CH 4
Kate walk out her door closing and locking it before she walk to the elevator. When she walk out side Mike was there getting out of his car. He smile as he walk around the passenger side and open the door for Kate
"Thank you Mike" Kate said giving him a kiss on the lips
"Your welcome" Kate got in the car then mike close the door before walking around the car and getting in
"Lets go and see what on at the movies" Mike said
"Ok" Mike started his car up and drove to where he knows where the movie theater is.
They talk the whole way till Mike park in parking lot which people could stay up to six hours. When they got out of his car and doors close, mike lock the doors and turn the alarm on then they walk over to where the meter is. Mike paid for four hours then he look at his watch so he could keep an eye on the time.
Then he held on to Kate hand as they walk to where the stairs are and up them which lead them to city center. They walk along the street while still holding hands
"Mike do you know where you going" Kate asked
"Yes, there the movie theater there" mike pointed to the theater which was across the road but four shops down
"Oh" They walk across the road and down to the movie theater then they walk in to see kids and adults about. They walk over to the board to see what movies are playing and what time they start.
"which one would you like to see Kate"
"I don't know Mike you choice"
"Ok, let see Jumanji" Kate smile
"Jumanji?"
"I heard it a good movie" They walk to the end of the line where others were buying tickets for different movies
"Have you seen the movie before Mike" Kate asked
"no but niece and nephews have last weekend"
"ok" They look around while talking and waiting till it was there turn.
Mike paid for the tickets then he held on to Kate hand as they walk to one of the theater rooms since there was six of them. When they saw theater number two they walk to the door giving the man at the door tickets which he rip in half and gave half back to mike before they walk into the theater.
They took the seats at the back since they were the first ones there. Once they were seated they had to wait for fifteen minutes, in that time other people started walking in and sitting down in different seats.
"Mike why are we back here" Kate asked
"Better view"
"Ah"
"Haven't you been to the movies before" Kate turn to Mike
"no first time" Mike put his hand in Kate and gave it a squeeze
"I under stand, any way you will love it"
"I hope so Mike" Mike lean over and kiss Kate on the lips
"you will Kate" He said smiling.
Then they notice the theater was almost full with the light dim down "mike what happening" Kate asked
"It ok they do that before the movie starts so it won't hurt our eyes"
then the beginning of the movie started then the lights were turn off. Mike put his arm around Kate shoulder as she snuggled up to his side while enjoying watching the movie. When it was over and the credits started the lights were turn on again.
Mike turn to Kate "Well what did you think of the movie"
"it was great, I love it, what did you think of it Mike?"
"I like it, lets wait till every one else is gone then we can go"
"Good idea"
when every one was almost gone, mike and Kate stood up and pick there rubbish up and walk towards the exit where they put the rubbish in the bin before following every one else. They went to the toilets then meet up out side the toilets then they walk out side together while holding hands. They walk back to Mike car
"We should go to the movies again next time you got some shore leave Kate" Kate grin
"sounds good to me"
they talk till they reach mike car to see that there was five minutes left on the clock. Mike drove to a place he know for late lunch then they spent the afternoon shopping as well walking along the water front where the opera house is then they got some Chinese take away food before returning back to Kate place with it.
Mike help carry Kate shopping bags as well there dinner up and into her apartment. They enjoy there dinner and coffee while talking and laughing for the next few hours till mike had to leave since he got work in the morning.
They hug and kiss in Kate door way. "I enjoyed my self today mike thank you"
"Your welcome and I enjoyed my self to" He said smiling at her.
"I know you did. I leave on Tuesday for six week patrol"
"Ok how about when you return dinner and night movie"
"Sounds great it's a date"
"good see you when you get back then"
"ok, I'll be looking forward to it" they hug and kiss once more
"Sweet dreams Kate and fair winds"
"Sweet dreams Mike"
they kiss once more before mike walk to the stairs and down them Kate watch him go till she couldn't see him no more then she close and lock the door while smiling.
On Tuesday morning Kate walk into her cabin with her sea bag. She got change and sorted out her sea bag before going to get a brew before she went and did her normal things.
The lieutenant who was showing her the ropes was late so Kate remember the things he normal dose so she started doing his work since she almost finish with her's. She was on the wharf with clip board in hand check every thing before it went on the ship when the XO showed up with his sea bag.
"Midshipmen what are you doing" She turn to him then stood at attention and saluted
"Morning sir, I was doing lieutenant Adams job since he hasn't shown up and we know the captain would like to on our way by eleven hundred hours sir"
"that true midshipmen, carry on"
"Yes sir" they saluted each other then Kate turn around to check the next lot of items while the XO walk up onto the ship.
After he got change he got his clip board and went to do his things which was including the boxes that was brought aboard the ship. Hour later he saw the lieutenant running to the ship and up onto the gangway and onto the ship. The XO look at his watch then carry on working. When he was on the wharf next to Kate he was to take over since there was sustain boxes which he had to mark off since he was second in command.
"midshipmen I'll take over"
"Yes sir, permission to watch and observe what you do sir" He smile
"Permission granted"
"thank you sir" Kate watch what the XO dose so she would know what his job entitles.
"sir" He turn to Kate
"Yes midshipmen"
"That box number doesn't match up with the list sir" He look at Kate then to the box number and what written on the clip board he turn to Kate
"your right, thank you for noticing it"
"Yes sir" she watch what he dose over his radio and what he wrote down.
When every thing done, Kate went to finish her work just as the captain showed up. When he was in his cabin he just finish getting change when the XO knock on the door
"Enter X" XO open the door and walk in closing the door behind him
"Every thing done X"
"Yes sir but there was a problem with one of the boxes"
"Which one" XO show him the clip board and where the start mark and small note next to it
"Good spotting X"
"sir it was midshipmen McGregor who spotted the error sir" Captain raise his eye brow
"Really what was she doing on the wharf"
"doing lieutenant Adams job sir" Captain let our his breath
"that isn't her job X"
"i know that sir"
the XO talk to his captain about the extra jobs Kate done and how the XO went to see if she did them right which she has done. Half an hour later the captain and XO left the captain cabin and walk up onto the bridge where they went to do there jobs before it was time to leave port.
Later that afternoon the captain called Kate to his cabin where he talk to her about what she did even though it a lieutenant job.
"Midshipmen I'm impress with what you done this morning good work"
"thank you sir, here is my report about the extra work I've done and about the error that I've pick up" she pass him her files
"thank you, you may return back to your duties"
"Yes sir" they both saluted before Kate walk out of the captain cabin.
Three weeks later when crew received some mail, Kate did as well from Mike. She read his letter that afternoon since she was busy with training exercises and drills all morning. She smile when he told her that his parents been asking about her, and what sort of questions they asked and how it was driving him crazy, if it wasn't his parents it was the rest of the family. Plus he told her his youngest sister Jane is pregnant and the family are happy with the news.
When Kate finish reading the letter she smile as she rest it against her heart then she got up and got pen and paper out then she sat down at the desk where she wrote back to Mike since all mail will get pick up the next morning.
Two days later mike was at his desk when able seamen walk over to him "Lieutenant Flynn sir" mike turn around in his chair
"Yes able seamen" they salted each other
"Letter for you sir from HMAS Darwin" he past mike the letter then saluted before walking back the way he came. Mike look down at the letter then he open in and unfolded the letter and started reading it relying it was from Kate. He smile as he read the letter when finish reading it he read the P.S note
'Mike since you couldn't answer you parents and sister questions, I'm happy to do it for you, here are questions and answers. This should keep them happy and I'm looking ford to our dinner date at the end of the month, see you when I return Mike'
Mike look at the two pages of his parents and sister questions and Kate answers. Some of Kate answers made Mike chuckle. When finish reading it he folded the letters up and put it back in the envelope then put it in his pocket then return back to work with a smile on his face.
That night he showed up at his parents place since Jane and her husband was staying for a week since they live up in Darwin.
"Mike why are you in a happy mood" Jane asked
"Received a letter from Kate today and she ask me to pass this on to the family"
mike pass Jane two fold up papers. She unfolded them and read what it says. She laugh at couple of Kate answers just as mike parents and Jane husband walk into the living room.
"hi mum dad"
"mike, Jane what are you reading" Mike father asked
"Here" she past her father the first page while she read the second page.
"it from Kate" He read out the questions and Kate answers from them then Jane did with the second letter which have them all laughing.
"Here give them to me I'll fax these to the rest of the family" mike mother said taking the two sheets of paper with her as she walk out of the room.
"Mike what did you think of Kate answers?" mike father asked
"she honest about it"
"I've notice"
"so mike when are you taking Kate out on date?" Jane ask while smiling
"Jane you know the answer to that"
"Ah ha, so where are you going to take her?"
"Jane stop asking me questions like that"
"Why not big brother, how many times did you take your other girl friends out on a date, two, three times?"
"Jane you know that I'm hardly home"
"no wounder they left you. I hope Kate not like that"
"No she not"
"How do you know that" Jane asked
"cause she also navy Jane the others weren't"
"Kate in the Navy is she an officer like you?"
"Yes she midshipmen"
"Tell me more about her, where is she from has she got any brothers and sisters, what dose her parents do"
"Jane leave mike alone" there father said
"It ok dad, Jane why don't you write questions down and I'll pass them to Kate to answer"
"You don't know any thing about her but her being in the navy"
"Jane if you want to know she born in England, her parents divorce when she was nine, her mother brought her over here and she remarried a fake rick opal miner. He was killed year later. Kate and her mother move to a town where they stayed till Kate finish high school and join the navy."
"ok what about brothers and sisters"
"Only child"
"Tell me Mike what is she like" Mike grin just as his mother return
"you like her" Jane raise her eye brow
"will i"
"Mum and dad like her" Jane look at her grinning parents
"We have met Kate when mike was in hospital, she is a lovely young women" Alice said
"Young, how young" Jane asked as she turn to look at mike
"nine years younger"
"nine, Mike that is young, but" Jane said raising her hand
"If mum and dad like her then she must be special"
"she is" Mike stayed for dinner while talking to his family.
He told Jane a bit more about Kate which made her happy. After mike left to go home Jane was talking to her parents since her husband gone to bed since it was late.
"mum dad I'm worried about Mike"
"You mean about Kate, how they hardly know each other" Paul said
"Yes dad"
"don't be from what we have seen, Kate is the one" Alice said
"mum"
"Jane I've seen photos of them together at the navy ball few months back, in each of the photos there some thing more in them than with any other photos of mike with his past girl friends"
"More what is it"
"sparkle in his eyes, he never had then in any other photos till we saw them with Kate in it. It the same sparkle like your father has when we had our photos taken, Mike the same" Jane was shock with what her mother just told her
"Dad"
"It true, but I have notice tonight that Mike not telling us every thing about Kate"
"i notice that also. I'm sure he will tell us in his own time" Alice said.
Three weeks later HMAS Darwin return back to Sydney, the crew was looking forward to some shore leave spending it with family and friends. When Kate left the ship she headed home where she dose her normal routine when she returns back from patrol.
That night there was a knock on the door so she went to see who it was. When she look through the peep hole she smile as she open the door "mike" they step closer for hug and kiss
"Kate miss you"
"miss you to" they walk into her apartment where Kate close and lock the door then she follow mike into the kitchen dinning area.
"Have you had dinner" mike asked as he put paper bag and another bag on the bench.
"No I was going to order some thing, why" Mike pulled cartons of food out of the bag
"i brought us dinner, it Mexican" Kate smile
"thank you"
Kate walk over to mike and gave him a kiss before walking into her kitchen where she got plates, knifes, forks and wine glasses out
"how was your patrol" Mike asked
"busy, Lieutenant Adams in trouble with the captain just after we left port for our patrol"
"What did he do"
"He was late and I did most of his work as well mine before leaving port"
"Kate do you know what the lieutenant jobs are"
"Yes he been show me what lieutenant job dose, he show me the ropes on what to do" Kate said as she walk into the dinning area with the items in hand and putting them on the table.
"what did the captain say?"
"He impress with what I've done even though the lieutenant only show me twice"
"that good to know"
"Yes it is. So how your family" mike smile as he put the food onto the two plates
"good Jane she read your questions and answers that you sent to me, she want to know more about you"
"dose she"
"Yes I was able to answer most of her questions but others I didn't want to tell her mum or dad unless I got your ok"
"What was the question"
"Personal ones I ask her to write then down and I'll give it to you to answer them"
"what was the questions she asked that you have answered"
"where you grew up, family, friends things like that"
"Mike"
"After dinner I promise"
"Ok" They talk about other things while enjoying dinner.
After dinner they sat down on the love seat where they talk about what the questions Jane asked which mike was able to answer them and he even told Kate about Jane bugging him about dating which made Kate laugh.
Mike pulled out two sheets of paper from his pocket and unfolded them then he pass them to Kate to read. They were questions from Jane. Kate under stood why Mike didn't answer those questions since they were personal. She put the two sheets on the coffee table then she turn to mike
"I'm not ready to share the answers to those questions Mike"
"I know, but when your ready I'll support you" he put his arm around her shoulder and pull her to his chest
"thanks"
"what are you going to do on your shore leave?" Kate smile
"Well we do have that movie and dinner date some time" mike smile
"This Saturday"
"sounds good to me" Kate move so she could look at mike then she move ford to give him a kiss then snuggled up to his side again.
They talk more about there up bring, Kate share with Mike about what it was like in England and mike share some stories about him and his sisters which made Kate laugh.
Later that night, Mike stay the night at Kate place holding her in his arms like last time.
The next morning Mike left after breakfast for home since he working which Kate under stood. After Mike left Kate went and did some shopping and pampered her self before returning back home.
On Saturday night Mike took Kate to a romantic restaurant for there date then they went to see bat man forever. They enjoyed watching the movie while sitting at the back like last time. After the movies they walk back to Mike car with there arms around each other.
"what a great night" Kate said
"Yes it sure is so want to come back to my place for coffee or would you like to go home" Kate thought about it and smile
"your place it closer" mike smile and kiss her just as they stop in front of his car
"My place it is" they got into his car and he drove back to his place.
They talk the whole time about the movie they just saw. When they arrived at Mike place and was in his bedroom, Mike got a tee shirt out of his draws and pass it to Kate
"Here you can wear this"
"thanks Mike"
Mike watch Kate walk into his bathroom closing the door behind her. He took his clothes off and sort them out before getting into bed waiting for Kate. When she did walk out of the bathroom the tee shirt was to big on her and it was long on Kate which she was grateful for.
She put her clothes on a chair that in Mike room and shoes under it then she walk over to the bed and got in then she snuggled up to Mike side as she pull the covers back over her self. Mike turn the light off then pulled her close to him as he kiss her good night
"night Kate"
"night Mike" They close there eyes and fell into peaceful sleep with there arms around each other.
The next morning when Mike woke up he notice that the other side of the bed was empty so he sat up and notice Kate clothes were still on the chair and bathroom door was open. Then he could smell some thing cooking which made him smile so he got up and walk to his bathroom to do his morning routine. When he walk back out couple minutes later Kate walk into the bedroom carrying tray in hand
"Morning Mike I thought you were still in bed"
"I woke up few minutes ago, I needed to go to use the head." he walk over to Kate and manage to give her a kiss then he look down at what on the tray
"wow that some breakfast" then he look up at Kate
"i was going to surprise you"
"Well you did surprise me, I'll get back in bed" Mike got back into bed then Kate step ford putting tray on his lap
"thanks, care to join me" he reach over and flick back the covers
"Sure" Kate walk around to the other side of the bed and got in then she pull the covers back over her then she got comfortable as she turn to see mike looking at her.
"I'll share this big breakfast with you" Mike said
"thanks"
"So what's your plans for today"
"Going for a walk along the walk way"
"Care to have some company?"
"Aren't you working today"
"Got the day off" mike said smiling
"If your sure Mike"
"i am"
"alright we can make a day of it starting by eating breakfast before it gets cold" Kate said grinning
"Yes ma'am" she saluted Kate which made her laugh.
They talk about where to start the morning walks, wither to take a taxi or mike car while having breakfast in bed. After breakfast mike went to have a shower while Kate took care of the dishes and gotten dress. By that time mike already had his shower and gotten dress and made the bed.
They decided to take a taxi to Kate place so she could freshen up before they left to go down to the opera house where they started from there. They walk along the walk way with there arms around each other while talking and laughing till they stop off at a cafe for some lunch.
After lunch they went to check out couple of places that afternoon before heading back to Kate place where they cook dinner together. Later that night Mike and Kate kiss in her door way before Mike left to head on home since he got an early start in the morning.
