Mike got his cell phone out and dial the number. "Hello this is Mike Flynn can I talk to Connor Flynn he my grand father... thank you" Mike look at Kate the whole time
"Hello grand dad merry Christmas … Yes Kate is fine... yes grand dad. Kate sent you a Christmas gift, have you open it?... ok I'll hang on" Then he move phone away
"He opening it now" Mike said quietly then put the phone back to his ear and waited
"Yes Grand dad I'm still here... it an ultra sound... yes... grand dad there three circles in those three circles are strange looking blobs... yes you do see them... what are they. Grand dad they are your great grand children. Kate pregnant" mike said smiling "Yes triplets Kate said that they not identical... one or two will be boys grand dad to carry on with the Flynn name... Yes twelve weeks. I found out few minutes ago my self... yes some Christmas present... yes I'll look after her and kids... I will grand dad... yes I will... Yes she here" then he past the phone to Kate
"Merry Christmas Connor... yes he over the moon... no not yet but soon... I will look after my self...sure I'll send you photos of my pregnancy... yes and ultra sound... I will... alright... bye" then she hung up.
"He want weekly photos of me and ultra sound pictures" Kate said smiling
"Well lucky I got a camera we should take one now" Mike said as he walk out of the living room.
Kate walk over and sat next to her father "Are you ok dad"
"Yes I am, your grand parents they going to be so happy when they find out"
"They will at six o'clock tonight"
"what do you mean six o'clock tonight" Kate smile
"It would be nine o'clock in the morning in England then" Ed thought about it and smile
"Your right Kate" they hug just as mike return with the camera.
"Ready Kate" Kate stood up
"Let's do it out side"
"Why not" Mike said.
They walk out side to a good spot where mike took photo of Kate in the front then she turn side ways and pull her lose top tight showing the baby bump.
"Mike here let me take a photo of the two of you" Ed said
"thanks" Mike pass the camera to Ed then he walk over and wrap his arms around Kate just as she did in return.
They smile for the camera when Ed took the photo. "done"
"thanks Ed" Kate look at her watch then look at mike
"Your parents will be opening there gift about now" she said smiling.
At Paul and Alice place all the family showed up including Paul brother, his wife, there kids and grand kids. Alice walk out side since every one was out side.
"Paul" He stood up as Alice stood next to him
"Mum what going on" Jo asked.
"Kate ask us to open this gift at this time she said it to the family" Then she remove the paper from the box.
Paul open it and saw a picture in side he pick it up "Ultra sound picture and piece of paper saying twelve weeks times three"
"What" Jo said as she stood up and walk over to look at the ultra sound and her eyes and mouth widen
"Kate pregnant" Jo yell out every one cheered
"But what about this note" Paul said. Jo look at it then to the ultra sound
"Twelve weeks... Kate twelve weeks pregnant... with triplets" Every one look shock
"Look dad, here, here and here" she pointed to the ultra sound
"Well I be dam" Paul said grinning.
Alice walk in side the house while Jo pass the ultra sound to her husband to look at it.
"That is a best Christmas gift ever for this family. After almost five years it finally happen" Michele said
"Well they did have a lot of practice Michele" Jane said making the adults laugh
"True" the Alice walk out side and pass the cordless phone to Paul who called mike.
"Merry Christmas mike or shall I say dad" Every one laugh
"Yes every one shock and happy for you and Kate... How is she doing... she will be like that for a while... yes now we know what wrong with her we will take care of here while your out on patrol... we know, have you called dad... you have... I bet he is over the moon... How did Ed take the news" then he laugh
"Well I was like that when I first found out about being a grand father... I'm sure... here your mum"
he pass the phone to Alice so she could talk to him then his sisters did giving him and Kate a hard time about it which made every one laugh. By the time they hung up every one was in a very happy mood.
Mike and Kate enjoyed there Christmas day with Ed. Mike received number of phone calls from other family members when they received word about Kate pregnancy. That night Ed call his parents since they and Kate other grand parents were spending Christmas together at his house since he was with Kate and Mike.
"hi mum merry Christmas... thanks... have you open Kate gift?... you have... it an ultra sound picture..." he look at Kate as he smile
"See three circles... yes... they are your great grand children... yes Kate pregnant with triplets" he move the phone away from his ear as his mother yell out to the others about the baby news then he move it back to his ear
"no Mike didn't know till Kate told us both at the same time... yes she did... mike family is over the moon about it..." then he laugh
"Yes his sisters did tease him and Kate about it... sure here she is" then he past the phone to Kate
"hi grand ma merry Christmas... yes he very happy... shock... yes he happy... Yes Jane told mike and me at lest we had plenty of practice..." Kate laugh
"Yes grand ma he did tease her in return... don't worry I will grand ma... yes he here" then she past the phone to mike. He spoke to Kate grand mother and others for a few minutes then Ed and Kate did as well before hang up.
The next day Ed, Mike and Kate went shopping. Kate wanted to go to maturity shop to see what they got in as well start looking at baby things that they would be needing for the nursery. Mike let Kate do what she wanted since it makes her happy. Ed notice it and since Kate was trying on a dress Ed turn to mike
"mike I notice you letting Kate do what ever she wanted to make her happy"
"I am Ed, I'm keeping my promise and that is to keep Kate happy and that is what I'm doing"
"What about you mike"
"so long as Kate happy that all that matters to me"
"don't worry dad I keep mike happy also" they turn to Kate seeing her in a yellow summer dress
"How Kate he spending a lot of money on you today"
"don't worry dad, we talk about it it called negotiations and we both happy with it"
"ok"
"so Mike what do you think" she turn around in it
"do you like it"
"Yes but do you"
"Yeah I do"
"Great" she step ford and kiss him then return back to the dressing room to try some thing else on.
Kate try different out fits on some she like but mike didn't and there others mike like but Kate didn't and there some that they both didn't like. Ed watch them as they talk about each of the items.
Three hours later they walk out of the maturity shop carrying three bags while talking and holding hands. "Where would you like to go Kate" Mike asked
They stop and Kate look around and then at mike then she turn and headed to the food court holding mike hand. Ed follow while smiling. When Kate stop at food stand she waited in line with mike beside her
"you want an ice cream" mike asked.
Kate turn to him while smiling "Banana thick shake" Mike smile
"ok, what size"
"there only one size mike"
"no take a look" Kate turn to see that there was three different sizes
"Extra large" she said out loud
"Ok" then he turn to grinning Ed
"Is there any thing you like Ed"
"no I'm fine thanks Mike"
"ok" Mike and Kate waited till it was there turn to order.
"One extra large super banana thick shake please"
"Yes sir" mike got his wallet out and paid for the shake while another staff member started making it up.
When done the women pass the shake to mike "thank you" Mike said smiling as he pass it to Kate he started drinking it as they walk away
"wow it is thick and cold"
"Well that what you wanted Kate" mike said smiling
"Yes thanks" she lean over and kiss him then they walk around while Kate has her drink.
When finish they stop out side the toilets so they went to use them then they went to a cafe for lunch. After lunch they went to the baby store to see what they got there. They look around to see different things that a baby needs. Kate turn to mike
"Mike what do you say we start buying things for the nursery since we don't know when we can go shopping again together"
"Are you sure Kate"
"Yes since I don't know where I'll be station at since your here"
"Your right, why not make a start"
Kate hug and kiss Mike in the store then they look at different things that in there. Ed also suggested different things as well. The staff notice them checking different things out and saw the young couple hug and kiss in the shore. They carry on working till Mike walk up to the counter with different things in his arms
"Is it alright if I can have them here, my wife isn't finish yet"
"Yes sir, if you like you can leave your bags here" a women said when she saw Mike carrying three bags
"thanks" Mike put the items on the counter and bags between chair and counter the women look at the items then to mike
"We expecting triplets" the women grin
"congratulation, if you need any help with any thing let me know"
"thanks" Mike turn and walk back over to where Kate and Ed is.
They spent over an hour in the store looking at different things as well decided on what to buy. They laugh at the different items that is there. When they walk up to the counter Mike and Ed were carrying number of items. They put them on the counter.
"Wow you sure off to a great start here sir, ma'am" the women said smiling
"thanks We don't get a chance to do much shopping or spent time together" Kate said
"Oh are you navy?"
"Yes we both are"
"that understanding my brother in law in the navy he in Canberra doing his ADFA training"
"Ok what year" Kate asked
"third so he been hard on him and is wife"
"We know what that like with mike here in Cairns when I was in Canberra then Sydney at Watson bay for a year"
"How do you two manage being apart"
"a lot of letters and when we are together we spend every moment together"
"How long have you two been married for if you don't mind me asking"
"five years next month" mike said
"five years so this is your first babies"
"Yes and it a Christmas present from me to our families" Kate said smiling
"wow that must be some present"
"It was, mike sisters tease him about it but they and every one happy for us"
"that is good news, how far long are you ma'am"
"Twelve weeks"
"congratulations"
"thank you" the women tell up the items and put them into bags.
When finish she pick up a bunch of brochures and put them in one of the bags
"what that you put in the bag" Kate asked
"brochures ma'am on cots, strollers, things baby needs"
"thank you" Kate said smiling Mike got his card out and paid for the items then he and Ed pick up the bags. When Kate was just about to Mike beat her to it
"Kate"
"Mike... oh fine I'll carry these" She pick up the three bags
"since yours and dad hands are full and this is light"
"alright, come on" they walk out the story carrying number of bag items while talking about what to have for dinner.
When they got home Mike made Kate sit down and relax since he notice she was looking a bit tied. Kate didn't argue with Mike so she sat out side on the lounge chair with her eyes close till she felt lips on her's. When she open them she smile
"Here I got you a cold drink" Mike pass Kate glass of cranberry juice with couple of ice cubes in it
"thanks mike, where dad"
"Here he comes" Ed walk out side and over to them.
He sat down at the table since mike got two beer bottles on the table. They talk about nursery theme for the nursery as well names. That night Mike cook up chicken stir fry for dinner.
The next day they look through the brochures looking at different strollers, cots, car seats, every thing that there babies would need. Three days later Mike cell phone rang so he answer it. Kate saw the look on his face and knew.
When he hung up. "Crash sail" Kate said
"sorry honey. That storm we heard on the news couple days ago, it hit some island up north bad. We and other ships are taking aid supplies up there"
"How long"
"A Week I don't know depends on how bad it is" they stood up and hug and kiss.
"I'll take you to the port" Kate said
"thanks, I'll go and get change" then he walk in side.
Kate turn to her father "So much for shore leave"
"As you say Kate that the navy for you"
"True"
Half an hour later Kate drop Mike off on the docks in front of HMAS Huon. They got out of the car and walk till they were in front of the car. Mike put his bag on the ground. Then he and Kate hug and kiss.
"I'll let you know when I return Kate"
"i know you will, love you"
"love you to" they kiss once more
"Fair winds" Kate said.
Mike pick up his bag then he walk over to the gang way and up and onto the ship. Kate watch mike walk to a door and through it while crew was carrying boxes onto the ship. Kate got back into the car and drove home.
Kate and Ed and a quiet new year, they stayed at home since Kate was tired and was in bed by ten at night. On the fourth of January there was a knock on the door so Kate went to see who it was. When she open the door
"Can I help you"
"Mrs Kate Flynn"
"Yes"
"Here ma'am can you sign this please" he show Kate where to sign then he pass her a pen.
She sign it and pass it back to him. Then he bend down and pick up two dozen long stem red roses and pass them to her
"Here you go ma'am"
"thank you" the guy turn and walk back to his van.
Kate step back and close the door. She turn around and walk into the kitchen where she got a vase out and fill it with water. Then she put the roses into the vase
"Who was at the door Kate"
"delivery guy" then she saw the card. She pull it out from the roses
"Mike sent you these" Ed said when he saw the roses
"don't know" she open the envelope and pulled out the card
"to my loving wife happy fifth anniversary Kate, sorry I can't be there to give you these in person, all my love, Mike" Kate said out loud.
"Mike sure can be full of surprises Kate"
"i know dad"
Later that night Kate was in bed sleeping when the door open. It woke Kate up so she rolled over and turn the bed side lamp on to see who in the room
"mike" she said in shock as she sat up
"sorry it I woke you" He put his bag on the chair then walk over to Kate side of the bed and sat down, then he lean over and gave her a kiss
"Mike why didn't you call, I would of come down and pick you up"
"I knew you need your rest Kate that why I got a taxi ride home. Did you get my surprise" Kate smile and kiss him
"Yes I received your roses, thank you Mike, I love them"
"I did have plans of taking you out to dinner tonight but instead..."
"Navy timing" Kate said
"Yeah, I'm going to have a shower, I won't be to long"
"ok" Mike kiss Kate once more before he stood up just as Kate lay back in bed. He walk into the bathroom to have his shower.
Kate listen till she heard the shower running so she got up and walk to the bathroom opening the door and walking in closing the door behind her. She remove her nightie and panties then she walk to the shower and open the door and step in closing the door behind her. Mike turn around as Kate step ford warping her arms around his neck and kissing him passionately.
When they broke apart. "Kate"
"Yes mike"
"Are you ok"
"Yes, your back needs washing" mike smile and kiss Kate back.
Kate did wash Mike back after they made love while in the shower. Hour and a half after Kate step in to the showers they were in bed snuggling up to each other as they falling asleep.
The next morning Ed was surprise when Mike and Kate walk into the kitchen
"morning Mike, Kate, sleep well"
"Yes dad we did"
"i didn't hear you come in mike"
"i got in after elven thirty last night. It been along tiring few days"
"we heard on the news" Kate cook up some breakfast while they talk about what happen with the islands.
Later that morning Kate cell phone rang so she answer it "Kate McGregor, hello... yes sir... no sir... when do I start sir... yes sir I'll be there... yes sir...Sir what about my uniform... Ok I'll call my in laws Paul and Alice Flynn and see if they can pick it up sir... Sir there shouldn't be any problem... sir my father is law is retied rear admiral Paul Flynn... yes he still got navy pass... yes sir... yes sir" then they hung up.
"Kate" Mike asked
"i start my shore posting on Monday in Sydney"
"Sydney" Mike said
"Yes" then she dial Paul and Alice home phone number.
"Hello Paul it Kate... I'm good thanks... Yes he has been... yes they were crash sailed, he arrived home last night... reason why a called. I wondering if you can go to the base to pick up my maturity uniform today please... I'm returning in the next couple of days... I start on Monday commodore Newman just called... yes... thanks Paul" Kate smile
"sure I'll let you know soon as book a flight... ok talk to you soon, bye" then they hung up.
"Dad going to pick up my uniform and for me to let him know when my flight is" Mike reach over and put his hand into hers
"Are you ok Kate"
"no I was hopping to get posting up here"
"At least you at Sydney where family is"
"Yeah, I better call the air lines" Kate stood up and walk in side to get the air lines phone number.
"This is going to be hard for both Kate and me" Mike said
"It will now Mike you both survive five years perhaps it only temporary in Sydney till and opening comes up here"
"Yeah your right. At least at mum and dad can look after her" Mike said as he drink his juice.
Two days later Mike and Ed hug Kate at the air port before she boarded the plane to Sydney. Mike and Kate hug and kiss. "I'll see you in two months" mike said
"I promise I'll send weekly photos and ultra sound pictures to you"
"i know you will Kate, I'm going to miss out on being there when you have the ultra sounds"
"I know, love you" Kate said
"Love you to" they hug and kiss once more before Kate walk towards the exit following the other passengers.
Mike and Ed watch Kate board the plane and watch it take off before they walk out of the air port and back to the house.
