CH 10
Three weeks later when Hammersley returned, Mike was up to the top when he saw who was on the wharf waiting. He smiled and waved at Kate which she did in return.
He noticed that she almost lost the baby fat from when she was carrying the twins. Kate looks at Mike just as Hammersley docks. When done she waited for him. When she saw him walk onto the wharf and into her arms for a hug and passionate kiss. when they broke apart.
"Surprise," Kate said smiling at him.
"Kate this is a wonderful surprise, what are you doing here, where are the kids?" Kate kissed him.
"Mike is Friday and Stewart looking after all five of them"
"that good of him"
"Yeah and I got a surprise for you"
"Have you"
"Yes, meet me here" she passes him a slip of paper then kisses him.
"I'll be waiting for you" Mike looked down at the paper then to Kate.
"What have you got planned, Kate"
"Trust me Mike" she kissed him once more before turning around and walking down the wharf. Mike unforded the paper with the hotel name and room number. Mike smiles at it then he returns back to Hammersley.
Hour later Kate heard a knock on the door so she stood up and walked to the door and looked through the peephole. She smiled when she saw it was Mike, so she opened the door and grabbed his arm and pulled him in closing and locking the door behind her.
"Kate why did you?" he said as he turned around and stopped when he saw what she was wearing. She was wearing a blue see through baby doll outfit and she wasn't wearing anything underneath it.
"Like what you see sailor" Mike put his sea bag and briefcase on the chair next to him
"Oh yeah, Kate are you feeling ok" she took step forward and kissed him as she started undoing buttons on his shirt.
"I miss you Mike"
"I miss you Kate" they kissed which became passionate. they move over to the bed and land on top of it. They removed each other's clothes and made passionate love for the first time in months.
Afterwards. Mike notices the bottle of champagne and food on a tray. He looks at Kate and kisses her. "you had this set up"
"Yes, so are you hungry"
"Yes I am" he kissed her once more before rolling off her so he could take care of the drinks and food.
They spent the evening talking while enjoying the food and drinks. They made love once more before falling asleep with Kate snuggling up to his side.
The next morning Mike and Kate walk into Stewart house. they could hear laughter after they heard. "Hey there Connor you could have peed before I changed your smelly diaper, now I have to change my top" Stewart said. Connor giggled and laughed.
"don't worry dad it's not the first time that Connor or MJ has done that," Duncan said.
"You're telling me they've done this before"
"Yep," Ryan said.
"How does Kate manage to do it without getting peed on"
"You will have to ask her," Duncan said.
"Yeah, I guess I will"
Mike and Kate look at each other with smiles on their faces after what they just heard. "Shall we?" Mike said.
"Why not?" They walk into the kitchen dining area.
"Had an interesting night Stewart," Mike said. Everyone turned to the voice.
"Dad," Ryan and Duncan said as they got up and ran over and into his arms.
"Ryan, Duncan, having fun i see"
"Yeah but MJ and Connor peed on dad"
"What about Emma?" Kate asked.
"She brought up some milk," Ryan said.
"Ok" Mike picked MJ up who was in his high chair and gave him a kiss on the cheek and hug then put him back in his high chair.
"I'll be right back" Mike said as he walked out of the room while Kate walked over to the fridge where she put a bottle of breast milk in it.
"How was your night last night?" Kate asked as she walked over to the dining room table.
"It was great we had pizza last night for dinner and watched a couple of movies" Duncan said.
"That's great. Stewart how was the kids"
"They were great except for what happened this morning." Kate smiled
"Joys of parenthood."
"that is so true. How was your night last night?"
"It was great, we talked"
"Is that all mum, you and dad didn't make out like rabbits" Ryan said grinning.
"Very funny Ryan and it's personal"
"Well dad sure was in a happy mood this morning, you two must have had a really long chat" Duncan said.
"That's enough from both of you" Kate said.
"Sorry mum" they both said.
Kate walks to the kitchen to get a face cloth and wet it and pick up a hand towel then walk over to MJ high chair to clean him up since he got food all over his hands and face.
"Looks like someone enjoyed breakfast this morning" Kate said.
"Yes he did alright," Stewart said.
When Mike walks into the dinning area, Kate just finishes changing MJ clothes since he got food over him that morning.
"So Mike what are you planning on doing during shore leave?" Stewart asked.
"Kate and I are planning on taking Connor, MJ and Emma shopping for the day while you can spend time with Ryan and Duncan, if that is ok with you three"
"That's fine by me. it would be great to spend time with them" Stewart said.
"That's fine by me" Ryan said.
"Yeah it's ok with me"
"ok, Well Kate shall we go"
"You call for a taxi while I'll take care of the diaper bag"
"Ok"
Few minutes later The taxi van left with the five of them in it, leaving Stewart with Ryan and Duncan for the day. that evening when Stewart, Ryan and Duncan return from the day's outing. they saw Mike and Kate sorting out dinner.
"Wow, something smells good" Stewart said.
"Chinese stir fried chicken and veggies with noodles" Mike said.
"Sounds good to me," Ryan said.
"How was your day?" Kate asked them.
"We had so much fun, how about you and dad"
"We had a great day ourselves. brought you kids new clothes"
"Cool, what did you get us mum, dad?" Ryan asked.
"Shoes since you starting to outgrow your old ones" Kate said smiling at them.
After dinner Mike bathed the three kids and put them to bed since they were almost asleep. Afterwards he joined the others in the living room for coffee and chatted for a couple of hours before Mike and Kate left to return back to the hotel for their last night together.
The next day when Mike and Kate walk into Stewart place they go and sort out the bags first then they go to see what their family is up to. They spent the day together till it was time to leave. Stewart and Mike give Kate and the kids a hug and Mike kisses Kate.
"See you next month Mike"
"I'll be looking forward to it" they kiss once more before Kate gets into the taxi van. They all wave to each other just as Mike and Kate say "I love you" to each other. Mike and Stewart watch the van drive away.
"Come on mate, in a month's time you will see them again"
"Yeah" they walk inside talking about different things.
When Kate and kids return home. they sorted out their bags and Kate put a load of washing through the machine and started getting dinner on and texted Mike that she and the kids are home.
Two weeks later Kate returned to work while the kids were in day care. Two weeks later Kate was driving to work she was looking forward to seeing Mike since she knew that Hammersley was due in port that afternoon and knew that Mike was flying back home tonight and she got plans for when he arrives home which makes her smile.
Later that afternoon when she returns from the day care center after giving them two bottles of breast milk and milk formula, Captain black walks over to Kate's desk where she just sat down. "Lieutenant"
"Sir, what's wrong"
"I got a call from Commander Marshal from HMAS Cairns, it was about Lieutenant Commander Flynn" Kate started to go white as her uniform.
"Mike, what happened"
"He went to a boarding party of a FFV, he and a couple others were attacked, Your husband sustained serious injuries. They are heading toward HMAS Melbourne at the top of the green"
"Why was he on the boarding team that was supposed to be the XO job? where was his back up" Kate said angrily
"I don't know the details. But your husband is going to be a medic vac to Barry general hospital in Cairns"
"Ok, thanks for telling me sir"
"Lieutenant you can leave, ticket waiting for you at the airport"
"My kids sir, i'm still breast feeding the twins, my god Ryan, duncan, i got to tell them, i got to get someone to look after them and MJ" Kate said in a rush while in shock.
"Kate" she looked up to another lieutenant. "I called Lisa, we can look after the kids, she knows the situation. You go and get the twins"
"Thanks Brad"
"I get a driver to take you to the day care and home lieutenant"
"Thank you sir" Kate stood up and walked out of the main room.
"I hope Lieutenant Commander Flynn makes it, sir" Brad said.
"I didn't want to tell her this, he was in serious condition, he was hit by a pole and slashed a couple of times by a masti. One of the slashes was in the groin area" Brad was shocked.
"bloody hell, that's not good"
"Not it's not"
Kate went to high school first. She called the principal after she got into the car. when she arrived at the school the principal was waiting for Kate. "Mrs Flynn"
"Mr Millar do you know what classes my boys are in"
"Yes, I do this way." Kate walked next to him.
"Care to tell me why you need to see them, we don't let parents do this unless it is important"
"I know that Mr Millar. I received word that my husband was seriously wounded and being taken to Barry General Hospital in Cairns"
"Why Cairns and not Darwin?"
"Mike is acting captain on one of the patrol boats from Cairns"
"Oh I see. I hope he will be ok"
"Same here and I have a lot of questions to ask the base Commanding officer and the ship XO"
"Why do you say that"
"Cause my husband was wondering during boarding of an FFV. that is supposed to be the XO job not the captain"
"Good point, I'm sure you will get your answers"
"I hope so too" when they arrived at the classroom in question.
Mr millar knocks on the door and walks in. "John, what can I do for you?" the teacher asked.
"I would like to see Ryan and Duncan Flynn outside please." the classmates started making OHHH noises while grinning.
"what you done Ryan"
"Duncan you are a bad boy now" another classmate said.
"No, I don't know…"Ryan said, then stopped when he saw Kate in the doorway with a sad look on her face. "mum please no, not dad" Ryan said
Everyone looked at the doorway in silence to see a woman in navy uniform with tears rolling down her face. They look at her in shock just as Duncan and Ryan run over and into her arms as she hugs them both. They look at each other in shock. They all knew that Mike is also in the navy and knew he was in Cairns doing couple patrols. the principal walk outside, closing the door while the kids talk about what just happened.
"Mum please don't tell us dad is gone" Duncan said.
"He is still alive but he is seriously wounded"
"Medic vac" Ryan asked.
"Melboune heading towards their location at the top of the green. they only do that cause there either no medic vac or out of range for one"
"What happened?" Duncan asked.
"He went on a boarding team and they boarded an FFV, Mike and two others were wounded"
"Why was he on the boarding team for the XO job?" Duncan said.
"I know it is, but I don't know what's going on, but I'm going to find out"
"Are we flying to Cairns"
"No I am, I'm taking the twins with me. Remember Brad and Lisa Morris"
"Yes they babysit us a few times, are we going to be staying with them?"
"Yes you two and MJ"
"Is that why you are here mum"
"Yes to tell you myself"
"Ok can you let us know what is happening to dad"
"Yes I will," she gave them both a hug and a kiss on the check.
"I'll call as soon as i know"
"ok mum"
"I got to go now, I love you both"
"We love you, mum"
"Get back into class"
"We will" Kate watch them return back to class then she and Mr Millar walk back the way they came.
Kate then went to the day care center where she picked up the twins after explaining the family emergency and who was going to be picking up MJ. When we finished there the driver took her home so she could pack a couple of bags. When finish she was in the car on the way to the airport. On the way she received a text message from Stewart after she sent him a text message.
She called him "Hello"
"Stewart it Kate"
"Hi Kate, I got your message, you know my door is always open, so what's going on I thought Mike was flying back home later this afternoon"
"Stewart, Mike has been seriously wounded. I don't know all the details, but Hammersley has a ronde view with Melboune at the top of the green"
"you don't know anything else or how he got injured in the first place"
"He was on a boarding team boarding an FFV when it happened"
"Why would he be on the boarding team if he was the captain?"
"I know that, I'm going to find out more when I arrive in cairns"
"Ok what about the kids"
"I'm bringing the twins with me since I'm still breast feeding them. My co-worker and his wife are going to take care of the other three."
"Ok let me know what time you arrived and i'll come and get you and the kids"
"ok thanks Stewart, I just arrived at the airport"
"ok Kate and don't worry, Mike will be ok"
"I hope you talk to you soon" then she hung up.
