CH 13

A month later Kate was finishing off some work in the study when she heard the doorbell ring, she looked at her watch and noticed it was after ten at night. So she got up and went to see who it was. She turned the outside light on and looked through the peephole and was shocked to see who it was. She quickly unlocked the door and opened it then she quickly stepped forward wrapping her arms around his neck as she kissed Mike who ended up dropping his bag so he could wrap his arms around her waist.

When they broke for air Kate looked at him "Mike that is a surprise why didn't you call"

"And what do you see on your face?" He said smiling.

"Mike, I miss you"

"I miss you and our kids too" they kiss once more. "Can I come inside?"

"Sure" Kate stepped back so Mike could pick up his bag then walk inside, closing and locking the door behind him. "I was finishing up some paperwork"

"Oh, sorry i didn't know"

"Mike you know what it is like being an instructor" Mike smiled

"Yes, I do Kate. Need any help"

"No, I can finish it tomorrow"

"Are you sure"

"Yes cause i was about to go to bed" Mike smiled.

"I like that idea, so where is the bedroom?" Kate smiled

"follow me sailor" Mike smiles as he follows Kate up stairs and down to the master bedroom where they spend the evening making passionate love before falling asleep with Kate snuggling up to his side.

The next morning Ryan and Duncan were up early. They noticed Kate wasn't up so they took care of the three kids. It was after nine on Saturday morning. "I'm worried about mum, she is always up early" Duncan said.

"Yeah, i'll go and wake her up"

"ok"

Ryan walked up stairs and down to Kate room he knocked on the door and there was no answer so he opened the door and took two steps in the bedroom then stopped in his tracks and smiled with what he saw in front of him. He quietly walks out, closing the door then returning back to the kitchen.

"Ryan when is mum coming down"

"don't know it would depend on how much sleep she got last night"

"What do you mean by that and why are you smiling?" Ryan thought about it.

"Delta, alpha, delta" then he points up stairs while smiling. Duncan thought about it and smiled.

"I wonder when he arrived"

"Who knows"

"Where they you know"

"Just a sheet covering them"

"Well what should we do with these three today?"

"The park"

"Why not?" Half an hour later Ryan and Duncan took the kids to the park.

When Kate woke up she breathed in through her nose and smiled when she smelled Mike's body wash. she opens her eyes and blinks a couple of times. Then she tilts her head to look at him as he sleeps. She carefully got out of bed to go to the loo. Then she returns back to bed where she leans over him and gives him a kiss.

When he didn't wake up, Kate's hand moved under the sheet till she reached her goal. She watches Mike's face as she slowly wakes him up till she sees him smile as he moans. "If you keep that up Kate you will have to change the sheets"

"Well they would need to be changed after last night" she said as she moved till she was lying on top of him just as he opened his eyes looking at her.

"Morning," Kate said as she gives him a kiss.

"Morning, I miss you and this"

"Miss what? the way i wake you up"

"Yeah, I miss waking up with you next to me"

"Same here Kate" they kissed once more then made love.

Afterwards when Kate was lying on his chest. "How long are you here for?"

"till Tuesday"

"Ok it's great to have you here Mike"

"Same here, i guess the kids are growing up"

"Yeah, Connor and Emma started crawling"

"Are they"

"Yeah, and MJ i started potty training him"

"I've missed out on so much"

"Yeah you have"

"what about Duncan and Ryan?"

"They are growing up so fast, their voices are changing"

"your joking"

"I'm not"

"Well let's go and surprise them"

"They will be surprised alright" Kate reached over to pick up the phone and was shocked at the time "Mike it's almost eleven oclock"

"What?" he looked at her cell phone then smiled

"Why are you smiling"

"Well it seems last night activity has tried both of us" Kate lightly hit his arm.

"Mike Flynn"

"What, I didn't hear you complain?" Kate rolled off Mike and got out of bed.

"I'm going to go and have a shower" Mike quickly got out of bed

"I'll join you if there is room for both of us"

"Yes there is Mike," she said smiling.

three quarters of an hour later they walk down stairs just as the front door opens. "Daddy," MJ said as he tried to get out of the stroller. Duncan helped MJ out and put him on the ground watching him walk quickly as he could towards Mike who picked him up in his arms.

"MJ miss you"

"Miss you daddy" they both hug.

"Ryan, Duncan you two don't look surprised" Mike said.

"I went to check on mum just after nine when i saw you two sleeping so i gather you two had a late night last night"

"Ryan doesn't talk like that," Kate said.

"Why not mum, At least you both are happy and we do understand and know about the fax of life"

"you boys are growing up too fast." Mike hugged them both. then he put MJ down so he could look at the twins who are awake.

"So dad how long are you here for?" Duncan asked.

"till tuesday why" Duncan grinned.

"One thing about being a great father and that is changing diapers, since it has been a while, have fun" Duncan said as he walked towards the kitchen

"I agree," Ryan said.

"Hang on, who does the diaper change?" mike asked.

"Mum, Ryan and Me, we take turns since your not here, but now you are, the joys of parenthood dad, after all you miss out on so much with the kids" Mike looked at the boys then to Kate who was smiling.

"You did tell me last night you miss out on a lot with our kids"

"True" he looked at them then sniffed the air.

"Well question is which one" then Emma started to cry

"That answers my question." he picks her up and looks at Kate

"This way" Kate shows Mike where he could change Emma. When Kate was back out in the hallway. Ryan and Duncan walk over to her when they heard.

"Woo Emma what has mummy been giving you" They walk back the way they came and laugh.

"Well we know that Connor's diaper change is going to happen in twenty minutes," Kate said.

"True mum"

Mike enjoys his few days with Kate and their kids. Ryan, Duncan and Kate smile and even laugh when Mike is either giving the three kids a bath, or helping MJ with his potty training or changing the twins' diaper.

Kate introduced Mike to James on Sunday afternoon since Karen is away for a week and Kate invited James over that Sunday night since they were having a barbecue dinner outside.

In which James agrees to. Mike and Kate told Jame how they met, fell in love, got married, have MJ and the twins. "Mike if MJ is your and Kate's first born then why name him as your third child?" Kate explains to James about what happened. then Mike did. James was shocked with what they told him.

"My gosh that is shocking with what Maxine did not only to you Mike but to the families"

"I agree with James."

"Are you still in contact with Stewart"

"Yes i am and so are boys here since they know he is a victim as well"

"that good that you boys are still keeping in contact with him"

"He is our dad since we have known him for years as our dad and we can see him when we like, We either fly to Cairns or come here to see us" Ryan said.

"ok"

On Tuesday morning Mike gives the kids a hug before they get into the minivan and then he hugs and kisses Kate. "I'm going to miss you" Kate said,

"I'm going to miss you to Kate. I'll be up here in a couple of months time"

"I understand and good luck with your new XO"

"thanks" they kiss once more.

"Before I forget" she pulls out two keys on a ring and passes them to him.

"to the house just in case you surprise us when i'm at work" mike smile

"Thanks Kate." Kate got into the minivan and wind down the window and leaned out to give Mike one more kiss.

"Fair winds" Kate said

"Fair winds Kate" Mike watched Kate leave as he waved to the kids, then he returned back into the house giving James a wave which he did in return.

Two hours later Mike was walking out the door carrying his sea bag with him. He locked the door then turned around to see a woman who stood next to a taxi in shock.

"Oh my god" she got her cell phone out and made a call just as Mike was walking down the driveway just as another taxi showed up. "Stop him, he's a burglar" the woman shouted.

"What are you talking about?" a taxi driver said when he went to pass her bag to her.

"I just saw him come out of that house. I know who lives there and the hours she works" the woman yelled.

Mike stopped next to his taxi that had just pulled up and turned to the woman who was yelling. His driver got out. "Do you know her" the driver asked Mike

"No I don't"

"she must be nuts" Mike went to open the back door when he saw the woman running towards him yelling at him

"Stop, stop you thief" She pushed the back door shut

"Excuse me I don't know you and I'm no thief ma'am now please step back"

"No, I saw you come out of that house. What did you steal?" she went to grab his bag when he moved it behind him

"Ma'am, stop right there. I have done nothing wrong" then they could hear police sirens.

"You're in trouble now mister, i hope they send you to prison for a very long time."

"If any one is in trouble ma'am it would be you especially if I'm going to be late for my flight" Mike said to her

"We shall see," she said folding her arms.

When the police arrived the woman ran over to them. "Officers arrest this man, i saw him coming out of that house with a bag in hand" she said yelling at them

"Calm down ma'am and tell me from the beginning what happened." While one officer talks to the woman the other officer walks over to Mike

"Sir did you just come from this house"

"Yes sir, my wife and kids live here"

"got any ID on you"

"Yes sir" Mike got his navy ID out and showed the officer.

"Lieutenant Commander Mike Flynn"

"Yes sir, my wife is stationed at Watson bay as an instructor while i'm up in cairns, captain of one of the patrol boats. I flew down here four days ago to spend it with my family. I'm heading back today because Hammersley that the boat I'm the captain of leaves for patrol tomorrow morning"

"Got your driver's license with you"

"Yes sir" Mike showed the officer a special driver's license that all arm forces personnel have because of the different transfers to different parts of the county.

"Ok what is your wife's name"

"Lieutenant Kate Flynn"

the officer walked a few feet away and called over his radio to have Mike check out. After learning that what Mike says is true about him being up in Cairns and that Kate lives at the address where they are at. He walks back over to Mike, giving both ID and driver's license back.

"you check out lieutenant commander"

"Thank you officer, may I go, I don't want to miss my flight"

"Sure, I'll need some details before you go" Mike passed the officer his card.

"Here is where you can contact me, officer"

"Thank you, sorry about this. You are the one who doesn't need to apologize to me" they shook hands.

"Thank you for your services lieutenant commander"

"Your welcome sir" Mike got into the taxi and started leaving when he heard the woman screaming when a car showed up and parked in the driveway and a man got out.

"Officers, what's going on here"

"These useless officers just let a thief go," she said, yelling angrily.

"Karen calm down, officers can you tell me what happened"

"You are sir"

"James Adams, I live here and she is my wife. So what happened"

"I saw a man coming out of the neighbors house carrying a bag, so I called the cops and stopped him from leaving. when these useless officers showed up they let him go" Karen said yelling.

"Calm down ma'am" the officer who was talking to her before.

"don't you dare tell me to calm down," she yelled at the officer.

"Karen shut up" James said yelling at her then shook his head at her then turned to the other officer.

"sorry about that officer"

"It's ok we are used to it. As for the gentleman I did talk to him and he showed me his ID and explained why he was here"

"Mike Flynn, my height is bigger, dark hair, blue, gray eyes"

"Yeah how do you know him?" Jame smile

"Met him last Sunday, his wife Kate invited me over since the family was having a barbeque dinner and she knew that Karen was away for a week. I accepted the invite. We got on well and he told me he misses his family"

"It must be hard for them"

"It can be for any couples. But Kate was waiting for an opening up in Cairns so she and their kids could move up there to be with Mike"

"Hopefully she can move up there soon"

"Same here, the family is wonderful, there kids are well mannered and polite, well the two older ones are"

"Two older ones"

"Yeah twin boys, fourteen years olds, then they got eighteen month old boy and nine month old twins, one of each"

"wow bit of an age gap"

"If you knew the story about the older twins, it would have shocked you. I know it shocked me"

"Mrs Flynn must have had them when she was young"

"It's not what you think"

"How so"

"Best bet is if you ask Kate about it"

"ok" they talk for a couple more minutes before leaving to return back to their patrol.

While James shook his head at his wife. "We are going to have a chic chat Karen, I hope you realize you just embarrassed yourself in front of the neighborhood"

"At least I'm doing something"

"there are other neighbors who saw everything that happened and they know who the man is. if he was a burglar, then he wouldn't walk out the front door in front of everyone"

"Well then who the hell is he since you know him"

"It was Kate's husband Mike from Cairns"

"You know him"

"I met him on Sunday and Kate invited me over to dinner. Look Karen, Kate and her family haven't done one thing wrong but you always find something to complain about. I've seen the way Kate keeps her cool all this time, it is how she is trained to do in a situation like this. One day she will have a go at you and when that day comes. I won't be interfering. From what Mike told me about Kate she would make you peed in your pants" James said before turning around and walking towards the kitchen leaving Karen standing there.
