CH 6
Later that night at Mike and Kate's place they were enjoying dinner that Mike cooked up while Kate was at work. "Mike, I've been thinking about Ryan and Duncan"
"Same here, what can we do besides being there for them?"
"Well I made a couple of calls about the situation, there are two things. one we could take Maxine to family court to gain full custody of the boys after what she has done, and another is have the birth certificate change since we got DNA evidence proving that we are their parents"
"The birth certificate, I do agree but the custody, that a tricky one because it will also affect Stewart." Kate thought about it.
"You are right about that. we need to get more legal advice on what to do plus we need to talk to the boys"
"I agree Kate"
Later that night Mike phone rings which woke them both us "Mike" Kate said sleepy
"It's Stewart." Then he looked at the clock to see it was after one in the morning. "Stewart what wrong mate… what, what happened… do you know they might have gone… no they are not here… ok, have you called the airlines… ok. thanks for calling me… yeah i'll make some calls this end… sure, thanks for calling Stewart." then they hung up.
"Mike, what's wrong?"
"Duncan and Ryan went missing. last time they were seen leaving the navy base after confronting Maxine about what happened. Maxine was getting worried about them and notices their clothes and other things missing from the house and thinks that the boys have gone back to Stewart place. so she called him. He told her that he hasn't seen them since he put them on the plane"
"What where could they go, what about flying back to sydney"
"He called the air lines, nothing. Same with the bus and train. Nothing"
"Mike where could they have gone to" Kate said in a worried tone. Mike pulled her into his arms
"I don't know Kate" Then they heard the doorbell ring.
Mike got up and put his briefs and robe on before walking out of the bedroom. Kate went and put her nightie and robe on and followed Mike out to the door. he looked through the peephole then turned to Kate just as he unlocked the door and opened it
"Ryan, Duncan," Mike said
"Can we come in?" Ryan asked.
"Of course you two can," they walk in only to be engulfed by Kate hugging them both.
"My god, you boys had Stewart, Maxine and us all worried" Kate stepped back and looked at them both.
"What mum… Maxine worried, yeah right." Duncan said. as the boys put their bags down in the corner before they sat down in the living room.
"Stewart called about ten minutes ago asking if we heard or seen you boys since yesterday. He told me that Maxine called him wanting you two back. He had no idea what she was going on about. She told him that you both confronted her in front of other staff at fleet command."
"We did, now everyone there knows about what was done to you, to us. Rear Admiral wondering if you are going to take action against mum for what she did to you years ago."
"I don't know Kate and I will need to talk about it"
"Dad said that the fertility clinic was going to be suing mum for what she did"
"What do you mean?" mike asked.
"When she signed the papers she lied to who the sperm belonged to and she forged dad's signature on the papers as well," Duncan said.
"Look how we talk about this in the morning. I can see you both are tired. I'll go and make up your boys room while you both call Stewart and let him know where you are" Kate said as she stood up and walked towards a door.
"good idea Kate" Then he turned to the boys. "You better give Stewart a call." Ryan got his phone out of his pocket and turned it on. He dialed Stewart phone
"Hey dad it's Ryan… yeah Duncan and i are ok… we are at uncle Mike and auntie Kate place…. not long… We will be ok dad, we need time to get over the shocked with every thing that happen in the past couple of days… yeah i know we should of called you sooner but Duncan and i need time and space… yes we will dad… we going to talk more later… sure he here" Ryan pass the phone to Mike
"Stewart… yeah i know mate. give them time… yeah i know, i'll call you in a couple of days… I'll call her… sure night Stewart" then he hung up and passed the phone back to Ryan. "Stewart is going to call Maxine to let her know that you boys are ok and he is not going to tell her where you are cause he is going to leave that up to your both"
"thanks, last time we ran away from home was when mum and dad were arguing and we couldn't handle it"
"I know, you came to my place and spent the weekend with me"
"I remember" Duncan said.
"Same here" Ryan said they would talk for a few more minutes till Kate returned. She and Mike gave the boys a hug good night before returning back to their bedroom for the night.
Five minutes later Kate was snuggling up to Mike's side. "mike"
"Yeah"
"We need to look for a bigger place" Mike smiles and kisses her forehead.
"I agree, we will talk more tomorrow"
"Good idea." They closed their eyes and fell into peaceful sleep.
The next morning Kate kisses Mike before Mike passes MJ to her. "see you tonight Mike"
"Ok have a good day at work and you mister behave yourself" MJ grinned at Mike.
"He is always a good boy Mike"
"I know"
"Let me know tonight about the talk with the boys"
"Will do Kate, love you" he kisses her once more.
"Love you to" Mike watches Kate walk out the door with MJ and his bag in hand.
When the boys walked out of the bedroom they were still sleepy. "Morning," Mike said.
"Morning auntie Kate gone to work?"
"Yep, you know where everything is in the kitchen"
"Yeah" they went and got themselves some late breakfast. When they finished and cleaned up they walked into the living room and sat down.
"Uncle Mike, what is going to happen to Duncan and me? Now we know that you and auntie are our real parents" Ryan said.
"It is a tricky situation. I've spoken to my brother in law"
"Andrew, I remember him as a lawyer," Ryan said.
"Yes that's right. I spoke to him about what happened and found out what Kate and my rights are. He is going to talk to a colleague who specializes in family court cases and will get back to me."
"OK" They talk about what the boys want to do while going for a walk along the waterfront and have lunch in town.
That night When Kate walks in the door carrying MJ in her arms, Mike walks over to her, taking MJ out of her arms and giving her a kiss. "How was your day?" Mike asked.
"Busy, how has your day been"
"Busy, we will talk later"
"Ok where are Ryan and Duncan?"
"In the kitchen cooking dinner. I better get back in there" Kate smile
"I'll go and get change while you change MJ"
"Why" Kate smiles as she walks down and into their bedroom while Mike looks at MJ and sniffs the air. "Wow, you do need changing." Mike walks into MJ's room where he changes his son's smelly diaper.
when Kate walks into the kitchen "something smells good"
"thanks, where is MJ?" Ryan asked as she stirred the sauce.
"Mike changing his diaper," She said, smiling.
"diaper, ok"
"So what did you two and Mike do today?" They talk for ten minutes when Mike walks into the kitchen holding MJ in his arms.
"Are you ok" Duncan asked Mike.
"I will be"
"What's wrong?" Ryan asked.
"Nothing I can handle." He looks at Kate who passes him a bowl that has baby food in it while smiling at him.
"joys of parenthood Mike"
"Yeah you could have told me"
"Then you would try getting out of it" she kisses him then walks over to the stove.
"What was that about?" Duncan asked.
"I changed MJ's smelly diaper," Mike said. making Ryan and Duncan laugh
"Oh it must of been bad" Ryan said.
"Well nothing compares to you two when you were his age"
"What do you mean?" Duncan asked.
"You both picked up a bug and you both had the runs. Boy it was that bad Stewart and I almost need a gas mask" they all laugh.
"Well, you got some experience in changing diapers," Kate said.
"Yeah, I better get this one feed." Mike walked over to the dining room table and sat down to feed MJ. He looked over to Kate to see the sad look on her face and he knew he would talk to her later.
Later that night after the boys were in bed. Mike returns to the living room carrying a cup of coffee in hand. he passes one to Kate before sitting down next to her. "Kate are you ok"
"What do you mean, Mike?" she asked as she took a sip of her drink.
"Early tonight we were talking about changing diapers. I notice the look on your face"
"Oh that. yes i was sad cause i miss out on so much with our sons. Even though I … we didn't know at the time"
"Well now we both know and all we can do from this day forward is be there for them and give them our love"
"I know Mike" He gives her a kiss.
The next day Mike's brother in law called Mike back about the situation. When he finished on the phone, he made some other phone calls before he walked out of the bedroom where he took the call and walked over to the boys. "that was Andrew i just spoke to. I'm afraid you two will have to return back to Maxine"
"What, no?" they both said in shock.
"I know you both don't want to. but only for a month or two"
"Why can't we stay here?" Duncan said.
"The law, I know it's not right. but Andrew managed to get us a court date next month in Sydney where we are all going to family court. Plus he getting the paperwork sorted out for Kate and me to sign for your birth certificate name change since he got all the paperwork sorted out and Kate and i have to see a judge next monday morning and to sign the papers for the name change so when we go to family court next month we will have the papers confirming that you two are our biocial children"
"I think we can handle that, what do you think Ryan?"
"Yeah, we can do it since we hardly see her anyway. Once we are out of her life the better" Ryan said.
"We can talk more about it tonight when Kate is here, ok"
"good idea, when do we have to leave"
"This afternoon, for now I've got to get change while you boys pack your bags"
"Why do we still have a few hours"
"I know, but I need to see the base captain and my CO about this and for me not being on board Darwin when it leaves in two days for two month patrol and you boys can help me with a task" Mike said smiling.
"What task?" the boys said at the same time.
"House shopping," Boys grinned.
"We can help you with that uncle Mike" Ryan said grinning.
"Ok, go and pack your bags"
Half an hour later Ryan and Duncan talk to Kate who was having her morning break while Mike talks to his CO and the captain of the base about having time off because of going to court.
"Lieutenant Commander Flynn, we know about the situation and understand," the captain said.
"You do sir, how" the captain smiled.
"your wife spoke to Gregg and me first this morning. She told us everything that happened. We had no idea what you had been through, lieutenant commander."
"It was a shock for me, well for both Kate and me. We know that Maxine got a lot to answer for but i'll deal with that later, for now i got to think about our sons"
"Lieutenant told us that they want nothing to do with the lieutenant commander"
"That's true sir. they would never trust her again after the lies she has been telling them, Stewart, their families and me for years"
"It's good that you and your wife are going to be there for them"
"Yes sir" they talk for another five more minutes before Mike walks out of the office and over to where Kate and the boys are.
"Mike, how did it go?" Kate asked.
"Good, but you are in trouble Kate"
"Oh no when uncle mike says that, you're going to be getting the tooth brush" Ryan said grinning.
"Well it would all depend what trouble i am in"
"Captain told me you spoke to him and commander Black"
"Yes i did and i did tell them both that you would be wanting to see them both. Which you did say when you called a few minutes after i said that"
"What am i going to do with you Kate" Kate grinned and gave him a look he knew all too well. he shook his head at her.
"Come on boys let's Kate return back to work"
"ok" Kate gave them both a hug.
"Now remember what we talk about"
"Yes"
"good and remember no matter what we love you both"
"I love you too," Ryan said, giving her another hug.
"I love you too and can't wait to move here"
"We will see what the judge says first." Mike said.
"Just keep studying hard and think positive," Kate said.
"We will." Mike gave her a kiss.
"See you home tonight"
"sure" they kiss once more.
"Come on, you two can catch up tonight" Ryan said Making Kate laugh.
"Very funny Ryan" he shook his head at Ryan before he picked up his hat and they walked out the door talking and laughing.
