**I had the hardest time picking a song for this chapter. Still not completely sold on this one but it was the closest I could find to relate. Enjoy**

Chapter 13
Scott:
I woke up with Isaac standing in my doorway. I pulled a pillow over my head.
"Go away." I groaned.
"Can't. I'm under strict orders to make sure you are awake. We have a full day ahead of us."
"What full day?"
"Well, I got a call from Stiles because apparently your phone is off."
"I must have turned it off after I hung up with Lydia." I muttered through my pillow.
"Maybe. Anyway, he figured something out and wants to meet at the school in like an hour. Then we have actual school, classes and all that crap. We have practice and you have work and then I thought you wanted to head over to Allison's afterwards to check on Lydia."
"Yeah," I groaned again tossing my pillow in his direction. He caught it with a laugh. "Fine, I'm up. Give me thirty. Are you riding with me?"
"Yup. Oh, and we are staying the night with the girls, tonight." He said as an afterthought.
"Wait, what?" I asked shooting up.
"Mr. Argent called this morning. He has a business meeting early tomorrow morning out of town and he's leaving tonight. He didn't want to leave them there by themselves, so he wants us to stay with them."
I blinked at him. I had no words for that, but I had thoughts. Very bad thoughts. This has disaster written all over it. Me practically alone with Lydia in an empty apartment. Isaac and Allison weren't going to be any help because I'm sure they would disappear as soon as they could. Stiles. Yes, disaster, absolute disaster.
"So, pack a bag." He called as he left.
"Yeah." I answered belatedly.
"Running late, see you later mom." I called as I jogged down the stairs. Both bags in hand.
"Hey, wait." She called coming into the living room from the kitchen. She tossed something at me. The keys to the car.
"What's this for?"
"I'm off today and tomorrow so take the car. It can't be comfortable with both you and Isaac on that bike."
"You won't need it?"
"No, I'm staying in today. Going to do some things around the house. And I'm leaving tonight. I will be back tomorrow afternoon."
"Where are you going tonight?"
"I'm riding with Argent, well Chris, on his trip. I know he asked you two to stay at his place so just be safe." She said. I looked at her in disbelief.
"I have so many questions that I fear the answers. I'm just going to pretend you didn't say it. Thanks for the car. Love you." I kissed her cheek.
"Love you to. Take care of her Scott."
"I will."
Isaac was already by the car impatiently waiting.
"Dude, you're slow. Let's go."
"I was just traumatized by my mother. Give me a break." I said, throwing my bags in the back next to his.
"What about?"
"My mother is going away tonight… with Argent." I said pulling out.
"What? your mom is doing Mr. Argent? No shit?" he laughed.
"I haven't had the urge to kill you lately, let's not change that."
"You know if they get married, then Allison will be your stepsister."
"Isaac." I warned.
"Fine, fine." He relented but kept snickering. At one point he had pulled out his phone and started texting, but I grabbed it and put it in the door panel.
"Hey, I meant to ask. You want a job?" I asked him.
"Doing what?"
"Deaton is looking for another assistant. I only work three days a week. He's looking for someone to do at least two and maybe a third. He wants me to start doing some of the basic treatments to leave him time to take care of the major stuff."
"Really, yeah man. I would love that. I think I could help some of the pets there, you know, with pain."
"Exactly. I'll let him know. And I'll give him your number so you can ask any questions you have."
"Thanks."
"No problem."
"You're pretty good at this alpha stuff, you know?"
"I don't know about that."
"You are. The way you are helping Liam and looking out for all of us without making demands or barking orders. You use everyone's strengths to solve problems. Everyone's opinions count. I like Derek but he was a horrible alpha. You seem like you were made for this."
"Even those times where I want to punch you or worse." I smirked.
"More than often, I deserve it. Allison always says one day my mouth is going to get me in trouble. She's probably right. But you're still a good alpha."
"She is, and thanks. Most days I feel like I'm fumbling around in the dark with all this."
"And you probably are. It's not like there is a handbook on being a werewolf or an alpha."
"We could certainly use one." I said pulling into the parking lot.
"True."
"Alright let's do this, I'm sure Stiles is pacing a hole in the floor by now." I handed him back his phone.
"Should he be on medication?"
I snorted but didn't answer. We grabbed our backpacks and headed inside to the chem lab. And just as I suspected, Stiles was pacing and looking at his watch. Liam and Mason were sitting on tables watching him. He looked up as soon as we entered.
"You're late."
"And you are more worked up than usual. What's up?"
"I had an idea. So, we think this is a student, right? So that means they need to use their card to get into the building, unless they had a key which is highly unlikely."
"You had a key." Isaac pointed out. "But you stole it."
"Borrowed, I borrowed it."
"Did you return it?" I asked.
"That's irrelevant. But what I'm saying is that if this is a student and they had to use their key to get in."
"Then there is a record of it." I finished.
"Yes, exactly. We need to see the record. Maybe we can narrow it down."
"Yeah, but there must be thousands of swipes in a day, right? All the students and staff. The only one who doesn't swipe is the janitorial staff." Liam pointed out.
"Not necessarily. Friday, Lydia's locker was fine. So that means this had to happen either over the weekend or early Monday morning when no one was here to catch them. If it's over the weekend there can be only like a dozen, right? Because only staff and nerds come to school on a weekend."
"I've come to school on a weekend before." Mason said, raising his hand.
"That's irrelevant. And think about it." He continued still pacing. "When school is open, we don't need to use our swipe cards because the doors are unlocked. They are only locked after hours."
"That makes sense. But how do we get the records? The school isn't just going to hand it to us, and your dad is trying to keep us out of this as much as possible."
"What we need is a hacker or someone really good with computers who could figure out how to get into the system." Stiles stopped pacing contemplating who we could ask.
"Or… you just need someone who works in the office one day a week during free period who can get into the system." Mason suggested raising his hand again.
"You do?" Stiles asked.
"Yeah, every Monday during last period. I get extra credit for it."
"Who gets extra credit for that? Never mind that's irrelevant."
"You really like that word today, don't you?" Isaac asked.
"Why yes, I do, it was my word of the day. Thank you for noticing. Anyway, Mason, you think you can get into that system?"
"Sure, I run a lot of reports for the office it shouldn't be too hard. I just need a date range to look for."
"Awesome. That's awesome. From now on you are our director of all technical things. that is your new title. That is your role in the pack." Stiles said clapping him on the shoulder.
"Wait, how come he gets a role and title? I didn't get one." Liam said.
"You're a wolf. That is literally your role and title. You do wolf things."
"But I'm not good at wolf things yet, I'm still learning."
"You're doing great Liam; you're catching on really quick." I told him.
"Yeah, you're doing better than I did when I was first changed." Isaac chimed in.
"Oh yeah, Isaac was a dick when he was first changed. Remember that whole kanima thing and how he was ready to kill Lydia because he thought she was the kanima." Stiles brought up and I growled, instinctively.
"Seriously Stiles? You want him to kill me, don't you? Just admit it."
"I dream of it. So, Monday. Today is Tuesday, we have a full week. We could still go sniff lockers, but I imagine you all would want to save your olfactory system by not doing that. So, let's put a pin in this until Monday. Lydia is safely tucked away at Allison this week, painting nails or whatever they are doing."
"Actually, Allison is teaching Lydia some self defense this week." Isaac volunteered.
"Really?"
"Yeah, that's what she told me last night."
I nodded, happy that Lydia was learning. I never wanted her to feel this helpless again.
"Okay, now that that is settle, I need water because I had two energy drinks this morning and I'm a bit dehydrated." Stiles said.
"Why the hell did you have two energy drinks?" I asked.
"Better question, why did you have even one energy drink? You already bounce off the walls on a regular basis." Isaac asked.
Stiles smiled at him and said, "that's irrelevant."
Lydia:
"Okay, that's good. Try it again but plant your feet and hold your position. Try to block me. Remember don't lock your arms but stay steady." Allison instructed.
We tried again and I did better in blocking, but it was hard to hold the position for long.
"Better, that's better." She encouraged.
"Break, I need a break." I huffed. She laughed and handed me a water bottle. I took a long drink before collapsing. "Oh my God, this is harder than I thought it would be."
"But worth it." Allison said sitting down next to me.
"Definitely."
"How's it going in here girls?" Mr. Argent asked, stepping into the room.
"Its going well. She's catching on quick."
"that's good. Just remember a lot of it is muscle memory. If you practice it enough it becomes second nature, and you don't even have to think about it when you actually need to use it."
"Right now, my muscles only remember pain." I told him, sitting up. He chuckled. "Whoa, looking good there Mr. Argent."
"Why thank you." He smiled straightening his lapel. He was dressed in an all-black suit. It looks like he trimmed his beard and styled his hair.
"Why are you dressed up dad? I thought the meeting was tomorrow."
"Yeah, about that. I'm not going alone; I'm actually taking someone with me."
"Like a date? So, there's no meeting?" Allison asked.
"No there's a meeting tomorrow. But tonight, we are going out on a date before we leave." He explained, eyeing her. There was an expression on her face that I wasn't sure how to interpret. "Are you… okay with that?"
"I don't know. I mean I'm not upset about it or anything. It's just weird, I guess. I didn't really think about you dating. You're my dad."
"He's also a DILF." I stated.
"Lydia!" Allison choked out laughing.
"He is." I shrugged while drinking more water. He laughed as she shoved me.
"Why thank you. Anyway, I'm going to head out. Isaac should be here soon. Call if you need anything. And be careful."
"We'll be fine. Have fun dad." Allison got up and gave him a kiss on the cheek.
"Bye sweetheart. By Lydia."
I waved as he walked away.
"Hey dad?"
"Yeah."
"Who's the woman?"
He gave a nervous chuckle and reached up to run his hand through his hair but thought better of it.
"Melissa McCall." He said. Both our mouths dropped open. He smiled and left. We turned to look at each other. I couldn't help it, I laughed. I laughed hard, falling over in the process.
"No way." She whispered.
"You know, if things work out with them then you and Scott could end up brother and sister."
"Oh my God, shut up. I can't think about that!"
I cackled louder as she threw her empty water bottle at me.
"That's it. Let's go again. Same drill. Come on."
I groaned but got up and got into position.
