CH 8
The next morning after dropping MJ off at daycare, Mike and Kate take the boys to their new school where they meet the principal and a couple of the teachers before Mike and Kate leave for work and boys start school. It took a few days for the boys to get used to their new school and home life but they were happy.
And as for the rules and things they have to do at home, they weren't happy about a couple of the jobs but after Mike and Kate spoke to them and the reason why they have to do it themselves. they understood.
Week later When Mike and Kate arrived home with MJ they could smell something cooking so they walked into the kitchen and stopped when they watched the boys doing their homework at the kitchen island while the pots were on the stove and noticed roast chicken in the oven.
"Wow, I'm impressed" Kate said. They boys look up and turn around to their parents.
"I agree we are proud of you boys" Mike said as they stepped forward to give them a hug.
"thanks mum, dad, we had home economics and we learned a few things and since there was a chicken in the freezer we decided to surprise you"
"Well you both sure did," Mike said.
"MJ meal done up for him, let us feed him while you two get change," Duncan said as he took MJ from Kate's arms.
"Well ok, thanks Duncan, Ryan since you are going to be feeding him do you want to change his diaper first?"
"We can handle it"
"Ok come on Mike before they change their minds." Mike and Kate walk to the stairs and Kate stop and turn to Mike
"Kate why are you smiling"
"Oh man MJ man your ripe, no wonder mum was smiling when she walked out of the room" Duncan said
"woo, MJ man mum should cut back on giving you apple sauce" Ryan said.
Kate giggles and Mike smile at each other as they walk up the stairs. "Kate you knew that MJ needed his diaper change badly"
"Yep, anyway it's great for them to learn how to change the smelly diaper" mike smile
"That's so true"
When they walk into the bedroom and take their uniforms off and go to get dressed in normal clothes. Kate turned to Mike when he went to put on his house shoes when he looked up to Kate.
"Are you ok honey?" Kate walked over and sat on the bed next to him.
"Mike, i got something to tell you" he turned and looked at her.
"What's wrong?" he put his hand into hers with a worried look.
"Mike i'm pregnant" Mike looked at her in shocked
"Are you sure"
"I went to the navy doctors, they ran the tests, I'm about nine to ten weeks pregant"
"Wow, Kate that is incredible"
"Shocking because the baby would be born in March roughly six weeks after MJ's birthday. How do you feel about that"
"Shocked, but happy. plus no matter what Kate i loves you and our sons" he gives her a kiss.
"I love you to Mike plus i hope it a girl this time" Mike kissed her
"that would be great Kate, a daughter who looks like you"
"and you"
"We never knew Kate. but we will have to tell the boys"
"I know" they kiss once more.
"Let's go down and see how the diaper change is coming along"
"Why not?" They stood up and hugged and kissed before walking out of the bedroom and down stairs.
When they walked into the kitchen Ryan was making the gravy while Duncan was feeding MJ. "Need any help?" Kate asked Ryan.
"I'm good thanks mum, but you could warn us about MJ exploding in his diaper" mike and Kate laugh.
"Well at least you both getting plenty of practice in" mike said as he went and got him and Kate a drink
"What is that supposed to mean?" Duncan asked. They look from Kate to Mike who was smiling.
"No way are you pregnant mum" Ryan asked in shocked
"Nine weeks"
"what, oh man, wow when did you find out"
"today and i just told mike here a few minutes ago"
"That's awesome," Duncan said.
"You two sure been busy during those shore leaves" Ryan said with a cheeky grin.
"Very funny Ryan, so how do you both feel about this"
"We are happy because you two are happy," Duncan said.
"I agree"
"One thing that Mike and I talked about is that we are hoping for a daughter this time"
"A sister, we can handle that and it would be awesome if it was a girl"
"It's a fifty, fifty change Duncan"
"True" then MJ started making noises and they turned to him while smiling.
Later that night Mike contacted his family and their friends to give them the baby news. They were all shocked but happy also for the family.
Few days later when Maxine arrived home "Duncan, Ryan, i'm home" Maxine called out as she carried her two bags further into her place then stopped and put them down. She noticed the smelly stuffy air.
"Ryan, Duncan" she went looking for them.
When she looked into their bedrooms all there was, was a bed, a bed with a lamp on it. the bed wasn't made since all there was was the base and mattress. the draws, book cases, even the desk was empty. She ran over to the draws to check and see them empty plus she noticed their posters were gone also from the walls. She checked the bathroom, there was nothing in there. She got her phone out of her pocket and tried to call them when all she got was.
"the number you try to call is no longer in service" so she hung up.
then she called Stewart "Hello Maxine"
"Stewart where are Ryan and Duncan" she said yelling at him
"Maxine don't you dare yell at me and demanding to know where the boys are"
"where are they"
"they are with Mike and Kate. the judge gave them full custody since they are their biological parents and you didn't show up in court. Since Mike and Kate got everything that was needed for the boys to go to them."
"What? I was told by my lawyer that he would take care of everything."
"Who is your lawyer 'cause he never showed up just like you. Maxine after what you did to the boys and ours and Mike Family, it's over. Ryan and Duncan are happy with Mike, Kate and MJ"
"they are my sons Stewart"
"Were your sons. Don't bother calling me again oh before I end this call. Mike called to tell me Kate is pregnant again and hopping for a girl this time and i am very happy for them, good bye Maxine" then he hung up.
Maxine was angry and she screamed. "One day i'll get them back, they are my sons"
Two weeks later, the day before Mike was due to leave Darwin, he and Kate were at the hospital seeing Kate gynecologist to see if everything is ok with the baby. Plus they notice Kate's baby bump is bigger than when she was carrying MJ. After having normal tests done they needed to wait for an hour before seeing the doctor.
When it was time they walked into a room where Kate lay on the bed where a sheet was placed over her hips. She managed to undo her pants and lower them and raise her top since she was in uniform. They waited for a couple of minutes when the doctor walked in and over to them
"Good morning, how are we feeling today?" the doctor asked.
"Happy, we are looking forward to seeing our baby" Kate said.
"I bet you are, so let us see the baby" Mike was holding onto Kate's hand as the doctor moved the wand over the baby bump.
"Everything looks great here it is…. thirteen weeks with twins" She said smiling at them
"Twins," Mike and Kate said at the same time.
"Yes, here…. and here" she pointed to the montor.
"Oh my gosh" Kate said when she looked at the monitor.
"Doctor are they identical twins?" Mike asked.
"No, so you have a high chance of having one of each"
"that would be great," Mike said.
"Yeah, we shall wait and see," Kate said.
Half an hour later they had lunch the Mike took Kate back to the base and gave her a kiss before he left to do some shopping the return home where he did something around the house till the boys return home from school. When he saw them he was sitting down at the breakfast bar.
"Boys, I want you to do something for me while I'm away"
"to look after mum and our unborn brother or sister," Ryan said.
"Yeah about that"
"Is there something wrong with mum or the baby?" Duncan said in a worried tone. Mike smiled.
"No everything went well except for one thing" He said as he started to smile
"What is it dad, why are you smiling?" Ryan asked.
"Well in your case double duties, We have twins"
"Twins," the boys said in shock.
"Yes twins, don't worry even Kate and i are shocked with the news and to your next question the answer is no they not idental" Ducan and Ryan grin
"Wow, that's awesome, I hope one of them is a girl" Ryan said.
"Yeah I agree but they might be twin girls or boys. but no matter what we going to love them like we love MJ" duncan said smiling
"Including exploding diapers" Mike said grinning
"Even exploding diapers," Ryan said laughing.
Two months later Mike was with Kate while the doctor was taking measurements of the twins. "They are a good size Kate for twenty weeks"
"that good"
"Doctor, can you tell us what we are having?"
"sure, let's see… This one a boy" she pointed to the first baby "this one it hard to tell cause of the angle he or she is on" the move the wand around. "From what I can tell it's a boy"
"Boy, twin boys" Kate said sadly
"Yes, sorry Kate I know you were hoping one of them is a girl"
"yeah but no matter what we love them still" they look at their sons.
That night they told Ryan and Duncan the news. "Shame that one of them isn't a girl," Duncan said.
"Same here. But there's always next time, right" Ryan said.
"No, there's not going to be a next time" Kate said.
"why not"
"Five is enough and after the kids are born I'm having my tubes tied," Kate said.
"shame though. But i'm happy for you both" Ryan said.
"thanks Ryan" they all hug.
After the new year, when it was MJ's birthday, Kate was seven and half months pregnant. She was working part time on base since she was getting bigger and starting to struggle getting around but Ryan and Duncan had been there for her, helping her with shopping, looking after MJ who started walking and getting into things and cooking and cleaning when Mike was out on patrol.
The morning of MJ's birthday there was a birthday party at day care center at lunch time then dinner at home with family and friends. Even Stewart arrived for a few days so he could spend it with Ryan and Duncan.
That night after dinner, Mike went to give MJ a bath since he was getting tired. Kate was sitting down with her legs elevated while talking to Mike's family and Stewart while the boys took care of the dishes. When Mike returns an hour later Kate smiles at him.
"Did MJ splash you again hun"
"Yes he did the little monster" He said as he sat down next to Kate.
"Well when these two come you will double the water mess"
"Gee thanks" they talk for another ten minutes when Kate felt a sharp pain.
She knew it might happen so she carried on talking till she needed to go to the loo. Mike helps her to stand up and she waddles to the toilets. When she returned a few minutes later Mike was laughing at something his brother in law said when he turned to Kate.
"Kate are you ok?"
"No, can you take me to the hospital, I think i'm in labor" Mike stood up and walked over to her.
"Are you sure, your not due till next month"
"Our sons got other plans, three contractions in the past fifteen minutes"
"Ok let's get you to the hospital"
"sorry everyone"
"It's ok Kate," Stewart said.
Mike took Kate to the hospital when she started breathing in and out while rubbing her stomach. "you doing great Kate"
"I know" When they arrived at the hospital Mike helped Kate walk into the hospital and into a wheelchair then they headed to the maternity ward.
When they arrived, "Mike and Kate Flynn"
"Yeah that's us"
"Is the bath ready?" Kate said.
"We want to see how far dilated you are"
"They are coming now you better make sure the bath is running, the contractions are three minutes apart" Kate said.
"Ok this way" Mike pushes the wheelchair as they follow the nurse down and into a room where another nurse was getting things set up.
They fill the bath while Mike helps Kate out of her clothes and into the tub. Then he went and got changed into a pair of scrub pants then he got into the bath and moved till he was behind Kate as she started pushing as she held onto his hands.
"That is Kate, you're doing great" the nurse said. Kate started breathing then started pushing. "the head is out you doing great." Few pushes later the baby wailed as he took his first breath.
"It's a boy congratulation" the nurse placed him onto Kate's chest. Mike and Kate look down at their son, then Kate turns to Mike and he kisses her.
"He is amazing"
"He looks like you," Kate said.
"and you" they look down at their son who has dark hair like Mike and Kate eyes. After Mike cut the cord,
"Oh boy, round two" Kate said. the nurse took their son off her chest and passed him to a nurse who was holding onto a towel. She took him into the next room.
"Ok here come boy number two" the nurse said. Kate pushes and screams just as their second child is born.
"Well hello there, I be damn it a girl" the nurse said.
"What?" Mike and Kate said in shock.
"You have a daughter, take a look for yourself."
"My gosh a daughter, we were told it was a boy"
"don't worry it's not the first time a doctor made a mistake and as i recall from the notes that the baby was on an angle. Now you've got to find a name for this little one" She said as she placed their daughter onto Kate's chest.
"Mike what do you think of…. Emma Kate flynn"
"We did talk about names if it was a girl and I love it like i love you" he gives her a kiss.
"You done an amazing job Kate"
"thanks Mike." they look down at their daughter while Mike cuts the cord.
