that's not it at all!" Claw pleaded, eyes watering.
"Claw. I am done with your manipulation. Effective immediately, I'm stripping you of your honors and titles that you have earned. A naughty pup like you doesn't deserve them. You are now the most low and basic rank of knight, for your previous misdeeds. I've tolerated them thus far, but no longer." The Princess coldly said.
Claw sniffled as he felt the honors and titles that he had worked so hard to earn get torn away from him. It wasn't fair! Holding back a sob of anguish, Claw sprinted out of the room. When he left the room, Sweetie let out a pained whimper. "Why does every friend I make have to get taken away from me, why does everything I care about have to get lost? I can't even get a good night's sleep anymore now that I don't have Bubsy!" Sweetie moaned.
At that moment, Skye felt sad for Sweetie. "Bubsy was your toy frog, right?" Skye asked Sweetie.
The West Highland White Terrier nodded her head. "Yes, he was a gift from my mother… I can't sleep without him." Sweetie answered.
Skye turned around and started running out, returning with a wind up toy mouse in one of her paws. "Sweetie, I'd like you to meet Mr. Squeakums. He's very special to me, like Bubsy was special to you. Squeakums was the first toy I ever got from Ryder and Ben. I take him everywhere with me… but I know deep down that I don't need him anymore. I didn't know why I took him with me everywhere… maybe as a safety blanket… or maybe because I was searching for the right person or pup to give him to." Skye introduced Sweetie to her toy.
Sweetie smiled softly, her claw coming out of her pup pack and tipping her tiara off to the toy mousie. "Hello there, Mr. Squeakums. It's a pleasure to meet you." Sweetie greeted. The toy just sat there in response. Then Sweetie looked at Skye. "The right person or pup to give him to… you don't mean…?" Sweetie gasped in realization.
The cockapoo's head bobbed up and down in confirmation. "I'd like you to have him. And I'd like for us to be friends." Skye told her.
The two girls hugged each other. For the first time, Sweetie felt truly happy. A fellow girl wanted to be her friend. It meant a lot to her… and she was going to make sure to return the kindness.
