CH 4
Two days later Mike and Kate watch the news about what happened and that the clinic is trying to locate the missing couples. Later that night Mike and Kate were bed kissing passionately when she pulled back. "Kate what's wrong"
"I just remember something Mike"
"what"
"The day of the implantation was done, Maxine white was also there having it done. Mike calls Stewart and tells him if he hasn't seen the news."
"OK, good idea" Mike sat up in bed reach over and pick up his cell phone and call Stewart. he put it on speaker phone.
"hello"
"Stewart it Mike sorry for calling so late"
"Mike hey how are you, it's been a while, congrats on the birth of your son, how is Kate doing"
"they both are great. Listen Stewart, have you seen the news tonight"
"no why"
"Has the Sydney fertility clinic been in contact with you"
"no why"
"there was a mix up with seman on the eighth of June nineteen ninety one"
"what does that have to do with me?"
"Maxine has been to the clinic to have the IVF done. I didn't know you two were having problems trying to have a child"
"what, mike what the hell are you talking about"
"Stewart, it's Kate. Maxine told me, Brain and Janet Johnson that she was there to have the implantation done and she dropped off a cup with your seman off and waiting to have the implantation done"
"Mike Kate, I never knew anything about this IVF or Maxine asking me to give in the cup ever" Mike and Kate look at each other in shock.
"then if you're not the boy's father then who seman did she use?" Kate said.
"Stewart go and get a DNA test done to find out if you are the boy's father"
"I will Mike. If I'm not the father, then who"
"good question Stewart." Mike said.
"thanks for calling me Mike, Kate, i'll talk to you both soon" then he hung up.
"Mike called Maxine and found out what she has to say" Mike then called Maxine.
"hello"
"Maxine, it's Mike"
"hi Mike this is a surprise"
"Yeah I have to ask, have you received any letters from the sydney fertility clinic or seen it on the news?"
"No, why would I go to the clinic?" Mike and Kate look at each in shock from what Maxine just said.
"Maxine, it's Kate. Brian and Janet told Mike and me that they got a letter from the clinic and it was on the news. There was a semen mixup"
"What does that have to do with me"
"Does the eighth of June nineteen ninety one mean anything to you?" Kate said. Maxine thought about it
"No but you know what it means Kate" Kate shook her head
"Maxine that is the day that Janet had the two eggs implanted where she had the twins. You were there also having it done" Maxine thought about it and remembered she was shocked that Janet, Brian and Kate were at the clinic at the time she was there.
"Oh, I now remember. You said seman mix up"
"Yes, the clinic accidentally mixed two semen up. From what Brian and Jant told us. that one couple had a DNA test done on their daughter to see if she was a perfect match for a family member for bone marrow. that is when they learn that the father isn't the boilocail father. They were at the clinic the same day to have the IVF done. The clinic needs to find six couples who they have been trying to track down. It seems you and Stewart are one of the couples" Kate said
"Oh… Ah. Thanks for calling me. I'll give the clinic a call tomorrow"
"Ok Maxine," Mike Said.
"Maxine gave Stewart a call so he can have a DNA test done to make sure that he is the boy's father so your guy's name is crossed off the list" Kate said. Mike gave her a strange look.
"Yeah i will do that, thanks for calling" then she hung up. Mike presses a couple of buttons and puts it on the bed side draws then he turns to Kate.
"Why did you tell Maxine to call Stewart about the DNA testing"
"I want to hear what her reaction is going to be Mike. After what Stewart said before, how he had no idea that Maxine had been going to the fertility clinic and he hasn't given his semen in a cup to Maxine"
"Your right Kate it seems that the seman belongs to someone else but i have no idea who it might be"
"I agree and what is worse Mike is that when Stewart learns that he is not the father of the boys, it is going to upset the boys and they will be wondering who is their father"
"that is true." Kate put her hand up to his face.
"Mike no matter what happens, we will be there for the boys"
"I agree Kate and Maxine will have a lot of explaining to do"
"I agree"
Week later Mike returns back to HMAS Darwin while Kate is on maternity leave for three months.
Week later while at home the phone rings. "Kate Flynn hello"
"Kate is Stewart White, is Mike there"
"hi Stewart, Sorry Mike back on Darwin, is there something i can help you with"
"Can you let Mike know that i had the test done. I'm not the boy's father"
"Do Maxine and the boys know?"
"Yes, the boy's was shocked but Maxine wasn't."
"Maxine wasn't. That means she knows who the boy's father is"
"she does but not telling me or the boys. But there are more"
"more what do you mean more?"
"I spoke to Brian and Janet at the clinic when I was given the results. Everything is really confusing right now"
"What is it"
"Brian and Janet twins, Kate you're not their mother" Kate was shocked with the news.
"what then who"
"the clinic is going to try to find out where your eggs went to. Because of this. every couple and kids got to be retested"
"My gosh is that including the boys?"
"No since they already got their DNA. All they need is the mother's DNA"
"I hope they can get it all sorted out"
"Same here." They talk for a few more minutes before hanging up.
Kate called and talked to Brian and Janet for fifteen minutes before hanging up then went to check on MJ who woke up crying.
Two weeks later Kate's phone rings. "Kate Flynn hello"
"Kate it Janet"
"hi Janet are you ok"
"Yeah Brain and I received some shocking news about the DNA test results"
"What is it, do you know who the mother is"
"Yeah, we are still trying to get over the shock. Kate the DNA results showed that i'm their mother" Kate was shocked with the news.
"What but you can't have children"
"That's what I thought so to Kate but after doing some checking, it turns out that i was already pregnant when i had the implantation done. But somehow it didn't work but it's amazing that I didn't lose the twins"
"Wow this is shocking and surprising news"
"Yeah same for us. Stewart called, the clinic does not have Patrick and Ryan father DNA since that Maxine not saying who the father is"
"There is one way to find out and that is for the clinic to contact the hospital cause they got a large DNA donation database. Perhaps that father's DNA is on their records"
"That's a great idea, it's worth a try, I'll call them about it"
"Ok and congratulations on being the twins mother."
"Thanks, Brian and I are going to tell them tonight"
"ok, take care"
"I will" then they hung up.
"Wow, talk about a shocker and a half" She said looking down at MJ who was looking up at her while having his feed.
Few days later Kate and MJ were on the navy dock when Darwin came into port. Kate watched and waited with some family members. When the ship docked MJ woke up So Kate picked him up from his stroller and checked to see if he had a wet diaper or not.
It was wet so she changed his diaper on the wharf and cleaned up then picked him up since he was in his stroller. She noticed he was looking at the ship which made her smile.
When the crew started leaving she watched and waited till she saw Mike walk off the ship. "MJ here daddy" MJ smiled at Kate then looked around till Mike was close and kissed Kate then their son's head.
"This is a surprise," Mike said.
"do you like it"
"Yes I do. You can surprise me any time." MJ makes a nose. "Hello there, i haven't forgotten you"
Mike put his sea bag in the stroller then Kate passed MJ to him. "I miss you and your mummy so much" Mike kissed his cheek then held him close while looking at smiling Kate as he wrapped his free arm around her waist and kissed her.
"I miss you." mike said.
"I miss you Mike, let's go home sailor" Mike grinned.
"Why not and you can fill me in, on what has been happening"
"Why not?" Kate pushes the stroller while Mike carries their son in his arms as they walk towards the car park.
When they arrived home Kate breastfeed MJ while Mike sorted out his sea bag and checked his mail. when done, he walked into MJ's room where Kate was breast feeding him. He sat down on the foot stool close to Kate's feet while watching MJ having his feed, then he looked up to Kate, seeing her smile while looking at him.
"Mike are you ok"
"Yeah, missing watching you feed our son"
"I miss you watching also Mike, it's good to have you home even if it is for a few nights"
"same here. so care to tell me what has been happening"
"a lot Mike. and i'm glad you are sitting down"
"what is is"
"Janet and Brian, they learn that they are the biological parents of the twins"
"What, you're not the mother?" Mike said in shock.
"No, Janet is, it turns out she was already pregnant when she had the implantation done"
"Really, I guess they were shocked"
"Yes they were and happy. They went to the lawyers and managed to get the birth certificate changed since they got DNA proof that Janet is the mother and not me"
"Ok, what about Stewart and Maxine?"
"Stewart isn't the boy's father, the clinic is trying to find out who the father is. so far nothing, not not on the donor's DNA list so the person isn't a doner"
"Ok Well hopefully they can find out who the father is"
"Yeah since Maxine is not saying who it is"
"True" they talk till MJ has his feed and is almost asleep.
After he was put in his basket Mike and Kate walk out of his room and into the kitchen while they talk some more about it and other things. That night they made passionate love which they both missed and craved for.
During the next few days they do what normal couples do. till Darwin left for a six week patrol. Kate and MJ were on the wharf seeing Mike off then Kate went to do some shopping then return home.
A Month later Kate returned back to her shore posting while MJ was at the day care center which was close by the navy base since over half of the kids got navy parents. It didn't take long for Kate to get in a new routine between home and work.
When Darwin returned back from its patrol Kate smiled when Mike walked into the ballpen and over to her. "Mike welcome back"
"thanks Kate." he gives her a kiss.
"So what can I do for you"
"Have you done any grocery shopping" Since he knew what day Kate does the shopping.
"I was going to do it after work why"
"I'll do the shopping"
"Mike Flynn, what are you up to?" Mike smiles then kisses Kate.
"you will have to wait and see"
"hmm, i wonder" she stood up. They walk down to the locker room where Kate got her grocery list out of her bag and passed it to Mike. "Here is a list of things I was planning on getting"
"I'll take care of it"
"thanks Mike, i better get back to work"
"Ok see you when you and MJ arrive home" they kiss and parted ways.
that night when Kate walks in the door carrying MJ in her arms. "Mike, we're home" Kate called out as she closed and locked the door just as Mike showed up.
"Hey how has your day been?"
"busy"
"ok here give me MJ while you go and get change"
"Ok" she passed Mike their son and bag then she went to get change while Mike talked to MJ.
Hour later MJ was in his cot sleeping and Mike and Kate enjoyed their evening with chinese dinner, dessert and bottle of wine while soft music was playing in the background. They talk about different things. Later that night they made love before falling asleep with Kate snuggling up to Mike's side.
