I had hoped for at least one review by now. Oh well. Still going to post. Hope you enjoy.
SONG: What I've done… I'll face myself… To cross out what I've become… Erase myself…And let go of what I've done ~ What I've Done by Linkin' Park
Chapter 7
Scott:
Stiles and Lydia are both acting strange and neither of them will tell me why. Stiles says he is fine, he just working through his dream girl issues. I asked if he wanted to talk about it, but he said not right now. that he's handling it, but he would let me know when he is ready to talk about it. I just made sure he knew that he could any time.
Lydia has been jumpy and nervous since yesterday, looking over her shoulder constantly and looking around every corner as if waiting for someone to attack her. But when I asked her what's wrong, she says she's fine and puts on a fake smile. But I can hear the lie and smell the fear. I can't force her to talk to me about it, I can only watch over her and protect her.
It's almost the end of practice. Liam is there and he's playing hard while simultaneously staying as far away from Isaac, Stiles and I as he can manage. I had talked the coach into putting him on equipment duty which means he will be the last to enter the locker room and it should hopefully be empty by then.
Lydia and Allison are up in the bleachers again watching. The concern on Allison's face as she talks to Lydia has me worried, but I don't want to eavesdrop. If it's something serious I have to believe that they will say something to me. We were finishing running the last drill and Stiles just falls out in the grass breathing heavy as coach blows the whistle to signal the end of practice.
"Thank God, I can't take anymore." He pants out. Isaac and I both grabbed an arm and dragged him up and towards the locker room. I can see both Allison and Lydia making their way down as well. They are going to hide out in the girls locker room until we are sure everyone is gone.
Stiles, Isaac and I take our time putting our stuff away and taking off pads, trying to wait out the rest. Soon everyone is gone, and Coach is telling us to hit the road before he too is gone. The girls sneak into our locker room and stand on either side of the door. I stand front and center facing the door while Isaac and Stiles stand behind me. Soon the door opens and in walks Liam dragging all the equipment. He dumps it in the cart before looking up and seeing us. The girls both block the door just as he turns to try to exit. Allison has her mini crossbow hidden behind her back just in case.
"Seriously." Liam says, turning back to us.
"We need to talk."
"We really don't. look I won't say a word about you kidnapping me since you saved my life, if that's what you are worried about."
"As much as I appreciate that. That's not what we need to talk about."
"Is this about that weird thing you were fumbling over when you had me tied up?" he asked.
"You mean taped. He had you taped up, like a sushi roll." Stiles helpfully supplied.
"Thanks Stiles. I think I got this."
"Sure. Just don't screw it up this time."
I rolled my eyes.
"Like I said, we need to talk. You need to understand."
"Understand what?" Liam sighed.
"This." I told him and switched my eyes to red.
"What the…" Liam gasped looking from me to Isaac on my left and back. I knew Isaac's eyes were glowing a bright golden yellow. "How did you do that?"
"It comes with the territory." Isaac said.
"What territory."
"Wolf territory. More specifically, werewolf." Stiles explained.
"Werewolf, you want me to believe that you all are werewolves?"
"No just Scott and Isaac. Well and you are too apparently." Stiles said.
"But not you? What are you then?"
"Human. Pure unadulterated human with a mild case of ADHD, severe anxiety and a fundamental understanding of all things sarcastic, but no glowing eyes."
"Okay… and you two?" Liam asked, turning to the girls.
"Hunter." Allison answered.
"Banshee." Lydia said.
"Banshee? What is that?"
"that's a conversation for another day. Just know that what happened on the roof, what I did to you, changed you."
"Into… a werewolf." he said skeptically.
"Yes."
"I'm not buying it. Those are just special contacts, and this is just some weird hazing for a new player or something."
Knowing I would have to do it to finally prove to him that this is real, I shifted. Fully face, fangs and claws extended.
"Are you buying this?" I voice coming out gruffer than my normal.
"Holy…" he backed up to where the girls were.
"I'm not going to hurt you. I just need you to understand." I told him shifting back.
"You, you turned me into that. You made me a, a… werewolf."
"Yes, I did and I'm sorry about that. It was the only way to save you at that time. If I didn't latch onto you, you would have fallen and died."
"But I can't be. I can't do any of that."
"Not yet. But you will and soon. Theres a full moon in a couple of days and you will change. But you will be dangerous to everyone around you."
"What? What do you mean? Why?" he panted out feeling overwhelmed.
"The first change, the first full moon will bring new emotions, new sensations. You'll be out of control and not conscious of what you are doing. You could hurt someone."
"My, my parents. They, I… I can't…"
"It's okay. We can help you. We can take you somewhere to keep you and them safe."
"No, this, this isn't real. I don't believe it. I am not a werewolf. You're all just full of shit. You're just playing with me. This isn't real." He said panicking and started to shake.
"Liam-."
"NO! you're lying! You must be. There's no way. YOU'RE LYING." He shouted before falling to his knees with a scream of pain.
"Lydia!" I shouted holding out my hand to her at the same time Isaac called out,
"Allison."
Both girls rushed around him and to us. I pulled Lydia behind me, and Isaac did the same with Allison.
"Oh God, what is this. What is happening to me. It hurts. Make it stop." Liam cried out.
"Stile's get them into the coaches office and lock the door behind you. Isaac let's get him to the showers."
Both girls went with Stiles, and I heard the door shut and lock. Isaac and I grabbed hold of Liam and dragged him into the shower, turning the cold on as far as it would go.
"It's okay, you're gonna be alright. I promise."
He screamed some more then looked up at me with yellow eyes.
"Help me." He pleaded.
"I will but I need you to try to calm down."
We shoved him under the spray, and he roared loudly, his fangs making an appearance. His hands were gripping us as his claws extended and pierced skin.
"Son of a…" Isaac spat out trying to hold on to him under the water.
"Liam, listen to my voice. Just breath, focus on being human."
He struggled against us, and it took effort for us to keep him under.
"Damn he's strong." Isaac gritted out. And he was right. Liam was exceptionally strong. But we had to get him back to himself.
I left the alpha take over.
"Liam!" I growled, "calm down." I ordered.
He started to struggle less, and his claws retracted, followed by his fangs and finally his eyes turned back their normal blue. He sagged to the floor folding into himself.
"You calm now?" I asked, crouching in front of him. He nodded but didn't look up. Then I heard sniffling. I turned to Isaac. "Go get Stiles and the girls. You all should head out; I got this now."
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah, we're good. Go."
He nodded and jogged off. I heard the knock on the coach's door and him whispering for them to go. The locker room door opened and closed back, and I was alone, with my new beta. A 15-year-old kid who I dragged into this world.
"You, okay?" I asked him.
"No." he whispered, shaking his head. I sat down next to him, feeling the wetness soak my jeans.
"I know. I wasn't either when it first happened to me. It's a lot to take in at once. But you are not alone. I won't let you deal with this alone."
"Did you do it alone?" he asked, looking at me with red-rimmed eyes.
"Partially. My maker, well he's a bit of a psychopath. He bit me one night while I was roaming the woods and pretty much left me too it. But I did have a mentor of sorts. He helped me somewhat. But a lot I still had to learn on my own. I won't let that happen to you."
"Why?" he asked, and I huffed a humorless laugh.
"My first year as a wolf I spent it pretty much fumbling around in the dark. My mentor at the time wasn't sure if he wanted to help me or kill me. Eventually we grew close and he's like a brother to me now. But there was only so much he could help me with. He was born a werewolf; I was made one so there are some differences. Add to that my maker at the time spent months either trying to get me to kill or wanting to kill me himself."
"What happened to him?"
"He lives in an apartment downtown last I heard. He's still around. A bit less crazy than he was before. But still unstable in major ways. We have… a complicated relationship. But my mentor is his nephew. He's a bit more stable but I wouldn't say completely sane."
"Is that a werewolf trait or something?"
"What, insanity? No, it's a Hale trait apparently, though." I smirked. He chuckled and we fell silent.
"They can't know." He whispered after some time.
"Who?"
"My parents. They can't know what I have become. I have put them through so much already."
"What do you mean?"
"I, I got kicked out of my last school. I had an… altercation with my last coach. I kind of… slashed up his car because he benched me."
"Why did he bench you?"
"I got a couple of red cards." He mumbled.
"Just a couple?"
He shrugged.
"Liam if I'm going to help you, I need to know what happened."
He didn't speak for a long time before finally owning up to what he did.
"He benched me because I used to get into a lot of fights on the field and was red card, a lot. When he benched me, I lost it. I kind of... exploded. Thrashed his car really good. The school kicked me out and I was ordered to have a psych evaluation."
"What did they say?"
"They said… I have I.E.D., Intermittent Explosive Disorder. They put me on meds, but I can't take it when I play, I get drowsy."
Great I just gave super strength and power to a ticking time bomb.
"My parents, when they saw what I did, the look on their faces. They can't know about this. They'll think that, that I'm a…"
"a monster?" I finished. He nodded and sniffed again.
"Liam, look at me." I told him switching my eyes. He looked up. "You are not a monster. You're a werewolf, like me."
He sighed and his eyes flashed for a second before settling back blue.
"Come on, I'll give you a ride home."
We stood and looked at our soaked clothes.
"We should probably change first. Go get dressed and then I take you home and explain what will happen on Friday night."
"Okay." He trudged off to get dressed. I did the same.
Parking in front of his house we both dismounted. I grabbed my bag back from him and my helmet.
"Remember Friday after practice we will take you to the lake house for your transition. Tell your parents that your team captain is having a team building night, so they don't worry. And call me anytime if you started feeling strange or just want to talk about it."
"Okay." He nodded, still looking worried and stressed.
"We'll take care of you. I promise. We will get you through this and I will help you learn control."
Again, he nodded before turning to head in.
"Hey Liam."
"Yeah?"
"Do you have a best friend?"
"What?" He turned back to me confused.
"Do you have someone that you trust implicitly? Anyone that you trust with this secret?"
"Yeah, I do."
"If you want to tell him, let me know. I will help you explain it. This life is a lot more manageable with someone you can turn to for support. You have us but if you want him to know, it's okay."
"I'll think about it." He spoke. I nodded, watching as he walked into his house. Putting my helmet on, I restarted my bike and went home.
Mom left me a note on the fridge that she was working a double and dinner was in the fridge. I grabbed the plate from the fridge and warmed it up before heading up to my room with it and a can of Coke.
My phone buzzed as I flopped onto my bed. I pulled it out to see Lydia calling me.
"Hello?"
"Hey, I just wanted to check on you. Everything go okay?"
I smiled.
"Yeah, everything went fine. He's coping, but it will take time. It's an overwhelming feeling changing species overnight."
"You don't have to tell me. I may still be human but going from being normal to seeing death and predicting disasters wasn't easy to deal with. It's still al learn process with all of it."
"Yeah, it is."
"You were really good with him."
"I fumbled my way through it."
"Maybe at first but once you really took the time to think about how to approach this you were great."
"I just want to be for him what I wish Peter had been for me."
"Ugh, Peter. Let's not talk about him. Please."
I laughed at the disgust in her voice.
"I know, he's a sore topic for both of us. But what I mean is, I wish when I was bitten it was by someone who took the time to guide me, help me, lead me. I struggled so much to figure this out. If it had not been for Derek and Stiles, I'm pretty sure I would have gone on a rampage or be dead by now."
"Well now you have the chance to do for him what wasn't done for you. You're going to be good at this I just know it."
"Thanks, but I wish I hadn't had to bring him into this life at all. This life isn't easy, not at all. Granted having a vengeful maker, hunters, dark druids and serial killer alphas all after you with in a span of a year would make it that much harder. But still, it's going to be a rough road for him. This is a time when he should be enjoying being a kid. Hanging out with friends, going to class and playing lacrosse. I just had to go and add in being a teenage werewolf to it as well."
"Hey, you did what you had to do to save his life. Did things go as you had hoped, no but you made the best of a bad situation. You gave him a chance to live, never mind it wasn't the life he thought he would have. But I think with you guiding him, he will make the best of it."
"It means a lot that you have so much faith in me."
"Always Scott." She said softly. My heart skipped. "Anyway, I just wanted to make sure everything went okay. I'll let you get on with the rest of your night. I'll see you tomorrow."
"of course. Thanks for checking."
"Good night, Scott."
"Sweet dreams, Lydia."
