Ch 44 The Champion of Hoenn Pt 2

The morning Sun shines over the Capital City of Hoenn, and people were getting up from their beds for today's event. After Helena took a shower, she puts on a white blouse, a green undershirt, a pink skirt, white shoes, and a pink sweatshirt,

Helena decided to change her look since her friends changed their outfits.

Roxanne wore a white shirt and pink tie over a blue jacket. She has a grey skirt, leggings, and strap shoes.

Flannery wore a black shirt, covering her top with the Fire-type Symbol at the center, blue jeans, and red shoes.

Brawly, Steven, and Wallace still wore the same outfits from the Evergrande Conference.

Helena stood before the window fixing her appearance. She tied her hair in a ponytail, looking at it to see if there was any strand out of place. "What do you think? Anything out of place?" She asked her Pokemon behind her.

Dratini cries in approval of the outfit her trainer has on.

"Hat! Hatenna!" Hatenna also approved of what Helena was wearing,

Kirlia ponders, looking at her Partner from head to toe. "Kirlia!" The Emotions Pokemon used Psychic to pull out the hair tie from her ponytail. Helena's hair flows down back in place and has grown a bit over the past months. "Kirlia," She nodded, now approving the look.

"So you want my hair down like before, Kirlia?" Helena asked her Partner who nodded in response.

"Kirlia!" Kirlia exclaims, raising her arm in the air.

Both Dratini and Hatenna agreed with their trainer's main Partner, liking the hair down she has.

Helena giggled, seeing that her three Pokemon all agree on what Kirlia has done to her ears. "Okay, okay," She held her hands out to her Pokemon, "I get it, you like it better with my hair down." She sighs before getting the hairbrush on the bed and combing through her locks.

After neatly combing her hair, Helena looked up and heard the bathroom door open. "Man, I really need that shower!" Flannery walks out of the bathroom, tying her hair into her usual messy ponytail.

"Hmm? Where's Roxanne?" Flannery asked Helena, looking at her.

"Roxanne went ahead to the cafeteria with Brawly and Steven," Helena said, returning her Pokemon to their Pokeballs. "I'm pretty sure she said something about getting an early seating before it gets packed." She said, repeating what their friend said before it gets crowded." She informed the red-haired girl.

"Ah, that's right it's the day that Wallace and Steven are happening today," Flannery commented, realizing what event is happening today.

Helena nodded, approaching Flannery near the door. "There's going to be a lot of people coming to watch the match." She said as the two exited their Hotel room, "It's going to be packed, I hope our seats weren't taken."

Flannery placed her hands behind her head while walking beside Helena. "I don't think we need to worry about that, Ellie. As long as you have a friend or somewhat have connections with someone big then your seat is fine." The red-haired girl said, "Those seats were in a package deal when you have friends who are participating in the Gym Challenge. I'm just lucky I'm still considered a Gym Challenger despite me not getting the Rain Badge."

"Yeah, that was lucky for you," Helena commented "Good thing Brawly and Steven gave their tickets to me and Roxanne. But I'm curious how Jackie got in,"

"He did say he's going to the Ranger School. The League and the Pokemon Rangers work closely together," Flannery explains to the black-haired girl. "So there must be some benefits that students at the Ranger School have."

Helena nodded before noticing a familiar face walking to the elevator from the other side of the hall. "Professor Ceder!" She waved at the blue and blonde-haired young man.

Adam Ceder wore an open blue jacket with golden diamonds in his pockets, black pants, and blue shoes with golden straps. His hair was still in a messy ponytail with a blue strand dangling down his face.

The Professor raises his sunglasses, seeing two of his students coming from their room. "Well, good morning, Flannery, Helena, going to grab some breakfast?" Adam asked the two trainers before him.

"That's right, Professor! Everyone is down there already saving us a seat," Flannery smiles at the Professor. "You're going to the Cafeteria too, Professor Ceder?" She asked,

"Maybe later, I have a meeting with the Chairwoman about my recent secret research," Adam explains to the girl,

"Recent research? Sounds interesting, what is it?" Helena asked, curious about what the Professor was researching.

Adam chuckles, placing his finger on his lips. "Now that would be telling, Ms. Potter." The mixed-haired Researcher winks at the girls.

The two chuckle at their Professor joking with them. "Anyways, Helena I wanted to speak with you about something," Adam said, looking at the aspiring Researcher. "It won't take long, it's about your apprenticeship,"

"Oh, um…" Helena looks at Flannery, unsure of what to do.

Flannery pats Helena's shoulder, "Hey, it won't take long. I'll be with everyone else," The red-haired girl enters the elevator, leaving her friend to the Professor.

Helena looks up at Adam Ceder, waiting for whatever he has to tell her. "Professor?"

Adam cleared his throat, placing his other hand on his side. "Helena, there are many ways to become a Pokemon Researcher, many go to University here in Evergrande City." The mixed-haired Professor said, "But since you accepted my apprenticeship, you have an easy way to becoming a Researcher."

"I sense a but, in that sentence," The former Witch said,

"Now, now, there's no need for inappropriate langue Helena." Adam winks before getting serious. "Anyways, at the end of the apprenticeship, you need to pass a test on the subject you researched at Naranja Academy in the Paldea Region."

Helena blinks, unsure what they need to travel to the Paldea Region. "Wait, why Paldea? Shouldn't I take the test here in the Hoenn Region?" She asked her now mentor,

Adam raised his finger, having the answer already. "Ah, that's an easy question to answer." He smiles at the former Witch. "I went to Naranja Academy when I was on my Journey, and it helped me realize that I wanted to be a Researcher."

"I learned many there, I figured that the last destination on the Research Trip would be worthwhile," Adam explains what to expect on the trip.

"I see, if the trip is anything like your class in the Trainer School, then it'll be fun." Helena smiles, excited to be on this trip with her new mentor.

Adam chuckles, seeing the excitement on the young trainer's face. "Well, look forward to it, Helena." He said with enthusiasm before pressing the elevator button. "Anyways, I kept you long enough. Go on and join your friends down at the Cafeteria,"

Helena nodded, entering the elevator with her mentor.

After meeting with everyone at the Cafeteria and having their Breakfast alongside their Pokemon.

Soon after Breakfast, everyone went down to the Stadium where Steven will challenge Wallace for the title of Hoenn League Champion.

"Oh, it seems you're right Flannery." Helena sat down in the same seat as before, "Our seats weren't taken by someone else,"

Flannery smirks at the black-haired trainer, "See? I told you there's nothing to worry about, Ellie." The red-haired girl said.

Brawly looks over to the two girls, overhearing their conversation. "Helena was thinking that our seats were going to be snatched by someone else?" The Fighting-type trainer asked Flannery.

The red-haired girl looks at Brawly, chuckling at how he was right on the mark. "Yeah, Ellie thought since there's a lot of people here, the seating will be full, and some might take ours," Flannery replied to Brawly's question.

Everyone laughs, including Helena at her small confusion with the seating.

Jackie patted Helena's shoulders, "It's all right, everyone gets confused with things sometimes." The blonde commented, looking at the black-haired girl,

"Oh I know, " Helena smiles, "I was laughing at how Brawly was spot on," She commented, looking at the Sky-blue haired boy.

"Right on," Brawly smirked,

Soon Roxanne noticed that the Pokemon League Chairwoman walking to the center of the Battlefield. Following behind her was the Kanto Champion, Red, "Look, it's starting soon!"

Helena took out Kirlia's Pokeball, releasing her Partner onto her lap. Kirlia looks up, smiling at her Partner upon her release, "Kirlia, this is Steven's final stretch before he becomes the Champion. This time, let's cheer him on with everything we got."

"Kirlia!" The Emotion Pokemon agreed with her trainer

Blanche approached the center of the Battlefield; Red was following behind her as they waved to the crowds.

The Rotom Drones flew over to the Battlefield, projecting the two important people onto the monitor.

"The day has finally arrived, the day when the Challenger Steven Stone will challenge Wallace Mitchell," The white-haired woman announced to the audience.

Inside the locker room, Steven took a deep breath, both excited and nervous about the Battle.

The Steel-blue haired boy could hear the Chairwoman making her opening announcement to the people in the audience.

"Meta!" Steven looks over to his Pokemon team, each one is ready to go on the Battlefield for their final Battle. Each one of his Pokemon cheered, having confidence that they will win this Battle.

Steven smiles at his Pokemon gathered around him. "Thanks, everyone. We will win this and become the strongest in Hoenn." He appreciates that each one of them believes that they can win this Battle. He stands up, hears the opening announcement, and is about to call them to him out.

A League Staff entered the locker room, and he then spotted Steven with his Pokemon. "Steven, five minutes until you get called." He informed the Steel-blue haired boy.

Steven nodded, "Got it." He replied.

"Cray," Cradily extends one of her tendrils to her trainer, gesturing to the doors.

"I know, Cradily. It's almost time for us to go out." Steven took out his Pokeballs, aiming them at his Pokemon. "All right, return everyone." With his Pokemon Partners back inside their Pokeballs, Steven heads towards the door.

"…Now please welcome our Challenger to the Battlefield," The doors opened, allowing Steven to walk through them. "Steven Stone!"

Steven walks out of the locker room as the Rotom Drones hover above him. He waves at the cameras as the crowds cheered for him,

"There he is!" Flannery points to the soon-to-be Champion.

"YOU CAN DO IT STEVEN!" Brawly shouted, cheering for him to win and claim the title of Champion.

Steven arrived at the platform on the Challenger side of the Battlefield. He looks at the two on the Battlefield, nodding at Red and Blanche,

The Rotom Drone went back to the two, placing them back on the monitors. "Now, defending his title, please welcome the current Champion," Blanche motions her hand to the other end of the Battlefield,

Stairs appeared on the other side of the Battlefield, leading to the Champion's Tower. A bridge appeared from the windows leading to the stadium. The windows opened, allowing Wallace to walk on the bridge.

The crowd cheers upon seeing the teal-haired Champion; his white cape, the mantle of the Hoenn League Champion flows in the wind.

Steven watches as his Rival makes his way down the stairs, approaching the platform on his side.

Once Wallace was on the platform, Blanche stepped off the Battlefield and Red took his position on the Referee stand.

"Well, this is it, Steven," Wallace smirks, both of his hands on his side. "Are you ready to face the last obstacle of you becoming Champion of the Hoenn Region?" The current Champion asked the Challenger before him.

"You know, I always had a feeling you were hiding something back at school," Steven said, smiling at the teal-haired, taking out his first Pokeball. "You never participate in the simulation Battles nor accept any challenges other than the Contest Battles."

Wallace could only smirk at Steven's deduction about him at the Trainer School. "But it never came to me that you were the Champion." Steven continued, "A perfect scenario for a Battle for the title of Champion."

"Wow, is that really how you feel, Steven?" Wallace held his chin, listening to what the Steel-blue haired trainer said. He smirks at him, appreciating the words he spoke, "The only thing I could do as a response is to give you a Battle that you would remember."

Steven chuckles, "I expect nothing less."

The Hoenn Champion looks over to the Kanto, nodding at him to proceed with the Battle.

"…." Red nodded in return, raising his hand before lowering it, signaling to the two trainers that the Battle had begun.

"Skarmory, you're up!" Steven extends his arms forward, tossing his Skamrory's Pokeball onto the Battlefield.

The Pokeball released Skarmory flying into the Battlefield. She screeched, ready to take on the Champion's first Pokemon.

"Skarmory, it's been a good minute since I last saw you." The teal-haired boy greeted Steven's first Pokemon,

Wallace took out his first Pokeball in response to Steven's choice, "Alright my beautiful Pokemon, it's time for a dazzling Battle!" He twirls around for a dramatic effect, "Starmie, it's time to shine!"

The Champion tossed his Pokeball onto the field, releasing a familiar sight to Steven and the others. The Mysterious Pokemon spun around, ready to Battle Steven and his Pokemon.

"Staring off with Starmie, Wallace?" Steven asked, smirking, that he has seen all that the Water/Psychic-type has to offer. "I already know what Moves she has."

"Really? Then I hope you are prepared, Steven, because I might surprise you." The Champion smirks, knowing that Steven saw Starmie's Move set during the Sootoplis City Pokemon Contest.

Challenger Steven Stone/ Skarmory vs Hoenn League Champion Wallace Mitchell/Starmie

"Alright, Skarmory use Spikes quickly!" Steven took the first move, quickly setting up his strategy.

Skarmory flew above the Battlefield, releasing Spikes onto the Battlefield.

Wallace chuckles, catching what Steven was planning. "I knew you would set up with Spikes." The Champion stated before holding out his hand to his Partner. "Starmie, Rapid Spin then use Hydro Pump at the same time!"

Starmie went into action, spinning around rapidly, bursting jets of water from the tips of her arms. The Hydro Pump was bursting at every point on the Battlefield, the water was gathering the Spikes laid out by Skarmory in the streams.

However, that wasn't the only thing the Hydro Pump was affecting. Skarmory was struggling just to evade the water, but the jets of water hit her at every little opening it got.

Back in the audience, everyone was dazzled by their Champion's counter and attack on Skarmory and her Spikes.

"Now that was interesting, I expect nothing from Wallace," Jackie commented, catching what he was planning.

"What did he do, Jackie?" Helena asked, unsure what their friend did.

The blonde looks over to Helena, explaining what the Champion did. "Isn't it obvious? Wallace used a combination of Hydro Pump and Rapid Spin to wash away the Spikes." Jackie explained to her.

Helena understood what Wallace did, "Now I see, that is smart." She commented.

Roxanne chuckles, adding her thoughts to the conversation. "I guess that training with Juan and those Contests developed some new tricks in Wallace's sleeves."

Back on the Battlefield, things weren't looking good for Steven and Skarmory. "Well, it seems I have foiled your little setup, Steven," Wallace smirks, looking at his Rival,

Steven looked up at his opponent, he gritted his teeth at his setup for the rest of the Battle was gone in a snap. He took a deep breath and proceeded with his Battle plan.

"Skarmory, forget he Spikes! Use Steel Wing on Starmie!" Steven said,

Skarmory nodded, flying over as her wings took on a metallic color. She screeched then dove down and hurled towards the Mysterious Pokemon.

Wallace smirks, holding out his hand. "Blind Skarmory with Dazzling Gleam!" He ordered his Pokemon.

Starmie leaps in the air, her gem begins to glow before shining a bright colorful light spreading throughout the Battlefield.

Skarmory screeched, blinded by the Fairy-type move. "Skarmory, no!" Steven steps forward, seeing the Armor Bird Pokemon fall to the ground.

The light subsided as the Duel-type landed in front of Skarmory.

Skarmory staggered as she tried to get up. "Can you keep going?" Steven asked, shouting from his end of the Battlefield.

Skarmory looks back at her trainer, nodding in response to his question.

"Then let's pick up where we left off! Drill Peck, let's go!" The Steel-blue haired trainer shouted,

With a quick response, Skarmory took to the air as her beak took on a light blue hue. The aura began to spin rapidly as she dove back down to Starmie.

"Nice try, but I'll defend like before." Wallace held out his hand to Starmie once more, "Like before, Dazzling Gleam!" He shouted,

Starmie leaps into the air, her gem glowed before releasing a rainbow light.

"Shut your eyes and keep going, Skarmory!" Steven cried out, hoping that she'll be able to get past the Dazzling Gleam.

In a snap, Skarmory got past the Dazzling Gleam and strike Starmie in the gem.

Starmie was sent flying, landing on her back by the impact of the Drill Beak. "Starmie, are you alright!?" Wallace asked, seeing the direct hit by Skarmory.

Steven punched the air, smiling that Skarmory landed a hit. "Yes! Great job, Skarmory!" He praises his Pokemon.

Starmie stood up, recovering from the attack. The Champion smiles at how durable his Pokemon was, "If you can stand then that's good for me, Starmie." Wallace got a serious expression on his face, "Alright, time to get serious. Starmie, use Blizzard!" He shouted.

Starmie leaps into the air, spinning around rapidly as a strong Blizzard blew from the spin.

The Blizzard wasn't that effective on Skarmory's Duel-typing; however, the strong winds were off-balancing her in the air.

Steven saw his Pokemon was struggling to keep still due to the strong winds. "Skarmory, focus and you'll be alright!" The Steel-blue haired trainer said, trying to calm his Pokemon.

"Steel-types aren't affected by an Ice-type move, however strong winds can affect a Flying-type Pokemon's balance while in the air," Wallace commented, seeing the Armor Bird Pokemon's struggle.

"A perfect opening for an attack!" Wallace swiftly went into action, commanding his Partner in Battle. "Rapid Spin, Starmie!" He smiles,

Starmie spun rapidly and dashed forward, slamming into the struggling Skarmory.

Skarmory screeched as she fell back to the ground, "Skarmory, no!" Steven steps forward, seeing his Pokemon impact the ground hard.

Starmie returns to her side of the Battlefield, looking at the unconscious Duel-type Pokemon.

"…" Red raised his hand towards Wallace's side, indicating that he won the round.

"Skarmory, return." Steven aimed Skarmory's Pokeball at his Partner. He looks at Wallace's Starmie, knowing that she's stronger than the last time he saw her. 'I gotta figure out how to deal with Starmie. But how…' He thought.

Wallace chuckles, placing his hands on his hip, "Well? Are you going to bring out your next Pokemon, Steven?" The teal-haired Champion asked.

Steven sighs, going with his instincts and bringing out his next Pokemon. "Go!" He tosses his Pokeball onto the field, releasing his next Pokemon.
