SONG: You reject my advances and desperate pleas...I won't let you let me down so easily...So easily ~ I Will Possess Your Heart by Death Cab for Cuties

Chapter 6

Lydia:

I was once again sitting in the bleachers with Allison as we watched practice the next day. There was no camera this time and no sketch pad. We were to captivated by what was happening on the field. Scott and Isaac used their usual werewolf grace to score and defend. But Stile's was playing so out of character that we weren't sure it was even him. He was playing so aggressively that the coach was blowing his whistle more than usual and yelling louder than he normally would.

"What is going on with Stiles?" Allison asked in awe, watching.

"Me." I sighed.

"What do you mean?"

"I hurt him." I groaned.

"What?" She turned to look at me.

"I didn't mean too. Yesterday while you all were gone, Stiles asked me something and I answered truthfully. He didn't like the answer but... I couldn't lie to him."

"Uh, oh. I can see where this is going. You finally had the talk."

"Kind of. He asked me if I ever saw him as an option."

"And you told him no."

"No, I told him that there were moments that I did, but..."

"It really never went past those moments." Allison finished and I nodded.

"I tried to explain that he was my friend and that he was a great person, but I just couldn't see anything happening with us."

"So, his heart and his pride are hurting right now."

"Right. I feel like such a horrible person. I didn't want to hurt him, you know that."

"You're not a horrible person. A horrible person would have lied or tried to brush it aside as if it didn't matter. I know that he understands you didn't want to hurt him. Just give him time to get over it."

There goes the whistle again. We turned to the field to see a player down.

"And in the meantime, keep him from killing his fellow teammates." I said as we both stood and made our way down to the field.

"What the hell Stiles, what is going on with you?" Scott yelled.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to do that." Stiles yelled back.

"Yeah, tell that to the kid whose bone I just heard snap." Scott snapped back and ran over to the kid. I halted in my steps and looked at the hair of the down player, blonde, the same as the vision.

"Allison, wait." I grabbed her arm to stop her.

"What is it?"

"Oh, that looks bad. It might be broken. We need to get him to the hospital. Come on Liam lets get you up." Coach said, helping the kid stand.

Allison and I looked at each other as it dawned.

"Scott." I called. He turned to us, and I nodded towards the kid. He understood immediately.

"We'll take him coach." Isaac said having caught the exchange. Both he and Scott each took a side and, basically, carried the kid out to the parking lot.

"I'm going to give them a lift." Allison said following after them.

I hesitantly made my way over to Stiles, giving him a cautious look.

"It's him, isn't it?" he asked when I approached.

"Yes."

His head fell back.

"Shit, I didn't mean to, I wasn't thinking…"

"I know." I whispered.

He turned to look at me then looked away quickly.

"Look Stiles. I'm sorry. I never meant to hurt you. It's the last thing I wanted to do. But I couldn't lie to you, and I didn't want to lead you on. I do care about you, as a friend. I know that's not what you want but I can't give you that. I hope one day you understand that."

"I know. And honestly, I already had an inkling it wouldn't happen with us. It's just going to take time for me to adjust to that dream being crushed. But I will and hey we are still friends right." He gave me a forced smile, but I could hear the sincerity in his voice.

"Yeah, exactly."

"Can I ask just one more question?"

"I don't know." I eyed him warily.

"Just tell me. Is there someone you ARE interested in?"

"Why are you asking?"

He nodded as if confirming a suspicion.

"And you can't date them either, right? But not because you don't want to."

"I… that's not…"

"Its okay. I get it."

"No, Stiles it not-."

"Lydia, its fine. I understand. I think, I already knew on some level; I was just afraid to ask." He gave me another off smile before heading for the locker room.

I groaned and pulled at my hair. My eyes stung as I made my way back to the bleachers and grabbed up my bag before heading to my car. There was a note on my windshield, but it wasn't a parking ticket. Picking it up I turned it over and my heart raced as I read it.

Tsk, tsk Lydia. You have been naughty. Playing one friend against the other. Playing with people's hearts isn't funny. A lesson you need to learn, I see.

I'll be seeing you soon.

Your secret admirer.

I looked around hurriedly before hoping in the car and starting it. My tires squealed as I raced out of the parking lot and headed for home.

JAKJAKJAK

I couldn't sleep that night. I couldn't stop thinking about that note. It was threatening without being an actual threat. But someone was watching me.

Scott texted that night that they found the kid, but something happened. He said he would explain more today. So, I got ready as usual and left the house, but I was aware of everything around me as I drove to school and when I exited the car I held my bag in front of me like a shield. Nothing looked out of the ordinary, but I was spooked.

A hand landed on my back, and I squeaked and jumped.

"Hey Lydia, it's just me. You, okay?" Scott asked.

"Yeah, sorry. Just a bit jumpy this morning that's all. A lot's been going on the last few weeks." I lied.

He probably knew, being able to hear my heart race, scent my fear, but he just nodded and led me into the school and to our usual meeting place, the empty chemistry lab.

I leaned against one of the tables and Scott hopped up right next to me. I could see Stiles study us both and then turn away. I put a bit of space between us but listened to the recount.

"We got to the kid, but not before he was dropped. He didn't die, I was able to save him, sort of." Scott explained.

"Sort of?" Allison asked.

"we'll get to that. First, we, well Isaac was able to subdue the wendigo and my mom was able to sedate him enough so that we could transport him."

"Transport him where?" Stile's asked.

"Deaton pulled some strings and got him committed to Eichen House in the closed off unit. He was just a kid himself; hunters, not too long ago, killed his family. But he's safely locked away."

"Damn, that sucks. But you can't go around chomping on the neighbors, that's just rude." Stiles interjected. That got a chuckle from everyone else and a smile from me.

"Now the kid we saved, Liam." Scott sighed. "We did save him. But you were right Lydia, I did lose my grip on him and just as he was almost out of reach I was able to catch him… with my teeth… while I was a werewolf."

We were all silent as we took that in.

"so, you bitten him?" Stiles asked.

Scott nodded.

"with your teeth?" he asked.

"How the hell else do you bite someone?" Isaac asked incredulously.

"Yeah, I know. I'm just trying to wrap my head around it. That means that you now have a beta."

"Possibly. If he survives the shift, yes. But the problem comes with trying to convince him that we are not crazy."

"What do you mean convince him? Didn't you talk to him and explain things? Maybe show him?" Stiles asked.

"Oh, he explained things alright." Isaac smirked. Scott rolled his eyes.

"Let me paint the picture. So, there we are. A subdued wendigo on the ground and this 15-year-old kid with a deep gash on one arm from the wendigo and a giant bite on the other arm from Scott. Scotts freaking out and grabs the kid up racing down the stairs and out the door before his mom could even come up and give the sedative. I, of course, had to stay and make sure everything went off without any more hitches. But after Deaton has the wendigo picked up, I run all the way back home to hear whines and a struggle upstairs. I get up there and Scott has Liam sushi rolled in duct tape." Isaac describes.

We all turn to look at Scott who looks embarrassed.

"I panicked. He was crying and freaking out about being kidnapped-."

"Well, you did kidnap him." Stiles points out.

"And he wouldn't stop trying to get away so..."

"He ducts tapes him and sticks him in the bathtub."

Again, we all look at Scott. He covered his face with both hands.

"I convince him that we can't leave him in a bathtub, bound and gagged all night. So, we pull him out and sit him down and then Scott…" Isaac shakes his head, laughing hard now. Scott sighed before explaining.

"All I could think to say to him is what Derek first said to me when I realized I was a werewolf."

"So…" Isaac is still snickering as he tries to explain. "Scott tells him how the bite is a gift and how they are brothers now." Now he's doubled over laughing. Stile's snorts and Allison hides her laugh behind her hand. I choked down my laugh and gave his arm an encouraging squeeze. He gave me a smile back patting my hand before going on to explain the rest of how the night went. My gaze strayed back to Stiles and his eyes looked pained as he looked at my hand on Scott. I quickly removed it and crossed my arms.

"Anyway, so we un-tape him and he bulldozes us and runs out of the room. We catch him but its right on the edge of the stairs, so we all go tumbling down in a twist of limbs. And while both Isaac and I both grab a body part thinking we got him; he runs out the door and we are stuck hold each other's leg instead." Scott finished rolling his eyes.

"Wait a minute, I'll get back to the fact that you and Isaac decided at the last minute to cuddle, but you said he ran out the door. Like on his own two feet, he ran out. So that broken leg had healed then." Stiles said.

"Yeah, I guess it did. I didn't really think of that." Scott agreed.

"So, the bite is taking then."

"Maybe, I don't know the rules on this. But sounds like it might be."

"That's great. No deaths and the culprit caught. Yay Team wolf. So, what's our next step? We cannot just let this kid roam around without explaining things properly. And not to bring more problems to our situation but the full moon is coming up in a few days. I remember what Scott was like during his first few full moons. It wasn't pretty, and neither was he." Stiles said.

"Gee thanks." Scott snorted.

"You're welcome, buddy." Stiles smiled brightly. "But what do we do now?"

"First, I have to find him and get him to not run long enough so I can explain. Then we need to find somewhere secluded to take him."

"Okay, anyone got any ideas, suggestions, thoughts, log cabins out in the middle of nowhere so no one gets worried about all the growling and howling that will happen?" Stiles looked around at all of us. A thought popped in my head that just might work.

"I don't know about a log cabin, but I, well my parents, have a lake house about hours' drive from town that's secluded and surrounded by nothing but trees and water. That could work. The shed could hold him." I suggested.

"Do you think you could get the key?" Allison asked.

"I'm sure I can. I'll tell my mom that I want to have a small party there, just us and him. She shouldn't have a problem with it." I shrugged.

"Okay, we will plan for that. Now, we just have to corner him."

"We can do it after practice today maybe."

"Can't, Stiles and I have that thing with his dad after practice today." Scott said.

"No, I'll explain to dad what's going on. I'm sure we can push it to tomorrow after school since practice is cancelled for tomorrow." Stiles offered.

"That works." Scott agreed. "Okay so that's the plan. Lydia, let us know when you get the key. Stiles will talk to his dad and Isaac, and I can keep an ear out for him to make sure he's okay and hasn't flipped out and started changing during a class or something." Everyone agreed.

The bell sounded then, the warning bell.

"And that's a wrap folks. Now, Scotty, tell me all about this cuddle session you and Isaac had last night. Did you confess your undying love for each other?" Stiles asked slapping Scott on the back. Scott shrugged him off playfully and hopped off the table ignoring him. Isaac laughed, following behind them as Stiles asked pointless stupid question after question.

"Hey," Allison caught my attention. "what's going on?"

"I think Stiles knows." I admitted leaving the room with her behind me.

"Knows what?"

"How I feel about Scott."

"Really? How?"

"He didn't come out and say it. But after you left yesterday, he asked me if I was interested in anyone, and I couldn't tell him, so I skirted around it. But then he said, 'it's okay, I think I already knew'."

"But that doesn't mean he knows who it is."

"No, but he did say something like not dating them either, but not because I didn't want to. And just now in that room he was like… studying us and when I touched Scott, he got this look on his face." I stopped at my locker and leaned my head against it.

"Oh." She said wincing.

"Allison this is so screwed up. I don't know what to do?"

"What do you want to do?"

"Scott." I admitted.

"Oh, I know." She grinned salaciously.

"Not like that. Well yes like that but that's not what I meant." I opened my locker and saw another note fall out. Same paper as before. I could only stare at it.

"I know. I'm sorry." She commiserated then looked down to see what I was staring at. "Are you going to pick that up?"

"Yeah. We should get to class. I'll see you in math." I told her, picking up the paper. She waved and sauntered away. I clutched the note in my hand hurrying to my own class, the one I had with both Scott and Stiles. I slid into my seat just as the late bell rang. While waiting for the teacher to start and half listening to Stiles and Scott joke around, I opened the note and read.

Oh Lydia,

You just can't help yourself can you. Have you no heart at all. Leading two men around on a string, or should I say three men. But you never noticed me, did you? I was never on your radar. But I will be.

See you soon,

Your secret admirer.
