Chapter 41 – Mon Mothma Party
The moment Luke and Ines got out of the elevator, they saw Amidala and Ken waiting for them.
When Padmé saw Ines with the dress she bought for her, she couldn't help but gave a big smile.
"I knew you would look gorgeous in that dress," she said hugging her daughter in law and kissing her on the cheeks.
"I agree. I can't imagine this is my sweet Ines, the same girl that every time we had to put a dress in her, it was a nightmare," Ken Talia replied laughing at the same time he hug his daughter and kissed the top of her head.
"People change and you can thank that to your son in law," Ines smiled towards her father and glaring at her husband winking at him, who winked back.
"Indeed I need," Ken said also hugging Luke, after Padmé did the same and kissed her son's forehead.
"But you also look amazing, but you were always so classy since the times you were Queen of Naboo," Ines replied with a smile looking to her mother in law, who smiled at her too.
Since the moment they found out that Amidala was alive all this time, the two got closer. For Ines, her mother in law was like the mother she no longer had, and Amidala treated Ines like a daughter too. She was so happy that her son had found such a good woman, especially being the daughter of a great friend since the Clone Wars time.
"But what are we doing here? It is kind of cold," Luke said holding Ines closer to him, since he knew wearing that dress, she probably was feeling more cold then him and Ken.
"We are waiting for Mon Mothma driver. She was kind enough to send her private driver to pick us up and then take us back home." Amidala explained to them.
The moment she finished the phrase, a flying transport just had arrived.
When it landed, the drive came out and opening the door, he allowed them to entered, before he get back to his seat and fly back to Mon Mothma house.
"I believe we never being in Mon Mothma home before, right babe?" Ines asked looking at Luke, who nod.
"You are right sweetheart. We see her in the Senate, and in some events, but that's it. I don't even think we ever spoke to her husband. He was there with her but I don't think he actually was around."
"I don't know much about him either," Padmé spoke. "I mean I know Mon since the Clone Wars and even before, since we along side with Bail, were close and also being Senators and well before you father became Darth Vader, we alongside with other Senators were already planning against Palpatine."
"Actually he met one of those Senators. What was is name?" Ines said looking at Luke.
"Oh you mean when we were in the Great Western Sea after my clone situation. His name was Giddean Danu."
"Senator Danu. Yes, he was a Senator from Karu," Ken Talia said with a smile. "Glad he is still alive." Padmé nod.
"He was there with his granddaughter and he told some stories, especially about how you all started the Rebellion, so to speak."
"Yes. But I don't know what happened next, since I've being in Polis Massa for a long time."
"Well Bail and Mon Mothma were the head of the Rebellion, along side with many others, who risked their lives for it. That took a deep impact on Mon Mothma personal life, especially with her daughter Leida."
"I have to say when I returned I was surprise she had a daughter," Padmé said.
"Yes, she is one year younger than you two, but their relationship was not always good," Ken said.
"I remember godfather speaking during meal times, about how she was upset cause apparently her daughter was eager for an arrange marriage with a son of another man from their planet," Ines said making Ken nod.
"Good memory," he smiled at her daughter. "You are right, she was not happy cause she never agreed with that old Chandrilan custom."
"What do you mean?" Luke asked.
"Oh Mon Mothma is from Chandrila, and the old tradition was that when the girls reach a certain age, they started to get marriage proposals. That's how Mon married her husband Perrin Fertha. She married when she was 15 and moved to Coruscant after, since she was already a Senator at the age of 16," Padmé reveal. "That I know."
"15?!" Luke said with wide eyes. "That is too young."
"Agreed, that is why she was against when her daughter decided to do it with her actually husband now: Skedan Sculdun."
"How old were they?" Ines asked.
"I believe he was 14 and she was 13," Ken replied making Luke and Ines looked at each other.
"They were children," Ines said.
"True but it is their custom. They are still married and I believe that they have 2 kids. Two boys. Age 7 and 5, if I'm correct."
"Can't believe her daughter went through it," Padmé said.
"To be honest, Bail and I always thought she did to get her own revenge on her mother, knowing she was never a fan of it."
"I don't get it how she would do that. Every girl would love to have a brave mother like Mon Mothma," Ines said not understanding.
"Not her daughter. So I would not be surprise if she is not in the party," Ken said the right instant where the transport reached Mon Mothma home.
When they entered inside the house, Luke and Ines were amazed by the luxurious home of the Senator of the New Republic.
"Welcome my dear friends," they heard.
With a big smile on her face and with her arms wide opened, Mon Mothma approached them, and gave a hug to Padmé and to Ken first.
"Happy birthday," Padmé said handling the birthday present. "This is from me and Ken."
"I didn't know what to buy and well let's be honest, women are better in that subject than us. No offense," Ken replied.
"That is true," Mon Mothma said with a laugh. Then approaching Luke and Ines, she hugged them too. "And welcome to my house. I believe it is the first time you are here."
"Yes it is and I have to say it is beautiful," Luke said looking around.
"He is right. And here is our present, but we have to be honest, it was my mother in law who bought because we were not here at the moment."
"That's right, you were in Tatooine. I hope everything is fine there," she said with a smile.
"Actually it is. But we can tell you later how it was," Luke said making Mothma nod.
"I would love to," she said, and looking at one the employees, she gave the two birthday presents, when her husband just approached them. "Well I don't know if I ever introduce my husband to all of you, before."
"We already saw him in the events but we didn't actually talk, if I'm correct," Perrin Fertha said shaking their hands. "It is a pleasure to finally speak to you," he said looking at Luke.
"Thank you. It is also a pleasure to meet you in person," he said shaking his hand, while Perrin shook Ines's hand and then Padmé and Ken's too.
"My husband prefer to have fun in those parties that actually interact with my friends," Mon Mothma said.
"Well my dear you know that politics is a boring subject in my opinion," Perrin said which made Ines and Luke glare at their parents.
Even if they didn't like to judge a person at first sight, but they were starting to not enjoying his personally very much.
Seeing the tension between husband and wife, Padmé decided to talk.
"Leia said she is very sorry to not being here, but my grandson Anakin is still sick, with a fever."
"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that, but tell her that is fine and I understand. I've too remember when Leida was that age," Mon Mothma said, and looked at Ines and Luke. "How are your kids?"
"Those are fine. Ahsoka is babysitting them and I feel sorry for her," Ines laughed making Mon Mothma laugh too.
"I bet the twins are giving her fun time."
"I don't know if would call fun, knowing my daughters," Luke replied.
"How old are they?" Perrin asked, making Mon Mothma glare at him.
"They are both 4," Luke replied.
"Interesting," he replied.
Scared that a husband may saying something that she wouldn't like, she looked at them.
"How about we enjoy the party?"
"Agreed," Ken said.
"Please, be my guest," she said and they all walked towards the party. After all the party was just starting.
Finally Luke and Ines met Mon Mothma husband in person. What do you guys think Perrin is up too?
