CH 25
Week after babies were born Ed took new photos of the kids so mike could get copies so he could send them to family with Kate letter letting them know how the kids are doing. Plus at that time Kate received number of bouquets of flowers, helium balloons and cards from a lot of people that she and mike know. Plus Kate received a lot of visitors as well while in hospital.
On the second week Mike and Kate were able to hold onto there babies for the first time since they were born. The staff was please that they are gaining weight which made Mike and Kate happy. The day they held on to there babies Ed took number of photos of it happening. He even took a photo of mike and Kate holding all four kids in there arms while smiling for the camera.
When their families saw that one photo it made them smile knowing that mike and Kate are able to hold there babies for the first time in two weeks. At that time Ed manage to contact the company that build the cots for Kate and mike, he got them to send another one over at a rush after he told them the shocking news.
The company got onto it strait away since Ed gave the owner a lone so he could start his business ten years ago and now that business is booming.
On the third week Kate was shock that the doctor could send her home but she can come and see the kids every day while give breast milk since they still got tube that went into there nose and into there stomachs.
When mike took Kate home she was worried about there kids. But Mike reassure her every thing going to be ok. When they arrived back at Paul and Alice place. Mike held onto Kate hand and pulled her up stairs till he stop at a door
"open it" mike said
"what" Kate said
"open it" Kate open the door and walk in she gasp when she saw it was a nursery for there kids for when they bring them home. Kate walk in and look around at every thing
"Mike" she turn to him and step ford warping his arms around his neck kissing him
"I love it"
"You do"
"Yes but the fourth cot, how"
"you dad made call the day Mary was born, it arrived yesterday" Kate smile and kiss mike
"I love you so much"
"i love you to, come on dinner will be ready and I know it better than hospital food" Kate laugh
"Yes it is"
they walk out of the room and back down stairs where they join Ed, Paul and Alice in the dinning room for dinner. They talk about different things while enjoying dinner. Later that night Mike held Kate in his arms for the first time in months as they sleep.
Early the next morning Kate got up and went to use the breast pump that the hospital gave to her to use and a bottle to put the milk in. When she finish. Kate got into her swim suit, then she pick up a towel, baby bottle full of breast milk and breast pump. She walk out of the bedroom with out waking mike up and walk down stairs.
She put the bottle in the fridge and the breast pump part in the dish washer since it was dish washer safe. Then she walk out side and over to the pool. She put the towel over the chair then walk to the pool and dip her foot into it then she dive in and started swimming so many lengths of the pool. When finish she sat on the steps for a couple of minutes when she heard door open behind her so she turn to see Mike walking out side and over to her since he was dress
"Hey enjoyed your swim"
"Yeah it going to take a while for me to get use to it again"
"I'm sure you will" he pick up the towel just as Kate stood up and got out of the pool and step ford to give him a kiss just as he wrap the towel around her shoulders.
"how are you feeling now"
"I'm good" Kate said as she start to dry down
"Ok, mum up she getting breakfast on"
"Ok I'll go and have a shower" She gives him a kiss then she turn and walk in side. Mike watch her walk in side then he walk in side while smiling.
Hour and half later Kate and mike walk into the nursery. Kate pass the bag that got the bottle milk in it to one of the nurses then she walk over to where Mike is. They look at two of the babies who a wake since the other two are asleep.
"You can hold them if you like" nurse said as she walk over to them
"that would be great" Kate said
"sit down and I'll pass them to you both"
"thanks" mike said.
Mike and Kate sat down next to the incubators while the nurse for the first baby out and pass it to Kate then she did the same with the other one when she pass it to Mike. Mike and Kate talk to them till another nurse walk over and injected the milk into the line.
When done both babies settle down and they turn there heads towards there parents chests as Mike and Kate talk to them till they fallen to sleep. Mike and Kate spent the day with there kids, while there Kate use the breast pump three more times before she and left to return back home for the night.
They did the same thing every day for a week till one day when they return back to the nursery after lunch when they notice the tubes that was in there nose was gone and one of them woke up for a feed. When the nurse walk over to the crying baby Kate look at the nurse
"Where the feeding tube" Kate asked
"It was taken out Doctor Davidson is please with there weight gain and he want all four of them to get use to breast feeding and the bottle. So would you like to try to breast Mary" Kate smile
"Yes"
"Ok lets get you sorted first"
Kate sat down she undid her top then move it to the side then she unclasp her maturity bra while nurse pick up Mary and pass her to Kate. Kate carefully held onto Mary and carefully turn her to her breast. Mary turn her head to Kate breast till her mouth was over Kate nipple then she stop crying and started sucking on it.
Kate watch her drink then look up to mike who was also smiling then he move chair closer to Kate side then sat down and watch there youngest daughter have her first breast feed till she was full. When she was and move her head away.
Kate carefully lifted Mary to her shoulder and rub her back gently till they heard her burp. Kate held on to Mary for few more minutes then she pass her to mike to hold since one of the others woke up for there feed. So Kate did it again with no problems with there son or daughter breast feeding which the nurses were happy about.
That night when they return back to Mike parent place they were smiling. "Hey how the kids" Ed asked
"they doing great dad in fact we got some great news to share"
"what the good news"
"I breast feed all four of them for the first time this afternoon" Kate said smiling
"that is great news Kate" Alice said
"Yes it is and if all goes well we might be bring them home with in the next two weeks" Mike said
"that is great news" Paul said
"Kate and I are going for a swim before dinner"
"ok"
Mike and Kate walk up stairs talking while Alice pick up the cordless phone and started making phone call to the family about the great news about the quads.
Over the next two weeks Kate and mike were able not only breast feed but bottle feed all four of there kids. Doctor Davidson is happy with the way the kids have been putting on weight and growing.
Week after given the good news about the quads. Ed had to fly back to England since there was problems at two of work sites. Since he calls in once a week to check find out if every thing was ok. Mike and Kate under stand that he needed back but promise to visit again at Christmas which was three and half months away.
When the two weeks were up Mike and Kate said good bye to the staff just as they carry there kids who are in there car seats when carry handles out of the hospital for the first time in six weeks. When they arrived back and Paul and Alice place.
Mike and Kate carry their kids in side and up stairs and into the nursery. They carefully pick up each of there child and put him or her into her bassinet crib for the first time then they cover them with a sheet and light blanket. Mike and Kate watch them as they sleep
"Welcome home kids, welcome home" mike said.
Then he turn the baby monitor on then pick up the other one before he and Kate walking out the door closing it up partly then walking down stairs and into the kitchen where Kate got them both a cold drink.
When Alice and Paul arrived home that afternoon they notice how quiet is was down stairs till they heard voices up stairs so they walk up stairs then stop out side the nursery.
"Kate how are you feeling now"
"Better, than before, these two sure are hungry"
"Well they are growing so they would be drinking more"
"True, Care to burp Patrick, he had his fill"
"sure... come here son"
"How Mary doing"
"She still feeding soon she will be the same weight as her brothers and sisters"
"she a true Flynn"
"Hey she McGregor Flynn thank you very much"
"that so true... woo that some burp there son feeling better aye"
"of course he is... hey sweetie you had enough, come on let out a burp aye"
"You think her burp will be bigger that Patrick"
"May be... woo feeling better sweetie"
"mike Kate can we come in" Alice asked
"Hang on mum Kate topless at the moment"
"Mike did you have to say that"
"why, well your shirt is undone and so is your bra"
"Mike Flynn behave your self"
"Yes ma'am, here let me help you"
"thank you"
couple minutes later Mike open the door wider "come in"
He step back into the room letting Alice and Paul walk into the room. They smile when they saw Kate in the rocking chair with Mary against her shoulder.
"We heard you both talking" Alice said as she step ford
"We heard you come up the stairs, want to hold her" Kate asked
"love to"
Kate manage to stand up then she pass Mary to Alice then she quickly pick up the towel from her shoulder and place it onto Alice then she place Mary against it.
"Hello there Mary" Mike did the same when he pass Patrick to Paul.
"I'll be back" Kate walk into the bath room closing the door behind her.
"How kids settling in Mike" Paul asked
"good dad. Kate and I have been talk about scheduler cause of the two hourly feeds"
"and what happen when you return to Cairns" Alice asked
"Kate and I know you willing to help out"
"that what families do Mike"
"i know mum and I know that you and dad have been looking forward to this moment since Christmas when you find out about Kate being pregnant" Mike said grinning
"We love all our grand children Mike you know that"
"i know dad" Minute later Kate walk out of the bathroom smiling at the site before her.
They talk quietly till Mary and Patrick was a sleep just then connor and Grace woke up so mike and Kate pick them up since they started crying
"Feed one end and change the other" Mike said
"Same here " Kate said.
They put Connor and Grace on the changing tables and they started changing them. When they change Alice and Paul put Mary and Patrick back in there cribs then they walk out leaving Mike and Kate take care of the other two.
Hour later Mike and Kate walk into the kitchen with Kate carrying two empty baby bottles. She put them in the dish washer since there was a beer fridge and baby bottle warmer up in the nursery so it would be easier for Kate to warm up the bottle while in the nursery since she would have bottles already made up and in the fridge for when she or mike feed one of there kids.
Over the next week Mike and Kate took turns in feeding and changing there kids during the night. By morning they both were a bit tired but loving every minute of it.
Till one morning they were having breakfast with Paul and Alice when the phone rang. Paul answered it "Hello Paul Flynn speaking... Yes commander he here" then he pass the phone to mike
"Cairns NAVCOM" Paul said
"commander Jacobson, lieutenant commander Flynn speaking... I'm still on maturity leave for another week sir. Is there any one else sir... I under stand what the situation... yeah... what happen sir... how bad... ok what boat sir" mike smile
"yes sir... I know Kate will under stand... you already change my ticket... yes sir see you in the morning" then he hung up
"mike" He turn to Kate
"I got to fly back to Cairns this afternoon. One of the patrol boats is returning with out it captain. Commander Jacobson said that the captain of the patrol boat did a boarding since his XO sprain his ankle when he slip going down the stairs during a storm. The boat that the boarding team board they were carrying drugs. The men on board over power the boarding team the captain was shot before the boarding team manage to take the men down. The captain was medic vac back to Cairn yesterday. Commander Jacobson been trying to find a temporary captain there was no one else. He apologies to have me back sooner since there was no other choice. The XO of the patrol boat only been on board for two months. They returning back to Cairns and will be back by late this afternoon" Kate put her hand on top of mikes while looking at him
"I under stand Mike as you said there was no one else but couldn't the commander give the crew shore leave?"
"The crew already had two week shore leave and been out for three days when the captain was shot and one of the patrol boats is in dry dock for repairs"
"Mike I notice you were smiling when you ask about the patrol boat" Paul said
"It Hammersley dad"
"Hammersley the one where you did your midshipmen gap year?" Kate asked
"Yep and it for at least one or two patrols depends on how bad the captain is"
"i under stand Mike" Kate said.
Mike put his arm around Kate shoulder and pull her towards him "I know it going to be hard on us both Kate, we can do it"
"I know" Mike kiss Kate
"I'll send you weekly photos" Kate said
"i know you will" they kiss once more then return back to there breakfast.
That afternoon Kate took mike to the air port. While there they both hug and kiss "Kate what wrong" mike asked
"I had plans for us tonight"
"Plans what plans"
"Making passionate love to you" Mike smile
"Really"
"Yes but now..."
"I'll let you know how long the patrol is and how many days off the crew will have. Hopefully I can return and you can carry our your plan that you got in stalled for tonight so rain cheek"
"Rain cheek" they kiss once more just as they heard over the PA system about the boarding.
"that me" Mike said as they kiss once more.
"I'll call you tonight" Mike said
"I know you will, love you"
"love you to" they kiss once more before Mike turn and walk to the double doors. Kate watch him leave then she turn and return back the way she came.
That night Mike called Kate, they talk for a few minutes before hanging up. That night Kate got up every time one of the kids woke up for feed and diaper change. By morning she was tired, both Paul and Alice notice it when she showed up for breakfast.
"Kate" she turn to Alice
"Why don't you go back to bed and get some sleep. Paul and I can take care of kids for few hours, you look tired"
"I am... are you sure" Alice put her arms around Kate shoulder
"go on dear, we will be fine"
"ok, thanks" Kate stood up and walk back the way she came.
"I'll get the baby monitor" Alice said as she stood up
"Good idea" Paul said.
Alice walk out of the kitchen and up stairs. She knock on Kate door "come in"
Alice open the door and walk in to see Kate sitting on the bed. "I've come to get the baby monitor"
"Ok" Kate pick it up and pass it to Alice
"thanks, you get some rest"
"i will, there twelve bottles in the fridge. I've made them up this morning" Kate said
"thanks for telling me" Alice said before walking out the door closing it behind her.
Kate got change and pull the curtains close then she got into bed and fell into peaceful sleep. Four hours later Kate woke up. She got up and walk into the bathroom to use the loo. When finish in there she walk back into the bedroom and gotten dress then she made the bed before walking out of her room and down to the nursery.
When she stop at the door she saw a note on it. 'Kate Paul and I borrow your car cause we taken kids into town with us for the day so you can get some rest. See you at five, love mum' Kate smile as she remove the note from the door while smiling.
So she walk back into her room and got change into swim suite then she got her sun tan lotion then went and got a towel and walk down stairs where she got her self a drink then she walk out side. She did what she normal dose before going for a swim.
Kate please she almost loss her baby fat and almost got her figure back. Plus she increases her swimming lengths since she had the quads. After Kate finish her swim. She has her drink which was on the table then she dose her yoga exercises since she swims at least twice a day and yoga every day. When done Kate return back into the house and up stairs where she has a shower and gotten dress. Then she would go down stairs and take care of the washing and have a late lunch.
When Paul and Alice returns Kate walk out side to greet them "Hey how was your day out with the kids"
"It was great, kids love the sound of the sea, boats, every thing" Alice said smiling as she got out of the car
"that great" Kate help carry sleeping kids in side and up stairs.
Then she took care of the two large diaper and bottle bags. Once they were taken care of she return back down stairs to see Paul and Alice in the kitchen
"you got dinner on for us, thank you Kate" Alice said
"At the least I could do since you and Paul were looking after kids for me"
"Think nothing of it"
"Kate did you made these" Kate turn to see Paul holding a biscuit in his hand
"Yes I did I was getting board"
"they are great" Paul said as he bit into the biscuit.
"Kate you were board"
"Yes, I took care of the washing went for a swim, did yoga, did some house work and I was board after it was all done. Once the biscuits were done I got dinner on"
"thank you Kate" Alice said smiling.
When they were having dinner an hour later they talk about a schedule for when who attends to the babies. They all agree that they would do three hours shifts each during the night so they would each get some rest. When they did the three hour schedule during the night it work for a week then the babies started sleeping more during the night.
A week later Kate took the quads to the hospital for there normal check up. Doctor Davidson was happy to see how much they have grown and how much they weight.
