CH 23
Couple hours later out on HMAS Huon the bridge phone ring "Huon commander Adams speaking... yes sir he here" then he turn to mike
"It for you" He pass the phone to mike
"Lieutenant commander Flynn speaking... I'll hold... dad what wrong... how high is it... ok... what the message..." mike smile
"Yes I know what that means... how is she really dad... ok dose the rest of the family know..." mike laugh
"Thanks, I needed that have you called Ed... ok keep me up to date on Kate will you dad... thanks for calling I was worried after what happen last week... ok thanks dad, bye" then he hung up
"Every thing ok" Captain asked
"Kate was admitted into hospital couple hours ago, her blood pressure still high. She going to be in there for the remaining of her pregnancy"
"How far long is she?" Captain asked
"almost seven months. If she and kids can hang in there till her seven and half month mark they will have more of a change but after seven month mark is good"
"We got two more weeks of this then you on maturity leave"
"I know I hope that Kate will be ok till then"
"She will be, her and your kids"
"i know sir"
The next morning Kate was reading the morning paper when there was a knock on the door. She look up to a man in the door way "Can I help you sir"
"Mrs Kate Flynn"
"Yes" Kate folded the news paper and put it on the tray when the man walk in carrying large bouquet of red roses. Kate smile knowing who they are from
"Here you go ma'am" He pass them to her
"thank you" he smile then turn and walk out of the room just as a nurse walk in
"wow who the lucky guy that sent you roses" the nurse said Kate took the card out from among the roses then she put them on the tray then she open the envelope and pull the card out
"My loving husband. He said he wish he was here with me now"
"Lucky you, I never got any thing like that from my husband when I had my two kids"
"Really. Well with mike it hard with him being up in Cairns and I'm here"
"I bet it is, I'll go and get a vase for you after you BP check"
"ok, thanks" the nurse took Kate blood pressure then she wrote it on Kate chart before laving the room.
Kate lifted the roses and smell them. "Oh mike I wish you were here right now" then she put them on the tray once again.
When the nurse return with vase with water in it she took care of the roses for Kate. When done she look at Kate who was looking at the roses. "Is there any thing I can get for you Kate"
"I'm good thank you"
"ok" then the nurse walk out of her room.
Later that afternoon Paul and Alice showed up for a visit "Kate... wow did mike send you those" Alice asked
"Yes he did"
"that good of him how are you feeling" Paul asked
"I'm good I been taking naps in the morning and I just had one before you showed up"
"that good that you getting plenty of rest" Alice said
"i am" Paul and Alice stayed for two hours before leaving since it was almost dinner time and visiting hours were over for the day.
The next day when Kate was sleeping commodore walk into her room to see she was sleeping and he saw five bunches of flowers in the room he notice a large bunch of red roses so he knew that they would be from Mike. So he walk over to the tray table when he saw pen and pad on it so he wrote a note for Kate then he walk out quietly with out waking her.
When Kate woke up it was her nurse putting Kate lunch on the tray. So Kate raise her bed "enjoy your nap"
"Yes I did thanks"
"Some one came to see you" nurse pass Kate the pad. Kate read what it said.
"Can I use the phone please"
"sure, I'll get it for you"
"Thanks" the nurse walk out of the room.
Kate started eating her lunch why wounder why the commodore wanted to talk to her. When the nurse return with the cordless phone she pass it to Kate
"thanks" then she walk out of the room.
Kate dials base number "Hello leader Johnson speaking"
"Leader it lieutenant McGregor is commodore Newman in"
"hi lieutenant yes he is I'll put you through"
"thanks" Kate heard two clicks and ringing once
"commodore Newman speaking"
"sir it lieutenant McGregor I received your message"
"Ok I was going to talk to you but you were asleep that why I left the message"
"Ok is every thing ok"
"Yes relax the reason why I pay you a visit was I spoke to fleet command about the project you were working on"
"what did they say sir"
"they are impress but since that was part of the project that you were working on with my recommendation of putting your name down to do the full training for the Anzac project which goes for a year"
"full training sir when"
"Next year at Watson bay. With your record lieutenant there shouldn't be any problems for you getting in"
"do you know when it start sir?"
"end of January in time since your maturity leave finish at that time"
"I'm honored sir" Kate said smiling
"your welcome but remember this lieutenant it up to fleet command to decided who will be in to do the training, it not just the lieutenants it also lieutenant commanders as well"
"Really sir do you know how many will be doing the training sir?"
"twenty, ten lieutenants and ten lieutenant commanders"
"Ok thanks for telling me sir"
"Your welcome, Plus no one else must know about it. Not even your husband, under stand"
"Yes sir I under stand, when will the project will be official?"
"not till December"
"thanks for tell me that sir"
"now relax you got your self and your babies to worry about."
"I'll try sir and thanks you for giving me the good news"
"Your welcome" then they hung up
"wow" Kate said smiling.
then she start eating her lunch and the food she brought from the cafe that morning since a orderly took her down in a wheel chair so she could buy some things then return back to her room.
Over the two weeks, Kate was starting to feel uncomfortable which was expected since she been in bed the whole time except for when she needed to go to the loo, showers and walk in the hospital swimming pool which she finds relaxing and it tires her out plus kids love it also as they tell her with a kick or two. Kate wore a bikini when she went for her daily walks in the pool. She always had some one with her.
One day Kate woke up from her afternoon nap when some one kiss her. When she open her eyes they widen "Mike" she wrap her arms around his neck to pull him down for a passionate kiss.
When they broke for air, he manage to sit on the edge of the bed. "surprise"
"You could say that again..." she pull him in for another kiss
"i miss you"
"i miss you two. How are you feeling"
"Back been killing me, can't get comfortable, I'm tired, grumpy and big as a house" Kate said with tears in her eyes.
Mike wipe them away. "First of all I'm here to give you those back rubs that you love so much. Two... we know why your not comfortable cause of kids that we created out of the love we have each other and reason why your tired is to be expected as for you being grumpy well I'm here to make sure you won't be grumpy. As for big as a house, you not Kate, you beautiful and I love and miss you so much"
"i love you to mike"
"So how about you roll over you side so I can give you that back rub" Kate smile then pull him towards her for a kiss
"that would be great Mike"
Kate lower the bed then she rolled on to her side. Mike manage to lift Kate nightie up and put some baby oil on to his hand and put it onto her back and started working his magic.
"Mmm that feels good mike"
"that good"
"How was your patrol"
"busy. Dad called me twice a week for up dates on you and kids"
"I know he told me"
"So what have you been doing while in here"
"sleeping and going for walks in the swimming pool I find it relaxing, tiring and kids love it"
"that good when do you have your walks"
"in the morning after breakfast"
"Ok I could come and join you if you like"
"I would love that Mike"
"good, so any thing happen while I was away"
"Yes I finish the project I was working on for fleet command before I was admitted in here"
"Do you know what fleet command thought about it"
"they are impress, in fact it was part of the project"
"what do you mean part"
"all I can say it was part of a project I wish I can tell you more mike but I can't"
"I under stand, it classified stuff"
"yes"
"How your back now"
"Feels great mike, just what I needed"
"good" Mike and Kate talk for another five minutes before Kate rolled onto her back after mike finish rubbing her back.
"Feeling better less grumpy" Kate smile
"Yes but now I'm hungry"
"what would you like to eat"
"how about taking me down to the cafe"
"ok"
Mike help Kate out of bed and put a robe on then into a wheel chair that in the room. Then he got a blanket that he removed from the wheel chair and cover her legs with it. Then he push her out of the room and down to the cafe. When they arrived mike bend over to Kate
"order what ever you want" Kate turn and kiss him
"thanks mike" He push her to where the trays are.
He got one and put three plates on it. Mike push the wheel chair while Kate pull the tray along till they got what they needed. Then Mike paid for the food and drinks. Then he pick it up and put it on a table close by then he wheel Kate over to the table then he sat down when the doctor walk over to them
"Kate" she turn to him
"doctor Davidson"
"mike right"
"Yes" they shook hands
"I see you here for your afternoon snack Kate"
"yes kids were hungry" He laugh
"I bet, so any more back problems"
"Yes but not now thanks to mike you his wonderful hands" Kate said smiling
"that is good, I'll let you enjoy your afternoon snack"
"thanks doctor" Kate said then the doctor walk away.
"How long have you got off mike" Kate asked as she bit into her chicken salad sandwich
"till after kids are born, my temporary replacement started early than plan, he under stood and wish us the best"
"that good of him"
"Yeah it was" they talk for an hour before returning back to Kate room where mike stayed till visiting hours were over. He kiss Kate before leaving since her dinner would be arriving in few minutes.
Over the next week Mike showed up every morning since he got the doctors ok to be with Kate when she goes for her morning walks. He arrived in her room just after she got change in her bikini and got a robe on and a blanket wrap around her.
Mike push the wheel chair down to the swimming pool then he help Kate out of the chair and into the pool then he goes and quickly get change in to his swimming shorts then join her in the pool where they walk to one side of the pool to another and back again.
Some times Kate stops cause of the back pain was starting to get worse so mike rub her back for her which helps. When Kate finish her walks, mike helps her out of the pool and dry her down the put the robe back on before she sits down then he quickly drys down and put a tee shirt on then he put his bag on the handle bars before taking Kate back to her room where he grab few things for Kate then take her down to where the showers are.
He help Kate out of the wheel chair and remove her robe and bikini then onto the shower stool then he got her things out of toilet bag then started the shower for Kate and handed her the shower head so she could do what she could while he remove his shorts and tee shirt then he join Kate in the showers since they are walk in showers.
Mike help wash Kate and then him self. When done and shower turn off. Mike pass a towel to Kate so she could dry her top half while he try the bottom half of her then he let her do her hair while she doing that he quickly dry down and gotten dress then he help Kate get dress and into the wheel chair.
Then he quickly clean up the mess and put Kate and his things back in there toilet bags then he put his in his bag and Kate over the handle bar then he wheel the wheel chair back to Kate room then he help Kate out of the wheel chair and into bed.
"thanks mike" Kate said tiredly. He gives her a kiss
"Get some rest"
"sounds good" she close her eyes and fall into peaceful sleep.
Mike sorted out the wet clothing and toilet bags then he sat down with a book in hand and started reading it till Kate wakes up.
One day Mike look up when he heard foot steps entering Kate room. Mike smile as he stood up and step forward
"Ed it great to see you again" they shook hands and hug
"you to mike. How Kate"
"Good, her blood pressure back to normal"
"That is good news" Alice said since she and Paul also in the room.
"Yes it is" They turn to see Kate still sleeping.
Ed step forward to side of Kate bed and bend over and kiss her forehead then he put his hand on her expanding stomach since she got a sheet over her since it warm day. He felt movement under his hand which made him smile. Then he remove his hand and turn to mike.
"What does the doctors say about when she can give birth"
"soon since she reach the seven and half mark. So it could be any day now"
"Is she having a normal birth or C section."
"At this stage normal birth"
"Ok"
"Please sit Kate will be awake in the next fifteen minutes" Mike said as they all sat down around the bed
"how do you know this" Ed asked.
Mike smile "Kate sleeps for an hour and a half in the morning and same in the afternoon"
"Ah. I've seen the nursery you done a great job" Ed said
"Thanks. Kate hasn't seen it yet since she in here"
"I'm sure she would love it"
"I know she will" Mike said.
They talk quietly till mike turn to look at Kate as she starting to wake up. "Hey sleeping beauty, enjoy your nap" Mike said
"I don't like being called sleeping beauty" Kate said in grumpy mood which cause her eyes to open and turn to see her father laughing
"Dad"
"Hello sleeping beauty" Ed said smiling as he reach over and held onto her hand
"I'm not sleeping beauty"
"To us you are and yes I know you hate being called that"
"Well" Kate said looking at her father
"It good to see you ok besides being grumpy" Ed said then turn to the others
"she hated being called sleeping beauty since she was little and she hasn't change"
"i have dad" he turn to her
"Yes I know but you will still remind me that you were like that when you were a little girl"
"i know dad. I'm happy your here"
"Same here"
Kate went to sit up as she move the sheet off her as Mike got up and help her out of bed and walk to the bathroom where they walk in and close the door behind him.
"Mike knows what Kate habits are" Alice said
"Yes he dose. Just the looks between them, that all they need and they know" Paul said.
Couple minutes later they heard the door open and giggling coming from Kate as Mike help her walk back to bed. Once Kate was back in bed and sheet over her she tilted the bed so she could see every one a bit better.
"that better" Kate said
Just as mike got three paper bags out of the bed side draw and open them up and put them on the trolly tray then he open a bottle of orange juice that he brought before Ed, Alice and Paul showed up.
He pass that to Kate then he open the apple juice just as Kate drank the five hundred mil bottle with in seconds then she let out her breath and lick her lips. Then she pass the empty bottle to mike so he could put the lids on it while Kate pick up her custard square and started eating it. Paul, Alice and Ed watch what was going on between mike and Kate.
"What" Kate said
"You drank that whole bottle in seconds" Ed said
"i was thirsty" Mike grin
"you have that every day" Ed asked when he saw what was in the paper bags
"In the morning I do"
"In the afternoons Kate eat four muffins and a sandwich or two down at the cafe with a cup of tea" Mike said smiling
"I can tell Kate is happy" ed said
"Yes she is despite her waking up grumpy, that and her back giving her problems"
"Well at least it not long to go now" Alice said
"Yeah then some how lose all this baby fat I gain and getting fit again" Kate said
"Well at least you can go swimming" Mike said
"True and return back to yoga" Kate said.
They talk till lunch time so they left when Kate lunch arrived. They walk down to the hospital cafe for lunch while talking for an hour then return back to Kate room where they talk for half an hour when Kate was starting to fall asleep so Paul, Alice and Ed left Mike and Kate alone. After they left Mike kiss Kate just as she was falling a sleep.
