Chapter 48 – Unexpected Visit
Everyone looked at Ahsoka when she shared that information.
"You mean Rex? Did you talk to Rex?" Amidala asked right away. She knew Rex and the other clones very well, and she only wondered if they were still out there.
"Well not exactly, but I've being sending a message, and don't worry, it is a code one so nobody can understand what it is. So what lets hope the message got received."
"Do you think they will come and help?" Leia asked her.
"Trust me, Rex was closer commander to your father Anakin, so if he knows that his grandchildren needs protection, he will come with his friends. That I can guarantee you."
"Hope so," Luke replied.
Looking at the time, Ines looked at her husband.
"Babe, I think it is time to get home, cause we need to give them bath," she said looking especially at the girls, who pouted right away.
"But it is cold!" Padmé said right away.
"The water is not, young lady," Ines laughed, "I bet your baby brother will be happy, want to see?" and looking at her baby son who was sitting on his grandmother's lap, Ines started to talk. "Hey baby boy, how about we get home and have a nice bath where you can splash water all over your father?" she asked and started laughing when the baby smiled and raised his little arms right away, making Ines pick him up and kissed his sweet chubby cheeks.
"I think we also need to give bath to these two, right boys?" Leia asked looking at Bail and Anakin.
"NO," they said at the same time and started run inside the apartment, making everyone laugh.
"I will do it. They respect me more than you guys," Iris said and head inside.
"We better go too." Luke replied and standing up, they all say goodbye and head upstairs to their apartment.
Around 6pm:
It was almost 7pm and in the Skywalker's apartment, Ines was preparing dinner. She and Luke decided to make homemade pizza, which the kids loved. While she was in the kitchen, the kids were in the living room, already in their pajamas and robes, since it was another cold night in Coruscant.
Ben was on the couch, covered by a warm blanket, while he was looking at screen watching a program about droids, which he loved, while his baby brother was on his walker, drooling all over his bib, but was having fun pressing the many buttons the walker had, hearing the different sounds of the galaxy, making laugh and babble. Meanwhile the girls decided to play catch inside the living room with R2, who kept beeping every time one of the girls tap him and told it was time for him to catch them.
Luke shook his head at them while he sat next to his son, and looked at his baby one.
"Are you having fun pressing your walker buttons?" he asked, laughing when the baby babble towards his father and continue to press the buttons. Looking at his older son, Luke glare at the screen. "What about you buddy? What are you watching?"
"Some program about droids. Did you know the R-series was a line of astromech droids manufactured by Industrial Automaton, that includes the popular R2 series droids, which is the series R2-D2 is and R-series models continued to see use during the days of the Clone Wars even though some of its models had been operating for almost a century at that point?" the boy asked his father, which made R2 beeped when he heard that.
"Oh really? I didn't know that."
"I mean our dear R2 is very old, since the time grandmother was the Queen of Naboo."
"And we are happy that he is still around and with us, aren't we?"
"I like R2 a lot. He will always be with me no matter what," Ben smiled at the droid.
"I understand buddy, him and I went through a lot back in the day, right R2?" Luke asked him, which the sweet family droid that was R2 beeped, which made baby Luke laughed every time it happened.
All of the sudden, the girls approached Luke and tapped him.
"Your turn," Alli said, which made Luke frown.
"My turn for what?"
"To come and try to catch us, silly Papa," Padmé replied after.
"Papa don't want to play catch."
"Why?" Padmé pouted.
"I think papa is afraid cause he knows we win against him, Padmé," Alli said looking at her twin sister.
"Excuse me, young lady? You know I'm older and I can catch you in seconds."
"Prove it," Alli said.
Ben looked at their father and giggled.
"Dad I think you need to teach them a lesson," he laughed.
"You think so? You think that I need to show them that I can catch them like this…" and standing up he went after them, which made the girls scream and ran away around the couch, with Luke going after them. Of course if he wanted he would have stop them with the force, but he loves these moments with his kids. The only one who was not happy with the screams was Ben, who rolled his eyes and laying on the couch he covered himself.
"Girls," he said to himself.
Ines was hearing the screams of the girls and Luke tell he would catch them and she couldn't help to shake her head smiling. Then the door bell buzz, and since she couldn't be there, she asked:
"Can someone answer the door please?"
"I'll go mom," Ben answered her back when he saw that his father was too busy play.
Sighing and getting up from the couch, he went towards the door, and opening, revealing a woman in front of him.
"Ben, sweetie, who is it?" she asked him.
"It is a pretty lady!" he replied, which made Ines frown, and grabbing a kitchen cloth, she went towards the entrance, shaking her head when she saw Luke running after the girls, and when she reach the front door, she stopped, surprised to see the person in front of her.
"Mon Mothma! I was not expecting you here!"
"I'm sorry, I see I came not in a good time," she said glaring inside since she was hearing the girls laughs.
"Not at all. Please come in," Ines said stepping aside, while Mon Mothma entered inside the apartment. It was the first time she was in their home. She was in Leia's and Han's home many times, but not in Ines and Luke.
"I was never here since you two moved in. I was here when your mother in law lived in the apartment."
"As you can see it is a little different, which new furniture and you know, this times a lot kids are around," Ines laughed, which Mon smiled and looked at Ben.
"You are so big."
"Hard to believe that he will be 6 in a week now."
"Times flies," Mon Mothma said as they walked inside and she saw the baby who looked at the new lady in front of him and gave him one of his drooling smiles. "And I see someone is teething," she said crouching in front of the baby, who smiled at her.
"Yes he is," Ines said, "But please sit down."
Sitting on the blue sofa, Mon couldn't help but chuckle when Luke appeared with the two girls on each of his shoulders.
"I told you I would catch you," he said, stopping when he saw Mon sitting there. "Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't notice you were here." he said putting the girls on the floor, who immediately approach her.
Mon smiled at the girls, and then to Luke. She had saw Luke in many occasions, but never as the funny and good father he was and it was good to see that one, if not, the most powerful Jedi in the galaxy at the moment, was also a normal man, playing with his kids.
"You're pretty," Padmé said right away, making Mon laughed.
"Well thank you. You are pretty too. Both of you."
"We twins," Alli said. "I'm Alli and that is Padmé."
"Nice to meet you, I'm Mon Mothma," she smiled at the little girls.
"We were not expecting you here at this time. Is everything okay?" Luke asked right away.
"Oh yes. I was in the Senate doing some minor work, and before I head home, I decided to visit Leia and see how little Ani is, and then I decided to come here, because I wanted to talk to you about what happened yesterday at my party with my husband."
Luke and Ines glare at each other.
"Look, you don't need to explain anything, we are all good," Ines said to her.
"But I wouldn't feel okay if at least I came here and apologize for everything. To be honest I was shocked that Perrin ever thought of asking something like that to you, especially knowing that when that happened to out daughter he, like me, was not happy at all. But she was the one who wanted to do, and we respect that. But you two are right with your answer. I totally support you on that."
"We know. And there is not need to apologize, in fact we feel honor that he thought of our girls when there are so many, even if deep inside, and I'm sorry to say this, Ines and I know the main reason why he thought of the girls," Luke replied making Mon nod.
"Of course you knew. I know that you are not stupid. And your girls are such beautiful little girls," she said making the girls giggled at that. "And who doesn't want them to be in their family right? But if that happens someday, it will be their own choice, and you did the right thing and I just hope nothing changed between us because of that."
"Of course not. You don't need to worried about that." Ines smiled.
"Yes, my wife is right. Nothing changed. Our respect for you continues to be the same." Luke nod with a smile.
"Thank you," she said standing up. "I feel more relax now. I will leave you now, I'm sure you were getting ready for dinner and I have to go too. I need to get home and get a nice warm bath before eat. With this cold, sometimes a being inside the warm water feels so good."
"It does, the problem is to get out of it," Ines said making the two woman laugh.
"Bye. Bye, it was nice to see you all," she said to kids before head to the door with Luke and Ines. "Goodnight."
"Goodnight, travel safe," Ines said before closing the door and locked it.
Looking back at Luke, she said:
"That was a shocking visit, but deep inside I liked it. It shows how amazing this woman is and fair too."
"I agree," Luke said, "But I'm starting to get hungry to be honest."
"How about you help with the pizza, then." she smiled when he leaned forwards and kissed her.
"My pleasure," and they went inside the kitchen.
