Song: I am small and needy... warm me up and breathe me ~ Breathe Me by Sia

Chapter 2

Lydia:

I sprang awake in a panic. Sweat clinging to my skin. The dream had been so vivid. Too vivid. So much so that I knew it wasn't just a dream. My heart hammered in my chest as I shakily reached for the light next to my bed. Clicking it on, I blinked against the sudden brightness and grabbed my phone from the charger. 2 am. Great. Well, this day is already starting off crappy.

I flopped back on my bed, exhausted. My eyes close briefly before popping back open. I guess I wasn't getting anymore sleep tonight. Images kept flashing in my mind and a sense of urgency gripped me but still not a right this second urgency. More of an imminent doom very soon kind. Glancing at my phone again, 2:05. It's way too early or late, to call anyone but I still pulled up my contacts. My thumb hovering over Allison's name. I could call her, and she would answer. She would listen and talk me through it. She was my bestie after all. Actually, any of my friends I could call, and they would answer, knowing that if I called this late it had to be important and supernatural related. Honestly Stiles would probably be the best one to explain this too. As manic as he is, he has the ability to figure things out more quickly than all of us. But as my thumb made contact it just scrolled down until I reached the S's and before I could second guess myself, I hit connect.

It rang 3 times before the sleepy voice answered. My breath caught at how sexy it sounded and wondered if it would sound the same if we were too…

"Hello? Lydia?" Scott answered.

"Scott." Duh, of course it's Scott.

"Yeah. Everything okay? What's wrong?"

"Yeah. Sorry. I know it's later, or early, but…" I started feeling stupid. This could have waited. It's not urgent, urgent. I could have just waited and told everyone tomorrow when we were all together.

"It's okay. What's wrong?" he asked again.

"Nothing. Well, nothing right now. Not anything we can do anything about in this moment. But soon something will be wrong, or could be wrong, I'm not sure. I mean it felt real, like a real premonition but I could be wrong, and it was just a really vivid dream."

"Whoa, slow down. Take a breath and start from the beginning." He said soothingly and the tension melted from my shoulders. I'm not sure if it's just his nature, or the alpha in him or just because it's him but he had this way of making everything feel alright even when it wasn't.

"Yeah, sorry. I just, I had this dream just now and… I think we have a potential problem."

"Okay, what kind of problem? Did you see someone die?"

I flinched but understood why he asked. Banshees predict death, we can predict other things as well; danger, disasters, but mainly we do predict death. And if a banshee predicts it there's no turning back, its set in stone.

"No, at least I don't think so. The dream I had, the kid didn't die but they were badly injured. But in the background I hear Isaac shouting your name so I'm guessing you'll be there as well. The building was really blurred but huge so maybe the clinic or maybe the school."

"Okay. So, I'm there with Isaac at least. What else? did you say a kid was injured?" I heard his bed sheets ruffle in the background.

"Yes, but not a child. More like a teen, probably a couple years younger than us. They were brought to the roof and I, or I assume really you, was running after them. You got up there and then there's a snarl and the guy see's you, turns the kid and holds him over the edge. He says something and shows rows of sharp teeth and drops the kid. You run over and catch the kid's hand. Then hands try to pull you back and you struggle to hold the kid and your hand starts to slip… that's it. Then I woke up." I sighed after retelling it. There was a moment of silence before he spoke.

"Well okay. That doesn't sound horrifying at all."

"Tell me about it."

"You said he was more around our age so someone we go to school with. So that could mean it will happen at the school. Can you remember what he looked like?"

"Yes and no. I mean he was blonde, pale and a bit on the short side, could be a freshman. It could be the school. I don't know there were electric gates and units up there, and giant fans, like for air conditioning. But it was night time so I couldn't see much."

"Okay, that wouldn't be the school. So could be the clinic or maybe the hospital."

"I guess. Maybe I'll get a clearer picture the closer it gets. Hopefully sooner. If we could prevent this kid from getting hurt that would be great."

"Of course. But you don't have any idea of when this is supposed to happen?"

"No, I wish I did. It just feels like it will be soon."

"Okay so we will keep watch. I'll have my mom be on the lookout for any teens coming into the ER for the next few nights. We will figure it out and we'll save him."

"I hope so. Sorry again for calling so late. I just felt like I needed to talk about it while it's fresh in my head."

"It's okay."

"No, it's not. This could have waited until tomorrow. Just because it jarred me from my sleep doesn't mean I should jar anyone else from theirs."

"It's no problem. Call me anytime. Even if you just want to talk."

"Thanks Scott." I smiled into the phone.

"Are you going to be okay?"

"Yeah, I'll just do some reading or something for a while."

"Can't sleep?"

"No, it's still too fresh in my mind. Sleeping isn't a possibility right now."

"Okay," I heard more rustling and a muffled sound as if he was adjusting his pillow. "So, what do you want to do our project on?"

"Scott, you don't have to stay up with me. I'll be okay. It just takes some time to shake it off."

"Okay, and while your shaking it off we can throw some ideas back and forth on our project."

"Really, it's not-."

"Lydia, I am not letting you stay up the rest of the night by yourself overthinking this. You are not going to solve this in one night and on your own. We will find this kid and protect him. Now, what ideas do you have for our project?"

I smiled as I snuggled against my pillow and talked to Scott until I was able to drift off.

The next morning, I woke with my phone pressed against my ear and the sound of soft snoring sounding through.

The call was still connected? I didn't even know it could do that. I thought it would time out or something like Netflix does if you don't respond that you are still watching. I lay silently for a few minutes just listening to him breath. Every once in a while a growl or purr would come through and I couldn't help but smile.

"Scott?" I called quietly trying to rouse him. Nothing.

"Scott?" I called a little louder only to get a groan and a muffled response of 'just 5 more minutes'. I had to giggle at how cute he sounded whining.

"Scott!" I yelled.

"Wha-. What happened? Everyone okay?" he finally responded, confused and drowsy.

"Everyone is fine." I snickered.

"Lydia?"

"Yep. That's me."

"Did we really fall asleep on the phone talking?"

"Yes we did and now we have to get ready for school." I informed him just for him to groan again.

"Right. School. That place we are obligated to go to 5 days a week."

"Exactly. So up you get big guy. We got some learning to do."

"And a meeting to have." He sighed.

"Right."

"Okay. I'm up. I'll meet you at school in an hour."

"Sure. And Scott?"

"Yeah."

"Thanks, for last night. It means a lot."

He was silent for a beat.

"It was no problem, Lydia. Anytime you need me, call me. I'm always here for you." He responded softly.

"I know… bye."

"Bye."

Scott:

I was still trying to shake the tiredness I was feeling as I parked my bike right next to Stile's jeep. Being woken up at 2 in the morning was not fun even if I honestly didn't mind it. Especially when I heard her voice over the line. To hear the shakiness in her tone had me immediately on alert. I hadn't planned to spend the next few hours talking to her, but I couldn't leave her to deal with this on her own. Right now, I just wanted to set eyes on her to make sure she was really okay. I had shot everyone in our group a quick text to meet up to talk.

"Dude, you look tired. You okay?" Stile commented as he exited the jeep.

"Yeah, just didn't get much sleep last night." I shrugged, dismounting and placing my helmet on the handlebars.

"Something wrong?" he asked in concern.

"Yes and no." I told him striding towards the school.

"Yes, and no? did something happen?" He rushed to catch up to me.

"Not yet."

"Okay, that clears nothing up. Scott, what's going on?"

"I'm not sure. I just know that there's going to be trouble, maybe. And someone is going to get hurt unless we can prevent it somehow."

"See, that's just annoyingly vague. You know that right?"

"Come on. we'll explain to everyone at once." I told him, opening the door. He stopped right in the middle of entering and looked at me.

"We. Who's we?"

"Just, come on." I pulled him through the door and towards the empty chemistry lab.

Inside we found Isaac, Allison and Lydia.

"Hey guys." I greeted.

"Hey, what's this all about?" Isaac asked getting right to the point, hopping up onto the table next to Allison, sitting so close he was practically in her lap. I hid a smirk at the shy smile she shot him. Allison isn't shy at all. I don't know why they are working so hard to try not to like each other.

"Okay, we may have a potential situation coming up." I started.

"What kind of situation." Allison asked. I turned to Lydia giving her a nod and smile of encouragement. She pulled her bottom lip between her mouth before blowing out a soul deep breath.

"Last night, I had a dream. But it was more like a premonition." She told everyone the dream verbatim. Everyone listened intently and Stile's always the anxious one paced while running a hand continuously through his hair. "And that's when I woke up. So, I don't know if the kid fell or if Scott was able to save him."

Everyone was quiet as they took it all in. Lydia had circles under her eyes, and she was paler than usual, but she smiled at me gamely, letting me know she was okay. I nodded and took in everyone else. Allison looked at Isaac in concern but then looked at me and flinched. I guess I will have to talk to her about this. Isaac had his arms crossed and looking at the floor. Stiles was still pacing, and Lydia was watching me. I gave her another smile, hoping to convey that everything would be okay.

"Okay. Okay, so there's a kid, we don't know, who may or may not go here who will be injured and probably injured by something supernatural and Scott and Isaac are there. We think that this either happens at the clinic or the hospital but not sure exactly when." Stiles summarized it nicely.

"Right." Lydia agreed. She was wringing her hands subconsciously. I couldn't help myself when I reached over and grabbed her hands, halting her.

"It's okay, we'll figure this out." I told her, rubbing my thumb over her chilled fingers. She gave my hand a squeeze and let go.

"So, what we need to do is figure out first, who the kid is, second, who the super is and where this takes place." Stiles said stopping next to Lydia's other side. I moved to lean against the table opposite them.

"Don't forget when. Still have to know that. Unless we plan on checking on every teen that gets sick or injured for however long. You said it felt urgent but not too urgent. Not sure what that timeline looks like, and I don't think it will do us any good to track any and every teen that goes into the hospital for anything from a cough to a broken finger or any kid that has a sick pet and takes them in to Deaton. There's not enough of us to go around anyway. There's no way to track all of them. So, we need to figure out a time and place first." Isaac pointed out.

"True." I agreed, my mind whirling with how to do this. Ideas forming as the rest of them talked about how to do this. Lydia placed a hand on my arm bringing me back to the conversation. I patted her hand instinctively.

"Okay, here's what we are going to do." I said bringing everyone's attention to me. "Allison, you have the beastiary, you and Isaac research what kind of creatures have rows of teeth and see what we come up with. Make a list and I'll ask Derek to see if he has any ideas from what we find."

"We can do that." She agreed.

"Stiles you and I are on kid watch. If I am wherever this kid is, then it either has to be someone we know or know of. We got a vague description of him so we'll be on the lookout for him and see if we can protect him."

That doesn't sound daunting but okay." He agreed.

"Lydia, I want you to try to clear your mind and just let the feeling of when this may happen come to you. Don't try to force it just let it happen. But as soon as you have an idea or even a new clue call or text us to let us know." She nodded.

"I'll let my mom know to be on the lookout for any kids coming in with injuries at night for the next few days and do the same with Deaton about any kid coming with an injured pet. You say it's at night so that limits visits to the clinic to mostly emergency cases. That work for everyone?" I asked, looking around everyone nodded. "Good."

The bell rang then letting us know we had less than 5 minutes to get to class.

"Let's get to class. Everybody text if you find something."

Everyone agreed and started to leave.

"Scott?" Lydia called before I could move. I turned to her in question. "We need to meet to work on our project. Want to do it after school?"

"I can't. I have practice and then work after school. but how about we meet in the library during study period, its right before lunch so we can work through that." I told her.

"That works. See you in class." She smiled and left. Stiles was still there, waiting for me.

"Come on, we got class."

"Tell me something. How did you already know about this if she just dreamed about it last night?" he asked. I winced but explained.

"She called me when she woke up. I think she was freaked and wanted to talk it out."

"And she called you? Not Allison, not me but you?"

"Yeah, well maybe since it was me, she saw or sensed in the dream she thought to call me first."

"I guess that makes sense. And the reason you both look like the walking dead right now is because of that call."

"Yeah, I mean after she relayed it, she still seemed a bit shaken and couldn't sleep so I talked to her a bit until she was relaxed enough to go back to sleep."

"Uh huh… okay." He nodded and let it go. I sighed in relief, but the guilt still built up in my chest. I watched him head to his class before heading to my own. I took my seat behind Allison, just as the bell rang, and gave her a poke.

"Yeah." She whispered as the teacher began talking.

"Remember what you said to me yesterday about just wanting both Lydia and I happy even if that means we are together?" I asked in a low tone.

She nodded.

"The same goes for me for you. I just want you happy Allison, no matter who you decide to date."

She turned her head and eyed me before nodding and facing the front again. But I saw her shoulders relax as she did.
