CH 24
Three days later Mike cell phone rings so he turn the light on and pick it up when it saw it was after two in the morning "Hello" mike said half a sleep
"what" he sat up and push the covers off him
"Ok I'm on my way, thanks for calling"
then he hung up as she stood up and put the phone on the bed then he quickly got dress and been to the bathroom to go to the loo before walking out of the bedroom with phone in hand and turning off the lamp light. Mike walk down stairs and turn the kitchen light on.
He left a message on the fridge before turning the light off and walk out the back door closing and locking it. He walk to Kate car unlocking it and turning the alarm off. Then he open the door and got in then close the door he put the keys in the ignition and turn it on as he put his seat belt on before leaving the drive way.
When he arrived at the hospital he ran down to Kate room since there hardly any one up beside the night staff doing there rounds. When he ran into her room he stop when he saw her breathing and a baby monitors on her expanding stomach
"mike" He step forward till he was nest to her holding her hand and kiss her
"Is every thing ok"
"Yeah it happening now"
"Yes it is"
"I had a mid wife in here she said I could be giving birth with in the hour"
"Really" Mike said
"Yes... Mike when I last spoke to doctor Davidson I ask him if it possible for me to have a water birth like what we talk about. He said I can"
"do you want to Kate"
"Yes after all our kids love it when I walk around in the pool" mike smile
"that true" Kate squeeze his hand as she start her breathing
"contractions"
"yes" Mike held Kate hand till it pass.
"you doing good Kate"
"i know, have you told the family"
"no I left a note on the fridge door"
"ok"
Ten minutes later Doctor Davidson walk into the room "Morning Kate, Mike, let's see how we doing aye" He said looking at the prints out of each other the contractions and heart beats of the triplets
"Every thing looking good here soon you will be able to hold your bundle of joys" he said smiling
"doctor, mike and I talk we want the water birth" doctor smile
"no problems I'll go and make some called" then he walk out of the room.
"I hope nothing goes wrong" Kate said
"Kate every thing is going to be fine"
"i hope so mike" Mike kiss her
"It going to be ok" then Kate squeeze mike hand as she started breathing again
"that it Kate, you doing great" when it pass Kate relax.
Twenty minutes later Doctor Davidson and the mid wife return to see how far dilated Kate is.
"Kate we moving you into the birthing room now, you almost fully dilated" the doctor said.
"ok"
the doctor and mid wife remove the baby monitor from Kate then pull the sheet up over her stomach then two nurses showed up to pull the bed out of the room with Kate on it. Mike was next to Kate still holding her hand.
When they reach one of the birthing rooms it was a large room with a large bath in the middle of the room. There was nurses about getting every thing set up and the bath was filling up with water.
"Sir can you come with me" A nurse asked
"Why" mike asked
"so you get put pair of scrub paints on, I'm sure you don't want to get your jeans wet" Kate giggle
"Oh, sure" He turn to grinning Kate
"I'll be back in a couple of minutes"
"ok mike"
He follow the nurse into the next room while the other staff help Kate out of bed and remove her nightie. Then they help her walk over to the bath since the taps were turn off. They help her in to the bath and to sit down in one part of the bath leaning against foam rubber so it would be more comfortable for her back.
"This is much better" Kate said as she relaxes. Minute later mike walk back in the room wearing scrub pants and no top
"Dam Kate you got one good looking husband there are all navy men that good looking with out there shirts on" one nurse said making them all laugh
"I'm sure there is but Mike isn't good looking" Mike stop next to the bath looking down at smiling Kate
"I'm not good looking" mike said
"no your hot and sexy to me sailor" She gave him a wink which made the nurses laugh. Mike shook his head then he sat on the edge of the bath just as Kate grab his hand
"contractions" mike asked
"Yeah stronger and longer" Kate lean forward so mike rub her back for her.
"Ah there blood doctor" Kate said
"Good that means your first born is on his or her way. Mike can you get behind Kate"
Mike go into the bath and help Kate move ford after the contraction pass then he sat behind her with his legs on each side of her. Then she move back then lean against his chest and holding onto both of his hands
"This is it" Mike said
"Yeah" then Doctor Davidson got in to the bath since he also wearing scrubs.
"Ok Kate on the next contraction you push"
"ok" Few seconds later Kate squeeze mike hands as she start pushing
"that it Kate" doctor said
then Kate relax then she took a deep breath and started pushing again "that it, I can see the head you doing great"
Mike and Kate look at the mirror that on the other side of the bath on an angle they also could see the head. Mike whisper incouraging words to Kate during her contractions. They saw the head then one shoulder then the next. Then there first born came out with ease. The doctor lifted the baby out of the water then they heard it cry as it took it first breath
"congratulation it a boy" then he place there first born on Kate chest
"He goriest Kate"
"Yes he is mike and small" she turn mike and they kiss.
"Mike" the doctor pass him the sises so mike cut the cord then pass them to a nurse.
"Hello there son" mike said smiling. Kate rub her finger against there son cheek while there son was holding onto mike finger.
"Ah can some one take our son please. Oh boy"
Kate started breathing again so a nurse carefully pick up there son and put him in another nurse arms since she was holding a towel. Then they walk over to a table while Kate started pushing once again.
Two minutes later there second child was born "It a girl" the doctor said as he place her on Kate chest like there son.
Kate held onto there daughter for a minute when next contraction started so the same nurse pick up there daughter and pass her to another nurse.
"I'm so tired" Kate said
"It almost over Kate you doing really great" mike said
"I know" then she started pushing like before.
Two minutes later there third child was born "Congratulations, it a boy" Doctor said smiling as he place there third child onto Kate chest
"you did it Kate"
"i know" Kate said tiredly
They held onto there son for a minute before a nurse took him since Kate wanted to push again
"It only the placentas Kate" doctor said
"It doesn't feel like the placenta doctor" Kate said looking at him
"Kate" mike said
"I'm not sure, oh boy" then she started pushing.
The doctor look at Kate then look down "Oh my... nurse get towel ready. Kate that it push"
"doctor is that what I think it is" mike asked
"Yes it is" He said in shock.
Kate push then relax then push again till they saw the doctor lifted out of the water another baby
"It a girl" Kate and mike were shock
"Quads" mike said
"Yes, congratulations" He place the baby on Kate chest.
"no wounder I was getting back pains, now we know why" Kate said
"Yeah. I think we will have to buy more things Kate"
"Yeah a crib is one of them"
"True" Then the nurse took there daughter away to be weight and measured.
Kate started pushing again then relaxing. A minute later four placentas came out. When it was over the doctor got out of the bath and dry down the best he could and went to check on the babies while the nurses and mike help Kate out of the bath and over to corner of the room where shower is. The nurse pulled the curtain around since Kate was sitting on shower stool. Mike showered Kate while he kiss her.
"I'm prod of you Kate"
"thanks mike. I'm worried they are all small"
"i know that Kate remember what doctor told you when you found out you were carrying triplets"
"i know but quads. I hope that they are ok"
"they will be" When finish showering.
The nurses took care of drying Kate down while mike went to get change back in his clothes then he return back to the birthing room to see the nurses helping Kate back into bed.
"We taking you back to your room now" nurse said
"what, what about our babies"
"they will be put in the nursery. The doctor will talk to you both soon."
Two nurses wheel the bed back to Kate room with mike with her. When they got there and the nurses left Kate was starting to worry. Mike got onto the bed and held Kate in his arms as she started to cry
"It ok Kate, my sisters went through the same thing"
"I know but they small"
"i know but the doctor will let us know if any thing wrong with any of them"
Mike and Kate waited for an hour when Doctor Davidson open the door and walk into the room
"doctor are our babies ok"
"Yes they are fine. Your first born weight in at four pounds eight ounces. Your second born four pounds seven ounces. Your third born four pounds five ounces and surprise fourth born four pounds one ounce"
"that is small" mike said
"Yes but that is to be expected, we keeping them in incubators for a while"
"Can we see them" Kate asked
"sure I'll get a nurse to get a wheel chair for you"
"thank you" then he turn and walk out of the room.
"I'm calling mum and dad" mike said getting his cell phone out of his pocket and dial his parents home phone while still holding Kate in his arms
"Dad it mike. Sorry to wake you I'm at the hospital... they called me just after two... yes...Kate gave birth... dad they over four pounds... we were warn that they will be... is mum listening in... you coming now... ok... we will talk then... ok dad see you soon" then he hung up.
"Mum and dad are on there way, they going to wake Ed up"
"Ok" Mike held Kate till door open and nurse walk in with a wheel chair.
Mike got off the bed and he got Kate robe and pass it to her so she could put it on. Once it was on he pick Kate up in his arms
"Mike what are you doing"
"Carrying you" He put her in the wheel chair and got a blanket and put it over her legs.
Then the nurse turn the wheel chair around and push it out of the room with mike next to Kate. When they got the the nursery. The nurse push the wheel chair through one door then they went to another double door where it open. The nurse push the wheel chair through and then stop then the nurse walk out of the room, then the door close. Mike and Kate were shock with they saw four incubators in front of them.
"mike I want to see them"
Mike push the wheel chair closer to the first one. They could see name tag saying 'Flynn one' on it so they know it there first born. Kate started to cry when she saw wires attach to him and tube coming from his nose. Mike bend over and held Kate in his arms the best he could.
"Our babies mike"
"I know Kate"
"Excuse me Mrs Flynn" Kate turn to a nurse
"How are they"
"they doing well all of them"
"Can we touch them"
"not now but they are hungry. So can you express some milk for them. As you know the first feed is important"
"I know, have you got a breast pump"
"sure over here. I'll take you to it"
"ok" nurse push the wheel chair over to where Kate could express her milk.
Mike look at each of the four little babies. Both he and Kate know there names and please that they had two names for there third born if it was a boy or a girl. When the nurse push the wheel chair over to where mike is. He was looking down at there surprise little girl. Kate reach over and held onto mike Hand.
He turn to her and crouch down to hug her "Every thing is going to be fine Kate"
"I hope so Mike, we can't loss any of them"
"We won't" Then they turn when they saw same nurse injecting white stuff in a tube
"what you doing" Mike asked
"Feeding your daughter with Kate breast milk. Look she starting to settle" they look at there daughter who stop crying and started to settle.
Then they watch the nurse feed the other three as well and saw they way they stop crying and started to settle down. "How often are you feeding them like that" Mike asked
"Every two hours but the first feed is important to there health system"
"We know" Kate said looking at there first daughter.
"I'll leave you alone"
"thank you" mike said then the nurse walk out of the room. Mike and Kate look from one baby till another till they heard doors open
"Mike, Kate" they turn to see Ed, Paul and Alice walk into the room and over to them.
They all hug each other then look at three babies. "How are they" Alice asked
"they going to be ok, doctor Davidson want to keep all four of them in the incubators for a while" Mike said.
Ed, Paul and Alice look at mike "Did you say four" Paul said
"Yes dad four. Even we and the doctor were surprise" Mike said.
Then they turn to the fourth incubator then back to mike "Two boys, two girls" Alice asked
"Yes mum two boys and two girls"
"Your family is complete Mike, Kate"
"Yes it is"
Ed took photos of each of the babies while talking to Kate and mike for ten minutes then Mike took Kate back to her room since she was feeling tired. After she was in bed she fell asleep strait away.
Mike, Ed, Paul and Alice went down to the cafe since it open twenty four seven for some breakfast since it was after seven in the morning. They talk for over an hour before Ed, Paul and Alice left to return back home so they can call the rest of the family with the news while mike return back to Kate room where he spent all day with her and he took her down to where the kids are so she could express some milk for the nurses to give to there babies and to spend time with each of them before mike take Kate back to her room.
The next day mike flew to Brisbane to see his grand father so he can tell him in person. When he walk into his grand father room he was sitting up in bed since he hasn't been feeling well cause of a chest infection.
"Grand dad" connor look up and smile
"Mike this is a surprise" mike walk in and sat down
"I received Kate letter yesterday, she getting bigger"
"Yes she is grand dad"
"Mike what wrong, is every thing ok"
"Grand dad...Kate went into labor yesterday morning"
"what is every thing alright, you should be with her"
Mike pull photos out of his top pocket and pass them to his grand father. He look at each of the photos then to mike "she had them"
"Yes grand dad. but we got a surprise"
"what surprise"
"the last photo" Connor look down at the photos.
He look at them and he saw four photos, he look up at mike then down to see mike pick up a photo.
"She the surprise grand dad" Connor took the photo out of mike hand to take a closer look then he look at Mike
"four"
"yes grand dad, turn it over" connor turn it over to see it said
'Mary Katelyn McGregor Flynn. Born 4 pounds 1 ounce at 0356. 20/04/2001' Mike saw tears in Connor eyes, he look up at mike
"you name her Mary"
"yes grand dad, after grand ma"
"I know she would love to know that she got a great grand daughter name after her"
"i know she will like with this one" Mike pick up another photo and pass it to his grand father. When connor turn it over and saw his name he look up at mike
"We carrying on the family name grand dad"
"Mike I'm shock but I'm honored that you name your son after me"
"It was Kate idea"
connor pick up the other photos and turn them over to read there names, how much they weigh, and what time they were born. Mike spent four hours talking to his grand father before leaving since he was catching a flight back to Sydney.
The next morning when mike walk into Kate room he walk over and sat on the edge of the bed so they could hug and kiss. "miss you" Kate said
"miss you to Kate"
"where did you go yesterday, you didn't come to see me or kids"
"i flew to Brisbane to see grand dad in person. I took copy of baby photos with me" Kate look at mike
"How did he take the news" mike smile
"He shock that we had quads instead of triplets. But he happy that the Flynn name can carry on" Kate laugh
"that good to know but..."
"He was shock when he saw how small they are and that he cry for the first time since grand mother past away almost twenty five years ago"
"Why did he cry is it cause we name two of our children after him and his late wife"
"Yes. He said to me that grand ma would of love to have a great grand daughter name after her and he was honored that we name our first born after him" Kate smile
"We name our children after people who are close to us in one way or another"
"that true Kate. How are our kids" Kate smile
"I'm due to go down to give them more milk" mike smile
"Ok lets go and see our family"
"Why not" Kate said.
Mike got up and pick up Kate robe while she out out of bed and put slippers on that mike got for her then he help her put her robe of before they walk down to the nursery with there arms around each other while mike tells Kate about talks he had with his grand father the day before.
Three days late in liver pool, Melbourne, Sydney, cairns news papers it got 'Flynn-McGregor. Grand parents Paul and Alice Flynn (Sydney) Edwards McGregor (liver pool, England) and parents Mike and Kate (Nee McGregor) Flynn are happy to announce the safe arrival of Connor Mike Paul, Grace Alice, Patrick Liam Edwards and Mary Katelyn McGregor Flynn born on the 20/04/2001. In Sydney general Hospital. Both parents and quads doing well'
In the navy ADFA and Watson bay news letter 'lieutenant commander Mike Flynn (Cairns) and wife lieutenant Kate McGregor (Sydney) (ADFA 1999 sward award winner) are happy to announce the safe arrival of Connor Mike Paul, Grace Alice, Patrick Liam Edwards and Mary Katelyn McGregor Flynn born on the 20/04/2001. In Sydney general Hospital. Both parents and quads doing well'
When the ones who know mike and Kate read the paper were shock that Kate had quads when they knew she was carrying triplets. They were happy four Mike and Kate so they send there congratulations to Mike and Kate.
