Ch 32 Evergrande Conference Preliminary Rounds Pt 1
(Insert Pokemon 2019 OST(Vol.2):Pokemon world championships)
It was the middle of the morning; people were starting to enter the Pokemon League's Victory Road to the Stadium. They were bustling with excitement for the upcoming Battles they were about to witness.
Many Rotom Drones flew above the moving crowd to the Stadium, hovering above the opening.
The monitors on the face of the Stadium turned on, revealing a familiar Reporter on screen.
"Welcome to Day Two of the Evergrande Conference. Today will be the start of the Preliminary Rounds for the trainers competing to face the Hoenn League." Gabby explains what day it is for the Conference.
"As you are all aware, only two-hundred and fifty-six trainers can compete in the Qualifying Rounds. So for you, all trainers competing, I wish you luck!" Gabby winks at the camera, wishing those good luck. "Join me next time when we'll be covering the Opening Ceremony with the Chairwoman."
Gabby smiles, giving some dramatic effect to her reporting. "So until next time my viewers!"
Helena huffs, rushing through the streets of Evergrande City. "I can't believe I've overslept!" She cried, pausing for a moment while taking out her Rotom Phone.
She taps her foot, a bit anxious and worried that she might miss the Opening Ceremony. "Come on, come on, pick up-" The other line picked up her call, "Hello?"
"Helena! Where are you?" Roxanne answered the call, "We're already at the Stadium in our seats!" She informed the former Witch of where she and Flannery are.
"I know, I didn't know what happened," Helena tries to explain why she didn't meet up with her and Flannery. "I guess I was too tired that I slept on the bed after getting ready this morning,"
Roxanne sighs on the other end of the call. "Well, you did come back later than you said you would. Come on, you got carried away talking to Steven, right?" She asked, having a feeling that Helena was blushing.
"U-Um…" Helena was unable to answer the brunette's statement.
"Yep, I knew it." Roxanne chuckles already knowing the reason why she slept in.
Helena could only give an embarrassed chuckle, admitting that she was on the mark. She could hear Roxanne chuckling from the other end of the phone. "Anyways, both Flannery and I are sitting at the Ghost Tower."
"Ghost Tower?" The former Witch was unfamiliar with the term her friend used. "What's that?"
She heard Roxanne slap her forehead before answering her. "I forgot; we didn't really explain the concepts of the Pokemon League." The brunette stated, "To be short, each Tower is where the Elite Four are, the color is the respective type they specialize."
Helena nodded, listening to her friend explaining what the Towers are for. "I'll explain the Towers another time, but the indigo-violet Tower is where we're sitting," Roxanne told where she and Flannery were sitting. "We're in the middle row. Not hard to miss."
"Okay, I'll be there soon." Helena ended the call before looking at the people heading to the Pokemon League. "The indigo-violet Tower…okay,"
The former Witch made her way to the Pokemon League by herself, following the crowd.
Helena walks with the crowd, heading to the Stadium. Upon entering the Stadium, she looked around the lobby for the entrance to the Ghost Tower side. "Ghost Tower…Ghost Tower…where's that entrance?" She sighs, scanning the lobby. (End Song)
She then heard some people, mainly children chattering among themselves. Helena turned her head, seeing a navy blue-haired man in a purple suit around his early forties standing before the children.
He stood before a table where a strange action figure was presented to them. "Now children, behold the new invention I got here." The man showed the figure to them.
Helena couldn't help but approach the crowd, curious about the commotion. "What's going on here?' She asked someone around the man.
A trainer turns to the black-haired trainer, "This man is well known in Hoenn for showing off new inventions to everyone." She explains to Helena.
"Now, take a look at this!" The man smiles at the crowd of children. "This invention allows you to open a soda can without you lifting a finger." He explains the function of the invention he's presenting.
The man took out a soda can and placed it in the arms of the action figure. "Behold, the workings of the first automatic soda can opener!" He exclaims.
Everyone looks at the action figure, seeing how the invention works. They watched as the action figure's arm grabs hold of the can and the other on the tab.
The invention was trying to open only to have the can burst open. The soda sprayed at every corner of the table; the liquid was spilling from the table. "Ah…that wasn't supposed to happen." The navy-blue-haired man taps his chin, seeing the mess he made.
"Man, I thought we were getting a soda opener." A trainer sighs in disappointment, hoping to have one on his travels.
"Yet again, another potential invention went to waste." A female trainer shrugs before walking to the audience.
Soon every person in the lobby left the area, returning to what they were doing prior.
The man sighs with a smile before packing up the invention and cleaning the table. "Well, at least I got some great data from this." He said to himself,
Helena approached the man, finding that invention that he made intriguing. "Excuse me Sir, but your invention."
"Yes, yes, I know what you're going to say." The man stood up confidently with a bright smile. "The contraption was a bust, but that's not the purpose of why I presented this to everyone."
"That's not it, I'm impressed that you made something like that," Helena stated, looking at the invention he was putting away. "It's something unique for something to use."
The man paused before turning to the black-haired girl. "Really? Interesting." He smiles, hearing her compliment the trinket he made. "The only reason I built this is to see how the people of Hoenn would react,"
"I see. That's actually kinda smart." Helena placed her hand on her chin, understanding this man's business strategy. "Using something that fails so you can see how the crowd reacts to it so you can develop something better later on based on everyone's reactions." She commented.
"Mmm, it seems that you have some experience doing these things." The man commented, turning to the black-haired girl.
Helena held her hands up, denying what the man said about the experience. "Oh no, I don't have any experience inventing inventions. I just pick up on what I observe and the thing you told me, Sir." She explains to the navy-blue-haired man.
The man chuckles, finding this young trainer interesting. "You are very observant, young lady." He smiles before clearing his throat. "Anyways, my name's Joseph. I'm here to see my Son compete in the Evergrande Conference; are you perhaps a trainer who's competing?"
"I'm not, I came with a group of friends to support the two who are competing." The former Witch explains before catching her rudeness. "Sorry, you have introduced yourself and I didn't. My name's Helena, it's nice to meet you, Mr. Joseph."
"Joseph is quite fine, my dear." Joseph ensures that she wasn't rude. He then looks at the screen where the Opening Ceremony was over. Gabby was finishing announcing the winners for the First, Second, and Third rounds of the Conference. "Oh Arceus, we've missed a few rounds already." He stated.
Helena turned her head to the screen, noticing that too. "Wait! I need to look for the Ghost Tower side entrance." She looks around, searching for any signs that point her in the right direction.
Joseph blinks, hearing the plea from the former Witch. "The Ghost Tower? I believe I can help you with that, Helena." The navy-blue-haired man offered his assistance to her.
"Really? That would be great," Helena smiles brightly at how kind Joseph was. Now that she thinks about it, his kindness was familiar to someone she knows.
Joseph points to the left side of the Stadium, "If you're looking for the Ghost Tower, the entrance to the seating is on your left and through the big doors." The navy-blue-haired man explains to the young trainer. "You can't miss it."
Helena nodded, appreciating his help. "Thank you, si-I mean Joesph." She turned around before leaving for the Ghost Tower.
Joseph smiles, watching Helena run off to the entrance. "Was that Helena Potter?" The man turned to his side, seeing his Wife coming over to him.
"Lydia my dear, I guess I was engrossed speaking to Helena that I missed the opening ceremony." Joseph chuckles, seeing why their Son and his friends were interested in her.
Lydia giggled at her Husband gaining a liking to the black-haired trainer. "Of course, the same goes for me when I have spoken to her." She turns to the right side of the Stadium, looking back at Joseph from her shoulders. "Come, dear. They're about to start the next round."
Joseph nodded, "Of course, I wonder when Steven's Battle is up?" He asked,
"Not sure, we'll have to wait Joseph." Lydia smiles, walking with her Husband to their seats near the Dragon Tower side.
Helena rushed in the Stadium Halls, searching for the big doors Joseph told her about. "Where is it, doors…doors…Ah!" She stopped, seeing two big indigo-violet doors indicating the Ghost Tower side.
"Found it," The former Witch went to the doors, opening to the Battlefield.
Outside the crowds were going wild at a Preliminary Round ending with the other side claiming victory for the Qualifying Rounds.
"Another competitor has joined the ranks of the Qualifying Rounds," The Commentators announced the victor of this Round. "Now, onto our Fifth Round. The Competitors are Brawly and Cassidy,"
Helena smiles, hearing a familiar name up for the next Round. "It's Brawly's turn already?" She looks at the huge monitor before her, seeing Brawly's photo with another trainer on screen.
"Helena!" The former Witch heard her name being called; she looks down at the middle row where both of her friends are.
Flannery was waving at her, indicating that they were sitting there. "Ellie, we've saved you a seat!" The red-haired called out to her friend.
Helena made her way over to their friends, "Sorry girls, I was distracted with something at the lobby." She scratches the back of her head, apologizing to them.
"Something was happening at the Stadium's lobby?" Roxanne asked, scooting over for Helena.
Helena sat down, nodding in response. "Yeah, this guy was showing off a prototype soda opener. It didn't go as planned though." She explains to them.
The red-haired girl blinks, sitting back down in her spot. "A soda opener? Well, I didn't know that existed, let alone come up with the idea." Flannery stated.
"I know, anyways…" The black-haired trainer took out her Pokeball, releasing Kirlia onto her lap.
Kirlia looked around her, seeing that they were in the Stadium for the Evergrande Conference. "Kirlia?"
Helena smiles, looking down at the Duel-type. "Kirlia, let's cheer our hardest for both Brawly and Steven." The former Witch said to her Partner.
The Duel-type nodded, agreeing with Helena's statement. "Kirlia!" Kirlia cheered.
"Now for our next Battle for the Preliminary Rounds, hailing from Deford Town, Brawly." The Commentator announced the incoming trainers. "And his opponent, hailing from Fortree City, Mila!"
"There," Roxanne points to the other end of the Battlefield, "I see Brawly!"
Flannery, Helena, and Kirlia turn to where the brunette was pointing to. Coming from the right side of the Stadium.
Brawly had a change of clothes, he wore black tight leggings and dark grey shorts with an orange streak on both sides. He wore black shoes with orange and yellow details. On his torso, he wore an orange tank top with the top Pokeball and the bottom a white streak around the bottom of his waist. On his arm was a band with the number #297.
His opponent was a green-haired girl around his age. She wore a white tank-top shirt with a yellow short-sleeve jacket with red outlines on the zipper and hem. She also has a short skirt above the calves and yellow and red running shoes with a band number #023. (Ace Trainer)
"Brawly has a new change of clothes," Helena stated, noticing the change of style of their friend.
"Well, both Steven and Brawly decide to change their clothing for the Pokemon League. It's like…to show they mature or something like that." Flannery taps her chin, remembering what the two said to her when she met up with them.
Back on the Battlefield, Brawly smirks at his opponent as the Referee stood on the stand. He raised his hand, "Each trainer will use one Pokemon each," He announced. "The Battle will be over when either side's Pokemon is unable to Battle!"
Brawly smirks, taking out his Pokeball. "Machamp, surfs up!" He tosses his Pokeball, releasing a four-armed, grey wrestler-like Pokemon.
Machamp smirks, flexing his arms. "Ma!" He flexed once more, showing his back muscle. "Machamp!"
Roxanne smiles, seeing Brawly's evolved Pokemon. "Brawly's using Machamp instead of his Partner." She commented.
"Understandable, I bet he's going to use him for the Qualifying rounds," Helena added, knowing that Brawly and Steven worked their hardest in training their Pokemon,
"Kirlia," Kirlia commented, curious about what Pokemon the other trainer had.
Mila tosses her Pokeball in her hand, "Breloom, the Battlefield's waiting!" She tossed the Pokeball out at the Battlefield,
The Pokeball released a bipedal Pokemon with sharp red claws, a tail, and a mushroom on his head.
"Breloom!" The Grass/Fighting-type cried out, ready to Battle.
The Referee raised his hand, "Battle…" He swiftly lowers it, "Begin!"

Brawly held out his hand to his Partner, "Machamp, let's start up with Bulk Up!" He ordered his Pokemon.
"Ma!" Machamp flexed his arms, his muscle grew as his attack increased. "Champ!" He flexed once more, giving him more power.
"Breloom, Swords Dance then Dynamic Punch!" Mila ordered her Partner,
"Breloom!" The Mushroom Pokemon stood tall, and translucent swords appeared and circled around him. Once his attack increased, he proceeded to launch himself at the Fighting-type Pokemon. "Bre!"
Breloom's arm glowed a dark orange hue as he rushed at Machamp. "Breloom!"
Brawly quickly acted, "Machamp, use Cross Chop to block Breloom's attack!"
"Machamp!" The Superpower Pokemon's bottom forearms glowed the same hue as Breloom's arm.
Machamp slashed through Dynamic Punch, appearing on the other side of the Mushroom Pokemon. "Ma!" He turned around and faced Breloom.
"Loom," Breloom faced Machamp too, ready to Battle.
Mila raised her hand, "Use Leaf Storm!"
Breloom raises his head, crying out loud. He calls forth a gathering of leaves before thrusting his body at Machamp.
"Endure it, Machamp!" Brawly cried out to his Partner, not having a move to defend against the Leaf Storm.
"Machamp!" Machamp covered his face and body with his arms, blocking the Leaf Storm.
"That's an interesting move Brawly made," Roxanne commented, seeing the damage Machamp is taking. "But it's a risky one for that,"
Helena nodded, "All those leaves, the only way for Machamp to defend against it is to face it head-on." The former Witch stated, understanding Brawly's strategy.
"Kirlia! Kirlia!" The Duel-type cheered on for Brawly and his Partner,
Flannery chuckles, seeing the small Pokemon cheering for their friend. "Yeah, you said it Kirlia." She turns to the Battlefield, pumping her hand in the air. "Go for it, Brawly!"
Brawly saw that his Partner was in a pinch, he held out his hand and cried. "Alright Machamp, run to the side then use Duel Chop on Breloom!" He shouted.
Machamp nodded, thrusting his arms to disburse the Leaf Storm. "Ma!" His arms then took on a greenish glow and dashed for the Mushroom Pokemon.
"Dodge it!" Mila ordered her Partner.
Machamp was on top of Breloom, slashing one of his arms at the Duel-type. "Bre," Breloom dodge the first Duel Chop while the other was coming on its way.
Breloom swiftly dodges the attack, keeping up with Machamp's speed. "Keep it going, Machamp!" Brawly cried out.
"Machamp!" Machamp increased his speed, using Duel Chop on Breloom. This went on as the two circled around where they were in front of their trainers.
"Zen Headbutt!" Mila quickly ordered her Pokemon.
Breloom's head took on a blueish hue and slammed his head into Machamp. "MA!"
Machamp staggered back, taking on damage from the Psychic-type move.
The Sky-blue haired trainer steps forward, seeing the surprise attack. "Machamp, you okay my dude?" He asked his Partner.
Machamp wiped away the damage he had taken and huffed, "Machamp," He looked back at his Partner, very pumped with the Battle.
"That's what I'm talking about, Machamp!" Brawly grins, punching the air.
Mila chuckles, seeing that Machamp still hasn't fallen. "Alright, Breloom! Use Leaf Storm again!" She ordered.
"Bre!" Breloom stood straight, generating a storm of leaves around him before releasing them at the Fighting-type Pokemon. "Loom!"
"Then Zen Headbutt!" Mila continued with her orders.
Breloom's head took on a blueish hue once more before rushing at Machamp. The Duel-type was at the center of the Leaf Storm, doing a combo move.
Brawly smirks, seeing the same trick as before. "A combo move, rad," He commented, liking the thrill of a strong opponent.
The Fighting-type user held out his hand at his Partner, "Machamp, hold out!"
Machamp spread out his legs, his arms ready to catch the incoming Breloom.
"BRELOOM!" The Mushroom Pokemon propels through the Leaf Storm
The Superpower Pokemon held out through the Leaf Storm and grabbed onto Breloom. "Machamp," He smirks, holding his opponent by the shoulders.
"Breloom!" Mila was caught off guard by how Machamp grabbed onto his Partner.
Brawly smirks, raising his hand. "Seismic Toss!"
Machamp grins, still holding onto Breloom's shoulders. He began to spin around, dragging the Duel-type with him. "Ma!"
The Superpower Pokemon picked up speed, spinning rapidly and still holding onto Breloom. "Bre…BRE!"
"Breloom! Hold out!" Mila cried out, seeing the situation her Pokemon was in.
"Do it!" Brawly cried out to his Partner.
Machamp spun rapidly before tossing Breloom in the air. "MACHAMP!" He leaps in the air, approaching the Duel-type Pokemon.
Mila moved her hands, seeing what the Fighting-type was planning. "Breloom, dodge it!" She cried out.
"Bre-" Breloom tried to adjust himself in the air, however, he was interrupted by Machamp locking his arms onto him. "LOOM!"
Machamp backflipped in the air, still holding onto Breloom in his arms. He falls to the Battlefield until they slam into the ground, creating a dust cloud. (End Song)
Everyone looked at the Battlefield intensely, waiting for it to clear for the victor.
Brawly and Mila stare at the Battlefield like everyone in the audience. Both were waiting for their Pokemon to come out victorious over the other.
The Sky-blue haired boy clenches his fist, seeing a silhouette rising within the cloud. "(Come on, Champ, stand up…)" He whispers, having faith in his Partner.
Soon the dust cloud cleared, revealing a grey four-arm Pokemon. Machamp stood above Breloom with spirals in his eyes.
The crowd cheered for Brawly and Machamp's victory in the Preliminary Round.
The Referee raised his hand to Brawly's side of the Battlefield, "Breloom's unable to battle, the victor is Machamp!" He announced to the Stadium, causing an uproar of cheers for Brawly's victory.
"An amazing Battle to witness in the Preliminary Rounds." The Commentator announced; everyone looked at the monitor, where Brawly's photo moved up to the Qualifying Rounds. "This Battle has guaranteed Brawly a spot in the Qualifying Rounds. He will be moving onward with the trainers who passed the Preliminary Rounds."
Flannery held her fist excitedly for her Sky-blue haired friend's victory. "Way to go Brawls! Just Steven left to go!" The red-haired girl stated, pumped, that one of her friends is going to the Qualifying Rounds.
"You're sure pumped up for this, Flannery." Helena looks at her friend, smiling at her excitement.
"Well yeah, Ellie. If both Steven and Brawly are in the Qualifying Round, then it'll be epic!" The fiery girl exclaimed, excited to see what would happen between the boys.
Helena paused, realizing that there was a chance both Brawly and Steven will face each other for the right to face Wallace. "I didn't realize that was a possibility,"
"Kirlia?" Kirlia looked up at her Partner, curious why she thought that. She knew that both trainers were strong. That at some point they'd be facing each other at some point.
"Is that really a surprise, Ellie?" Roxanne looked at the black-haired girl. "The boys trained their butts off for the Conferences, even the simulation Battles at the school can't keep up with them."
Helena remembers watching those two Battle other trainers at the school. And she had to admit, both Steven and Brawly are strong. "Yeah, but the problem is…who are we going to cheer for?" She asked her friends.
Both Roxanne and Flannery looked at each other before smirking at the former Witch. "Both of course!" They said in unison.
